We were never refunded $354 from MKD that we were charged for a service we didn't receive. The man they sent to do a laser measure of our countertop didn't measure anything. He looked at our counter, said he couldn't measure it because a brace was missing and left. He charged MKD for the call and they charged us as though we had cancelled the appointment, but we hadn't. We cancelled the countertop order and got $620 of our $975 back, but they kept the $354 that the laser contractor charged them. We have tried for months to talk to someone at MKD about getting our money back but just keep getting the runaround. We went with Woodsmiths for the same countertop we had ordered from MKD and we are very happy with their service, installers, and especially the laser measurer who had no problem measuring our countertop without the brace in place. I would not recommend MKD to anyone that wants to deal with a company that is honest, good communicaters, and won't rip you off. read more

I was sent to this company by Lowes. I would absolutely NEVER work with this company again. I ordered granite countertops. It took way longer then stated and this company does not care about their customers, There was no communication at all unless I called and it took about 8 phone calls to ever get a person on the phone. I was on hold forever, hung up on, and not once was a message ever returned. When I received my countertops they were cracked and chipped. And AGAIN, no one has called me about this. If I had not repeatedly called, I probably still would not have my broken up countertops. I will never shop at Lowes for remodeling because they send the jobs to this horrible company. The templater was fast and accurate, the installers were also, and countertops are beautiful. I'm very happy with the whole experience except that to get to the point of ordering took a long time to get an appointment with Home Depot. This should have been a lot faster and easier but apparently there's only one person who can do this and this creates a real roadblock. read more

They did not inform me when they came to measure my countertop that there would be a seam in it. They then called after 5 weeks to tell me right before they were going to cut the countertop. They installed one piece crooked, didn't cut a hole for my sprayer, didn't line up the bar for my dishwasher so that I could secure the dishwasher and they cut my sink cut out wrong and you can see the edges of the sink even though it's supposed to be under mount. . When I called them, they did send the installer out to fix some of the items and to look at the sink cut out. They are refusing to redo the sink piece and this has held up me finishing my project. I bought the countertop through Lowe's and was forced to use MKD for the install. I am so disappointed in this company. read more

Used them on our new build, and it was a disaster from the start. Paid in full up front, they measured wrong and tried to charge me for their mistake. Install date kept getting pushed and I was getting different answers from everyone. When they finally installed everything was to tight, we had many gouges in the drywall they removed trim in 3 areas. Nicked my cabinets. AND proceeded to not have any of my backsplash and a small countertop. Hey are trying to charge me an additional $650 for who knows what and won't finish or call me. Might as well hire anyone else. Per their response to this review I already had damage to the walls from when I removed the backsplash. Absolutely would NOT recommend. It took three times to get the kitchen doors installed because they ordered the wrong thing twice. They don't communicate. You have to essentially call them over and over to get anything done. The finished product is fine and everything but it wasn't worth the money and definitely not the TIME. Ordered replacement countertops for our kitchen; through Costco. They work with MDK Kitchen and Bath, based in Marshall, Michigan. The area representative, Mel, was amazing. He listened to our story, assessed our needs and wants, and gave us the best deal. The process went downhill after. The guy who did the measuring told us we needed to pay $550 more to complete the original estimated deal. The countertops came in pieces and were fitted after we had to buy new faucets. Gaps appeared, forcing us to pay more money to buy and install a backsplash. Better to look for better quality and service elsewhere. read more

My wife and I purchased a new countertop and sink from MKD in Battle Creek. During the takeout and measuring for the new countertop our Glass Top Jenn-air stove was broken. The install contractor and the laser tech claimed that it was broken before installation. My wife had before and after pictures showing that it was not broken before they did their work. The salesman stated that it was older and had weaken over the years of service. He stated that they were not responsible to turn it into their insurance company. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CRAP. We purchased a new counter top from MKD, which, of course took forever to get manufactured and installed. They also installed an undermount sink. 4 years later, the sink completely detached from the counter top and collapsed into the cabinet underneath. There was hardly any adhesive applied, and the hardware underneath was junk. I had to call them multiple times per day for three days to talk to anyone. No one would return messages. They would leave you on hold for 30 minutes. When I finally was able to talk to a customer service rep, they said their warranty was only good for 1 year. Is a sink only supposed to last 4 years? They offered to send a repair guy out at a cost of $520 just to COME. And this was to fix their own botched job. What's worse, they wanted the money for the repair job UP FRONT. Why would I pay for a job that hasn't been done yet to a company that has already done bad work? Our local handyman did the whole job for $200. Save yourself some time and frustration and use someone else. read more

They did a horrible job. When they came in they were mad because the stove and the refrigerator were still in place. I had spoke to them about the stove and the refrigerator, and was told with straight edge they didn't need to be moved. Then they ripped the old counter top out and didn't look for chips that was holding it down. They broke a towel rack that was under the sink area, they broke a shelf in one of the cabinets and now a door won't shut, they also took wood off a door & not to mention the mess they left under the sink, drawers, & shelves. I am a recent widow in my mid-70's who just moved to the area. I wanted new kitchen cabinets/countertops but didn't know of anyone. I filled out a form thru Angi's list. I had a forewarning that this wasn't going to go well when the male making my appointment over the phone asked "Will your husband be there?". I answered "If you were in front of me I would punch you." The time arrives & the salesman arrives. No business card is given, nor does he introduce himself. I asked for ID & he did show me his DL. The first thing he says as he looks around is "This should be around $24,000." I don't say anything. The exchange continues; I make my choices; he measures. As he is figuring out the quote, I say " I will be getting other bids." He says "Well, if you don't sign today, I can't give you all these discounts " I say "Pardon me?". He says that these discounts are only good for today. I say "you must think I am a fool to agree to the first bid I get." He says "What, you think you'll find something cheaper?" At that he scribbles a number on a scrap of paper, packs up his things & leaves. The number he wrote was $31,774.91 No Tax. I got 3 more bids for comparable work. They got the measurements right, but when it came to installation, it was so bad to the point where they had to come out a second time just to fix their stupid mistakes! I have never seen a picture where the Backsplash looks hobbled together like this. They didn't call me to tell me it was what it is. They sent an email saying my template was complete. read more

I was not told the counter would be 1/4" lower then the original, now I have a 1/2" gap from the back splash to the counter to contend with. I have no idea why it could not be installed to the original height, and I don't mean with shims! I was told to fill it with caulk. Besides this idea being ludicrous, I still have no idea how they feel the job was completed. The faucet hole was not placed where I asked it to be. I wanted it placed a 1/2" back so standard silicone splash guard didn't overhang by as much as it does, and the back was closer to the back splash. BTW... We were referred to MKD through Home Depot after purchasing countertops there. If Home Depot assigns MKD to you, insist on another fabricator. Our backsplash installation looks horrible, and MKD refused to stand by their work. Project took nearly a year to resolve. After having paid in full for a master bathroom refacing, two "finished" uppers, and a quartz countertop, it took almost 1 full year to get the job improperly and incompletely finished. The countertop was installed with a slant so water pools and runs down the front of the vanity, the vanity mirror is cracked at the backsplash, one of the uppers was hand painted rather than factory painted as paid for, then installed improperly with an exposed screw in the middle of an open shelf. then the other upper was "reordered" 4 times over 10 months, to never be ordered in the correct size or "finished" as paid for. After 11 months, I requested a refund for the two cabinets (one hand painted & installed wrong & the other never installed because they never ordered it the right size last time they delivered it the doors of the cabinet were several inches too big!). They ruined my existing upper because the installer still had wet paint on his hands & got it on my existing upper cabinet. No one ever returns phone calls. They intentionally do not itemize bills so you don't know the price of any specific line item. Their managers also do not return calls or emails. At the end of all of this, they reimbursed 1 upper, left me with a cracked mirror, a unleveled countertop, a damaged hand painted cabinet, and a ruined existing cabinet that I'll now have to pay to replace. Sadly, this company gladly takes your money and doesn't concern themselves with the actual job. I cannot recommend MKD and caution anyone who considers using them. read more

I strongly advise you to run from this company. They are quick to have a sales person come out to your home and talk a good game in order to get your business. After that you wait up to six weeks for the materials to arrive, and it is was down hill after that. You are scheduled an appointment for an install, in my case it was suppose to take 6 days total with counter tops being installed first. On day one, no one showed up at the 4 hour window given, this shouold have immediately been a red flag. I called the company to see if anyone was coming out, two men showed up about 1 1/2 hours later without anyone notifiying me that they were coming. Once in my home they threw away faucets that were suppose to be re-attached and turned on my sprinkler system which had been blown out for the season. Which we had to have blown out a second time. They also turned off the water supply in the whole house without explanation, it was off for almost 24 hours, the pilot in the hot water tank was also out and when I called into the company they had the nerve to tell me to ask a neighbor to light it for me. The nerve of the when their people were the cause of it being out. The plummer that came out the next day was great and the individal that did the refacing, however, the individuals that did the backsplash did a horrible job with cutting out for the plugs and light switches, they were cut out incorrectly and are still are not working. There is calking missing out of one section of the backsplash My kitchen has been down for Thanksgiving and now for Christmas. I have made numerous calls into the company for call backs from the prjoject manager assigned to me, what a joke. These calls and messages have went unanswered. I had my kitchen, remodeled everything went perfect until the countertop installation. They did not cut it long enough to reach the end of the run a.k.a. a gap between the the edge of the countertop. And I have been getting the runaround on taking care of this for the last three weeks. The installers were great, but the fabrication was not correct. For somebody who's been in business for 75 years and uses a laser level I really don't understand how it could've been short a half an inch. I received a quote for cabinet refacing. Called to ensure terms were 50% down and full payment when the job was done. 30 min before my appointment to sign the contract and schedule the job, was called and was told they needed 100% down. I already had the 50% cashiers check in hand ready to go. I asked if I could do 50% now and put the other 50% in escrow, was told no. Do not use this company!! This is their way to scam you! I bought a counter top through Home Depot.... First mistake right there so I have them come measure they call give me an install date. The installers come take out the counter top install new one with sink. Me being nice I'm chatting with them they say if you lived in west Bloomfield you would have better service... I was like ok is this a joke? The installers the sink leave tons of caulk around the sink then tell me to clean it up when it dried... um yep not my job. I have marks on my countertop also. They leave call Home Depot talk to Chris I send pictures which I will include and he called MKD to come out.... They send the same installers back after they come into my home and are making comments as if I had more money my service would be better. Chris from Home Depot is here he says I'll stay and tell them to leave... ok cool... MKD sends another person out he comes in oblivious to what needed to be done since there is no communication. He's super nice I tell him my sink is not centered and marks on my countertop. He now has to drop the sink which took him almost 3 hours just to get it down with all the caulk they used. Super nice guy he was willing to help us. Fast fwd.... Marks are back my peninsula is falling down the first installers did not secure it. Mind you the counter top was 4000,00 dollars and there is particle board underneath it it's not solid. So it's really thin. I call Chris at Home Depot he says he will reach out and send someone to look at it... oh Aaron comes out looks at it says yeah I can see it's not secure and the material they used must be bad if I was them would replace it.... Aaron says you'll get a phone call within a day or two.... Guess what nothing.... I call Chris he comes up with since it's Dec 1st people are off for the holidays.... Wow I wish I was off for a month! Then I call customer care guess who calls Chris says they will be out Jan 16th... ok I have to call Chris the night before asking for a time since he decided I didn't need to know that.... He said between 11-3. I get a text from the same installers from the first time!!!!! Are you serious you think I want them back in my home after rude comments... I call Chris right away he doesn't answer until my 3rd call now I'm DONE. I let him have it asking what would make him think it's ok to send these guys again after the issues and you personally send them away.. they text me with were on our way to install your countertop, I text back no I already have one installed then say oh sorry to buff it out.... I'm ready to loose my mind, I let them come anyways then they are in here saying we could be in Ann Arbor at bigger jobs right now.... Ok leave then .... Then say we won't have you sign that we were here cause we're not sure why your countertop looks like this. They walk out. I left a google review the "owner" says give us a call so we can get this resolved.... Ok I call speak with Jenny tell her about everything no notes that the installers were so rude making comments to us, nothing else. Chris from Home Depot's hates me at this point I don't care I have used my money to get a counter top I can even sit at brocade we wouldn't want it to break since it's so thin... Jenny says give her until the end of the week ok... I give her a week and a half and call her back like what's going on... oh we reached out the Chris at Home Depot and another person from here and there's nothing to note!!! Really this has been going on for months now! They will drag it out so you're not under warranty and tell you to screw off im taking it as I sit here for months and have a paper trail of all my phone calls and texts... Tl;dr AVOID MKD AND HOME DEPOT COUNTER INSTALLATION/CUSTOM ORDERS AT ALL COSTS! YOU WILL THANK ME LATER. LEARN FROM MY NIGHTMARE! Full review is over 2300 words. Can't post it all here but feel free to reach out. Where do I even begin? Here's a long story long: on 11/21/22 I paid Home Depot on Alexis in Toledo $1,073 for a "custom made" laminate countertop due to my specs exceeding their in-store inventory of 7-10ft. I needed 12 ft their DIY counters stop at 10.5 feet. I asked if I could get the counter made but install it myself, HD said "no, you have to use our contractors and install is included in the price." Reluctantly, I agreed because I had already been without counters since September 2022 due to a kitchen remodel gone awry. On 11/22/22 MKD (Michigan Kitchen Distributors) the company HD uses for their counter installs in Ohio and Michigan sent out an employee named Tom Berger. Tom came to my house and measured my counters with a tape measure. No big deal, right? (Remember this part...) After measuring, Tom stated that I would have to pay some upcharges for extra material and a few specs that needed to be covered for a seamless install. I figured he was the pro, so I didn't question it. Tom leaves and later that evening at 1810 I get the following text "Hey J, This is Tom the countertop guy. I didn't write down a measurement. Can you get that for me. Behind the sink from the left wall to right wall. Corner to Corner?" I didn't reply. Why? Because not only did I see Tom write down the measurements, I'm also PAYING for a professional service which means I should be getting a professional service rendered. Why would I measure? Also, what if I'm wrong? It wasn't a risk I was willing to take. The next day 11-23-22 at 0815 I got the same text from Tom. Annoyed, I didn't respond. I figured "Ah, they'll come back and get the measurements. They have to, right?" Wrong. On 12-5-22 I called Home Depot to explain the situation and that I didn't feel comfortable sending the measurement because I didn't want them to be wrong. HD told me "It's just one measurement, that's all he needs." Irritated, I measured, corner to corner, 3 times JUST TO BE SURE. Even took a picture of the measurement for reference in case it was wrong. On 12/7/22 MKD sent me an email "status notification" that stated "12.5 store called me, said customer has not gotten resched. I emailed Tom-RRS" Notes: Need to return to get missing dimensions. 12/6 Contacted Melissa- she will follow up with Tom. Well, Tom never came back out to measure so on 12/7/22 at 1322 I sent Tom the needed measurements with a picture of the tape measure placed in the exact area he needed. It measured 146 7/8. Fast Forward to 1-12-2023. The counters are FINALLY made and ready to be installed! I take 4 hours off of work for the MKD installers to come install my long awaited counters. Before work I told my coworker "I guarantee this does not go as planned." Well, I absolutely ATE my words. We meet, introduce ourselves and then they get straight to work. Do you think the installation went according to plan? NOPE. They brought the counter in and were absolutely dumbfounded as to how they were going to get it installed. Why? Oh, because it was not only TOO LONG, but also the edges weren't long enough and sat directly on the cabinet top edges...It looked ridiculous. In addition, remember when I was charged for extra materials by Tom? I paid $392 to HD on 12/14/22 for the added costs. Well, the installers said that I never should have been charged because "Tom's measurements are completely wrong. We don't even know HOW he came up with this." They asked me how the measurements were taken and I explained that Tom had used a tape measure. They both looked very surprised and said "That's not how we are supposed to measure here..." I asked how they usually do measurements and they said it is standard practice to use a Laser Measure for the most precise measurements...Makes Sense! Oh, and better yet? Tom had either quit or been fired a few days prior to them coming out. I guess I'm not the only one he screwed in his last few months at MKD. The countertop that was made was nowhere near the right size for my kitchen. (See pics posted, it's the one propped against the wall.) The installers contemplated for a bit on how to make it work but there was no way of making anything work without completely redoing the counters. They made some calls back and forth to their boss and ultimately decided that it would be best to REMAKE THEM. They cut me a slab so I could have a sink and then went on their way. While I was grateful for that, there are a few issues I would like to bring up. When removing the sink for the counter, they had spilled my soap dispenser ALL over in the bottom of my cabinet. That was a mess. It was also found after they left, they had pocketed my dishwasher hose clamp, albeit accidentally I'm sure. However, this was not a fun discovery when I turned on my dish read more

Removed the old laminate countertop and installed new granite (CRACKED). I have updated my original posting. I didn't notice the crack the first day but did notice it the next day. I have sent pics to MKD. I have also been in contact with them several times now. The installer said it's a fisher. I believe it's a crack. I have requested them to repair it. On 11/19/24 MKD sent a repair person out (Matt) He did confirm it's a crack Matt the repair person stated that there was filler resin in the crack. Matt also stated that sometimes during fabrication a crack may occur, and the fabricators fill it with resin / glue. Matt said he wasn't there when it was fabricated so he can't say for sure what may have happened. Matt also stated that it was glued secured to the sink very well and it shouldn't separate any more. Matt didn't want to try and repair it because it may separate more if he was to work on it. I informed him that I didn't pay for a cracked countertop to be installed. I have contacted MKD numerous times now and they say it's a fissure natural occurring in granite. MKD now sends my calls to voice mail and my cracked countertop is being ignored by mgt at MKD. This is defiantly a crack in my countertop. I have done some internet searches on MKD. And I have found others in the same situation new cracked countertops being installed and pics were included. MKD used the same line to them also, (its a fissure natural occurring in granite) this is the line they use as an excuse. When a company doesn't stand behind its own work why would anyone do business with them. MKD was given the opportunity to correct this and they haven't. We were suggested to work with The Kitchen Shop + MKD for our kitchen and bath cabinets and countertops by our contractor--would never choose to work with them again. Countertop and backsplash install was a huge headache. They delivered a portion of our countertop but the backsplash portion was never sent to production. Once installed, the quality was less than satisfactory. They had promised a single slab solid-surface backsplash, but it arrived in two pieces, joined together with a terrible and obvious seam. The top of the slab had about 1/2" gap under the cabinets and there was also damage to the cabinets upon install (which they never acknowledged). They sent someone out to repair the seam with the promise of a credit, but the seam still looks less than ideal and I had to call multiple people, multiple times over the course of TWO MONTHS to track down the credit they had promised. Not once was an apology offered. Not once did they acknowledge that they promised something they couldn't actually have delivered. Altogether a terrible customer service experience. read more

I was scheduled to be the first customer and was the last one the came in at 1030 pm and they installed half of the job they left a mess and I had to clean up then they said I had to reschedule the rest wich turned out to be even worse the had to cut the stone 3 times cause they definitely don't know how to take a measure in the process of installing the counter top they broke the door to my dishwasher and on top of that the had to polish the stones and left a mess had to repaint the kitchen and mop the floors the process took 3 agonizing months now the said that the dishwasher was faulty this company and its contractors are not professional and as far a responsible or reliable they fall short how they are in business I don't understand read more

We hired this company to do all new countertops in our kitchen. The installers were pleasant, the office people and everyone we talked to about issues with the material were not. They cracked one of the pieces in half, filled it, didn't mention a word of it, and sent it to be installed anyway, hoping we would not notice. The crack that is completely through the slab is directly in front of the sink and through the back side as well, the absolute weakest part of the whole countertop. We have tried to work it out with them, but their excuse is that it's "characteristic" of the stone. Cracking a slab in half during cutting, and filling it with solid black epoxy when the stone doesn't have ANY solid black areas, and then trying to sneak it by your client so they don't notice is NOT a characteristic of the stone. So very disappointed in this company. We asked for them to either replace that one section of stone or a partial refund for the faulty section and they refuse to do anything to remedy it. read more

After multiple calls to various representatives we were able to get a representative to our home for final measurements. There was no follow up and no further communication for over two weeks. when we finally reached a representative we were informed that our measurements were never submitted and we would have to wait an additional 5 weeks for possible installation of the countertops. Mind you, we started and paid our Deposit in late November of 2023 and we are now into the second week of January 2024. Run! Run far away from MKD! read more

MKD do not stand behind anything they do. They delivered a slab that is cracked all the way down the middle from the from of the sink to the back and it is the narrowest and weakest part of the top. They should have notified me about this before installation, but they just hoped I wouldn't notice. Terrible customer service, will not do anything to fix it. read more

Please do not ever use this company for anything. I was lied to a couple of times as far as the installation day. I had to cancel appointments etc and put my life in turmoil rescheduling. The sink was coming with the job and was taken to the place to make sure they had it to install. Well the day of the install they called and wanted to know if I had the sink. I told them no that they've had it for at least two weeks. "Well we can not find it". Luckily the Kitchen Shop called them to inform them they had it and it WAS found. I was told a plumber would disconnect the the sink for us well it wasn't a plumber it was just the countertop installer. We had already disconnected everything for the third time. I felt they at least owed us to put it the new faucet (even if they didn't connect it) but they refused. I could go on but suffice it to say STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! read more

Horrible kitchen counter tops installation! Crooked, messy, multiple delays and unwilling to make it right! They tried to fix a huge, uneven gap by shoveling caulk into to it and left a horrible mess! I've been dealing with them for months trying to get them to fix the counter tops & kept getting pushed off. When I called again this week to check when someone would be coming out to talk to me, I was told the redo wasn't approved and nobody was available to come out for another month! read more

Initial contact and sales were very friendly and helpful. But that's where it stopped. Once they have your deposit...it was a nightmare for us. After they installed our countertop I had many complaints, I reached out to get help correcting issues. They sent a repair tech to come over and check out the issues and he assured me that they would be calling me after to discuss a possible credit because among the other little issues we had. They drilled my faucet hole too close to my sink and we couldn't install it properly. Then once we finally got it in, we turned it on and it ran right over the front edge of the sink getting water all over the floor because it was still too close to the front edge of the sink. I had to then go buy a NEW faucet after they installed the countertop because even though I had the already purchased faucet onsite for install like they asked, I still got the holes were not drilled where the template told them to drill. The repair tech said he would have been very upset about this too. Then he assured me I would be receiving a follow up call after he left to discuss said credit and my satisfaction. I never received a call and in fact I have reached out a few times to my "project manager" Geraye and received no contact back. It is now end of Jan. and I had install come in September. other complaints: they cut my drywall to install the countertop, BUT I had a finished melamine panel that they also cut into thinking it was drywall, when they did this they damaged a costly melamine panel that should have never been cut into, their solution was to caulk it and fill in their wavy cut line that looks all hacked up... it looks like garbage. Also becasue they cut into the drywall, they misaligned my countertop with my fillers and cabinets by 1/4" and I had a filler that didn't align with my countertop next to my stove making my stove hole too small for the oven, their solution was to cut and grind my countertop to match the filler and give more room for my stove. This was a solution we delt with but now it looks like that part of the countertop is slightly out of square when you look at it. I am just so disappointed with the over $4000 countertop we paid for. I would recommend finding a different place to install countertop. read more

Have tried to be here for my counters to be installed three times over the last three months. The first two times in May and then June at least they called although day of to cancel. Now on my third appointment in August and they just didn't show up. No call no nothing. They are the vendor for Home Depot if you buy kitchen countertops. Highly suggest you avoid this company. read more

This company is so difficult to deal with I have tried to be understanding. Multiple attempts to contact them phones are only on from 9 to 4, and if you do have time to wait in the call line up. You get we will have someone call you. Of course that does not happen. I ordered counter tops in early March and paid for them at Home Depot. Original install date was canceled which cost me a service call from a plumber and the waste of a day off. A part of the counter has been installed but now I can not get the rest finished because they forgot part if it at the first install. Then it took another 3 weeks to schedule the next install. When they finally came out it was a foot and half short. Now they won't answer or return my calls. read more

We love our granite counters. Thank you so much. We experience great communication during the pandemic and the installers were great. They answered all our questions and were very informative. We choose gray wave and it looks amazing. We didn't go to the store to look at the slabs and just went with our gut on what we liked from the samples. So happy we did. Also went with the enhanced seam for an area that would be easily seen and it looks AWESOME!! Totally worth the extra cost. I also appreciate the gentleman that came out to take measurements. He recommended the Shark nose edge and I LOVE it. So glad he told us about it because I had never heard about it before. Everyone that comes over comments on it and how good it looks. read more
