Midwest Mobility - Our new service van!

I was driving down Dempster on Friday night, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a sign that said…read more"Wheelchair Servicing." I told my partner we were going to see what that was, and I turned the car around, pulled into the small retail mall, and at the end of the mall was a business called, "Mobility City." We went in, and I was greeted by Geoff, the owner, and his service man who works on the wheelchairs. We talked a bit on what needed to be done on my wheelchair. The service man took it to the back of the store, steam cleaned it, tightened up the "wiggle," and replaced the two arm rests. A really great improvement for a tune up! Feels light new!! I was really impressed by his customer skills, and the eagerness he had for getting me back my wheelchair in tiptop shape! Quite by accident I found this place, and I'm very glad I did, because I did not think that there were any mobility Wheelchair stores in the area. The store is a modest size, and deals with a few different types of mobility services, including mobile wheelchairs WHICH ONE CAN RENT if need be! I am so glad I found this shop. The repair prices were decent, the replacement parts were affordable, and he was able to look at his inventory to see if other parts on my wheelchair could be replaced. I heartily recommend anyone who has mobility assisted devices to seriously check him out. I was very pleased with his service, and I now know if I need any parts for my wheelchair, he's right there to help.

I purchased a Pride Jazzy 27X powered wheelchair in February, 2026 from Geoff at Midwest for $3100…read morecash including tax. The sales receipt notes a $100 discount "for nondelivery" (we took it with us) and a $567 "cash discount." It was a demo but essentially like new due to its being a recently released model from the Pride Corp. Also included in the selling price was a removable cupholder and "complimentary in-store labor" for one year. Several strong positives were experienced while shopping. Geoff has a very nicely configured and stocked store. There is plenty of room for customers to test-drive the various powered chairs. Geoff did not at any point pressure us to buy a chair. He knew his merchandise extremely well and pointed out pros and cons of each of the various chairs we considered. Several helpful suggestions were given regarding the chair we purchased. Finally, Geoff is quite likeable and has excellent people and selling skills. My only issue with Midwest Mobility was pricing. The chair's tagged price was $3699, a full $600 above what the same chair is selling for on Amazon, at other local dealers, and at many on-line dealers. I compared Geoff's price on another chair with those of a couple of other dealers and again found Midwest to be the highest price. I was able to buy for below Geoff's asking price partly because I paid cash but mostly because I knew in advance what the chair was selling for elsewhere. My advice to potential customers is to look but don't buy before you check prices at other dealers and Amazon, which may be lower than Midwest's. Then, if need be, you will be in a much better position to negotiate the purchase price of your mobility device from Midwest.

Medline - This was NOT delivered to my doorstep. 2 weeks later, and STILL no equipment - UGH!!

Medline is the best!!!…read more I needed some surgery on my ankle back on the 11th, insurance issues pushed it to the 18th. So we tried to order the knee walker I would need through a different vendor on the 13th. A lot of back and forth with other vendor, Apria,(did a review) and we get to Monday this week. So on Monday 25 we looked online for another vendor. We found Medline and placed it with them after giving insurance information. So now I have 2 orders for the same thing. I wanted to see which one would come first. I decided to call both on Wednesday 27th to get an update. Apria this time gave me different info saying it was back ordered, first time they ever they said it was back ordered. I called Medline and the rep said it was with billing and once cleared they would call me. Ok another waiting game. To my surprise I get a call from Medline later that saying it was being shipped. It should be here by Friday. To my horror as I am working down stairs the dog starts to flip out. "Ding dong", the doorbell goes, who could that be? The wife gets up to see and it my equipment? WTH, they said Friday not Thursday. Ok this is good. So I call Apria back to cancel the order, the rep says they have it ready to go, I tell her I was supposed to get a call when ready. She then says she needs to call the local office to confirm. Why do you need to call if it is ready to go I ask, she needed to make sure it is there. Don't bother I say as I don't need it from you anymore. 12 workdays for Apria and 4 for Medline. I know not all offices are the same as it came the office in my area, DC metro area, but I would tip my hat if I wore one.

I've been waiting over 2 weeks for these two items that were supposed to arrive in 2-4 business days! YAY!! I got text messages with tracking and shipping info, WAIT!! Now it says "delivered" a couple hours later. I got text messages out to find NO packages at my door! I live in a fairly small secured apartment building - NO ACCESS for anyone without whatever "code" is given by building management. It wasn't by ANY of the doors, especially the main door. Called the local company that my insurance contracted to provide the equipment, and they're going to personally deliver my equipment in 5 days, by a technician that will assemble or do "whatever" is needed for the equipment to be "ready to use". WELL, out of my frustration that Medline had the nerve to claim this equipment was DELIVERED, I contacted them. The 1st customer service representative got flustered with my refusal to "accept" her explanation. I was transferred to the supervisor, Alex, who was just as "unconcerned & unknowingly responsive". I accused her from reading from a script, because she kept repeating the same thing. Mind you, I worked in the medical field for over 30 years, so I wasn't about to accept the BS excuses. Medline may have great products, but their delivery service through Med Trans (their delivery company) REALLY sucks, and Medline's customer service support team, needs to learn to LISTEN and be more accommodating. If THEY can't research where my equipment was delivered - who can?!! The link to see the "delivery confirmation" is useless for me AND the medical supply company that the stuff was ordered from - probably, Medline too. WHY even have the link option to begin with?!!

Having had it up to *here* with Walgreens for a variety of reasons, I finally did some looking…read morearound and found Five Star Pharmacy. Though I'm in Park Ridge, they're near enough that I decided I wanted to give them a try and I like that they're an independent pharmacy. When I gave them a call, I think it was the owner herself that answered (though don't quote me on that). She said that they could do all the transfer stuff to get my prescriptions from Walgreens, and she confirmed that they took my insurance before going too far into the transfer info so that we'd be on the same page. She said that they'd be able to fill my prescription within a few hours once my insurance confirmed it was time to refill, and that was great since there are times I've had to wait a day or more to get it from Walgreens even though I think it's a fairly standard prescription. Then the thing that really surprised me is when she asked if I wanted it to be delivered--and then when I asked the price she said it was free. Another thing Walgreens has done away with in the last year or two is free delivery, so another point in the Five Star Pharmacy. They sent me a link to make the payment, so it was super easy. It was somewhat more expensive than what I paid at Walgreens, but I also don't know if the price of the medicine had increased a bit in the last few months. At any rate it wasn't so much higher that I wouldn't pay it for the quality of service an dot support an independent, local business (and pharmacies are particularly hard to find in the independent variety anymore). Once I made the payment, my prescription came within the next day (it may actually have been a few hours but I just can't recall when I made the payment). I was very pleased with the help, quick response/delivery and follow through. They are testing out a new type of prescription bottle in an effort toward sustainability and that is fantastic. Minor annoyance that the inside has some of the plastic folded in and because of that it makes it nearly impossible for me to just tip out a pill onto my hand since it gets stuck, but obviously not something I'd stop using them over even if they decided to switch to these permanently instead of the standard prescription bottle. I highly recommend them and really suggest that it's worth your while if you want to support a small, independent, women-owned business.
