An Iranian friend took me to the Crystal City location years ago. I asked, "How do you get all this into the pita? He briefly looked at me like I was an idiot, then he said, "You eat it with a knife and fork." Okay, lesson learned. I've dropped into this location for lunch a couple of times recently. I've only had the mixed kabob pictured in yelp. It's delicious, and nothing has yet looked more appealing. It is plenty of food, and would accommodate two people who aren't starving, esp. with an extra piece of pita. While it doesn't feel heavy, it can provoke a nap attack a couple of hours later. The girl that took our order was very rude and inconsiderate I was not done placing my order and she was rushing us and hurrying us up when there was nobody there behind us. The food here is good, but ordering is a bit difficult because you have to know what to order before you step up to the register, the light blue poster menu is vary hard to read even up close and at the same time you don't want to hold up the line while making a decision. Moby Dick's prices are also higher in comparison to other similar Persian restaurants who offer more in a full service formal setting and are not a self-service. On the plus side, they are more convenient since there are now many branches in the area. read more

If you haven't been to an authentic kabob place, then you MIGHT like their food. If you have, it is disappointing. For what you get, the food is pretty pricey. I was expecting chickpeas, I've never been to an Afghan restaurant that didn't offer chickpeas before this visit. The rice was very bland, no flavor or spice to it compared to authentic kabob places. As far as service goes, it took an unusually long time considering no one was in there for my order and they didn't provide a fork for my to-go order. I won't go back, if I'm in the mood for Afghan, I'll head over to Van Dorn Street a few miles up the road, at least I'll get chickpeas. read more

A good go-to lunch place in Kingstowne with a quick turn around time. The food is okay though at times needs a bit of salt. Be sure to ask for a freshly baked bread if there is someone tending to the tandoor. The bread tends to get a bit chewy as it cools. Most items are pretty okay here - the chicken joohjeh and lamb kubideh are some of my favorites. Ask for the free sumac/ spicy sauce to add extra layers of flavor! read more

I have been here many times and the food is really good, the problem is that for two times that I was there around 9:15 pm (they close at 10 on Saturday) the cleaning lady had already started to put the chairs on the table and cleaning the floor, the sound is terrible, makes you lose your appetite. Although a fast food chain, this was my favorite Persian kabob place, but no longer. This place offers excellent meat options -- all moist and seasoned well. The saffron rice is great and so is the bread. Unfortunately, food offerings have been inconsistent depending on who is at the register. We usually order two of the joojeh (chicken) and kubideh (beef) combination meals. Two visits prior, we were given saffron rice, bread, house salad, and yogurt sauce (two of everything). During the most recent visit, we were forced to pick between a feta/watercress/parsley/radish salad and yogurt sauce and there was also only one piece of bread. How do you pick between vegetables to balance out the meat and a yogurt sauce to balance out the dryness of meat and rice? We picked the salad, but it was very odd. I have never had to forego yogurt sauce at a kabob establishment. Omitting yogurt sauce is like telling a pho-eater to not touch the Sriracha and Hoisin bottles. Seriously? I've been here a few times. The food is okay, but pricey. Today when I came in I waited at the cash register for close to ten minutes as the owner checked his phone, rolled his eyes, and then attended to the customer standing behind me. It's usually very difficult for me to write a 1-star review, because I rarely ever have experiences that warrant such a rating. What really soured the experience(s) I've had at this location is management, management, management! The food isn't awesome. Kabobs usually have a suspiciously high water content (as if the meat has been frozen). Kabobs are served with tomatoes, rice, or salad if you choose that. The rice is just that, rice. No flavoring, nothing, but, persian rice is sometimes served like that so, okay. The tomatoes are fine, nice grilled tomatoes. Pita comes with it as well. First thing I hated: I asked for some onion to help my rice a bit, and was given a scowl and then handed a literal head of onion in clear film. What?! Way to go for customer service. I tried the location again a few weeks later. I hadn't written a review the first time, because, well if I don't have something awfully nice to say, I'm not going to try to. BUT, after the second time, I was kind of fed up. I got take-out and the service was awful. An older man, who I assume is the owner, so disdainfully took my order and gave me my food. However, he was overly gregarious with another party. It was just an awful experience and went a long ways in making me feel unwanted. The fact that I paid this man for what I ultimately deemed subpar food made me even angrier over the situation. Don't go here, there are plenty of awesome places in the Kingstowne Center worth going to. read more

I've been here at least a dozen times. Really no complaints and the kabob "sanwiches" are great. They are relatively cheap and portions are huge. Quick service also. One thing though is that I don't think I've ever been greeted with a smile. Not that I really care but a hi and thank you every now and then would be nice. read more

You can get a basic Persian kabab platter for about $10-$12, which includes meat, saffron rice with butter, grilled tomatoes, pita bread, and yogurt sauce. It's nothing fancy, but the food is authentic, consistently good and reasonably priced. This location has some outdoor seating as well. read more

The food was ok, nothing special, the service is horrible a girl at the register did not say a word when I entered ordered food and got my food. I love this place i been ordering from moby dick for years . Only reason im giving 3 star is because of the assistant manager . I just called in to check on my order status and the assistant manager start arguing with me on the phone that they did not receive any orders . He is trying to convince me that they don't work with GrubHub. I've been trying to tell him that I've been ordering through GrubHub for years and now he's telling me they don't work with grubhub and while I'm on the phone with him my order just got here.. how funny is that. Please as a good restaurant like this choose your employees wisely , they shouldn't be arguing with a customer! Even if you're not working with GrubHub or any other delivery companies you don't have to argue with your customer this way just say nicely and apologize that's the best way to solve the problem. I have been there a couple of times. The food is very good. Ive tried the chicken, lamb, steak combos and they've all satisfied. Takes about 10-15 mins which I would say is a little slow but thats really my only complaint. Oh the prices could be cheaper. Ive had the same amount if not more at other kabob places for less. $15 here compared to $11 for two meats, rice plate, bread, and drink. read more

The food here is really bad. I have been to several Moby locations and they are all somewhat inconsistent, but this location is the definitely the worst. I have ordered several times because I love Persian food, but every time I was disappointed. Bread is often underbaked and the chicken is either undercooked ( Pink inside) or burnt and dry. The rice is also inconsistent. Last time I ordered the rice was mushy and overcooked. Overall the food is not good here. read more

NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD! Placed my order over the phone at 6pm on Friday night. Woman took my name and said it would be 15-20min. Got there around 6:45ish, was told they couldn't find my order and kept questioning whether or not I actually called said order in. I'm the customer, correct? Showed manager or whoever he was my phone and the number, all while the lady that took my order over the phone says "oh that's the order we just gave away". Are you kidding me?!? Although I prefer Kabob Palace this place is good. The food is consistant as well as the service. I like that this location is always clean. I usually get the boneless chicken with rice and naan and recently got a combo platter for my dad who hates to try anything new and differenct but he actually liked it.
