My husband and I came here to browse. We love Japanese supermarkets. This is a smaller Mitsuwa marketplace. There is still a foot court, a smaller version of it. All in all, still a great option to get Japanese food. The food court allows you to set two hours per day. No outside food or drink allowed. Ambiance is fine.

It's a smaller Mitsuwa location, but they still have some other shops in there (the J. Sweets and Royce), some flowers and bonsai, and a mini food court. I used to go here when Modo Donuts was a thing in SoCal, but alas no longer. Parking can get absolutely disgusting here as it does with lots of places in the OC, especially this plaza since there's so many restaurants, other businesses, and disgustingly, another Japanese market. Other than that, it's a nice Japanese market. There's lots of products here I don't see at other markets. Different snacks, blind boxes, cute goods (keychains, stickers, etc.), a Fist of the North Star energy drink, imported culinary flowers from Japan, cute Zoonuts (animal donuts), and much more. It is quite pricy, but given that they're imported goods, it makes sense. A decent Mitsuwa.

I don't know how anyone could give anything but 5 stars to this Irvine gem. How lucky are we to have a Japanese market and food court in our city? My 13 year and old and i come for ramen often and shop. Everyone knows Santouka ramen is fire and one of the best around. Plus the mochi donuts and Japanese chocolate shop are incredible finds. Today i grabbed a bag of authentic Japanese rice, some fresh fermented miso from Japan, curry, veggies and kimchi. I always make sure to grab some fresh shiitake mushrooms one of the healthiest foods you can eat on a weekly basis along with quality miso and kimchi. We're moving to San Clemente soon and the one thing in Irvine I will miss along with the 100 things i won't miss (apartment complexes that have taken over the city and 300,000 people in a city meant for 150,000) is Mitsuwa. PS visit the Costa Mesa location for a larger store.

This is a wonderful quaint Japanese marketplace. I discovered this location years ago when it was my daughter's birthday and she needed some Hello Kitty birthday gifts. Now I realize that there are some wonderfully delicious restaurants, at the location as well. There's a soup place, that seems to be really popular and looks super delicious . There are lots of flowers and fresh orchids, lots of items that one would only find in Japanese grocery stores / Japan.

I haven't been here in a while so stopped by after I checked out that new market, Tokyo Central, in that next shopping center. Such a let down from Mitsuwa. Everything looks dated and the store isn't super clean after seeing the brand new market next door. How sad.

The kids love these.

Mitsuwa in Irvine, is located off of the Culver exit on the 5 freeway. They're in a very busy plaza so parking can be a bit difficult during rush hour. Mitsuwa, is a Japanese marketplace that offers a small food court to the back of their building, and some small vendors off to the side directly in front of the cash registers. This Mitsuwa is tiny. In my honest opinion, they don't offer much but I also don't typically shop at Japanese food stores so I can't compare it to others. I literally go to Mitsuwa to buy some of the cooked eel, some sauces, the food court, and for J Sweets. The kids were happy to find the brand of mochi and other Japanese ice creams they've been gifted in the past. Hubby, excited for the seaweed sprinkles and sauces for cooking. Me for their chips. I don't do a lot of grocery shopping here but let's just say my husband likes that I can't walk out with a giant cart full of food. That's in part due to the fact that they really are a small grocery store and items are limited. Because of this, I can only do 3 out of 5 stars. They're not bad, but not my first choice for grocery shopping.

Very clean, well organized and well stocked Japanese store with one of the most friendlies employees! The store itself is quite small in compare to other asian store that I went but They have variety of products and a food court! The quality of products is there but its lil bit overpriced! There is a big parking outside so there is no struggle for parking... I ended up buying huge selection of teas and hard candies that i was looking for them for so long time so if you want something Japanese products and you didnt find in the other asian store dont forget to check this place! Its a gem...Also, they don't accept EBT. They have products that the price is around $1000 which it makes sense! They have hiring with minimum wage of $18.

Chashu Miso Ramen (medium) $17

I ordered the Chashu Miso Ramen from Santouka and was not disappointed. Service was FAST, flavor was great, and priced right $17! Ambiance was expected from a food court.

A great market that includes a food court with restaurants, drink shops, shops, and a bakery hidden inside. I usually buy a drink and sushi at the market to bring over to the food court with an entree from there. This time I bought onigiri from the market and a katsu don rice bowl from one of the places. It never disappoints, as it reminds me of my trip to Japan. It's pretty self service and seating at the food court. You order first and they'll call it out loud once it's ready for pick up. The food is always hot and fresh and flavorful! I'm drooling as I'm thinking about it.

Ask the Community - Mitsuwa Marketplace

Does the Irvine store sell already-made onigiri? If so, where in the store?

Yes! The same place as the pre-packaged sushi near the sashimi... lots of great-tasting onigiri varieties too!! ;))

Does this location sell tapioca boba to make your own boba drink?

What time is the ramen place inside the market open?

They open starting from 11am (this includes both Santouka and Misasa). Another note, Misasa…

Are the restaurants open? For sit down?

Yes

Are they selling Goma Sauce?

Yes they have every kind of sauce including goma

When is the best time to buy sushi, because last time I went in the afternoon there was none left?

Preferably around opening store hours (9-10am) because that's when they have most to all of the food items placed out

Do they sell soju here?

No, but they do have sake as an alternative.

Do they sell dry ramen noodles?

Yes!

Is Modo Hawaii open at this location?

Not anymore! ;(((

Does Marukai supermarket in Cupertino take the EBT?

Unclear. I would call and ask

Does Mitsuwa Irvine have a bakery like Costa Mesa? Love the bakery :)

No, it's not like the Costa Mesa location. They have one vendor that sells on the side a few bakery items but not like the other location.

Do they sell poke by the pound?

Nope!

Does mitsuwa accept ebt?

No they don't accept ebt. (And chillax to the Karen who snooped on this posters Yelp page to determine if they should/shouldn't be on EBT. Lmfao! Get a life.)

Does sushi become half priced at 4:00pm or 6:00pm?

I have been shopping with Mitsuwa Irvine since they've opened. After 4PM or 6PM some of the sushi items does get a discount.

Is it right this Irvine Mitsuwa location has closed down?

No. Where did hear that?

My personal favorites here are the salmon and/or yellowtail collar. It is the perfect crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Must get. They give you not just the collar, but a piece of the fish too. I also really like their poke salad. Huge portion, and ample amount of fish. You can't go wrong with their nigiri pieces. I've tried most of their nigiri pieces with different fish, and it doesn't disappoint. My husband really likes their beef dish and the chicken teriyaki dish too! This place is def worth it and I hope they don't change their quality or pricing! The restaurant can get really busy! But so thankful they have Yelp waitlist. It is busy, but service is good. Restaurant can be a little bit loud inside because of the music.

Normally that wouldn't be a huge issue if there was actually a way to add it through the DoorDash menu, but there isn't. I explained that I was trying to pay for it and simply wanted to know how to do so, yet the woman I spoke with was incredibly rude and dismissive. Instead of trying to help find a solution, I was treated like I was inconveniencing them by asking a simple question. Good customer service is about helping customers (I've ordered there many times before and dined in person as well), especially when there's an issue with your online ordering setup. A small side of spicy mayo should not turn into an unpleasant interaction. The food may be decent, but customer service matters too. There are plenty of sushi restaurants that appreciate their customers and are willing to provide basic courtesy and assistance. Based on this experience, I won't be ordering from here again.

The restaurant was very spacious and clean. First red flag was that they didn't have miso soup... what kind of sushi restaurant doesn't have miso soup lol. For the first round, we were limited to 10 pieces per person and the service was extremely slow with long waits between rounds. We even had one order of uni come out as literally just rice and seaweed with no uni?? And this was when they weren't even busy. The rolls were terrible, loosely rolled, drowned in sauce, and lacking flavor. The nigiri was the only thing that saved the meal. The fish-to-rice ratio was good but the fish itself was mediocre. They advertise bluefin tuna toro but what we got was more like negitoro rather than an actual piece of toro nigiri. The salmon belly also seemed exactly like the regular salmon with no noticeable difference. Service definitely needs improvement too. Whenever we needed something, the staff were nowhere to be found or cleaning instead of checking on tables. For the price, I expected a lot better in both food and service. With so many AYCE sushi options at a similar price point, I'd rather go somewhere else next time.
