This place offers gluten free options such as califlower crust. Was with a date, and she has the same issue with gluten as me. The first employee when she asked for gluten free crust asked her if it was an allergy or not.. Now when I was up to order it was a different employee, and I told him the califlower crust, and he never prompted or asked me if this was an allergy or not. I told him it was an allergy regardless, and he just kind of just said ok. So I look at the pans they use for the pizzas I saw lots of flour on the clean empty pizza pans, I asked him is he going to use that? He said yes. I said that has wheat flour on it. He was kind enough to clean it. it's clean cauliflower crust is on I'm like good I can get the toppings and then get this amazing pizza. After I get the toppings he puts it on the rack and then another employee puts it in the oven. So normally at places like this when you inform employees that this is an allergy. They have a mat for that specific gluten free crust pie that they put the pie on top of whilst in the oven. That crust should never touch the oven surface as it's being shared with regular wheat dough right? Well Mod Pizza of Columbia, Maryland decides nope, f dat. Puts my cauliflower crust pizza directly on the oven surface. I informed the employees right away I can't eat that now. One guy argued with me saying it is a 700 degree oven. And I have no idea what that has to do with gluten and preventing cross-contaimination. This place isn't celiac friendly and I cannot recommend people come here to eat. Now I wouldn't be writing this review normally. I am writing because I called ahead of time and asked them if this place is celiac friendly and what do they do to try I mean try to prevent cross contaimination. They told me they make sure they use a clean pan, they use a separate cutter that is clean and only for the gluten free crust, and that they make sure the pizza isn't directly on the surface of the oven. The employee that serviced me, didn't asked me if this was for an allergy. Was very dismissive and didn't even attempt to prevent cross-contamination without my prompting him and instructing him. 5 stars, yes, 5 stars. Their thin crust pizza is is second to none. Similar to &Pizza but I think I give this one dibs just cuz they offer more meat toppings. Try the 'tyler' or the 'mad dog', off the chain! The place is nice, clean, and they have home made lemonade. The price is just right, plenty of seating and the service is good too. Parking on the other hand is a pain cuz you have to park across the street in the mall parking and walk across to it with no crosswalk. If you're bringing kids, hold their hands across the street. Strolled into Mod, the Sunday of Vans Warped Tour yearning for a pizza, and a little more. Waiting in line for a pizza, made ready to be mine. After picking my toppings of sausage and such--yes, I'm one who puts pineapples on his pizza, don't respond with "yuck". I arrive at the counter, which to my dismay, it's under $10 for that behemoth of a personal pizza tray. I opt for the milkshake of blackberry, aptly named Marion Barry. Almost as soon as I get to my seat, my name is called, bon appetite. One bite, everybody knows the rules. It's a savory one, the toppings collide crazy to think, the cooks barely even tried. I get to the end of the first slice, starting to think Mod pizza might be my new vice. The crust is crisp and cooked to perfection. Makes me want a brick oven, might have to get rid of my convention. They were all smiling and seemed happy to be there. Great first impression. I ordered a cheese pizza with basil and a pesto sauce on top. The pizza was good but felt like it needed another minute or so in the oven. Ordered the chocolate cake thing which was not good. At all. Well, good if you like those horrid zebra snack cake things then you'd like this one. It had a marshmallow fluff -like filing. I took a bite and put it in the trash. Sorry for not including pictures. I felt like I was being rushed by the first guy in the prep line and that through me off. Example, he asked if I wanted red sauce I said yes but before I can say I wanted spicy he was slapping the regular stuff on there so he had to give me a new one and from then on it was kind of a bad vibe. First time visiting Mod Pizza, last time at the Columbia location. Walked in and it was pretty empty. Being my first time, As I was about to ask about the sizing, the young lady (dreads and piercings) just jumped in (no greeting) and says "name for the order?". Then I get to ask my question... she looked bothered but she showed me the dough and sizes. So I proceed to look at the menu, my wife attempts to order and was getting the nastiest looks from the young lady. Wife asked for margherita pizza, and she just jumped out and said " we don't have basil". The attitude behind her was horrible! We're not easily offended but her looks and attitude just sucked! Maybe she was having a bad day... sucks for this location. She should not have been the first person anyone interacts with at this franchise location. We left... the attitude and the looks and vibes she was giving was that bad. I've never been here so I had questions. The young man behind the counter was excellent at explaining the process. I got the 11" with garlic rub, light on the red sauce, fresh basil, roasted garlic corn broccoli and grape tomatoes, mozzarella parmesan and asiago cheese. Drizzled with garlic butter. It only takes 5 minutes to bake because they put just the right amount of each topping. After it came out of the brick oven I had them to top it with a little pesto sauce. OMG I literally ate half the pizza before I realized it. It's that good. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Oh did I mention I'm not a big fan of pizza. So I think that says a lot about this place. I'm hoping they have more around town. I'll be buying pizza for lunch again if I see one. read more

We are long-time supporters of this chain. On Friday night our meal was pretty good, but there were some indications that this location cannot handle busy times as well as the location we usually go to. First, as we stood being next in line, we had to wait for them to make called-in orders on the main food preparation line. I felt a bit ignored and wondered if I would get quicker service by calling the order in. When we finally placed our order and started moving down the line, they bumped a called-in order in between our two pizzas. This resulted in our two pizzas coming out of the oven at different times. Not a deal breaker. Second, I had requested the "Modness" special deal. After the cashier gave me the total and it sounded high, I asked the cashier, "Are you sure you gave us the special?" and she said yes. As you may guess, when I sat down and looked at the receipt, I was in fact charged full price for both pizzas and both drinks and had to go back to get it corrected. Not a deal breaker. Third, the drink area was out of plastic-ware. Even after I got some at the counter and notified them, I noticed when we left 30 minutes later that there still wasn't any plastic-ware. Two of the three napkin containers were empty, and the third had the napkins jammed up inside. One nearby trashcan was filled up but another one in the store had recently been emptied. There was no one wiping tables the entire time we were there. So much for enhanced cleaning during COVID. We wiped our table ourselves. Not a deal breaker. Fourth, all of the signs declaring "blazing fast" didn't apply that night. There is certainly a limit to how many orders this place can process before it is not "blazing fast" anymore. Not a deal breaker. Importantly, though, the pizzas tasted great. While the individual problems were not deal breakers, the cumulative effects would make me hesitant to go on a Friday night again. read more

It's even weirder having to hustle as a customer to get staff to notice in a near empty restaurant that the two gals standing at the cashier actually care to pay for their food. Make-your-own pizza in the assembly-line style of fast-casual pioneered by Chipotle. There are other chains that do the same (such as Blaze Pizza and Pie Five), but Mod Pizza has a unique offering -- add as many toppings as you want for the same price, possibly heaped so high you have to eat your pizza with a knife and fork. And the toppings are good quality too, with a good variety in each category. Mod shows they understand proper pizza assembly as well, allowing toppings under the cheese (such as pesto, greens, olive oil) and light toppings at the very end (after baking). There's multiple kinds of seasoning, a good dozen kinds of meat, multiple sources of spicy heat if you're inclined, a good variety of vegetables... it's delicious. Once you've figured out your pizza (and there's multiple pre-determined varieties if you're the indecisive sort), it takes 5-10 minutes to bake. Yum. The crust is light and crisp, a bit like a pita-style (but heavier). It holds up well to the toppings-- or would have, if I hadn't picked so many. There is bar-style seating, high-tops, and regular tables, as well as a good sized patio. Also, try their "No name cake". It's a fresh little cream-filled chocolate pastry that tastes like an adult's dream of childhood little debbie cakes. For $2, you should get one. (I think fresh anyway, not sealed, just wrapped in foil) This location is in one of the new buildings that have sprung along the western flank of the Mall in Columbia. There's curbside parking immediately adjacent (just a few spots), and then plenty of spaces across the small road in the mall parking lot. I'll definitely be back. read more

For those who haven't been, the toppings are set up Chipotle style and you can pick from a handful of pre-selected combinations of cheeses and toppings or you can create your own. The pizzas are priced by size, not by toppings so you can mix, match, and get whatever you want. You can see your pizza being built and then going into the oven. It only needs to bake for about 5 minutes. My friend's and I ended up getting three mini pizzas between the two of us and we liked all of them. I think the crust could be a little better and think they can be slightly more generous with the amount of each topping that goes on the pizza. Other than that, no complaints! The service was great and there was plenty of space to sit. They also have a great variety of beverages to purchase (not just a fountain soda machine). Not sure what happened over the past six months, but getting an order right seems to be rather difficult for the staff lately. The last 3 times we have ordered from here the line couldn't read the ticket and put dairy cheese on our pizza instead of vegan cheese. Being plant based, this rendered our meals entirely useless, and because we used postmates, getting a refund was more trouble than it was worth. We have opted to just stop ordering from here and invest our money in places where literacy is high and cow's cheese doesn't come on our vegan pizza. Amazing experience here at mods. I came with my husband on a Tuesday night at 7pm. The line was not long at all. The front crew who built our pizza were so patient and super helpful. We got two Mod pizzas and the garlic bread with 3 drinks. The pizzas tasted amazing and hands down will be the biggest reason to come back. we were not a fan of the garlic bread and let the staff know who were super understanding and didn't even charge us for it. This could have easily been a four or a five star review. The pizza is really good and my wife has tons of food allergies that they accommodate which is awesome. But the service is lacking. I showed up for an Internet order and was told it was in the oven. I waited for 10 minutes and then realized they had just started making it. I eventually flags down the manager and explained it to him and he said to me "it's hard to work these Internet orders in." He must have seen my face because he did immediately apologize and say that's not really an excuse. I did eventually get my pizzas although I saw people walk in, go through the line, and get their pizzas before me even though I showed up after the time the site said my order would be ready. The manager again apologized and said the next one was on him. I asked if we could just make this one on the house. Since it was an online order he said sure I will re-run your credit card this evening. He never did. Wish I could give a better review. Update: Continue to give unbelievably bad service. Messed up wife's pizza and made her get in back of the line to order the replacement. They also just walk away in the middle of ringing you up. My throat was doing cartwheels. Interesting loft style open seating. Great place for large groups to eat and the price is affordable. Those chairs are not made for luscious thick hips. Good fast-casual pizza across from Columbia Town Center. Tasty, quick, reasonably priced, and a fun atmosphere. They have preset pizzas you can order or modify, or you can build your own. All for the same price. We had garlic strips with pesto, a mini (side) Caesar, the 'mad dog', and the 'dominic'. The salad and pizzas were fresh and filling without being greasy or putting you in a food coma. The garlic strips were fine, but forgettable. My only real complaint, and it's a minor one, is that most of the staff seemed like they were still figuring things out. The brunette woman was on top of things, but everyone else seemed to be milling about and trying to remember how things worked. Great place to add to the fast-casual repertoire. Sunday June 5th 2022 at 12PM me my brother and uncle came here for lunch. Lights were completely off (it kept it cooler?) First time coming here.. ordered a pizza.. realized they had different crust options. So I switched mine before even creating the pizza. The girl (no hair net with her hair hanging everywhere) got pissed that I switched my crust. Then I asked if they could take some sauce off. The man was going to scrape some off (which was fine) the girl got pissed again and just threw the entire crust away. (Great way to waste food!) I asked for a pepperoni pizza and she started to add sausage I said no no no I just want pepperoni.. she got pissed again and started to pick it off throwing the sausage all over the preparation area and on the floor. I came here for the first time after my boyfriend raved about how amazing the pizza is. Upon entering Mod's at 9:00pm (they close at 10:00pm) we noticed several employees looked very displeased. As we walked up to the counter we heard one employee loudly say to another "omg really. Don't you get off at 9?!" Someone began creating our pizzas but I guess we weren't moving fast enough because a second person rudely came to move things along. Toppings were thrown haphazardly on our pizzas and we sat down to wait for them to cook. The team member operating the oven appeared the most displeased with customers coming in. But we also shared the same disgust as we watched her scratch her nose, repeatedly adjust her hat, flip her hair, and use her cellphone all while cooking our food. We watched as she threw another customer's pizza into a box and slid it to her. The customer shook her head and quickly left, clearly offended by their interaction. Between the employees dressed like they were ready for bed, the extremely sour attitudes, and apparent health/hygiene practices in question, we finally got up and left without our pizzas.
