If you're familiar with Makati's Jupiter Street, then you know that walking even a short distance down this thoroughfare in the middle of the afternoon will probably end up with you in the emergency room with your brain smelling like sisig. Mmm, sisig. Wait, not the point. With this in mind, you can't blame me if I thought I opened a door into a Tokyo sidestreet when I stepped into Mitsuyado Sei-Men. There was a food cart, wooden tables and hard-backed chairs, and even a rusty iron gate leaning on one wall, leading to Japanese Narnia for all I knew. And the acid trip didn't stop there! Cold noodles served with flavory dipping (or mixing, your choice) sauce, with a big bowl of thick, gloopy melted cheese on the side. I bet you didn't see that last part coming! I certainly didn't. I sat there for a full fifteen minutes trying to figure out how to eat this while stealing furtive glances at the adjacent tables for tips. Finally I just threw caution to the wind and mixed everything with the noodles. It was amazing. Messy, mind you, but amazing.

Hakata Tokotsu Ramen is very far from real one. Be honest, try Ippudo for real taste of " Hakata Tonkotsu." Here is always good for " Tsuke Men" only.

It doesn't have the international recognition of Ippudo or Santouka or the creativity of Nagi, but the ramen here feels as though someone is treating you for a nice dinner at home. There are only three flavors available of the ramen, the shiro (classic), kuro (garlic), and aka (spicy). I've had both the kuro and aka, and I can say that they are extremely satisfying. Neither the garlic nor the spice was too overpowering. The broth was also extremely well-balanced. Not too fatty but still smooth enough to make you want to slurp the bowl once you've finished. The pork cuts weren't as tender as I've had at other places, but still very well done. The tamago was also well done. Love the runniness! But what puts this place over the edge into 5-star territory is the price. You can get a super filling bowl of ramen here for only 230 pesos! And that's for the larger size! I wager that's basically half of what you'd pay at the more upscale mall places for nearly the same quality. I was also able to try one of their sets featuring a bowl of ramen of your choosing, their gyudon rice don on the side and a bowl of fresh fruits for only 360 pesos. I was stuffed after. So so worth it. The gyoza was also really well made, and a steal for only 100 pesos. The staff here is always super attentive and accommodating, even when we've come in with a larger group, and they do accept all major credit cards, which is a huge plus for me. Definitely worth a try. I don't have to venture out to the more upscale parts of the Metro to enjoy a well-curated bowl of ramen anymore!

She had a half serving of ramen and I thought I was having a half serving too but turns out my set came with a full serving! I was so full afterwards but that's all good because the food was so delicious. I especially appreciated the fact that the curry had cubes of beef and not the "malitid" strings of beef you find in other establishments.

I ordered the original set which was a base and basic toppings and 1 meat. The resto is a little tight but it's designed well and gives you that Japan feel. I've already had my heart set on my favorite ramen restaurant but my lunch companion wanted to try something new. While hesitant, I figured why not. There's really no harm in trying. It might be good for me. So I ordered their best seller and figured that this does not look bad at all! The first I usually do in any of my ramen dishes is to take a sip of the soup. First sip was good enough, second sip was even better. Hey, this is definitely growing on me. I was also happy to find out that there are bigger and more pieces of meat at Ikkoryu compared to my favorite ramen joint that charges an extra P100 for an additional thin piece of meat. So plus points to Ikkoryu for that! While I still do prefer my favorite ramen joint (which is yet to be revealed), Ikkoryu Fukouka Ramen offers yummy noodle soup that can satisfy a hungry girl's craving for good ramen.
