The guys who work in this place are heartless! I've been a loyal costumer of this place for the last year. today I had to bring my sweet service dog with me because I didn't have a walker. They refused to let him in initially (knowingly they are violating the law) , and then finally when he got in I bagged for water - the babrbers response was "we are not a f** Deli! I got so offended and I left the place immediately. If you are an animal lover please please don't go to this place. They don't deserve our money ! They are rude and not humane! Jack is such a kind and sweet person, you feel super welcome the minute you walk in. They don't appointments, only walk in clients As such, your wait could be 30 - 40 minutes, and it's totally worth the wait. Beau has followed him from Queens, to Williamsburg, Brooklyn - and travels here all the way from Kensington. He's a loyal customer because it's about relationship and quality. After my longtime barber Gaspar, who was a fixture in this neighborhood for decades, retired a couple of years I've been looking for a barber where I live now in Middle Village. The results & vibe were disappointing so I went back to Williamsburg and to Model Barbers, where I got haircuts decades ago before Gaspar. I met Jack, who took care of me, and was greeted like a longtime customer. Good price, nice haircut, treated great and had that old neighborhood vibe of years ago. That's my new barber shop! Absolutely fantastic barber shop. They do great, consistent work and it's only $25 for a scissor cut, which is about half of what other places in NYC/Brooklyn charge. Great prices, convenient location, fast and friendly service, and quality cuts. I was new to the area and needed a new barber. After doing some Yelp research, I found this place. As most of the time, Yelp knows what's up. I've been coming here since to have Jack or Roman hook me up. The haircut is $14 and is the lowest price in the area (at least from what I saw). Having them work on your beard is extra and since I have been getting better and better with my own lineup, I just get the haircut. I always get "a half on the side, low fade, not too high" and I mix it up with "3 on top" if I go do my weekend warrior gig or "leave it be" if I am loving my civilian life. that said I don't get any other style haircut but I've tried all 3 barbers. so here's my review. Jack is classic Williamsburg. I've tried a few other affordable barbers recommended by friends, but I always come back to Jack. The man knows his shit. He always makes me look great and he takes care of his customers. He'll finish the cut with a nice neck shave and the ever-present "Brand new man!" I'm vain enough to love when he refers to me as "My number one customer!" Hank Hill is right: good business is all about customer service. That's why I love Jack. There isn't anything better. Roman and Jack are fine, but Oksana gave me one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. I went there today and showed her a picture, telling her I wanted to grow my hair out, and she seemed to completely ignore my request-- She gave me the same cut I always see people walking out with. Not only that, but the length in the front was comically uneven. You really have to jump in a lot and be very specific if you want a non-traditional haircut. If not, she'll let you out looking like a fourth grader. The price can't be beat, but I ended up wishing I paid double for a more attentive barber. read more

Cheap haircuts make make me feel cheap in so many other ways--I leave $14 lighter, with bits of hair in my mouth and the realization the I could have done the same at home with a little imagination. This place gets stars for being cheap and being the only barbershop (out of four) that I found open today after trekking all over Williamsburg. Neither of the 3 people working here have any concept of what "just a little trim" means. I wear my hair messy - a little long. I've come 3 times asking for 1/4 to 1/2 inch off and I've ended up with a short haircut that takes at least a month to undo. I just don't understand it. I've tried showing them photos. I asked specifically "please make sure you don't cut too much." Hell, I've even tried talking in centimeters to make it more clear. I used to pay the same price for a much better haircut in Queens. I guess i Just need to stop going here. If you want a short haircut this is a fine place to go to. Otherwise, it's probably not for you. read more

I'm not surprised this place gets so many 5-star reviews. I've been to nearly a dozen barbershops in the city and this is by FAR the best, not to mention the best deal ($12 for adults, $10 for kids). While you're getting trimmed, tune into Jack and Oksana's hilarious Honeymooners banter, or tune out and watch Casino or whatever gangster flick Jack feels appropriate for a Saturday morning. I love this barber shop and it has three very capable barbers. Jack's the best. Roman's a close second and I'm sorry, but Ms. Oksana is the third best. She is pretty funny though, so it's worth it. In any case, I have three stories about why I love this place. They all have to do with Jack. Story 1... This is a story that I didn't didn't actually witness. It was told to me. Apparently a man, whose appearance I can only describe as being from an orthodox religion, was in the shop. His phone rang and when he answered it, a parade of f-bombs emerged from his mouth. This type of language didn't please Jack and he politely told the man not to swear. The orthodox man responded with indignance, telling Jack not to interrupt his private phone conversations. Then, Jack told him that he was in his shop and he wasn't going to tolerate that kind of language. So, he kicked him out. Story 2... One time I was there, getting my hair cut by Jack, when a guy walks in with his girlfriend. He's about 3rd in line to get his cut. He tells her he'll wait. She tells him she's headed to the grocery store, next door. Not even a second passes, after she leaves, before Jack looks at the guy and loudly says, "FREEDOM!" Story 3... On one visit, I noticed the newly minted sign that read: "Brand New Man," which is what we all know as the motto of the shop. Naturally, I got out my phone to take a picture of it. Once the picture was taken, Jack stops cutting his customer's hair, looks at me and says, "Twenty Five Dollars." Then, he let out a thunder of laughter. read more

As far as atmosphere goes this is generally what I like in a barbershop. A place to get your hair cut. Nothing fancy you get in you get out. I think they did a good job on my haircut and the barber was nice. My only gripe is that I generally get my beard trimmed and I don't think I would recommend this place for that. I asked him to shape my beard and he just took clippers and trimmed it the same length all around. Unfortunately if thats what I wanted I could of just done that myself. Also at most places I get my beard done they shave my neck with a straight razor for the same price. I think the moral of the story is if I need a mans haircut I would gladly go here but if you have facial hair to I would opt for someplace else. read more

Came in for a tidy-up today and couldn't really tell what Roman had done until my hair dried, but I'm super happy with it now that I'm home. It's a little Hitler-youth/Williamsburg-y for my tastes (way buzzed around the neck and ears and no feathering into the longer part on top) but I think that's all on me--it's a really good haircut and he did exactly what I asked, and I'm generally cynical about that look, but it IS what you go to a barber shop for. I've been coming here for a few years and I think they do a really good job. Roman is stellar and Oksana has given me some of the better haircuts I've ever gotten, and I've tried other barbershops and salons and let stylist friends hack away at me. Haven't had the new guy...I feel like an asshole taking a pass on him when it's busy, but it's only because the other two have always done such a good job. He had a good rapport going with a kid he was cutting, teaching him Russian words and engaging the other barbers to get their input on his definitions. Always a good vibe and I've never regretted going there or worn a hat for a week because of what they did. read more

I don't need a free coffee, beer, etc, while i get my beard trimmed, i would just prefer to have it done quickly, well, and cheaply with a very small amount of chat. These guys nail it! I've been looking for a good standard barber in the Greenpoint area since I moved here three months ago. I tried the popular places but after mixed results at $20-$25 a pop I was on the search for something better. I went here on the recommendation of a friend and I wasn't disappointed. I got my hair cut by Jack, a nice guy who grew up in the Soviet Union. I asked him how long he had been a barber, "I was born with scissors in my hand" he responded. If you want an ok haircut at a cheap price done by people who will disrespect you and talk about you behind your back in Russian (while you are still inside their establishment), this is the place to go. I was a consistent customer for over a year because it's convenient and cheap. However, the owner's son (Roman) apparently lets his 2nd in command role get to his head. He can be moody and disrespectful (more so when his father is not there) and while I had let it go on previous occasions today cannot be overlooked. When I arrived he told me that besides the customer in his chair, there is one more person ahead of me who was currently out getting coffee. I found this strange as I had on previous occasions asked if I can "step out just for a minute" but was told in no uncertain terms (and in a strict and condescending tone) that if I am not inside the shop and another customer walks in I would loose my turn regardless of how many people were waiting. I expressed my dissatisfaction at this unequal treatment which apparently angered Roman and he attempted to debate with me about this topic in front of other customers. I proceeded to not waste time and got into his father's chair fully expecting an apology from his Dad after I explained that it's not right to treat one customer differently from another. Instead, this man told me that I should not tell him how to run his business and he should not be as nice to me as he is and I should be glad that he didn't let his son tell me off ..and.. if I don't like how they do things I should not come back. Probably he wouldn't have acted so rudely had he understood that I have friends in the area who go there, and that he is loosing more than just one customer. I have friends who are Russian that go there and they have always found it somewhat unsettling to hear the barbers make fun of clients amongst themselves in their native tongue. Needless to say, I am taking Jack's advice and never coming back. I would not recommend this place to anyone and will share my experience with others. There are other well reviewed areasonably priced alternatives in the area. I would like to add that I have never found a need to post a negative review about an establishment I frequented until now. read more

My yelp profile pic is about 11 years old. I am a bald guy with a very fixed income. I could go to a drugstore, buy some clippers, and they'd pay for themselves within one or two uses at home. Yet, I'd rather shell out the dough and keep coming here. The staff are super friendly, the cost is unbeatable, and the wait is usually short.
