There are some pros and cons about this place. More cons than pros. However the pros are pretty good. They have their own parking lot which on Whyte Ave is a blessing. They also have a huge beautiful patio which my friend and I enjoyed on the sunny day that we attended here. Inside is kinda neat too when I went to use the washroom. Cons Average food. I ordered the Spicy Udon bowl which came with bulgogi beef, noodles, cabbage and a fried egg. The egg was overcooked. The rest of the dish was fine but not overly spicy. I actually had to ask for hot sauce. Definately not worth the 22 bucks I paid. Which brings me to the next con Price. Everything is overpriced here. To pay 27 bucks for a Hawaiian pizza. No thanks Finally Service I don't know if our server was trying to be rude or just was clueless but we had to prompt her to fill our waters, get our cocktails etc. And she didn't ask us how our food is. Great location! Mkt is located right by whyte Avenue. The building is a big old industrial building. This place is very cool inside from the decoration to the layout. The food is very sport bar like. I ordered the mushroom tacos and they were pretty good. It was missing a little bit of seasoning but in general decent. The service was decent and polite. One of my favourite bars for the summertime! Bar food is usually quite mediocre for me but MKT really does it right. The atmosphere is really great and gives off a cool vibe. They also played Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus so that's how you know they mean business. The staff were friendly and the waitress was kind enough to move us to a table by the heater when she saw that I was cold. Highly highly highly recommend getting the nachos here. The cheese covers 95% of the chips unlike other places where only the top is covered and you're left with sad dry corn chips at the end. The pizza here is also a thin crust where it's almost crunchy. The corned beef is actually Montreal smoked meat which is not quite right. The servers are all young and pretty and never last more than 3 months. The patio is nice, but good luck getting a spot on a nice day. They usually reserve 2 tables out there for celebrities in case they show up. This makes me mad. The inside is kind of cold and dark. I'm happy to say this visit was an improved experience, but we visited for a Glutenberg Stout release event, so perhaps we received better dedicated service staff than other patrons experienced. The menu here always looks amazing and I've been for lunch a couple of times with co-workers, but I always end up slightly disappointed by the quality of the food. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things; I hear their burgers are great. Most recently I tried their lobster truffle mac and cheese, because wow, doesn't that sound amazing? And it was on their list of "favorites" so I assumed it must be great. Alas. I can make a better mac & cheese than that. The cheese was barely possible to taste, and for some reason there were bits of onion all through it despite the fact it's supposed to be lobster and truffle flavoured -- who mixes onion with lobster? Why would anyone think this would be a good idea?? Ugh. All I ended up tasting was onion, basically, and when I started picking out the onions it was just pretty tasteless. The roast cauliflower starter was very tasty however, and the beer selection was good, so clearly there are some good dishes but so far my luck at ordering has not been great, and service also tends to be a little slow. It's a really nice looking venue with loads of space though and a great location, so hey, good choice if you just want a beer and some shared starters. I love MKT, especially during the summer on the patio with a happy hour priced beer in my hand! They lost a star for consistency as one day their chicken sandwich was AMAZING and the other day it was thinner than a pancake. My favorite healthy option is their kale salad - it's FANTASTIC and so well priced. Their selection of beer are always really great, I love the glitter bomb and their high ABV IPAs. I wish they had more food happy hour specials daily though. The service is always fantastic and it's great to watch the cars drive by and part of the city skyline. This is our go to if you want a large selection of beer and some TVs to watch a game. read more

Man alive this place has definitely gone downhill in terms of servers / management, but as you know you can't blame the staff, as it all stems from the management. When it opened it was absolutely fabulous. I had every birthday party there, every celebration, the happy hour menu was incredible. Literally hands-down the best in the city. That ended after the first year and since then the staff I guess led by a strange management team that find customers a bother to them. For example this summer even though it's a sunny +22 day the bar -- the patio is rarely open and when it ia they provide one server who basically won't get you a drink but will take your money. No bar tender. The craziest behaviour for a hospitality business. The worst part is they don't even bother to wipe down the counter at the bar which was filled with dirt and filth even though it was completely packed there was no where to sit it was so busy yet there the one staff member outright refused to serve anybody and when you ask what the heck ia going on all they do is make nonsense excuses as to why. Never apologetic never upfront. In today's world where there is a weather app right on the phone the manager has a choice of scheduling people to work. So why aren't they? Also management is responsible for training people to treat customers with respect. But they don't. I've brought people to the patio there multiple times now and every time it's just shockingly disorganized dirty and the girl servers are pretty yes - but super rude - very bad treatment of customers. So far the bartenders are friendly and somewhat interested but not quite the same as when they first opened. They sort of go through the motions versus really liking their job. So once again it comes full Circle, leads back to management somebody there or the group of managers that are there are rubbing their staff the wrong way or they too don't like their job for some reason. Hopefully they can resolve this in time for next summer it's such a wonderful location and this complaint is not only shared by me, everyone in ears reach on that patio are always complaining to no avail. read more

We waited for an hour for our food, no manager visited at any point, and our server was unapologetic, which may have had to do with the fact that there was still an 18% tip added to our tab, so she got paid either way. It's one thing when you have a bad experience which somehow falls through the cracks because it's busy. It's another altogether when you complain your food is 40 mins late, nobody apologizes, no manager comes, and it still takes another 20 min. The food was pretty good, which earned them their second star. Update: Second star removed. I came back again for a party. We asked the manger to use the closed patio for a few min to deliver a heartfelt birthday speech to a woman who's father recently passed away. Head of security comes out, rudely kicks us out of the patio halfway through the speech. We tell him that we asked the manager (presumably his boss). The security guy pretends he's the owner and says he doesn't care what the manger says, and continues to very rudely kick us out. Several people in the party said it ruined their whole night. We ran up a pretty big tab with appies, entrees, drinks, and champagne for everyone, and this group was not a bunch of rowdy 20 year olds. I have only been to MKT once before, and after coming here again, it is clear that this is the place to go on Whyte. It was packed! There is a huge selection of beers to choose from! Thursday is Alberta beer nights! 2.25 for a pint of Alberta draught and definitely a great way to spend a Thursday night. Went there with some girls on a tuesday evening. We sat on their patio, which I thought was pretty nice. Started with some drinks: peach lemonade - so good, but VERY sweet, i suggest to drink with a glass of water or dilute it cranberry lime mojito - so refreshing, loved it for appies: half nachos with chicken and guacamole - the half size is actually big, and the guacamole is SO DAMN good but i'd say skip the chicken because it's just ripped up pieces of chicken not.. that amazing and entrées: stadium fries, sub tater tots - so good stadium fries with pulled pork - the pork is so dry, it could use some sauce, don't recommend hot wings - they were okay, nothing out of this world overall, their food is pretty good and based on solely food i'd totally come back. however, the service was not up to par. Our first server was kind of rude, and didn't give us menus when we asked twice. We later changed tables as the high tables were uncomfortable for our short legs. Our second server was much better, but couldn't seem to bring us water every time we asked and forgot to ring in our hot wings. So for patio season vibes, great drinks and nachos i'd recommend. Tonight we went to MKT on Gateway and was looking forward to a night out on the town. The restaurant is located in what appears to be an old station for the railway which is fantastic. There was ample parking and a very large space inside the pub. MKT is well known for their beer having 60 or more on tap. The place accommodated both small and large groups and even had a private room off to the side. Bathrooms were located upstairs along with another bar and more seating. Upon reading it looks like they have some amazing specials throughout the week along with some dancing during the weekends. When we arrived the place was considered full with two large groups and several small tables. The noise was considerable but that is to be expected with such a large open space. Atmosphere was great, had tv's to watch the game and had some great thought into the decor etc. We were attended to within 5 minutes of sitting down and were served a couple of drinks quite quickly. There was two tables next to us and by the time the server came back to us to take our food order, the table next to us was attended to three times as the server kept on bringing them drinks. I put my empty bottle to the side of the table to note to the server that I was ready for another drink but it wasn't either seen or failed to register that I was ready. Once the server came to take our food order, I was offered another drink which was great however it took about 5 minutes to get my second drink which I think was a tad too long. Once the food arrived, 18 minutes from when the server left we dove into our food. My partner had mussels along with a salad and I had their fried chicken. My partner said the salad and the mussels were great. However, my chicken was burnt. I waved down the server and asked for them to be sent back. She left me with the fries and the coleslaw and took the chicken back to the kitchen. The server came back about 10 minutes later and mentioned that the chicken was about to come out but by that time my partner was already finished her meal and so I asked if I could get them to go which she said would not be a problem. We ordered some coffees and they were fantastic and were checked on if we needed anything else. We said just the chicken to go and the bill and within a few minutes we received the chicken in a to go bag. The server explained to us the reason why it took so long was that the kitchen redid the entire meal. So I believe there was some miscommunication between the server and the kitchen but it happens. What really grinds my gears though, after paying the bill in full (no discounts from the burnt chicken or long wait time) is when I get home I grab a piece of chicken because I was hungry and bite into it and I find again that the chicken is burnt. I am completely disappointed in this pub and will avoid ordering that dish again. Great location, great building, lots of items to choose from, but wait time and quality is a big question for me with this place. Went here for a staff party and have previously been here a couple times before with just friends. Arrived at 7:45pm and security promptly asked for ID, despite minors being welcome until 9:00pm. Security was very persistent about the minor in our party being out before 9:00pm, as this is their policy this is understandable. Service was very slow after we had sat down, although it was a Friday night and we were a part of a large group. Unfortunately once we had been served, the food was very average and disappointing. The $59 smokehouse platter contained very dry over-cooked brisket and over seasoned ribs. This was an opinion shared across our table between those who had ordered it. For this price we were extremely let down. None of the food that was ordered stood out above any other typical bar food, which would have been much cheaper. Despite the dissatisfying menu the extensive beer selection was impressive and the cocktails we had were enjoyable and worth the price. Overall, the atmosphere, drinks, and decor was pleasant. As it approached 9:00pm the same security guard confronted our minor, who was obviously dependent on us, and rudely told her that she had to leave. While this is their policy we felt it was inappropriate and offensive for him to direct the message to her, as opposed to her guardians. Although this does not reflect the overall security staff, we feel this employee lacked professionalism and was inconsiderate of the customer. We are unlikely to return to MKT in the future due to the poor service and unenjoyable food. read more

Today I went to MKT with my daughter as we decided to grab a dessert before walking home. I assumed they took Apple Pay but discovered when we got the bill that they did not. The only cash we had on us was a $10, so we apologized profusely that we couldn't leave a tip (which would have amounted to $1.50 despite the slow service). The waitress was extremely rude and stomped off without saying anything. Over $1.50. Unfortunate experience as I have frequented this place quite a bit and love the food and drinks. I've been to MKT a bunch of times! I find it a really cool/fun atmosphere! I like this place because there is a lot of room. The bathrooms are clean, the food comes out relatively fast, and the servers are nice. Tonight I decided to branch out and try the veggie burger. I am a carnivore through and through, but sometimes I randomly crave a veggie burger. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was! Paired with the "fries supreme" it ended up being a really nice meal! They had the game on all the TVs and it was packed but not so busy we couldn't find a table. The evening was topped off with a really good folk/pop singer. We started with the spicy Korean pork ribs, and the oven-fresh pretzels n dip (we had a second order because they were so good). The mains included an outstanding mac n cheese (el dente noodles that were mixed with a freshly made white wine and cheese sauce, and crushed raw garlic. It was then covered with bread crumbs and toasted until there was a brown crust). We also had a delightful fish and chips made with fresh cut potatoes. Oh sweet Meat.. One of my favs restaurants and truly mostly compliments to the restaurant. It is located in old strathcona, it is a spacious, modern and an inviting restaurant. The king of the menu is meat and it comes in different options. You also have chicken and pork. It is a sharing style place so be prepared to share your meal with your friends. Portions are good size, not very large so you do need to order three portions for two if you want to feel full. The side dishes are fantastic.. Try the corn bread.. It is so good!!! . Not a good place for a dieter for sure. I have been there a few times and I haven't waited for too long or felt rushed after finishing my food. Service is consistently good. My only suggestion to the owner is to maybe use some sort of door to enter the bathrooms. If you are siting by the bathroom area, the traffic is high and also you can actually peek people in it. I have sat a couple of times around there and It felt kind of funny. Other than that.. Great place to eat and grab a drink. Very causal and relatively affordable so it is recommended for a visit. While I can't say that I've visited this place terribly frequently, my experiences have been middling. My last visit included a mediocre virgin drink (the fruit was good though) and some delicious tuna poké. Previous visits have included okay wings and stellar salads so it varies. I think I might have tried the fries here too. Service is middling -- sometimes it is better than others -- nothing to really remark upon. What this place has is space. There's a lot of it. And while it can get pretty noisy inside, the patio is pretty nice on a good day. The drink menu is pretty extensive if you drink beer but as I do not, it is much more limited. I guess I'm more likely to visit other Whyte avenue eating establishments than this one if I'm choosing the venue, but will definitely come here if friends are going to be here too! read more

MKT is a pretty large sports bar, well known for their selection of beer! I've been a few times and had very mixed experiences, the service is not consistently good. One time I walked out as the server didn't come near us for good twenty minutes to even offer us a drink. It's taken me a year to get over it and give them another chance. The building is cool, a converted old train station, inside there are TVs everywhere and a cool display of kegs along one wall a perfect destination for sports fans and beer lovers. This time, I went for a lunch meeting and had a prominent booth seat and the service was excellent. The menu is decent, mostly pub grub and various sharing plates. I was not up for sharing and ordered myself the bison burger with goats cheese and cranberry relish. The meat was a bit overcooked but still really tasty paired with the cheese and relish. In the hunt for a patio to have some drinks on to celebrate a friends birthday, we stumbled across MKT recently. Alas, there was no room available on the patio, but we snagged a table large enough for our group of 8 inside. First off, we sat there for approximately 10 minutes before a server even acknowledged us. Many walked by, nobody said anything. When a server finally did stop by and took our drink orders (7 drinking and 1 water as DD) we were informed after ordering that there would be an automatic 18% gratuity, despite not ordering food. When a couple members of our group commented on this (ie. so, if we went to the bar and ordered drinks this wouldn't apply?) the server said "okay, then", rolled here eyes, and walked away. After another 10 minutes of questioning whether or not she was returning with drinks, she returned to ask if we were going to accept the 18% gratuity or leave. We should have just left at that point, but decided to go ahead and have a drink. Shortly thereafter, a couple people left (bringing the number down to 6), and the rest of us left not too long after that. After settling our tab, and paying our 18% gratuity, despite some of the worst service I've ever encountered, we went elsewhere where we were treated much better and actually received service. Most of our group likely tipped around 18% anyways, but it felt like it was actually earned. read more

Beers, wings and friends surrounded by MKT atmosphere = Really good night! MKT is one of the restaurants/bars of the Century Hospitality Group based in Edmonton and they have done very well with the old Canadian Pacific Strathcona Station. They have a big selection of beers and tasty options of food too, but the best part is the service. I'd been here several times, on each one the service is what I appreciate the most. The servers know very well their products, they seem confident when a recommendation is given. You won't feel like you're just one more customer, they stop by frequently, refill your water, bring more beer, etc. I should add that usually we reserve the table in advance, the website is so amicable that booking a table is always easy and we don't have to go through the hazard of fitting for a table and moving chairs. For reserved tables the policy is 15 minutes wait or the table will be released to walk in customers. The second level is huge and you can book it for private functions, bridal showers, Christmas dinners, business meetings, etc. As every other place around Whyte Ave, it's easier if you park far away and walk to the bar, chances of finding parking are really low even when they have their own parking lot. We went here on May 5th around 7:30-8pm for dinner and drinks. It was my first time as I had just moved here that day and I will NEVER be back. We sat on the patio and ordered our food and drinks. Three of us got ours but my brother in laws beer never came. 45 MINUTES LATER the waitress comes back and tells him they don't have what he wants. He orders something else. Mind you, we also don't have our food. She comes back again maybe 20 minutes later - they don't have the SECOND type of beer he wanted. Also, still no food. When we EVENTUALLY got our food, it was 2 HOURS LATER. The only reason we didn't leave was because finally we were getting drinks. Every other table was getting their food! Some people got their drinks and food within 15 minutes of arriving. 2 HOURS. We ordered the simplest things! The nachos we got to split were so cold and like concrete. It was as if they had been sitting there for the whole 2 HOURS but our waitress just didn't bring them. My brother in laws POUTINE was ice cold. We complained and again, another 15 minutes later, they brought us okay nachos. We still had to pay which is absolute garbage. I don't even want to hear an excuse of "well it was busy" because it wasn't at all. If people who showed up an hour after us were getting their food, that's inexcusable. Never again will I waste my money at this place. I'm disgusted. read more
