I had mod once before and I wasn't impressed but I got it again because I'm tired of paying $2 per topping at other pizza places especially since I just get veggies. I love that you can add as many toppings as you want for the same price so figured it would be worth it. I will say they did leave half my toppings off which was disappointing but as far as the taste itself, it was great! I would just double check your pick up orders to make sure they get it right. My pizza was fully vegan (I think daiya cheese changed their recipe because it was really good and melted well unlike before) and it was really filling and delicious. I got the thicker crust which I would definitely recommend especially if you are getting a lot of toppings. The sauce was very skim so if you want a normal amount I would ask for extra. I want to start out with the food was amazing. But that isn't uncommon in a lot of restaurants. The service, however, is beyond amazing. That paired with the food is what is deserving of a great review. It started with myself fumbling into the restaurant out of desperation due to rain and hunger. I blankly stared at the menu until Emmie started calling me by my name (had a badge and wanted to make me feel safe) and was willing to answer all questions. I had never been to MOD Pizza even though I go to Torchy's and Xian next door all the time, because I'm not a huge fan of pizza - but I was pleasantly surprised at their style and price! It's basically a Chipotle for pizza - you pick all the toppings (including the sauce) and they put it in the oven for a fresh pizza made exactly the way you want! And the toppings are unlimited - you can put as many things on it without any extra cost. Not the best pizza I've ever had but definitely on the better end because we could add so many toppings! I had no idea I would like this place so much. Every time I walked or biked by, I had to admit, it smelled great. But someone described it as "Like Subway, but it's pizza." Since Subway gives me the willies, I avoided it. Then I heard, "The crust is... really thin." I was still skeptical - was it some kind of gimmick? Nope! What a fool I was to have not taken advantage of this place for so long! Yes, the crust is thin, but it's still good, it makes the pizza relatively low-calorie, and you can get ALL OF THE TOPPINGS for the same price. I had an 11" with pesto, spinach, sausage, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, mushroom, onion, mozzarella, asiago... what really won me over was the olives! I've been going to Mods in Kyle and South Austin for about 5 yrs and today the manager said I couldn't get more than 1.5scoops of cheese on my pizza. So we ordered 3 pizzas online. Walked into the restaurant on East 51st in Austin. Sign pointing to 3 pizzas on a counter says "online pickup here". Nobody from the place was at that part of the counter. When I inspect the boxes for a name I hear a woman yell "could you not" as if she was reprimanding a child. Then a another gentlemen points to a metal rack next to the door with our pizzas on it because it was so obvious that the sign meant something else (sarcasm). For being a $9 chipotle-style build your own fast food franchise, I will say this is - surprisingly - still one of the better pizzas I've had in Austin. It's no Via 313 but I'll say I enjoy this place more than most of the other pizza joints that have been popping up over the past couple years around Austin that are 3x the price. First time trying MOD pizza and it was amazing!!! Soon as we walked in we were welcomed and asked if we had been there before. Luckily if it wasn't for Andrea (?? I think that was her name lol) we wouldn't have had such a great experience. She explained everything to us step by step and let us know our options. She answered all of our annoying and obvious questions! Lol. She let us know about the rewards program and even gave us a bowl of water for our dog. Tried it for the first time yesterday. The pizza was delicious, but cold. We ordered then sat outside waiting. Maybe it was our mistake, but we thought they would bring it to us or let us know somehow that it was ready. It just sat on the counter getting cold. I was delightfully surprised by MOD. I'm not usually a fan of big chains--Chipotle and In-N-Out are the only others--so I didn't have high expectations, but they helped me set that bar at a more appropriate height. Crucially, the pizza is delicious. It's not going to win any awards with the culinary crowd, but it doesn't need to. Fresh ingredients, plenty of sauce, and cooked right. It's a steal for about $10, especially with as many toppings as you like! I go for the Mega MOD. It's two layers of their super thin crust with a bit of sauce gluing the two together. It comes out like a pizza with a more substantial crust, like what you'd expect from an average pizza. Extra sauce helps balance the additional crust, and results in a ~12" pizza that's plenty filling for two people. read more

Just as nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, I was not prepared for their euphoria-inducing pizza! The ingredients are top quality, significantly better than other similar places. I went with pesto sauce and then lots of chicken, garlic, pineapple, asparagus, artichoke hearts and Gorgonzola cheese. I could only get through 1/2 of their standard size but it was tasty later. The kids enjoyed their personal pizzas and my wife had a nice salad. They also have a couple of Texas beers on tap which were quite nice. They made a small mistake on my bill that I didn't notice until I got home, but they were super responsive when I contacted them and resolved it right away. It's definitely much healthier than the typical pizza chains! - You run into people you know like in a small town. Cons: - Chilly inside - It's a little slow for fast food standards if there are customers ahead of you but ... - The sheer number of choices and combinations of base sauces, cheeses, meats, vegetables, dollops, etc... can be paralyzing so having a long line of customers ahead of you might be a good thing. I didn't have high expectations, everyone loves pizza, but really good pizza is harder to find, an almost impossible feat in East Austin. These days I'm looking for something light, well seasoned, with fresh, housemade ingredients. I'm a Texan, born and raised, and was instilled with so much state pride (thanks public education) that I have a slight bias against out of state (in this case, Seattle) chains. Plus, the Austinus in me has left me feeling weird about chains, then you think about all the chains you enjoy and love, if someone is doing it right, please take business away from those that aren't. MOD Pizza as an entity is doing it right. MOD Pizza is located in the side lot of the HEB megacenter, between Xian and next door to Torchy's, which is a crazy lot during lunch, the least used parking spots are the ones heading West out of the lot and along Berkman Dr. I cannot express how exceedingly nice and engaging the employees were, so much that my friend gave the manager a hug on the way out :) The concept alone was worth a shot- unlimited toppings for a thin crust 11" pizza for $7.47. Also available unlimited toppings salads, a mini pizza, a family size, and a salad served on an asiago pizza crust. The pizza crust is super thin, between a cracker style pizza and New York style, with a dash of Italian; pizza crusts are like bbq, or ramen, everyone has their own way, as long as it's good is what counts. Whatever else MOD may be, it is foremost really, really tasty. The crust is flavorful, slightly crispy, sturdy, extra thin, and foldable. I think there is par baking because they are sturdier during the build process and cook in less than 2 minutes! The ingredients are fresh and tasty and the rest is up to you, no worries if you don't enjoy you can have a free do-over. The drink options were bountiful- shakes, floats, lemonades with refills, wine and local beers, and a caramelized pear black tea I fell in love with. I thought this would be a great place to take a kid and let them go crazy on ideas and toppings on their own personal pizzas, but then I realized I felt like that kid and I was super excited at all the pizzabilities. I want an extreme meats, an all cheeses, a veggie extravaganza, then I want to cross those types with all the different base sauces, maybe with different finishing sauces, I may need to make a chart to ensure efficiency. Looking at it for what it is, it is amazing, it's not the best pizza I've ever had... you just can't beat hand pulled mozzarella, but concept, service, and value will make this a multiple offender on my list. read more

That said, I got some beef with a few things and I want to warn others before their trip: - Light sauce doesn't mean no sauce - The "roasted" brussels sprouts are just this side of raw - The salami tastes metallic - They accidentally threw my friend's pizza away and didn't even comp her for the extra 20 minutes of waiting for her replacement pizza. They gave her someone else's abandoned pizza, though, which is a really weird apology. The balsamic glaze and the crust are what will bring me back, though. I love how salty that bread is, especially against the sweetness of the balsamic. I'll just skip the sprouts and the salami next time. read more

Been on the radar for a bit, and since I do work so close...The wife and I decided to give it a try. If you browse my reviews, Pizza is usually not a choice we make, due the fact I make a killer homemade pie on the grill. But it is time consuming and tedious, cutting up all the veggies, homemade crust and sauce. The place is cool looking inside and fits perfect with the local Austin vibe. Service good and friendly. I went with the Mega Mod Cooper and the wife when with a custom Mod with Pepperoni, Bacon and cheese. The pizza was good, sauce lacked a bit on the flavor side, or just need more. The cruse was crispy and thin which we like. I was a bit lost on the veggies on mine. Im sure they are fresh, not sure if prepped daily or come from a pre-processed bag. But they seam to lack the pop of freshness that I experience at home when I make my own pie. The prices are fantastic for what you get, and the Blackberry Lemonade was mind blowing good. Great pizza! I stopped by MOD during a visit to Austin and was very pleased with my experience. It is a fast casual type place where you can design your own individual thin crust pizzas with a variety of toppings (unlimited)! The pizza is totally delicious. I ordered one with peppers, olives and spicy serrano peppers and it really hit the spot. Even better, the pizzas are relatively low calorie which they conveniently list on the menu. My whole pizza was less than 700 calories so I didn't feel bad polishing the whole thing off in one sitting. Service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. This is a pretty good pizza place. I went here because I didn't feel like waiting in line at Torchy's next door. The line moves fast here and you get your pizza pretty soon after they put it in the oven too. My only complaint is that thin crust pizza isn't my favorite type of crust but the toppings and sauce are all good. You can either create your own or they have the classics you can choose from. I've been here a few times. The one time I came they kind of burnt my friend's pizza. Hopefully they don't make a habit of that. read more

When I heard people calling this place the "Subway" or "Chipotle" of pizza, I was SUPER-skeptical - in part because I'm not a fan of either establishment, but in part because fast-food pizza somehow seems a lot more *wrong* than fast-food sandwiches. But since it's so close to my house and I love pizza, I tried it anyway and was glad I did. Thin crust isn't my jam, but I have to say I was actually pleased with the sturdiness of this crust. It held up nicely under the approximately 10 lb of veggies I piled on top (asparagus and artichoke hearts, what!). They didn't skimp on the cheese or the sauce, and they got it out to me in less than 10 minutes. Fresh toppings, piping hot, tasty crust and sauce, easy on your wallet, what more could you ask for? Well, actually, I was checking out their website later on and realized that you can order online - how great is that? By the time I put on my shoes and drive a couple blocks, my pizza will be ready. The pizza crust is great - crisp and thin with a generous chew. There are enough toppings to choose from for even the pickiest of eaters - all for no extra charge. The mod pizza size is perfect for a single pizza per person (or two kiddos to share) so there's no more needing to compromise on toppings with your significant other or friends to split the cost. I asked them to combine the white sauce and pesto and it turned out really nice with chicken, bacon, and olives! We'll be back soon to try more. The turn around time has been pretty good both times I've been here; only 5 minutes at 2pm on a Saturday, and 15 minutes at 7pm on a Friday when it was packed. I highly recommend the flavored lemonade and the salads as well! Oh - the parking situation is awful - like most of Meuller. Carpool if you can or expect a walk.
