I was referred to Mixlab after our senior dog developed congestive heart failure. Fortunately it's treatable with medication but unfortunately our dog won't take a pill to save her life (literally), which means her meds need to be compounded into liquid form. I was told shipping is free.. shipping label was created, then nothing.. vet called today only to be told that delivery date is not guaranteed and they have till 8 to deliver.. Well lady, its probably not even on a truck, but you didn't bother to check, now did you!!! If you cannot deliver by your own delivery date suggestion, them why are you suggesting it? This company overcharges first off. They will charge you twice the price. You can get the medicine from any other pharmaceutical company. And when you ask them how long it will take? They don't give you a specific time. They give you a general time and they're not even sure if you get it done by then. I wouldn't go with this company. They saved my cat's life (after a different compounding pharmacy almost killed him). I was initially referred to MIXLAB through an emergency vet in Studio City, where I had taken my senior cat Roger there for really unusual symptoms (sudden lethargy, lack of eating or drinking, etc.). Conclusion - but that came later - is that the OTHER compounding pharmacy screwed up his topical steroids and he crashed - HARD - because after two years on steroids he wasn't getting what he needed. After a lot of tests and many stressful overnight/over the weekend visits to two different emergency vets (most of this was late last year when vets were hard to come by), they could not figure out an answer and suggested euthanasia. But Roger did not think it was time to go yet and we tried 'one LAST thing'. That was a new prescription for his medication from a different compounding lab - MIXLAB. Long story short - it worked and MIXLAB has been in our lives ever since. They are great - ask ME when I want a refill (I don't even have to give it a second thought), follow-up, deliver quickly and always, always text to see if everything is okay - and every time he gets a new catnip toy...) My experience with Mixlab has been positive. My very young cat (kitten, really) needed a tiny dose of atenolol and they produced it as a small pill she accepted. When her dosage went up a bit, we discussed flavoring the pill and I was given a choice of flavors. I see some people saying prices are high, and they are. Sadly, though, no one makes atenolol at the low dosage my cat needs, much less in a tiny flavored pill. Mixlab does. So unless you can do the magic of appropriately splitting a pill into sixths or something, you need a custom-made product. I DO wish they would ship in less plastic--a box instead of a bubble envelope and the option to have the pills in an envelope instead of a plastic bottle with a way-too childproof cap. read more

My great love and internationally celebrated fluffy warrior, Boo Boo, has courageously battled canine lymphoma. While we have the best of care at Veterinary Cancer Group, nothing about the treatment journey has been easy or predictable. Just as Boo Boo defied the odds with nearly 15 years of impeccable health, so to is a resistant lymphoma. Treatment has been an emotionally taxing journey as I'm forever guessing how to best alleviate discomfort and maximize Boo Boo's quality of life. Last week, Boo Boo was admitted to the ER and treated for pleural effusion after his first round of Tanovea. There was something going on in the days prior to treatment, so it's unclear whether the particular medication contributed or any medication would've resulted in the same overwhelm. Not only was it Boo Boo's first night away from home and/or Mama in his entire life, but also his first time in a cage. As you can imagine, the stress of the environment was almost as debilitating as the condition. I waited in the ER parking lot all day in order that I could pick up Boo Boo the minute he was released. The next day Boo Boo's oncologist checked in. I reported that he had relaxed but wasn't eating and therefore, I couldn't administer anti-nausea medications. She knew of a compounding pharmacy to order Cerenia and Zofran. VCG is located an hour from my house, which I dreaded having to drive yet again. Not only the time spent but because putting Boo Boo in the car, as he now associates it with stressful outings, but I had no alternative. Imagine my joy when the pharmacy called to ask what flavor Boo Boo would prefer. The lady who called listed 5 or 6 flavor options. Anything that might make medication more palatable Boo is appreciated. After selecting the beef flavor, she inquired about when I'd like the medication delivered. I stated, "As soon as possible," to which she replied, "Does tonight work?" Yes! As my credit card number was taken down, she noted that delivery was free. Not only would my baby have drugs on board that night but he wouldn't be unnecessarily stressed out from a drive. I was so grateful. The chic packaging was not only Instagram worthy, but functional with heat sensitive medication cushioned in an ice pack. Fastened to each vial were a pair of syringes, each marked at the appropriate dosage line. Also included were comprehensive instructions and even a sweet Christmas squeaky toy. At that time, Boo Boo was on 6 medications and I was exhausted. I posted the instructions on my wall as an additional check after reading the bottle when preparing Boo Boo's medications. The two prescriptions (14mL each) cost approximately $130. As it turns out, the pharmacy is closer to my house on the westside than it is to the valley VCG. If I had to pick up the medications, it wouldn't have been as difficult as I initially expected. I just got my third Mixlab delivery for my dog's Piroxicam, and have been pleased with their service. Price seems high, but includes free delivery, and I get it within a couple days of ordering. I need to do more price comparisons with local compound pharmacies. I see Chewy.com has a similar dose for almost half the price, but doesn't have the exact dose my vet prescribed, and their pills seem larger (Mixlab ones are tiny/easy to hide in food). My dog's oncologist said her department mainly recommends Mixlab for compounding. Each order has come with a small (roughly 4 inch) fruit-shaped toy, which both of my dogs enjoy. There's a couple cheesy, pet-related jokes on/in the box, which is a fun touch. I'd be ok with not receiving toys and cute packaging though if that would lower cost, since I'm already draining my bank account for chemo. read more

I think we're a pretty good customer filling multiple prescriptions every month. Recently we failed to realize that we were about out of critical medication for our puppy. I scrambled to obtain a refill from the vet so that Mixlab could fill and deliver the prescription the same day. I was on the phone with the vet office several times as well as MIxlab so that I could make sure everything was in order. Once the lab got the prescription they notified me and sent me the receipt for the product. I immediately responded and requested same-day delivery which I had discussed with them several times prior, because I didn't want my puppy to go too long without the medicine. At that point, I was told that the prescription had already been sent out and wouldn't be delivered for several days. I was and am furious. I couldn't have been more clear about the situation. I had to reorder the medication for same-day delivery and pay for a second prescription which I don't need right now. The problem I have is my insurance won't pay for two prescriptions for the same medication filled on the same day. The second prescription cost me $143.54 which after insurance would be $28.71. The only thing Mixlab offered was to not charge me $13.95 which is the charge for same-day delivery. I'm not happy. read more

EDIT: Though I have mentioned to them by phone, I emailed them the issue and they responded offering me replacement for having syringes with air bubbles, so I appreciate them finally to resolve the issue even though it took an upset email for their attention. Changing my review from 1 star to 2 because they are trying now. Will change my review if anything gets better/worse. The only thing mixlab has going for them is their cute packaging. If you have a cat who has hypothyroidism and is using methimazole transdermal, then you're using a cream packed in a syringe like me. If so, I'd advise you to put those syringes up against a light when you get them - mixlabs has been shorting me for who knows how long. I noticed the first two times (about 6 months ago) and I brought this up to them that I'd push out .1mL and nothing came out, meaning my syringes were not fully filled to 1mL. When I went to pick up medication, I mentioned this but it fell on deaf ears. It happened 5-6 other times and I told them over the phone once more. I decided I was done with mixlabs. I still have 6 syringes left and tonight I decided to hold it up against the light and you can CLEARLY see an air bubble meaning the syringe was NOT full. This medication is expensive!! I got curious and checked the remaining syringes... and wow. It was frustrating to discover EVERY SINGLE ONE has air bubbles. I'm upset that I don't even know how long I was fooled and how they have been taking advantage of me little by little by shorting me each time. I'm moving on to VALLEY DRUG, which if I remember, did not have cute boxes but I never had pushed out a dose of air. read more
