Great choice for Indian food in Darling Harbor. Love the patio dining overlooking the Darling Harbor. So relaxing to watch the boats sailing along the waterfront. So lucky to snag a table without a reservation on a Monday night in Sydney. Started with a nice gift from the chef. The Crispy Papadums, thin wafers made from urad flour, served with four sides were a great way to start dinner. Manjits Chakara includes four sides-Raita, Mint Sauce, Mango Chutney and spicy Mixed Pickles. The Amritsari Market fish fillets marinated with garlic, ginger, red chilli, tamarind, and coriander coated in chickpea batter and deep fried until crispy were so unique. Manjits 1950s Butter Chicken is a classic specialty. This chicken delicacy has half cooked the Tandoori way, while the other half is finished the curry way. The creamy tomato flavoured curry with a touch of pepper is so delicious. Korma 'Zaffar Shahi' Lamb is a king's favorite known throughout India according to our waitress. The bowl is served full of highly flavored, creamy textured, lamb curry, topped with macadamia nuts. Get this one! The Himalayan Malai Kofta Mixed vegetable dumplings, deep fried & served soaked in a rich and aromatic tomato and cashew nut curry and finished with a cordon of cream were a bit spicy and delicious. Add a bowl of Kashmiri Pulao. Fluffy saffron rice with nuts and fruits. Perfect to pair with the curries. Ordered a couple of naans. The Naan Kashmiri was stuffed with dried fruit and nuts. The Naan Cheese & Garlic is stuffed with cheese and garlic. So good. Easy to see how Manjits is celebrating 40 years of serving Indian delicacies in Sydney. Nice to talk to the owner and his mom. I visited with my sister and made a reservation a day before because the place gets busy. We had ordered Dal, naan, and grilled panner. The taste of the dal was fresh and amazing. I also liked the grilled panner because the seasoning and plating was expressive. I wish they gave more panner than 4 pieces. The customer service was a little off even though they were not busy. We were not being attended often enough to get additional items ordered or to close out the bill. We were seated within 5-10minutes of our arrival. The location is on the Darling harbor waterfront which has a view of the city. The variety of seating options and the spacing of the tables is perfect. I would visit this place again because I would say the atmosphere is very classy and chic. If booking dinner reservation here in advance, you need to be aware that the restaurant may cancel it at any time if they receive a larger booking and you may only realise it is cancelled when you show up on the day. Hence, if you are specifically coming into the city for dinner or are not flexible with dates, would NOT recommend making a reservation here. Re our experience, we booked a table two months in advance. The day prior to our booking, we were sent a repeat confirmation email confirming our booking. When we arrived on the night, we were informed that a larger booking had been made and so our table had to be cancelled. The staff indicated they had given us a missed call the night prior, but never tried to reach us again or send any email/message to communicate the cancellation. This was very disappointing considering we were travellers who had come to Sydney for a short trip and had specifically arranged our itinerary around the dinner. Would definitely advise against booking a reservation here as your long-standing booking may be cancelled on the day. read more

It was totally unplanned we walked into Manjit's fine dining for dinner. We have read the reviews that the place gets busy easily and need booking, however they were kind enough to accomodate us. Service was great, and everything we have order was good except the chicken tikka masala , it was bland. We enjoyed the starters and the bamboo cooked biryani. read more

Would not recommend Weird service - like no one is serving you or 3 people are The staff don't seem like they have had training I ordered chicken tikka masala but got served a different dish - when queried with the manager she said they had a different chef covering and it had been incorrect The restaurant is huge and the tables near the ladies toilets are just unmade up and being used for storage In ladies loo the soap dispenser was broken and one toilet out of order The manager/ hostess wasn't really supervising what was going on in the actual restaurant (she just sat people and took phonecalls) The manager was accommodating once we shared the feedback at least Overall the restaurant feels tired and not upscale read more

Manjits has since branched out to include a number of locations including Balmain, Lime Street Wharf Darling Harbour and further south to Wollongong, and one of its northern suburbs, Corrimal. We visited Majits Lime Street Wharf and were informed that this location is known for its innovative menu, building on traditional classics to create modern masterpieces.Manjits Lime Street wharf, as the name suggests is a waterfront restaurant with a cool outlook over the vessels on display at the Maritime Museum. This restaurant is large with classic white linen set tables and private dining spaces enclosed by curtains. It is a fully licensed venue which is great for a seaside beverage, as well as a meal.The entrees at Manjits were all exceptional. The masala prawn pakora bites, crispy fried in chickpea batter and spiced with dried chili and curry leaves were incredibly moreish. The Bharrah lamb kebab was perfectly cooked and spectacularly flavoursome, these cutlets disappeared very quickly off the plate. All of the meat dishes were done very well; the fish malai and the baniare chicken both vibrantly colourful in appearance and taste. At Manjits Lime Street Wharf, innovation is on display with a twist on the street classic - the gol gol gappa, a crispy pastry shell, filled with spiced chickpea and potato and pomegranate. Pour in the tamarind sauce and this will certainly further target the taste buds. This was also the case with the amazingly tasty crab uttapam (rice lentil pancake). The pancakes topped with sweet blue swimmer crab meat, cooked with green chilli, corriander, split peas and topped with orange beads of fish roe.It is a must to order Naan bread when enjoying Indian cusine. OMFG Manjits produced the biggest NAAN we have ever seen. Even better, it was a combination of plain and garlic. This was perfect to accompany the mains and soak up the delicious curry sauce. We love the bold flavours that are associated with Indian cooking, in particular the curries. The Kochin Balmain Bug Curry, a highlight not to be missed. This dish is a Southern Indian curry having a bit of heat, but it combines well with the coconut milk and seafood sweetness of the balmain bugs and the meat will pretty much melt in your mouth. The next dish was a bit of a suprise it looked like a pot pie, but when the pastry top was removed it revealed the Dum Ki Biryani. A traditional fragrant spiced rice dish with sweet sultanas to counter the spice, dig to the bottom of the dish and you will find tender cuncks of nicely spiced chicken to gorge on.Full as a goog, relax, enjoy the view and peruse the dessert menu. The food is hearty and the potions generous, you will need to summon your dessert stomach. But it will be highly worth it, for a dig at the mango and pistachio kulfi. Served in a cone shape this frozen yogurt dessert was great to cool down on, after a spicy meal. For something a little different, try the rasmalai, a traditional dessert consisting of condensed milk dumplings soaked in saffron and cardamon milk and topped with a pistachio crumb. This dessert has a subtle sweetness and the saffron and cardamon hit the sense of smell with their exotic aromas.Manjits is a restaurant that ticks all of the boxes, great service, location, views and most importantly great food. Such gracious hosts, this family run restaurant, has been well established for over 30 years. There's a guy that comes out and announces each dish to you when it arrives at the table. Yep, this place is fancy pants. Proper Indian fine dining, which Sydney doesn't have a lot of. This ain't your anglicised Butter Chicken Indian here, oh no. This is an offshoot of the original Manjit's at Balmain, and man, do they do things right. The signature dish comes on a plate covered in a big glass tower that's all smoky with mystery, and it's revealed to be Baingan Takatak: smoke-roasted baby eggplant mashed with onion, tomato and chilli prepared on the traditional "tawa" hotplate. And yeah, it's as good as it sounds. In fact, all the dishes were. Shot out to my homeboy, the goat curry. You know where it's at. Oh,m and the GIANT garlic naan they brought to the table. This is the worst food I had in Sydney. I ordered eggplant Takatak and they gave me some other dish. All meat dishes are made in the same gravy with different names. Last night my partner took me out for dinner to Manjits at the Wharf, a fancy indian restaurant, overlooking Darling Harbour. He had made the reservation for us. On arrival at the restaurant we were greeted with a friendly: "Welcome Sir" and escorted to a lovely table by the window overlooking the water. My partner was then asked whether he would like his backpack and umbrella taken away from the table and stored somewhere else, while I was not asked whether I would like my rain jacket also taken away. Instead I found a spot for it on the back of my chair. This welcome didn't sit right with me, but I thought, ok, lets give this a chance. Unfortunately things didn't get any better all night. When food was served, it was placed in front of my partner first and the lovely asymmetrical bowls in which some of the dishes were presented, were positioned on the table so my partner could see what was being served in them, while I did not. And even on leaving the restaurant, we were fair welled with a friendly: "Goodbye, Sir." The waiters were very attentive and lovely in general, I just wish they had been just as attentive to me as they were to my partner, especially since we were there to celebrate me and my achievement. Terribly service, it's almost like they want to trick you into upselling more. Our server didn't even give us the option of tap water and then charged us for water by the glass. She insisted us on trying the popodums and dips while we wait for the rest of the party, making it seem complimentary which it wasn't. Food was just average. We had the Malai kofta and butter chicken. Both gravy's were exactly the same with just the difference of kofta and chicken. Food is great and fresh- but service is poor. Hard to know who is your prime server. Took forever to get my order and then when I did - it was not complete. Complained to three different people and never got my order correct. When I spoke to the owner - he tried (not successfully) to bring in his management team to listen to my feed back. Unless you are patient with poor service- move on. You will fins good Indian elsewhere in Sydney. read more

This is the best Indian food that I have eaten. The restaurant states that it cooks food according to traditional Indian recipes. The curry spices were subtle and not overwhelming. We had the cheese naan, the lamb kabobs, buttered chicken, and tandoori shrimp. Each was superb. And the price was reasonable. read more

We were visiting Sydney for 4 days and We had dinner at Manjit's for twice. I don't have words to express how good the food was and drinks. Both days we spent at least 3 to 4 hours, till they close. Mr. Manjit Gujral and his son Varun (THE GREAT CHIEF) both were so great to us. We tried almost everything on the menu. If I go back Sydney Manjit's will be my first stop again. read more

I took my family for dinner on 11th June as I had heard a lot about this restaurant, But it was a horrible experience. I had 8 pm booking but I did not get any waiter to come and take my order till 8.30. I had to wait for another 45 minutes for entrees to be served and they were cold. But the worse thing was our mains were not served until 10pm and the whole restaurant staff was totally confused and very unprofessional. Inspite of reminding the wait staff, the manager and even complaining to the kitchen directly there was no follow up. At 10 pm we had to get up without eating and walk out. But we did pay for the entrees and spoke to the manager who's response was that it was a day today. Highly unprofessional. read more
