Gould's Discount Medical - Front of store

I have written harsh reviews for Gould's Discount Medical in the past. I decided it was about time…read moreto update my review and raise my rating of this business. I still can't give it five stars because there are a few things that this business really needs to improve upon. This Spring /Summer I was trying to get all the medical equipment that I would need after my total knee replacement. I had recommendations from my Physical Therapist and also from the Orthopedic surgeon's office. After doing some research I knew that I needed a bariatric foldable walker, and a bariatric bedside commode. Originally I thought I would order them online. My husband and I decided to go to Gould:s not to purchase from them but to see in person the items we were thinking of ordering. Upon arrival at the store there was a single file line formed to be waited on. Not knowing if the line was for oxygen patients we asked at the register if we could look at the different walkers and commodes. The clerk nicely advised us to get in line. OK, but we were still planning on just looking and not purchasing at this time. By the luck of the draw when it was finally our turn we got a really nice gentleman. We first inquired about bariatric foldable walker. We didn't indicate we were not planning on buying it at that time. Our reasoning for this was I had assumed they would be higher priced than the internet. The gentleman went away to a back room for a few minutes and came back with the walker adjusted perfectly for my height. It fit me perfectly so we sat down to find out how much it was going to cost. The first step the employee took was to check if my insurance would allow an outright purchase or would it need to be a rental. After pulling up my information that was stored in their computer and updating my insurance info it turned out I was allowed to purchase it. So it turns out that the walker that was priced $154. would only be $99. which was the negotiated insurance price. Then the gentleman calculated my co-pay and it turned out my out of pocket price was $4. total. What! Of course we would buy it from them. The only catch was they needed a prescription from the doctor to qualify. We left and I contacted the doctor for the prescription which was faxed to Gould's. Then the bad news came. An employee from Gould's called and said my insurance would not cover the purchase because I'm not 300 lbs. It's true I'm nowhere close to that weight but my body shape doesn't fit the small walkers. If we bought it from them I couldn't even get the negotiated price. Unfortunately enough days had passed and time was of importance so my husband said we should just go ahead and buy it. When we went back and went to the check out register the price wouldn't pull up so the clerk called a supervisor over. The supervisor just pulled a price out of thin air so it was close to the insurance negotiated price of $99. I am frustrated but I also can't fault them that my insurance only caters to people over 300 lbs. I wish the person that initially handled our inquiry knew that was going to be a problem. Note: I never got them involved in the bedside commode because I found the perfect one online.

I injured my knee this spring, so knew I'd need to use a mobility scooter during the eight days…read morethis summer we spent at a convention at The Galt House, and for the back and forth trips to the Yum! Center where many of our events were being held. I searched online, and LMS was one of the companies that sounded most promising, so I submitted an online request for a quote. I had the quote by the next morning, and it came in over 25% lower than the national scooter rental company the convention committee had referred me to. The scooter was dropped off and waiting for me at the hotel by the time we arrived, it was in great shape, it was extremely comfortable and easy to drive, and it served me very well every day, all day. I left it with the bellman in the hotel lobby as I left, and LMS picked it up from there. My experience with LMS was perfect -- it went just like I hoped it would! I'd been worried about whether I'd be able to get around well enough to enjoy the convention, and because of the scooter, and the excellent service provided by LMS, it was completely hassle-free. I'm going back to Louisville later this year for another convention, plan to rent from them again for that week, and have already told others about them, too.

We've used Extreme Mobility over the years for home health needs, however our most recent encounter…read morebrings me to leave this review. We purchased a new electric hospital bed and rails and not long after the purchase the bed rails started giving us issues. We called in and they sent Donnie in for a service call. They collected the fee for the service call, however Donnie the technician couldn't fully repair he rails due to COVID and them not having access to the new part. To buy some time, he said he placed the order but he temporarily rigged the rails up so we could at least use them until the new part came in. Mind you, the rails started giving us trouble within the first month of them being new and installed so they should have a warranty on them to be replaced. Donnie said he would reach back out to us once the new rails came in which was 3/29/21. His temporary fix caused a huge noise to happen every time we put the head of the bed up and down, and the bar was broken but other than that they worked okay temporarily. This was a band aide. Still never being fully fixed. Again, we paid a service charge at this time. We wait, and wait for Donnie to contact us as he said he would when the new rails came in but we have never gotten a follow up from him. With COVID happening we were trying to be patient and hoped he would keep his word. We didn't call in because the temporary fix was working until recently until a few days ago (6/22) and a side of one of the rails popped out. I had to uninstall them by myself because if I didn't they were going to break the electric component of the hospital bed. I contact Extreme Mobility to ask for a follow up from Donnie about the part he ordered. He no longer works there, and they sent a new technician out. In Donnie's notes he wrote he came and fixed the part and closed the order. NOT TRUE! Per a conversation with Kim, office manager they are not willing to fix the bed correctly due to Donnie not doing his part, and they want us to pay another service charge and completely ignore the fact that Donnie never fixed the bed correctly to begin with. They blame us for not following up but they are the business who said they would follow up with us. The new technician (didn't get his name) that came on 6/8/22 made a comment that they have spent a lot of time cleaning up Donnie's mistakes or jobs that were left incomplete, however Kim denies that's the truth. Either way, the bed never got fully fixed, we paid ANOTHER SERVICE CHARGE TODAY for nothing and the owner and Kim have said we are the ones responsible for reaching back out to the company to receive an update on the new rails Donnie said he ordered, but they were on back order due to COVID. Absolutely no accountability and a waste of time and money. We were lifelong customers but we will never do business again due to the shady practices and service we received. In the end, they didn't care to make it right with the customer. They said it was our fault because a year had passed even when Donnie didn't keep his word. They only cared to collect another $60 service fee for a job we already paid for and never received complete service on. What a disappointment. I encourage you to go elsewhere because this company will not make their wrongs right and they deflect it onto the customer. I hope that $60 was worth it. Word of mouth goes along way.
