I'm assuming the business owner keeps getting my review taken down so I will continue to post this. I was dropping off medicine to a sick friend. I was inside their building for less than 5 minutes. In that time tri-state had begun to hook up my vehicle. (Shame on me for not having a parking sticker for that parking lot, that IS on me). I ran to my car explaining to them what happened and I was met with a "I don't care, lady". As all of my belongings (wallet, ID, phone, etc) were in my car, I ran over to grab them before my vehicle was towed away. The driver rushed towards me. I got nervous and slammed and locked the door with myself inside. He began screaming at me to get out of the car. When I told him "No, you're making me nervous." His response was for me to "suck and choke on his balls". I told him I was calling the police and at that point his response had gotten the attention of residents who were trying to protect me. He unhooked my vehicle and scurried away. I'll attach of photo of my original comment that had gotten removed. Shame on tri-state towing for not firing workers who sexually assault female customers. My car was towed from the DeKalb oasis by Tri-State the Sunday after July 4th; so it was a pretty big travel day. Our tow truck driver, Mike, arrived within 20 minutes of me placing my call. This is almost unheard of in the towing business. He safely transported me, my 2 dogs and my car to the Hyundai dealer in Sycamore. I have no complaints whatsoever. Mike got in and did his job quickly and effectively. He helped me out a great deal in the process; having had no problem with giving me and my dogs a lift to the dealership so that I could wait for my husband there. Car wasn't damaged by the tow. Although it's never fun to call roadside assistance (especially during a busy holiday weekend) my experience was an extremely positive one. read more

Car was stuck in a ditch at a 45° angle after running out of gas and being pulled off the road. Service man came out not knowing that he was going to have to pull my car back up on to the road and thinking only having to refill the gas tank. Took extra time to pull my car out, fill the tank, and give me a jump start. Was very very thankful for the service. Really went above and beyond. read more

I broke down at a gas station in DeKalb about 2 miles from their office. It took an hour and 10 minutes for my tow to arrive. That was bad enough, but the dispatcher said nothing about the tow possibly taking a while, either the first time I called or the second time I called--after an hour to check if my tow was still coming. He was tough to understand and sounded extremely bothered that I called. The one star is for the pleasant demeanor of the tow driver when he did arrive. He didn't really know how to operate my Prius well enough to get it on the truck or off of it, but he was very nice. My car was towed maybe 5 miles and it cost $65. Reasonable, but not nearly cheap enough for the wait or the quality of the service. Steer clear. read more

It's no secret that tow-truck companies are not the most savory or sympathetic of businesses. However, Tri-State towing takes it to a new low. A friend of mine was visiting me and had his car towed. I did not even know the lot was a tow-lot because of inadequate signage. It cost him $200 to get his car out. That's a firm price, in case you were wondering. That's relatively standard, I suppose. But inside the place, it's a whole scene of human misery. Some girl was crying because she did not have the money. Their only response is to shrug their shoulders and point to the ATM that is conveniently located inside the place. Sigh. Please, Tri-State, don't act like you're doing us a favor or something. Car got a flat tire. Call roadside assistance. They sent out Tri-State. They put on a full size spare, they did not put it on correctly. A couple of days later the tire fell off while I was driving with my had my family in the car. Luckily I was able to stop with hurting anyone, or flipping my car. I got stuck twice in the same night. The first time, they charged me $210 and got me out pretty quickly. I traveled only about 5 miles down the road (very slowly) and still somehow got stuck in a snow drift. I called them to get me out again and they quoted me $650! They said it was too far for them to go. I googled their location to my location. It was 15 miles away and only about 5 miles from where they got me from the first time. Tri state towing is a scandal, they left an extremely vague street sign that confused people into thinking they could park on the other side of the street. It specifically stated "no parking on this side of street" one would think this implicates no towing on the opposite side of the street. Well apparently I guessed wrong. This is unjustified and is deliberate disrespectful. The car in the picture is where my car was parked before it got towed, notice how there are ZERO street signs on that side of the street and notice how difficult it would be to read a sign on the opposite side of the street. Tri-State towing has been my number one go to for towing!! They arrive in a timely manor. IF you're a girl like me where you can be airheaded enough to lock yourself out of your own vehicle they are the ones to call. I got into a car accident back in 2015 and the driver I believe his name was Matt who arrived to tow my car arrived before the police officer had. Cleaned up the road way and assured me that everything would be okay. Was very EASY, no brain damage process and even helped my insurance adjuster with my claim. These people towed my car from my own parking spot that I pay for at my small 3 unit apartment complex in the middle of the night. I even had my parking permit (which I paid money for!) in the car, though it was partially covered by another permit. It didn't say it needed to be totally unobstructed ANYWHERE on the parking pass or in my lease. Plus, my car had been parked there in that same spot every day for the past 8 months, and there were empty spots in the lot. Makes no sense at all. What the heck am I paying for when I pay for my right to park here if I'm gonna get towed anyways. When I went to the place to pick up my car, they ignored me and preceded to block me in as I tried to leave after paying them because he said I pulled out too fast and needed to go rake their gravel back into place. read more

I have no words for how awful and inconsiderate the staff members of this company are. The specific individuals I had to deal with when my car was unlawfully towed from my own parking lot was just terrible. I recently was in a car accident where I required a rental car in the mean time while my car was in the shop. I went to my property management office to get a temporary parking pass for my rental car and as it is not a sticker, which I am used to, but a hang tag. I had the hang tag properly displayed in my car from the rear view mirror and around 10 o clock at night, my rental car was towed. I called the towing office to tell them they made a mistake and that there is in fact a valid pass hanging, they denied that the dates on my pass were visible and said I still have to pay in order to pick my car up. Upon picking up my rental car, the doors were locked so I had to call and request someone come open the door. A woman said he would be right there and after 10 minutes go by, I call again to check that I was at the right door. The same woman rudely responded that she would said she would be right there. Once she finally got to the door, she did not acknowledge me for an additional 10 minutes and continued to present with her rude attitude and displayed no signs of consideration for myself or the situation. I had to pay to get my car back that was towed from my own lot when I do in fact have a parking pass. This is straight bull shit and I will be sticking my property management office with the bill. read more

Although my run in with Tri State was unfavorable to me, the company its self truly needs improvement. I had my car towed from an apartment parking lot for no sticker.. This is fine, they were doing their jobs as they were contracted to by the property owners. They do provide fast reliable service. (maybe too fast) However, Tri State - being in the relocation business should learn to play by the rules governing their organization and its operations. Tri State has a policy that states: No Credit Cards for any Relocation service. However they willingly accept credit cards to non relocation tows. This is a violation of DeKalb Municipal Code (35.03/Q) This is also a violation of Illinois Motor Vehicle Code (625ILCS5/4-203:10) I would have given Tri State a lower rating, but in general the office clerk was polite and very attentive to my needs. The clerk showed me where the car was and provided light small talk. Although relocation is never good for the vehicle owner, these guys were nice and just their jobs. I broke down on the side of the road at night when it was raining and foggy. I have tow coverage through my insurance. Within minutes of asking my insurance for a tow my phone rang from Tri-State Towing telling me they'd be there within 10-15 minutes. The driver arrived promptly and towed us. He was very courteous. He had us towed home very promptly and dropped the car exactly where I asked. Overall I recommend and would use Tri-State Towing in the future if I ever have car trouble. read more

4/24/2019: Beware of Motorcycle Towing! Called on the phone and was quoted $75.00 and was charged $85.00 on site. The placement of tie down straps caused extensive damage to chrome finish. I called and was informed that the manager would be in touch. NO CALL BACK! Yanking a car up maybe fine. But the extra $10.00 (original phone quote) and Damage to my Bike and No Return Phone Call lacks integrity. Be sure and check your vehicle for damage after its been towed. read more

Got a tow yesterday matt picked me up in st charles and gave me a tow and ride back to dekalb. When i called the woman on the other line was super friendly and was prompt in sending someone out. When Matt arrived he was quick to hook up and friendly right from the get go. Also when in conversation made me less stressed about my car and made the tow more enjoyable. I got my car towed from my own parking lot where I had a permit on it. They towed it because it was tapped on and not "permanently affixed". I just got a new car which is why it was tapped on. The lady I spoke to was not understanding at all, zealous, stubborn and extremely rude when I tried to present my case in a calm manner, speaking about the law they are breaking probably more than once. In order to "pay my bills" as the manager stated, was her reasoning. These people are crooks and increased there tow costs 50 dollars within a year! They take cash only and are cheating people out of money for their own selfish motives! Just used this company this past weekend to tow my husbands truck. They did a great job. When I called they told me the exact time they hoped to get to us (they were at an accident at the time) and gave me a quote. Called this morning for a tow. Was told they'd pick up the car between 1-1:30pm and they'd call me when it was delivered to the dealership so I could give my cc info to pay for the tow. Had to call at 5pm to ask where they were because the car hadn't been picked up and no one called me to say why. The same gentleman I spoke with in the morning said it should have been picked up already. Although he was nice, I had to tell him the car was still in the driveway and my mom has been waiting at the house this whole time. He said he'd call the driver and get it picked up. 6:30pm a driver and his helper showed up. No apology from either of them and no explanation as to why the pickup was 5 hours late. No call from the gentleman at customer service either. 7pm I called and spoke with a nice 3rd shift woman who just got in and didn't know about the situation. She said the night guy would be in very soon and he'd give me a call. It's now 8:15pm, no call from either pickup guy for my payment info, no call from the night guy. I'm highly irritated with this company wasting half my mother's day causing her to have to cancel appointments and the lack of communication, professionalism and common courtesy to notify me as the customer of what happened today. I expect someone of managment level to contact me, to discount the charges and to explain to me why all of this transpired the way it did. Locked my keys in my car and they had to come and open it for me at Walmart. I was in the store and the insurance company gave Ken/Matt the wrong number and couldn't reach me. Ken/Matt waited close to an hour for me to call the insurance company and find out they were waiting for me. Why is it these college students have nothing but nasty things to say when their car gets towed from a lot that you need to have a permit in. They need to learn how to a accept that they are at fault and the toe company is just doing their job. They say the employees are scum bags, do they know the employees personally, "NO" so don't judge them because of your mistake, take responsibility. When you walk into that shop, don't scream and yell at them for your wrong doing as it is your fault. Sure the price is high to get your car out, but you have to realize it is not their price, it is the city of DeKalb who sets the process so if you have a problem with it then take it up with the city, not the little man out doing their job. My son got stuck when he pulled off on the shoulder. Huge storms were coming through the area and I was concerned it would get stuck further. Matt said he'd be out in abut 45 minutes and made it there in less than 1/2 that time. He quickly got the car on the road and us on our way.
