Lamb over rice with mild sauce
    Carol C.

If you judge a food truck by how long the line is, then you'll miss out on this one. They are not only delicious but extremely efficient. Before I could step away from the counter, my order was ready. Got the lamb over rice and was really impressed with the taste. I heeded the advice of my fellow yelpers and got a side of tzatziki sauce. It is very tasty and a little sweet. My advice- If you don't like any red sauce, don't say Mild. Mild = one squirt. And that one squirt is spicy. You have to stir it around with the extra tzatziki sauce that you definitely should get on the side.

The popular NoVa food truck has put up a brick and mortar location in Crystal City. They are serving all of their regular menu items from within a cafe in an office building. As the name implies, your choice of protein (chicken, steak, lamb) is served over basmati rice with a side salad and their own tzatziki sauce. If you ask for spicy they'll top your meal in a delicious jalapeño based sauce which is only 2/5 on my made up spice scale. It's fairly cheap, under $10, and the portions are large enough for 2 meals. It's good to know I can get my lamb lunch fix and don't have to go chasing around the food truck.

Been stalking these jabronis for weeks on Twitter to plan my feast at their delicious sounding food truck in Balston and today I finally had my date with destiny. Expectations that are set so high are rarely met, but god damn this place did not fail to earn my business whenever they are around the block. The line was a little long but they churn out orders faster than you could imagine. There is only one reason this got 4 stars instead of 5 from me.... I should of got extra meat because holy shit was this was as close to heaven as Ive ever been. After my first bite into my Crispy Lamb Gyro Over Rice I knew I had made an unforgivable mistake not getting more. Crispy lamb gyro meat decorated my plate like crispy strings of delicious goodness. I got an extra side of spicy sauce which I should of paired with another tzatziki to drown my body with their fresh sauces. The fresh diced jalapenos were an excellent touch to the entire bowl. As I am writing this, I am wrestling with my own self control and conscious not to go back to the truck to order another bowl make sweet tender love to.

This is by far the best foodtruck cuisine I've ever had. It comes through Rosslyn, VA a lot on North Lynn St so I get it probably a couple times a month. I usually go with the chicken + steak ($10) and then get the spice level as hot. I've also gotten the lamb with the normal spice level and it's also quite tasty. The meat is always cooked well along with the rice. The salad and cucumbers they mix into the container are great too. They manage to get a ton of flavors into their dishes and they definitely don't skimp you on portions either as I end up full and satisfied every time I get it. This was the single hardest part of giving up going out to lunch for lent this year. Two warnings: 1) If they are near you be prepared to wait in a line. They work quickly but there can often be a line between 10-20 minutes to get your food - worth it though. 2) If you get the extra hot spice level be prepared to cry because it is crazy hot. I tell myself not to get it but end up doing it every time. It's too good.

    Lamb bowl. Amazing.

A bowl of sunshine and happiness - that is what you get when you order the lamb at Over the Rice. Let me elaborate: the bowl starts with a bed of yellow, sticky (but definitely not mushy) basmati rice. On top of the rice are pieces of perfectly crispy, deliciously seasoned (but not too seasoned) gyro lamb. A small side salad and two pitas are thrown in for good measure, and are topped off with tzatziki sauce and a light hot sauce (the levels of spiciness range from none to extra hot; I wasn't feeling very adventurous so I went with mild, which still packed a little heat). Hands down the best meal I've had out of a food truck. A few other things that Over the Rice does well: 1) generous portions; 2) reasonable prices ($9 for all that food is pretty decent for Arlington); 3) efficient line management; and 4) a good-looking truck.

There was a bit of a line but it moved fast. Even on a rainy day this food truck is super popular. Food was excellent, I got the lamb over rice, normal spice, with extra meat. Comes with yellow Spanish rice and side salad. I was full for the rest of the day! Next time I want to try it spice level hot.

Yeah, I didn't slow down to take a pic until it was half gone....

I have been watching this truck for nearly a month now and every time its around there is a long line. Today I finally decided to give them a shot and it was well worth it! Even though the line was long, they were very quick. I opted for the normal spicy combo steak and chicken over salad (instead of rice) and it was delish! It was tons of food for $11 and I ate it all. Judge me, IDC! I will be a regular customer from here on out, especially since it is so hard to eat fairly healthy in the Arlington area. I get tons of protein and veggies, which is a winner in my book! On top of that, I get a nice-sized meal prep containter to reuse! So give them a try if they are ever in your area!!

    Chicken and steak over rice

I was walking over to my usual food truck when OTR piqued my fancy from across the street. A strange anime man and his animal companions beckoned to me with his colorful tray of food. Could it be - another Halal spot competing with the one I was just headed to?? My budding relationship with the other one had just begun, but the temptation was just too much. I got the chicken and steak over rice (hot), which came out to $11. And uh, it was so dang tasty with a solid amount of heat. It comes with a small side salad and two mini warm pitas. The portions were just right, but it was a bit smaller and more expensive than my companion down the street. Fortunately, there's room enough in my belly and heart for the both of them. Just hope they don't catch me.

My co-worker got the combo, chicken & steak so o thought I would post hers because boss and I got chicken.

One of my favorite food trucks. Service is quick and you get a really solid amount of food for the price.

I'd have enjoyed it more if I had ordered it without bubbles. Overall a great experience. My first food in DC after driving non stop from Pittsburgh, where I had just driven to from Buffalo. A crazy long drive which ended in me eating a ton of food from this truck and so it will always be a really positive memory for me. But if you've already tried it and enjoyed it, then I just Sang to the choir. Wheeeeeelllllls... I better be going. I have to talk to my friends from Ireland, Scotland, and Wheels.
