For example, when my tail light was out, they charged me $35 just for installation--something I later learned to do myself in about two minutes. Then, I heard a sound from my tire, and they said it'd cost $600. When I hesitated, they warned me it was risky to drive, so I agreed. Later, I had an oil change--they charged me $80 for synthetic oil, which should last 6,000 miles. But at 2,500 miles, my engine oil light came on. I checked, and there was no oil. I had to get it redone elsewhere. Next, I had a catalytic converter issue. Merlin charged me $300 for installation after I bought the part myself. Later, I smelled smoke from my A/C vent. They told me it would go away after some miles, but it didn't. My engine light stayed on, and after about 7,000 miles, the car wouldn't accelerate. They said it was the catalytic converter again--$1,500. I had no choice, so I paid. They had already charged me $99 for the diagnostic. One week later, I heard another noise from the tire. I asked them to check, but they wanted another diagnostic fee. I reminded them I had just done one, but they insisted it was separate. I paid $99 again. Then they said it was the tire bearings--$600. I was suspicious, so I took my car elsewhere. Turns out it wasn't the bearings; it was brake pads. I've realized they exaggerate issues to charge more. I've wasted $3,000 in two years. If I'd gone to another mechanic first, I'd have avoided all this. I've seen other reviews saying the same. I don't recommend Merlin. If you have car issues, go somewhere else.

Upon further inspection, the fly wheel was also beyond saving ( see attached pictures from Merlin). I was so stressed out, but they worked with us to find a way to pay off the amount of work, and I am beyond relieved! But, it gets worse, the part was out of stock everywhere. So after about 5 days, when they finally got the part, they stayed after hours to finish it up so we could pick it up the very same evening. Special shout out to Patrick and Steve whom we worked with, and Steve for offering me tissues! My husband drove the car home and said it feels like a completely different vehicle (in a good way) I would definitely recommend Merlin's for honest and timely work. We are so appreciative.

Instead, it has been sitting in a town in Washington for several days with absolutely no movement. We have called more than 20 times trying to get an update or even basic information about where our vehicle is and when we can expect it to arrive. We were finally told there was an issue with the transport truck, but there has been little to no communication about what is being done to resolve the problem or when our vehicle will actually continue its journey. We understand that mechanical problems and unexpected delays can happen. What is unacceptable is the complete lack of communication and customer service afterward. When a company is entrusted with someone's vehicle and a cross-country delivery, customers should not have to make 20+ phone calls just to find out why their car hasn't moved for days. At this point, our vehicle is significantly delayed, still in Washington, and we have not been provided with a clear plan or reliable delivery date. This has been incredibly frustrating and stressful. Based on the lack of communication and assistance we have received so far, I cannot recommend this company.

My bumper was fixed, painted, and buffed but it was done very unprofessional and lazily. The bumper and fender was left with buffing streaks all over to which they responded to just wipe with a rag. They didn't bother to cover the rest of the truck when painting, and I was left with paint splatters all over my windshield, doors, and hood. When I called they said to run it through a car wash, but it didn't work. When I took it back they told me they couldn't do anything and to take it to a detailer. They stated that they didn't do detailing services there and I asked how they buffed the bumper and fender when fixed and left it with streaks in the first place if they didn't detail, but they didn't have an answer. The whole staff was very rude after I received my car. Seems like they just wanted to milk the insurance for as much money they could and be done with it, but didn't care about customer satisfaction. This is almost unheard of in the towing business. He safely transported me, my 2 dogs and my car to the Hyundai dealer in Sycamore. I have no complaints whatsoever. Mike got in and did his job quickly and effectively. He helped me out a great deal in the process; having had no problem with giving me and my dogs a lift to the dealership so that I could wait for my husband there. Car wasn't damaged by the tow. Although it's never fun to call roadside assistance (especially during a busy holiday weekend) my experience was an extremely positive one.

I was inside their building for less than 5 minutes. In that time tri-state had begun to hook up my vehicle. (Shame on me for not having a parking sticker for that parking lot, that IS on me). I ran to my car explaining to them what happened and I was met with a "I don't care, lady". As all of my belongings (wallet, ID, phone, etc) were in my car, I ran over to grab them before my vehicle was towed away. The driver rushed towards me. I got nervous and slammed and locked the door with myself inside. He began screaming at me to get out of the car. When I told him "No, you're making me nervous." His response was for me to "suck and choke on his balls". I told him I was calling the police and at that point his response had gotten the attention of residents who were trying to protect me.
