I've been going to Moby Dick for years and years, I'm a DC native. Earlier tonight, I bought a combo #3 which is the ground beef and lamb. I came home and it was some sort of sandwich. It was supposed to be a kabab with rice. I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. The guy told me that the manager was not there and just handed the phone to a young lady. I explained the situation and told her I would return the sandwich so I could get what I PAID for. She was rude and told me "so what", "no". I was blown away. Worse customer service , I was there today at 9:30 pm , I checked their sign on the door and it says the open till 10:00 pm so I entered and order a kabob plate ,set and waited my order to be ready , the lady start to flipping the chairs over the tables and making a hell of noise while still there was customers at the floor ,I checked the time and it was 9:45pm , come on guys really are you kicking customers out even before your time to close ,I felt really offended by this behavior . for the food the kabob wasn't even cooked well . so sad for a food chain that trying to be at a decent level ,they need to focus more on the customer service. read more

This branch of Moby Dick just opened within the last year. It's pretty consistent with the other Moby Dicks I've been to in the DC area. The meat is tender and flavorful. The bread is delicious. The hummus appetizer is fantastic (best hummus I've tasted). However, the rice is pretty bland. If you're looking for great tasting foods, you'll be better off going to Kabob Palace where they give you delicious chickpeas (or other veggies) on top of your rice. Also, the prices are a little higher here than they are elsewhere. It's still a good meal for cheap, but at Moby Dick, you choose between rice OR bread OR salad. (At kabob palace you get all of them.) The rice costs more than the other two, and there are no veggies to go on top of the rice. If you're looking for tasty kabobs in the Kingstowne area, though, this is a great place to go. I come here frequently when I don't feel up to driving all the way to Arlington for kabobs. The staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. Also, I've never had to wait for a table. One thing Moby Dick has that I haven't seen elsewhere: the swordfish kabob. Slow, but very good. You don't really expect fast food to be slow - you expect a sit-down restaurant to be slow. Well this is somewhere in between a fast-food establishment and a sit-down-to-have-a-nice-meal type place. You order at the front, but it takes fo-eva to get your food (like 15 minutes or so, and it wasn't busy). BUT it was worth the wait. I love this place !!!! I originally first tasted this a few years back in Silver Spring, MD... but when I found one here in VA I was super excited! I usually park on the side in front of the garage parking as it is less crowded there. I also call in my order so I can just go in and pick-up. I order the Kubideh platter and I will always! I love the cucumber sauce with the naan. The portion is definitely worth $10. I always have left overs unless I'm feeling super greedy! I've been here numerous times but it was my parents' first time here. Every time I come here, I've enjoyed the food. Prices are higher than neighboring Noodles & Co. and Panera, but it makes sense with the large portion they give you (at least the combos). My dad order Moby's Combo 3 (ground beef and lamb) and my mom and I shared Moby's Combo 2 (ground beef and chicken). I didn't really like the ground beef (didn't really have much taste except the "beefiness"), but the chicken and lamb were good. Our combos included rice and side salad, which I've always enjoyed. The salad comes with a side of their dressing (not sure what's in it, but it's good). Doesn't come with a pita bread, however, which was a bummer; but to be honest, we were very full at the end of our meals. Overall, our meals were good. Service was good, too. Since my parents didn't know how to order, the lady at the register pointed out a picture menu for my very fobby Asian parents to understand what's in a meal. We had to wait for about 5 minutes before calling our number to pick up our order. The restaurant itself is spacious and clean. There weren't a lot of people here on a weekday afternoon (not sure about weekends). But since this place has been here for as long as I can remember, I'm sure other people enjoy coming here too. read more

If you are Kingstowne area resident, I think Baytnas over in Landsdowne shopping center is better for Middle Eastern and the Flame Kabob place over by the Springfield Plaza (where Hard Times is) is better for kabobs - I'm told Afghan Kabob and Food Corner Kabob, both in Springfield are better than Flame - but i haven't tried them yet. I've given this place a couple of tries and while I see why people might like it (the menu seems promising; a chain that is offering something besides burgers is nice) - I have not had good luck with food consistency; wait time;etc. If you are looking for something a cut above generic chains or fast food at Kingstowne Shopping Center- Aditi and Pasara (the Indian and Thai places respectively) located just across the street are better. Aditi's has a lunch buffet we have pretty regularly and it's good. Only had Pasara's for dinner and takeout - but it's good also read more

Very happy with our visit here. We ordered the lamb and beef combo and the chicken combo. The food was all fresh and delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The lamb was my favorite and the chicken was my wife's favorite. Service was friendly and helpful. This was our first time and the employee helped guide our decision. Bit of a wait for our food but the complimentary warm pita bread with cucumber sauce they give you right when you place your order is delicious and helps pass the time while your food is prepared. I poured my extra cucumber sauce on my rice and it was incredible. Went with a group of four and two young children. Everyone was quite happy with their order. Kid friendly and accessible w/high chairs. I ate my entire meal and left feeling full and not overly-stuffed. read more

This is our favorite carry-out restaurant in the Kingstowne area. We usually buy dinner for our whole family (6 people) and bring it home. Their lamb, beef and chicken kabobs are our favorites. The meat is good quality, well seasoned and tender. We also like the ability to order their fragrant rice and salads by themselves (all rice, all salad) or half-and-half. Their naan bread is made right there and is warm and wonderful, particularly teamed with their excellent humus. I would highly recommend Moby Dick to anyone. im such a fan of kabobs and falafel and all that jazz and i really gotta give it to moby dick for being one of the best fast-food styled kabob places ive yet been to. everytime i go my family orders the family styled kabob order which is pretty good price for a meal for 4 people! the chicken/beef is so full of flavor and the hummus is made to perfection. i love the sauces too. i go pretty frequent and am never disappointed. make sure to put taini and yogurt sauces on the meat and add the chutney to the rice and hummus for extra spicy flavors! read more

I'm from Iran and have known about Moby Dick's before it was a chain. No doubt, their food used to be better, but their food is still very good. It's been a bit "Americanized" (which is to be expected once a restaurant goes mainstream/chain); but again, it's still quite good. All of the entrees are pretty yum. Make sure to try some of the appetizers and sides though. They'll provide you with a lil' more adventure than just rice and meat. read more

Pretty mediocre. I would give it 3.5 stars but I can't do half stars. Service is not particularly fast. I usually get the chicken kebab. The chicken is usually not dry, and it's seasoned ok. I've also had the lamb kebab and I wasn't that impressed with that either, it wasn't particularly tender or flavored that great. The rice is ok but not great. But hey, the yogurt is good...just drown stuff in the yogurt and your meal will be better. I'm sure I'll go here again just because of the convenience, but there are better kebab places. I think the kebab place in the Springfield Mall might even be better than this. I can't say it was bad, but it wasn't exactly good either. I had the chicken kebab wrap, but for how long I waited I expected something better. The chicken itself seemed overcooked and dry, the seasoning wasn't anything to write home about either. The cucumber-yogurt sauce was surprisingly good compared to the rest of the meal, which is probably why I ended up drowning my sandwich in it. I can in here recently for lunch. I had barreh kabob (lamb), falafel, and doogh. The lamb was quite good and was served with white rice which had a sauce made of egg yolk. The falafel was similar to hush puppies, except on the inside it tasted like Indian samosas. The doogh is a drink made with yogurt, water, and salt. The meal was served with flatbread accompanied by yogurt cucumber sauce. The service was friendly. The place appears to be popular with the local Iranian community, which is a good sign. The place wasn't even busy but the staff were - busy talking and looking at their phones to notice the clean-up needed, from what I could tell. It's not that hard, folks, especially when there were about 6 people in the whole place. Low standards and unprofessional. Moby Dick can cook Kabobs?? Well sort of. I stopped in Kingstowne center and walked around hungrily trying to decide where to eat. I chose this house of Kabob and stopped in to see if the elusive white whale actually existed. What I got was a long wait for a mediocre meal. This place had much more of a restaurant chain feel to it. I ordered the Combo III w/ salad, pickled vegetables and drink. I liked the sauce, it wasn't too sour and had onions in it. The bread was just ok. The best part was the salad, it was better than any other Kabob place I've been to. Usually you get some lettuce a tomato, maybe a sliver of onion and some oil. Here you got a very large portion (which you pay $1 for) of lettuce, tomato, red onions, feta cheese, olives, cucumber and an oil dressing. not bad The pickled vegetables were almost inedible, very very bitter and salty. As for the kabos they were just average, the Kabulieh was just ok, tasted like plain hamburger. The lamb was a little better, nicely seasoned but a little dry. Overall not a terrible place, but I probably won't be back until I try other restaurants in the area. Doesn't come close to Kabob Palace. read more

I usually get the kubideh platter or the combo but this time I wanted something different. I checked out the menu and saw the gyro. So we ordered a gyro and I specifically ordered it because I liked that it came with feta cheese in the wrap. When our food arrived and I bit into the gyro there was 0 feta cheese and it tasted bland and simple w/o. So I asked my husband to go and ask in the front and the cook straight up lied and said the gyro doesn't come with feta cheese. Now I understand that it is a pain in the butt to have to re make something but seeing that it was he who messed up and not us he should have remade it without any questions instead he lied about it like we can't see it on the menu.
