Please be aware that there's no guarantee that the mobility vehicle that you thought you were renting will actually be available when you arrive for your pick up. I purchased my mobility van from the Villa Park store. However, I live far north Chicagoland and can't get service at Villa Park. They have a facility formerly in Morton Grove; now in Niles. My impression is that they really don't want to repair the mobility vans; rather, they want to sell you a new van and make profit on both the old trade-in and the new van. read more

My poor experiences with Mobility Works has gotten progressively worse over the last few months. Before it was the motorized door or ramp acting up not long after maintenance but now it has reached complete incompetence. Toward the end of the summer my air conditioning went out and the local Toyotas dealer said I had to go to the place that services the modifications. After Mobility Works had my van for a few days replacing corroded heat/AC pipes my mom came to pick me up from where I volunteer and my ramp wouldn't deploy. She had to go home to get my folding ramps to get me in and later when my dad was inspecting the van to solve the problem he punctured his knee due to a screw coming up through the floor. It seems they put screws up into the floor blocking the ramp. Really? My dad was bleeding pretty bad but thankfully didn't need stitches. The next day we called Mobility Works to come out and pick up the van to fix it. We live in Arlington Heights so every time my van needs work my parents have to drive 40 minutes to the Skokie location and then 40 minutes back, repeating the back-and-forth when work is completed. The current debacle began when on November 6th I stopped in to get a quote for the plastic runner boards on both sides of the van and schedule for the install as well as work on the ramp again and grease the pneumatic kneel that has been making an excruciating sound when raised or lowered. They said they would need it a couple days and since we are short a vehicle we scheduled the work for 11/30 and 12/1, my parents each taking a day off of work due to no ride. I called at 1pm on 12/1 for an update but got their voicemail. I called again at 4:15pm and was told they ran into some problems and didn't get to proceed. The kicker was when they told me the technician who was working on my van went home early for some reason. Wow, 2 days with my van and nothing done while we are rearranging our responsibilities. I had a talk with Tim, who had become the new service manager a month ago, and the manager over speaker phone expressing my obvious frustrations. Tim agreed to let us borrow a rental free of charge while they worked on my van, again. They came by to swap vans at 11am on Monday 12/14 and after calling that Thursday for an update, Tim left me a message saying everything was finished. The next day they dropped off the van at 11:30am and the ramp was fixed but the kneel still squealed loudly and nothing was done to the runner boards!!! I immediately called Tim and when he returned my voicemail he said nothing on file mentioned the runner boards and he couldn't explain how anyone could miss the squealing kneel. At this point I'm extremely upset, this place is a joke. He said he had been finding parts around the garage and would see if the runner boards were ordered and laying somewhere and call me back. He didn't. I called Monday and got his voicemail, same story the next day. He blames this location going months without a service manager, needing technicians, and training customer service regarding the lack of returned calls. What is the excuse for not hearing back from Tim? I left a voicemail for the manager this afternoon but heard nothing by close. I told Tim I have zero confidence in Skokie's technicians and will probably go to the Villa Park location, to which he said he would help get that worked out if I so choose. The disabled don't have the luxury of choosing from any of the countless auto repair shops in the Chicago area to service their accessible vehicles. My 2008 Toyota Sienna has about 60,000 miles and doesn't have any engine or other issues but I'll probably buy a new vehicle come summer to AVOID Mobility Works. They've made thousands of dollars off me and can't be bothered to return my calls on top of everything else? Unless you don't mind not knowing if repairs will be completed, missed deadlines, and unreturned calls, then this is the place for you. If you believe the disabled should be treated as everyone else and your money is going to competent technicians you might want to look elsewhere. read more

I recommend you be careful when you rent from here. They didn't give us reliable equipment. I got stuck far away in another state with a van that had a bad strip and door / ramp that wouldn't work. Caused me to be a day delay from getting home. I'm pissed !! Then the battery had to be jumped when we got gas in Indiana. It was a nightmare. However, they did feel bad when I returned the van and compensated me tremendously; that made a big difference. Shows you they did care and were sorry for the convenience. . read more

I want to acknowledge Tyler (one of the service technicians) for really helping me out in a pinch. My ramp was not deploying and I showed up at 4:30 PM on a Friday to see if there was anything they could do. Even though I showed up last minute and I'm sure he was looking forward to going home, Tyler was very friendly and popped open my ramp motor to take a look. He let me know there was a leak and I needed to replace the motor, and he switched the manual deployment buttons so it would be easier for me to press in case I got stuck. He also made some adjustments to keep the ramp working temporarily. Tyler didn't try to rush me out - he took the time to answer all my questions, and I really appreciate that. Merrillville, IN.-- Renters beware. I thought I finally found the solution to my transport issue but as time would tell, it turned into a stressful situation trying to work with the staff at this site. I live in Cedar Lake and my sister who is now wheelchair bound lives in Portage,IN. My first experience renting, they didn't have the vehicle ready even though I set up the appointment 2 weeks ahead of time. I let that go. The second time, they just hired someone for the position to oversee rentals. Again, I had to wait for them to figure out the process when I've been calling to schedule a week ahead of time. The third time, I called to schedule and spoke with the manager who promised everything would be set up right when I arrive. Nope-- they had no record of me in their system. Tammy, has been helpful in scrambling to rectify the mistake but each time it takes over a half hour.I don't have that time to wait because each time I needed to get my sister to a doctor appointment. It's stressful enough getting to her home, dressed, lifted into her chair, then loaded into the van. I barely get her there on time. I thought this would be the answer to my transportation issue since Medicaid's Southeastrans is not reliable. Sadly, I need to use them one more time to get my sister to her appointment. I'm not hopeful they will be ready even when I call to confirm the date. After this, I guess I just won't be able to continue to get my sister to her appointments when she needs to. read more

I requested a Left pedal accelerator to be installed in my new SUV at MobilityWorks in Niles, Illinois. The equipment they installed failed the same day they installed it.. I narrowly avoided an accident and had to have the car towed back to MobilityWorks... They tried a second time and sent me on my way. Again, the equipment failed and I narrowly avoided an accident. Again, I had the car towed back to MobilityWorks .... At this point, I had them remove their equipment, and I took my car to another facility that successfully installed a Left pedal accelerator that worked beautifully. MobilityWorks promised me I would be reimbursed for towing and rental car expenses I incurred. Nine months later, I still have not received a penny. If I could rate this place a ZERO, I would!!! They clearly did not know what they were doing with my car, and they have been lying for 9 months about reimbursing me for my costs. read more

The people who work there are incredibly knowledgeable and kind and take as much time as is needed to determine your requirements and to figure out how to deliver solutions. They are interested in long-term relationships with customers. I was thrilled that they not only could do a van for me but also had an electric wheelchair for me as well. It was one stop shopping for me. And they work around your disabilities so it should never be difficult for you to get to them.
