I'm posting this review 1 month after construction completed on my bathroom remodel. This review…read moreis a little longer than a typical restaurant review since it is a more serious decision. It is also the first review for this business on Yelp so spending a little extra time on it. Engagement & Scheduling - 3/5: During the initial meeting pricing was discussed. There was no formal sheet of the materials I needed. It was just written on a blank piece of paper. It would have been better if there was a form. It was a little hard to read while picking out the required pieces - especially considering I was not that familiar with all the aspects of the tiling requirements. There was a delay in scheduling 1 time. I was not given a warranty in writing. Suggestion: It would be good to just offer painting and sub it out, instead of saying the company doesn't paint. It would be just like any other sub. (The spackling was subbed out, so I had the subcontractor paint for me too for an extra cost.) Demolition - 5/5: Drop cloths were used well. The entire bathroom was gutted down to the studs in about 4 hours. All of it was brought out to their truck and taken away by lunch time. During demo, a PVC pipe broke. They quickly repaired the issue and cleaned it up. Rough-In 4/5 * Framing - 5/5: A window was removed and patched. Rotted studs were completely replaced. Fresh installation was applied. This was done very well. * Plumbing - 3/5: The shower PEX lines were installed in the reverse direction. This had to be corrected. * Electrical - 5/5: No issues. They followed the provided electrical CAD. * Sheetrock - 4/5: Sheet rock went up quickly. There were some large gaps around a couple of the electrical boxes that needed to be patched at the end. This took time. Cement board was used. Finish 4/5 * Tiling (5/5): This is where they really shined. Giuseppe did an amazing job of planning out the best way to lay the tile. He took his time and did it right. No complaints at all! In fact - just praise. Cuts and Miters were super tight. Giuseppe recommended I get a better shower saddle. I'm glad I did - it looks great. He took time to explain to me the best way to care for the tile going forward. * Fixture Installation (4/5): Slight issue with the shower door. It really was just coping with complex instructions. The main top bar had to be flipped, but it was done in about 30 minutes. * Spackling (4/5): The first coat of spackle was put on in a semi-finished space sloppily and with no drop cloths. It was very hard to clean afterwards and could have been avoided. The other two coats of spackle were put on superbly by the sub-contractor. Work Ethic: * Timeliness (5/5): The crew arrived every day right on time. * Testing (2/5): The plumbing PEX lines were reversed. The testing before the finish-work started was not adequate. There was a leak; there was no pressure, and it was not caught that the lines were switched. Because of this, a finished wall in another room had to be opened. This could have been avoided with more careful testing. I had to request the final test which caught the problems. After the wall was closed and painted, leaks persisted, and the wall had to be reopened a second time and then repainted. It turned out to be improper troubleshooting of the first original leak. * Cleanliness (3/5): Most days cleanup was great and drop cloths were used. There was a couple of situations where debris was left around. Most notably on the last day there wasn't a full cleanup of all the areas that were touched. * Professionalism (5/5): The crew was hard working and hit the ground running. They were always respectful towards me, and they were a pleasure to talk with. I felt comfortable having them in the house and even went out a couple of times leaving them alone. Overall: 5/5 - You may ask with a less than 5/5 rating on some items above how can I rate a 5 overall? It's because I'm thrilled with the end product. It really came out great. I've given a full accounting of my experience here but considering the quality of the tile work and the complexity of any construction job, I would say Definitive did a fantastic job. Frank was Engaged with his crew and personally attended to important things from his perspective like the shower pan. I will be using Definitive again on my next project.
