I love this nail salon. My family has been coming here for a while and the customer service is great, the communication is awesome, and the overall treatment is what makes the salon so great. Ricky never fails to satisfy me with my nails and always does an amazing job. Even if they're busy, I still get treated fairly and their work is still very precise. Needed my nails done badly, when i called a very polite gentleman answered and assured that i was able to make my appointment for 10 minutes while it was 630 closing at 8 on New Years Day. When i arrived at id say a minute after the 10 minutes were up i was sat down and they were helping me out right away. Two ladies patiently helped me find my nail color and honestly i cant say i wouldve wanted anything better. She perfected my design and didnt rush while getting done quickly. Well my experience at MJ nail salon in Berwyn is the most horrible place for nails I have experienced ever.. I visited the salon a long time ago. I was looking for a new nail place and when I walked in and it seemed fine I actually got it taken care of pretty much right away I think I was actually being taken care of by the owner or the manager his name was Ricky. Well I showed him what I wanted a picture. I had some nails to takeoff which he did and he didn't soak them or anything use in a plastic nail to take them off. it kind of hurt.Well I found a picture of some nails that I really liked they were kind of white and they had some kind of a metallic look to them and I showed him a picture and Ricky said sure I can do that. He took my old nails off and everything seem like it was going OK except for when he started to put nail polish on which he put on a white coat he put another white coat and It looked like there was a lot of streaks through it. So I said that he was going to do one nail with that metallic powder to see if I liked it I agreed. The only thing was that he put on some gel but he put the wrong one on before he added that metallic powder and the girl next to him in another language was like no it's this one because he's like oh so he use some nail polish remover or some acetone or whatever. He then removed that gel that he put on me and use another one so he proceeded to you know put that metallic powder with his finger nail on mine and was rubbing it continue to rub it and I guess you need to rub it into the fingernail to make it be like that metallic look. Well he proceeded to do this like three times adding more gel and it started to look thick. I let him finish because he said he was going to do one nail but he did two. Well my nails looked horrible they were so thick and so globbed on and messy looking I didn't like them. I told him then that I didn't like it they look globby they look ugly. I wasn't happy. So he said they look nice they do they look pretty. I was not liking it at all I was like no I don't like it take it off. He got a little attitude but he was taking it off and you know he kind of was being a little rough I just wanted him to be done. .So then when he was finished taking off the polish he said what color do you want and I said what I want no chip do you have a color pallet. He said no go up to that wall and pick a color I said OK. I picked a neutral color and then I picked a glitter color for one of my fingers on each hand and he was doing a nice job but all of a sudden he started to glob on this one after I told him I don't want it thick. He said he was doing the best that he could. I just wanted him to be done so I could get out I was there for so long it was a very long horrible experience. So once I was done he globbed on some cuticle oil. Normally I wash the cuticle. Oil off. So when he first was going to do my nails with that metallic nail polish or powder he was going to charge me like $70 for the whole thing. So when I was done he said it was $55 which I can understand because I only did no chip then continue with that metallic powder which was ugly. So I started to pay and so then he said you don't come here no more. He took my payment and said I've been here for 18 years and you can go back to where you were you got your nails done he's like I'm the best! my nails last for a whole month. !They're not like what you came in with. I said wow so this is how you treat your customers this is how you run your business. So I told him that I would yelp and I'll put it on Facebook and anywhere that I could possibly put it on it was the most horrible experience I've never been kicked out I swear to you I was never rude or anything I just said that I didn't like it. He' got so offended because I didn't like the job that he did he was globbing it on. It looked terrible I'm going to post a picture of what he did and how ugly it looks and how crooked some of my nails are that he says he's been in business for 18 years and how dare he kick me out for not liking a color and thickness. I made an appointment for 10:30 and arrived there to an extremely packed and dirty salon. I told Ricky I had an appointment and he muttered to just sit down. An HOUR later, they finally took me and I was extremely annoyed and agitated by then. To top it off, my nails were being filed crooked and I had them re do it-quite a few times. For further upcoming appointments, don't make them if you are not going to honor them. I would rather pay double for my nail service that honors a set appointment. Never again.. read more

This used to be my favorite nail salon, but they've been getting progressively worse lately. I went for a no chip manicure today and Rick kept filing them square (even though I asked for round), and left the edges and cuticles ragged. I asked him to redo it and he tried, but it still looked bad. Eventually I told him to just stop and I would leave without getting polish. He grabbed my hand and showed it to the customer next to me and said, "they look fine, right?" He said my nails are too thin for a good manicure. I was so embarrassed! He still charged me full price for a manicure even though my nails look terrible. If I could leave 0 stars I would. My cousins and I just left the salon and all three of us are currently comparing the cuts on our fingers. They are so painful and even after complaining to our nail techs they told us to stop moving, as if it was our fault! We got ombré nails done and a 5 yo could have done a better job. Our nails look streaky and the gel coat isn't even at all. When I tried to ask them to even it out, their response was, "That's how ombré looks." I've been to MJ plenty of times, service has always been good but The last few times I've gone Ricky has done my manicure and have left extremely disappointed. Today was no exception. I got a pedicure from a young girl, she did a beautiful job hence why I'm giving them the two stars and I got a no chip mani. I had asked for OPI funny bunny and instead I got this atrocious white color. What I wanted was a delicate translucent white not super bright white. But some how I was convinced by him to use the nail color he had bc it would look nicer. Not only that he was annoyed that he made me bleed from my cuticles and didn't bother to remove the ones from my other hand. The end result looked like a child did my mani. I know you must be thinking why didn't I say anything, I did and I was reassure that the white he was using was going to come out nice. So I naively believed him. Whatever I'm not one to be confrontational, I paid for the horrible manicure and left. Please if you want a mani DO NOT go with Ricky, he is the guy that sits in the first booth when you enter! If you don't talk to them, sometimes they start to talk to one another in what I think is Vietnamese, but really, if you want to talk, they'll talk to you forever. -The facilities are modern and stylish, very recently remodeled. First time trying this nail salon & I received great service on top of great prices! Got an acrylic fill in (reshaped from almond shape) and no chip polish take off for $15!! Also got a nice shape for my eyebrows, for only $8! I'm used to paying $22+ for my fill ins, cut down, reshaping. Usually I pay $12 for eyebrows. We used to go here all of the time but it has just gotten too terrible for us to continue. We would get manicures (gel and other) and eyebrow waxings. There is one man there (blonde highlights) who is too aggressive and does a bad job with the manicures. I always leave bleeding when I have him and he just sits there and watches tv on his phone. Then they got a new person to do the waxing. She massacred my eyebrows which already have a good shape and just need a little cleaning up. It has been just about two months and they are still jacked up. Then my sister was getting her eyebrows waxed and the lady told her that she has a hairy lip and should ask her mom if she can get it waxed. I went to M J with my little sister, she is 7 years old and she wears a prosthetic on her right leg which is shorter than the other with a deformed foot. When we got there we had to wait a little bit to get a pedicure, but the lady who did hers and the guy who did mine were both so polite and kind to her. The lady painted her prosthetic's toenails and gave it some glitter. The guy gave her a little cat toy. They were very understanding and did a great job with the mani/pedi too! My cuticles aren't done and it was a very bad job all together. LISTEN LADIES and gentlemen we in 2018 we all want groomed ass feet and nails and a fresh face no hair o-KURRRRRRRT so I've got some HOT ASS TEA TO SPILL ABOUT THIS M************ ESTABLISHMENT so check it out I've been going to this place for 10 years LITERALLY since I've been 13. I came here for it all; I get my nails done, I get my face waxed, the works. I'm pretty loyal, I go in there once a week once every two weeks to get my face waxed and my nails done when I can afford it. So I go in the other day to get my legs waxed and MIND YOU they have FIXED PRICES on their price board. I call a few days before I get my legs waxed to ask about the price and the owner says $25 dollars and doesn't mention ANYTHING about charging more by the hour, by the amount of anything, etc. so I go in a few days later and get my legs waxed. I have a 25 dollar gift card and I planned on getting my lip waxed so that was going to make my visit only $5 without a tip because the lip wax is only $5. So ok, for starters they make me wait an hour. It's not that busy but regardless, I've never heard of anyone waiting at a salon for their services to commence, maybe 20 min TOPS. so they go "go back to the waxing chair" and I oblige and I figure I'll wait another 5 min because whatever they're sort of busy so THEN they look at my legs and they go "we don't have enough wax we have to heat more up" and I go ok... that shit takes 5 min TOPS to heat up and I WAIT FOR LITERALLY AN HOUR because they keep jerking me around telling me it takes awhile so they keep rolling past me and go "omg soon we will do your legs just give it a little more time to heat up" and literally did about 3 women's nails while I sat there and these people came after me. So they finally wax my legs and of course it takes awhile because they're WAXING MY LEGS AND NOT MY EYEBROWS OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT TAKES MAYBE 2 MIN TO WAX and I finally finish at 3pm and MIND YOU i came in around 12:45. So I go up to the register and he goes "it's $55 dollars" and I go.... uh no it says $25 dollars on your board and THIS MAN HAS THE AUDACITY TO SAY "well you had a lot of hair and it took more time" THATS NOT HOW THAT WORKS and if you had any sort of rule in place about prices fluctuating then you should have told me that upfront. Heres the thing, THEIR PRICES DONT FLUCTUATE THEY JUST SCREWED ME OVER BECAUSE THEY KNEW THEY COULD TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ME. So, I pay because I truly don't know what else to do and none of what was said to me processed until I left the salon. ON TOP OF THAT, I LEFT A FUCKING TIP, I LEFT A WHOLE ASS 20% TIP SO THAT MEANS I PAID $42 FOR SOME BULLSHIT SERVICE THAT I SHOULD HAVE NEVER RECEIVED TO BEGIN WITH. listen to me, they SHOULD have said "we're so sorry you waited so long, this one is on us. we see you come in all the time and we got caught up with other customers and apologize"BUT THEY FUCKING DIDNT BECAUSE WHY WOULD THEY WITH THEIR SHIT ASS SERVICE. He begrudgingly comes over to me and I go "what you did to me yesterday wasn't right. You took advantage of me and I want a refund. It clearly states on your board that the price for a leg wax is $25 dollars and you overcharged me for a rule that was never in place" and he goes "we don't do refunds, we do a good job on you and you had a lot of hair and you got waxed above the lower half of your leg" WHERE DOES IT SAY ON THE BOARD THAT THEY ONLY WAX THE LOWER HALF OF YOUR LEG BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I CHECKED I HAVE A FULL ASS LEG. SO, basically this dude keeps talking in circles because he doesn't give a flying fuck about losing a long time customer and clearly is only in this business for the money. I'm about to say something else to him and he goes "I'm not doing this" and WALKS AWAY FROM ME. I live down the street from this place. The first time I came here I was in 8th grade with my step sister and we were getting mani-pedi's for our dinner dance. They cut my fingers to a point I was bleeding. Vowed to never go back. Went back a few year later with my step sister (who loves this joint), same thing happened, my fingers were cut up and bleeding and this time I actually said something and they all looked at me like a monster. I am not a loud person and I don't usually say anything, but I was in pain. Vowed to never go back. My step sister was throwing a big birthday bash in September 2014, I already have my go to salon, but it was Friday night, we were leaving at 9 AM the following morning to our hotel and my nail salon closed at 7, I don't get off work until 6. Have no choice but to go to MJ. This time I have a 2 week old no chip on my fingers. Some guy was sweeping the floors when I walked in, told me to take a seat, and I did. Thinking someone else was going to take care of me, this man started to. He didn't look like someone who did nail work, he looked like a guy they hired to do maintenance, I was concerned, but I don't speak up so here we go again. I got my toes and my nails done. Toes were fine, I don't care about them that much, they were fine, not the best but whatever. Usually while they do your feet and they know you have no-chip on your fingers, they wrap you up with acetone/remover to melt the hard shell away, but that never came. He grabbed my stuff put it by the seat told me to pick out my color (which I couldn't find ANY I liked for the no chip), move, and then turns on the file gun thing and starts 'buffing'(?)/filing the top layer. I can feel the heat from the gun thing burning through my nail and I see it smoking. YES, SMOKING. Not dusting from the polish, my nail is literally smoking so I pull my hand away from him and I'm like "NO YOU ARE RUINING MY NAILS AND HURTING ME!" and he shrugs like "what else am I supposed to do?" I looked at him and I was like, WRAP MY NAILS IN TIN FOIL??? Jeeeeeeeeeze. I was so upset because all I wanted from that weekend was a trip to the salon and it was an awful day at work, I literally started to cry in the salon - how embarrassing.... The owner literally took my credit card out of my hand while I was wiping the tears away from my face and swiped my card for like $40 or whatever it was. Anyway, I ended up picking a color I wanted in non-no-chip and I woke up the next day and they were all crackled, but it wasn't crackle paint? Never, never, never go here. They had the World Cup game on and the place was so loud and the guy doing my nails watched the game more than my feet and kept pulling on my sandle to paint my nails.
