But once inside, you're in another world --modern, organic and comfy chairs. The patios are beautiful and very intimate. Just a great vibe. The service was lovely, with "Somme" taking great care of our large party. Everything came out on a timely basis and the wines were interesting and served at the right temp -- whites perfectly chilled and reds slightly cooler than room. As for the food... it was a foodie treat, with the tuna tartar being a particular standout for its unique condiments and accompaniments. Totally unexpected as it's one of those items found on pretty much every So Cal menu. The beet salad was balanced with both red and yellow beets. The Burrata and dressing added so much flavor that I could have stopped there. I ordered the special barramundi fish, which arrived with a perfectly crispy skin and a lovely light citrus sauce. Our party ordered the BBQ cod (another real real standout!), steak, pork belly and Korean short rib and everything was amazing and perfectly prepared. The charcuterie was all U.S. crafted by small producers and well worth ordering. Unfortunately, we left no room for dessert but will return because apparently "Wife" bakes them. In fact, I saw that if you order with 48 hr advance notice, she'll bake a cake for your special occasion. So, guess where we're going for my birthday? I love this place!

Our server was kind and mentioned being a sommelier, but the wine service felt underwhelming at best. The pacing between courses was also very drawn out. That said, most of the food was lovely. The only miss was the scallops, which seemed underprepared and were oddly floating in a citrus broth. We would have been happy to overlook the slow service and enjoy a long, relaxed evening catching up with friends--until the end of the night. After we had already paid our bill and were in the middle of dessert, we were abruptly and quite rudely told we needed to leave because they were closing. I didn't even get to finish my dessert, and one of our guests had to abandon a half-full glass of wine as we rushed out. After waiting nearly an hour just to begin our meal, being pushed out the door like that felt incredibly disrespectful. Such a disappointment, because I was really excited to try this place. The food is good and the atmosphere is charming--but the overall experience, especially how we were treated at the end, left a bad impression.

The list clearly favors organic and biodynamic producers, which I always appreciate--minimal intervention, letting the terroir and varietal speak without unnecessary manipulation. The flight format was flexible, offering around five selections with the option to choose three pours. I went with a sparkling red, an orange wine, and a white--each bringing its own personality to the table. The sparkling red was lively and slightly unconventional, the orange wine had that textured, skin-contact complexity, and the white rounded things out with a clean, expressive finish. Our server elevated the experience by guiding the tasting order, which made a noticeable difference in how each wine showed. It's always a good sign when the staff understands how to pace a flight rather than just drop it off and walk away. We didn't explore the food menu this time, so I can't speak to the full program, but purely from a wine perspective, it lands at a solid 4 stars for me. The space itself is ideal for a relaxed midday tasting--plenty of seating, with a great outdoor setup. The tall greenery creates a sense of privacy without feeling closed off, making it just as suitable for a casual date as it is for catching up with friends. Honestly, if you've got a flexible workday and don't need to be on camera, this is a pretty perfect spot to post up with a glass and ease into the afternoon.

Waiter Manuel. This…read moreis a review reflected on you, solely. Being kind is the moral of the story, from the beginning you were passive agressive with your comments and tone. Being in a party of 4 girls coming from high tea, we were dressed in elegant dresses, first comment was asking if we were coming from church, followed by eye flutters, short "okay" with an upward inflation to a joke about the day, an impatient comment about hurrying up and trying the wine while we were talking, asked for water when we were out, were left to pour the rest of our wine, didn't ask how the food was all the while was attentive to the table behind us, the cherry on top comment was when we were discussing the bill at the end, he was hovering at the table behind ours, then when we were ready, we asked to split the bill into 2, my portion on mine and the rest on another card, he then said "this isn't like a drive through, we can't do it that way" so I asked him to explain his comment, cause it was passive agressive and rude. After he wasnt able to becuase he wasnt expecting me to call out his rude comment, I had to then break it down and specify what I had ordered, he then sold "okayyyy....so how much, cause we don't itemize?" I had to again express for him to specify how they do it cause he has still yet to explain where his attitude is coming from and explain how they do their check splits, from my understanding it just felt like he wanted to play dumb and make me to the math, one I did he was like "ohh, okay" should have asked for the manager but we paid and left, I hasnt had this experience before being a returning customer, but he needs an attitude adjustment as his attitude was completely out of pocket. Do better Manuel, you alone got your place of work a 1 star. The rest of the staff was kind, facility beautiful and food and wine was good. This restaurant is not reflected in the 1 star.

This review is long overdue because I first fell in love with Mazal as I impatiently anticipated their opening. I lived nearby and watched the progress as the owner and his father spent nearly two years building out the beautiful interior of the restaurant themselves. Everything about Mazal is a labor of love involving their entire family, including menu items that are grown in their orchard. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, whether you are in the dining room or on the patio. I'm back in LA frequently now and come to Mazal nearly every time. In addition to the hummus you have to have spicy tahini (or the new-to-me adorable mini falafel and tahini plate). My other new favorite I'll definitely have again is the shawarma oyster mushrooms, air-fried and served on cannellini bean purée with mint chimichurri. Everything is incredibly fresh and delicious. You don't want to miss the bourekas (the assortment of five cheese bourekas is something I dream about), the maghrebi potatoes (on tahini!), and the marble halva (take it home if you don't have room after all of the aforementioned must-haves and thank me later).

Baby albacore took me by surprise with its freshness and crunch to add some texture. The chili stew was an item I was hesitant about as I do not like pork. However I couldn't taste the pork and it was so delicious with the side of homemade tortillas! The dates were warm and nutty and was nice paired with the sourdough.
