They actually didn't respond until over a week later, and I realized it was because they were out of the country! So they let me know when they would be returning and so I contacted them again then. By some insane twist of fate, the day they said to contact them also happened to be National Donut Day -- obviously a sign. It turns out they don't have delivery right now (probably because they just returned?) so I had to arrange a pickup. They're $4 a pop, so I decided to just get half a dozen: Cinnamon Sugar Chocolate Oreo Mango Pistachio Rose Raspberry Pina Colada I arrived at the house, waited a few minutes, and the man came to the door with the donut box in hand. The donuts looked awesome too! Then I went to my sister's and surprised them with vegan donuts for the special day -- great feedback all around. I didn't get to taste every single one, but the chocolate oreo, rose, mango pistachio and pina colada were delicious!! The flavors popped, the texture of the donut was light and had me not feeling too guilty, and they looked nice! It was totally unexpected to find a vegan donut spot so close to my sister, and to be family-run is lovely! They have an interesting history on their website, you should give it a read!

We even switched one out because it tasted like a wet rag. We ordered our dinners and were surprised at how good it was. I got the "Spaghetti and Meatballs" which is shrimp and lump crab meat made into small balls over linguini with a garlic Alfredo sauce, served with garlic toast. My boyfriend got the Lump Crab Cake sandwich and fries. We agreed that the food was good and came out hot and well seasoned. There were only two other people in the whole restaurant besides us and when they left, it was as if we didn't really exist. Lights were being turned off, dishes and bar was being cleaned, they closed the entrance doors and I had to use my flashlight on my phone to get to the bathroom. The whole time, the owner was sitting at the end of the bar having loud private conversations with her staff who were ordering food from the kitchen at the same time as us. All very strange and not inviting. Probably not going back, and maybe this was a weird one off, but it was so off putting for us. Maybe they are more professional at a peak time of service but I was shocked they were treating it like they were closed at an hour and a half before closing.

This…read moreblack owned dessert shop opened up and literally brings a breath of sunshine to the neighborhood. As the name suggests, they are best known for popcorn, ice cream, and donuts. The original company is Capital Kettle Co., which you have probably seen at local farmers markets. They now have the shop, and those big fancy shapes and decor were made by the owners family! That's dedication and love right there. The ice cream is what I have explored the least, but they have a nice variety of flavors. Their donuts are mini and you can either go with their menu suggestions or add your own toppings! My favorite popcorn by far is the Ethiopian. Make sure you try it, and they will let you sample all of the flavors if you ask before committing. More recently, they have added croffles (YUM), matcha, and really expanded their drink menu. I'm delighted to see how far they have come, and I hope this is just the beginning. When you are in a dessert mood, support this spot. It's in a shopping center where everything but the Moms Organic can be overlooked... But it's absolutely worth the treat!

It's decorated nicely, and is really adorable. On a hot summer's night, I stopped by for ice cream. The place was empty, except for one young woman behind the counter, on her phone. She barely looked up, with a "let me know if I can help you." I ordered my scoops and started waiting while my partner ordered a soft serve. This is apparently a production. I seriously almost finished my ice cream waiting.... But, in the meantime, about ten people in different groups came in. Several wound up just leaving. The one woman who was there started shouting into the back for someone to come help her. After 4-5 attempts, a second woman came out. She had been way too busy chatting with someone on her phone about her car to offer any help -- which she continued to do while she rang me up. I've been to places where I felt like the staff didn't care one way or the other, this one made me feel like I was really interrupting these two ladies' evening of texting and chatting, and they would have preferred nobody came in. That's fine, I don't think I'll make the mistake again.
