preface: one thing that's REALLLLLY been irritating lately is how there's so many kabob type trucks who a) serve mediocre food and b) label their menu with "lamb" and then give you gyro meat!! i know that technically it IS made of lamb but anyone who knows better KNOWS what i'm saying. the taste and quality is completely different between the two. I'm not complaining that they serve gyro meat, i'm complaining that they are calling it lamb, which gives the perception of nice, braised pieces of lamb meat in some sort of delicious sauce served over rice.
anyway, now that i'm done sounding snotty, here's the review.
yesterday, almost ready to throw in the towel on this genre of trucks, i waited in what seemed like a long line but it moved rather quickly, and I didn't realize that I was next.. about to walk away (see gyro rant above), the man asked if he could help me. he shared the good news of the lamb, so i proceeded..
i got the curry lamb platter, and GUESS WHAT! it was REAL lamb. not ground up, overly seasoned, lacking flavor gyro meat.. but rather, meat still in tact, cubed, slow cooked, delicious saucy lamb that came over perfect rice. it didn't stop there, it came with 2 sides (chickpeas and spinach were my choices, but they had others). the chickpeas were perfect, the spinach was standard, not bad at all but it doesn't get me excited the way other elements of this meal do.. even after the excitement of getting legit lamb wore off, i was still thrilled because it was so delicious.
BUT it got BETTER
I can't even accurately describe the fabulousity (yes i said it) of the green chutney and the naan.. both separately and together..and also intermingling with the actual entree. the green chutney was clearly scratch made, and im almost positive the naan was too. grilled, doughy, plump, perfect. the naan came with the dish, and i had to ask for the chutney (but they didnt charge me.. even though now i would certainly pay if they did!!) i actually regret throwing the rest away when i was done with my meal. i miss it.
friendly service, great amount of food for the price, and (as you've seen above) great food. i don't like to eat the same thing 2 days in a row, but i'd be withholding the truth if i didn't tell you that i was back out there today, looking for the truck.. no luck. i will be stalking you, mayur house of curry and kabob. read more
