Ok
Have been walking past this place for a while... didn't go in because it never look that busy and the area I lived in before had some amazing Indian places (so my standards are a little high).
Also, Surjits is just a block or so away and they are very good... a little on the pricier side of things but still very good.
Thought I'd take a chance and went in for dinner.
There were 2 people scoffing and wiping their plates clean with naan when I walked in so THAT looked promising.
Started chatting with the owner/chef Raj and found out he was from Nth India near Nepal.
Now, as a lover of Indian food I knew that meant his traditional food style would be more 'pepper-spicy' than outright chilli and I couldn't wait to try the goat.
I find it useful to understand what area the chef comes from with Indian food. It is a big country with many different styles. The southern Indian style is the chilli coconut thing which I love too... but I want traditional stuff based on the chefs history.
I ordered a mixed Tandoor Entree and the goat curry, fresh naan and papadums with raita.
Oh yeah, did I mention they have a Tandoor...!!! Like... A real one!!!
It's BYO so red wine was sorted from our side of the fence.
Honestly, if you like Nth Indian style food then you really need to try this place.
It is a small kitchen and minimal staff but the food was great, really!
Don't Uber deliver the stuff. Grab a bottle of wine, head in there and have a chat to Raj and get him to recommend something. EVERYTHING we had was excellent. There were one or two burnt bits but that just means it came out of a proper tandoor oven and even the burnt crispy bits were nice!
The price is extremely reasonable.
I almost want to give it a bad review so I can just keep it a quiet local place that is under the radar.
Actually... yeah, screw it, don't go.
But it the best reasonable priced Indian food I have had in Sydney in a long time. read more
