I caution myself, "Pfft, another Indian restaurant in Sydney. Prepare to be disappointed!" before…read moreentering, because they can't possibly compare to the authentic Indian restuarants in India, right? ...Wrong! They get all the little cultural idiosyncrasies of North Indian restaurants completely right! From the free paapads (or pappadums, as they're called in South India) on the tables (which they reload every time you finish them), to the fennel breath-fresheners they bring out after your meal! It's just a beautiful restaurant, with a really professional, sophisticated ambience. From the stark-white of the table-trimmings, to the soft glow of the candles. The service is excellent. The wait staff are so attentive! They pull your chairs out for you, they spread the napkins in your lap, they refill your glass every time it's less than half-full, and they make you feel well looked-after. They look over every now and then too, just in case you need anything, so you're never left waiting if there's a problem. And all this, for a fairly reasonable price! My date and I ordered two main dishes, and three garlic naans, for under $50. A hefty meal, at a lovely establishment, for under $25? Excellent! I had a hard time carrying myself and my full-to-bursting stomach out of there, so much did I eat! Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, I must warn you about the spiciness. I ordered the Butter Chicken, and my date ordered the Lagan Ki Boti (baby goat).. and we ended up having to swap, because his dish was too spicy for him. Being Indian, I barely registered the spiciness, but it's probably worth mentioning, so that your sensitive palates aren't unduly distressed. If you're deathly afraid of spice, go for the Butter Chicken. My date was very happy with it, and he has a pansy Irish palate. You can't go wrong there!

They try really hard and make an effort to remember your name if you start a conversation. Curries are meat & sauce only. Garlic and cheese naan are lightly greased so you don't feel nasty, and have chunks of garlic on it. Yum! Garlic feeling does linger well after your meal. For a garlic fiend, that's the best. Light, crisp, and flavourful Indian chips automatically come with your meal instead of bread. No dips, but you don't need them. Sun room in the back is nice and light. 4 stars because they come off as a little too salesy and menu doesn't tell you that every dish automatically comes medium spicy. You have to specially request mild if you are sensitive to spice.

Not the best experience for my first and definitely my only dealings with this place…read more I live outside Australia and last month I wanted to purchase a meal/restaurant voucher as a present for my Sis-In-Law for her birthday which was coming up one week from that date. Couldn't locate any restaurant voucher purchase options on the website so phoned the restaurant 3 times with no reply. Then I messaged a mobile Whatsapp number for the owner/manager to see what was possible to purchase. (note for later) the number had a profile photo of who i assume is the owner/manager included - the message went to 2 ticks so it was received. No reply to date. On a return to the website I found a 'Date dining' meal option for AuD 150 on the website. I thought this might do the trick and when I selected this I was taken to the payment page. I gave my SIL's address as I expected this to be what would be used when she went to the restaurant. After payment, that was that. No further request for instructions on how to redeem. No meal options. No email notification about the meal/voucher. No contact made about anything related to the purchase. AuD 150 taken from my credit card. A few days later my SIL arrived back to her house from her holidays with her daughter to find a rotten and moldy Indian meal and bottle of cheap red wine (she doesn't drink alcohol) in a bag sitting on her doorstep. Once we finally understood what was after happening I tried to call the restaurant phone again with no answer. My SIL went to the restaurant to enquire about what was after happening and she was met with complete and utter indifference from reception. They reception said they'd look into it and do something for her. Nothing done to this day. Then the pinnacle of the entire interaction was when I went back to Whatsapp to message and try to call I found the profile photo removed and my messages were blocked. That to me is not a good sign of a business operations ethics when you take a customers money and refuse to interact with them afterwards. No idea if the food is good or not but the management need to take a look in the mirror. Thanks for ruining my birthday present to my sister-in-law.

The place looks great inside and their menu is quite varied. I loved the aloo tiki and the samosa was good. The palak paneer was fabulous as was the Lamb Methi. Great flavours and good size portions. Loved the food overall. Could have used a bit more heat but besides that I couldn't fault the food. Prices are a bit on the higher side here but if they keep serving great food then it won't matter. The inner west is a bit thin on choices for good Indian food and I am glad I finally tried this place. Will be back for sure.

The curries have a surprising variety of flavours, and some are very hot, so be warned if that's not your thing. I came here for lunch the other day, and it was so cheap! $8 for a lamb thali -- which is a huge meal (it's basically a tasting plate - lots of little curries, chutney, & rice, and something sweet). I reckon Little Haveli have slightly better Thalis, but you certainly get value for money.

There are over 20 types of dosas to choose from with different fillings, and most are under $10. I chose the mushroom and cheese one and it was very tasty and something different. -The curries are the undisputable champions of the Indian menu. - I adore the Malaysian Milk Hoppers; bowl-shaped thin pancakes made from fermented rice flour, with a sweet coconut centre. -There is air conditioning inside the restaurant, which is great because it can get really hot with all those piquant flavours! -The staff can be hasty and the service slow at times but I assure you-the food is worth the wait!

But Bombay Grill is so much more. The Lassi's in the fridge are absolutely delicious, plain, mango and rose, and are a very enjoyable snack indeed. But the piece de resistance as it were; the reason I keep going back; the number one draw card for me, of Bombay Grill? It's the Chicken Tika Roll or 'Indian Kebab' as they've called it, a marketing ploy to attract the drunken crowd who refuse to sully their inebriated palate with anything other than a kebab after a night out. And this Indian Kebab is amazing! Drunk or sober. We start with a piece of Naan, spread some sauce from the Butter Chicken across it, then if you like a bit of garlic sauce, a bit of garlic sauce. Next, an Aloo Choop; a mildly spicy potato based snack is crushed into the Naan and finally a piece of succulent Chicken Tika is placed into the middle. The Naan is wrapped up and the Indian Kebab is ready for consumption. Another great thing about this Indian treat is it's only $6! For a while it wasn't even on the menu and you had to know you wanted it and ask for it especially, but through word of mouth the Indian Kebab at the Bombay Grill has become a hit.
