Although we had to leave early, we were able to learn some of history of how Tracy came about from Lathrop Tracy. David is such a calm and kind soul, that his story telling was so captivating and inclusive to all the ppl on our tour. Also, I would like to add that we are coming from out of state and they opened the museum up for us and we're so kind about welcoming us to the Tracy Historical Museum!

They also have some really amazing handmade cards (greeting cards) in the front selling for $2. very high quality so I bought a few!

Volunteering is a wonderful way to learn about gardening and healthy eating. The monthly fee includes compost and water for your plot. There is also a chicken farm here as well. There is ample parking out front. BUFA (Black Urban Farmer's Association) helps to organize the community farm. This is led by the talented and friendly Ines Aldridge and her husband Almas (aka Al). You can find them riding on tractors or planting seeds. They are always ready to offer advice. There are classes every month on the third Sunday of the month at 11:30am. These are open to the public and are free. The list of the classes are listed online. They are run by Shane of Fiery Ginger Farm up in Sacramento. Some of the things we have grown in our little plot include okra, watermelons, melons, tomatoes, Armenian cucumbers, grapes, and eggplants. There is ample parking in front. They grow several different varieties of cherries, and the staff was wonderful about answering all of my questions regarding the different types and which ones were best for picking. If you're looking for the widest selection, I'd recommend visiting during May when the season is in full swing. One thing I appreciated was that they have restrooms and handwashing stations available near the parking lot. After spending time picking cherries and getting a little dirty, it was nice to be able to clean up before heading home. We had a great experience. The farm was well-organized, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the cherries were delicious. We'll definitely be back next year for another cherry-picking adventure!

My MIL bought 20 pounds of cherries this year and originally thought she was getting ripped off (didn't think it was that heavy). She came home and weighed the bag and it ended up being 20 pounds. 2) dog friendly. They are very welcoming with dogs and even remind you to monitor your pet to make sure they don't eat the cherries. If you have a trained dog- it's totally fine. If you don't- keep them home. 3) no frill. Unlike other places that have various types of entertainment- this place really focuses on just cherry picking which we appreciate. If you want the whole show and dance - this is not the place. We like it cause we can go and not expect it to be crowded with people trying to do other things. 4) taste. Can't speak to other farms since we haven't tried them but we find the cherries here to be delightful. 5) customer service. The woman who runs the place is really nice. The other workers are just fine. They're kids so what can you really expect.

But it was a good time. Nice small town festival with local vendors and lots of yummy local foods. There were two stages playing music at opposite ends. One in the Great Plate parking lot and the other right up at the corner of Central and 10th. As you can imagine central was closed for that entire stretch of road. The Lockeford Sausage was delicious and the El Toro Tacos from the taco truck did not disappoint. I got to sample wines from windmill ridge and Ramon rios wineries. There were also a couple of beer/microbrew spots as well. There was an activity tent for the kids, a produce area so you can sample and buy fresh local fruits and veggies, and even a chili cook off. Good times for the whole family.
