I am a full time fishing guide in the Fort Myers area but I vacation annually in the lower Keys…read moreevery Fall. Last year (2018) my lower skeg hit bottom here in the Keys and this bottom can be very unforgiving, i.e. rock hard bottom. Well it ripped the bottom portion of my skeg off and bent the output shaft. Took it to The Prop Doc on Stock Island based on a local fishing guide's high recommendation. He straightened out the output shaft without taking the shaft out of the lower unit, I didn't think that was even possible. That alone saves a ton of labor which saves people like you and me, money. When I picked up the newly welded skeg, it was literally impossible to see where he wielded the new metal onto the original skeg. Almost like he gave me an entire new lower unit housing. After approximately 700 hours of use on the rebuilt skeg, I hit something in the water (4 feet in depth) and thought my entire lower unit would be gone. Upon closer inspection, my lower unit was not only ok and functional, and the wielded skeg was still intact. However, it was bent and I therefore waited till I got to the Lower Keys so I could have the Prop Doc fix it as I didn't really trust anyone else. I pick up the repaired skeg tomorrow and I'm confident it will look like new, as it did the last time he repaired it. He is "The Man" when it comes to outboard lower units. Capt Paul Hobby
