I never would have known about this shop if my brother-in-law and sister hadn't moved to Melrose a few years ago. It is located in the heart of the town, right on Main Street, and if you can't find a parking space on the street there are two municipal lots within short walking distance. Miter Biter is family owned. Everyone I've dealt with is super friendly and knowledgeable. I have bought artwork that they have had on display as well as pieces of my own. The most recent of these is a picture of my great grandparents after getting married and my great-grandfather's family. It is over 100 years old, and was never cared for properly because my grandmother's family was too poor. Amanda, who has been working since the fall, waited on me. I wasn't sure what, if any, kind of restoration might be done to it. She explained that it wasn't just a photograph, but it was actually a photo that had been blown up and re-exposed, then painted, so it was more of a painted canvas than anything else. She showed me how the humidity had affected the coloring, and the only 'real' way to restore it would be to bring it to someone specializing in digitally analyzing the work, but the original would be vastly different. (This is something I'd love to have done someday but I'm sure it would be incredibly expensive). The picture also had what Amanda described was white mold, and that if they tried to remove it, they would probably strip away more of the color. The mold was only at the very top of the picture and had a negligible impact on it as a whole. We decided that we would try to find a frame as well as matte that would accentuate the piece, washed out colors and mold and all. We went through mattes and frames for over an hour before we settled on just the right combination. They also gave me the frame that the picture was originally in (real mahogany) and explained that the joints were a bit loose but if I ever wanted to reuse the frame they could fix it. Fast forward. I picked up the finished product on Sunday, 2/20, and I am still blown away by how beautiful it is. Everything looks just "right", matching the coloring of the picture and the time period, etc... I brought the finished job to my grandmother because it was a gift for her. She looked it up and down (still fastidious at 85) and kept exclaiming how beautiful and well-put together it was. By the time I was ready to leave she was crying because that picture is one of only two that she has of her parents, the second being a small black and white photo when they were much older taken shortly before her father died. This experience alone is enough to merit more praise than I can give, but I will add only that I have had cute etchings framed for my 2.5 year old nephew and signed lithographic posters, as well as other family pictures. Miter Biter is family run and they treat you, their customer, like just another member of the family. If you're like me and have trouble deciding sometimes about what color matte goes well with which frame etc, you can also bring in something and give them creative license. My sister did that for some photos of my grandfather during World War II and gave me the resulting work for my birthday. I don't think I could have picked a better combination or layout than what the patriarch of the family chose for me. Thank you thank you thank you, a million times! read more

Go there for all your framing needs. That's it! Period! But to expand on that, I have been going to Miter Biter Frame Co for many years and I have never been disappointed. On the contrary it's been exciting to go in to pick up and see what a wonderful job they do. They recently framed a very old city map. They had professional suggestions on matting and framing that would accentuate the piece in the best way. I loved the way it came out and the receiver of this gift did too. It now hangs in a prominent place in my home and knowing how well the craftmanship that went into it, it is something that will hang there for many years to come. read more

Highly recommend Miter Biter Frame Company. Especially Amanda who provided excellent service and has a great eye. She helped me select the perfect mat and frame for a precious pastel portrait. Couldn't be happier! read more

First time customer with Miter Biter. Wanted to frame a 24"/36" poster but didn't want to break the bank. After considerable searching and researching, I came across this business. Most of the other local places were astoundingly expensive for even basic framing. The poster isn't a work of art or anything pricey so I didn't want to spend a ton on just a frame. From the moment I walked in the associated worked closely with me to get the right frame from a collection of options and price points. She didn't rush nor oversell me. We tried the poster with 3-4 different frame types and colors. I settled one that I liked. I paid in full ahead of time and the finished job was done within one week. I'm very satisfied with the result and would recommend Miter Biter for any of your framing needs. I will definitely be using them again when the need arises. read more

I brought in a photo that my wife and I are gifting to a good friend. The photo has great sentimental value and I knew from past experience that Dan and Faith would do an excellent job. I couldn't be happier with the framing. It brings out the beauty in the photograph- Nubble Light, full moon, Christmas time. read more

My personal pleasure is photography and have gone to this family owned business for years. Service, advice, quality work, and reasonable price for those photos that were special to me. For the one framing that required unique creativity, the artist on site was a great help, and resulted in a perfect gift. read more

This is the first time going to this shop. I have seen this store for years but I had never gone in. What a wonderful gem in melrose center. The staff was personable and engaging. The selection was phenomenal. I can not wait to see my print! read more

So disappointed! This place got glowing recommendations from a friend. I came in with four pieces that needed framing and/or repair. I spent about 30 to 45 minutes with Amanda, who seemed friendly enough; I was the only customer in the store. At one point, I told her I was going to call my husband to get his agreement about one of the repairs that was more expensive than expected. Amanda went into the back of the store at that point; when she came out, she was harsh and angry for no reason I could discern, and tried to hustle me out of the store, telling me to come back when I had figured out what I want to do. I actually was ready to tell her what I wanted at that point, but she neither asked me nor gave me a chance to say a word, declaring, "I can't spend all day with you!" When I pointed out that there were no other customers in the store, she then told me that I had been rude to call my husband "in the middle of talking with [her]" (which I had not done). I was very shaken by the experience, especially since so many of the reviews on Yelp rave about how kind, helpful and patient Amanda is. She must have been having a bad day. read more

I love this frame store. I've had two things framed and each time the service was outstanding. I was unsure of exactly what I wanted both times and they were extremely helpful and patience. The prices seem reasonable, although I haven't done much comparison shopping. And the finished product is beautiful. The turn-around time was about a week for both pieces, but they were done on time without any problems. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

You have something that you love, you want to keep it forever, you want it around when your dead and buried! Who can help preserve that for you and make it appear like it is exactly what you want it to. Miter Biter - that's who! I moved to Melrose in 1996 and there's a lot not to like about that terrible city. However in downtown Melrose there is an old school, family owned small business. Yes please !!! I didn't think much of it the first time I had something framed *see 2001 Superbowl Champion New England Patriots, however once I had the Herald framed and saw how beautiful it came out, I was completely hooked. Thankfully I have been lucky enough to have 6 more championships for my sports teams. They have a bunch of other things in there as well for sale, local artists, paintings, pictures etc... In addition to the already affordable framing, they offer a free framing after you have x amount framed. They provide you with a plastic card for your wallet so you can rack up points and earn a free framing. I think they average out your prior purchases and credit you. I appreciate local small businesses, being the owner of one myself, and I also appreciate expertise. Look I'm a dude, I have zero idea what matting goes good with what color frame etc.... When I use to frame something I would go to Osco Drug and buy a frame and it would look like complete shit, but hey I was a bachelor it didn't matter right ? Well anyways, they are always there to show you your options and give you some ideas of what works for whatever you are framing. Oh and if you want to talk sports and you know I do, wait till dad is around and he will talk about how great the Celtics are. I told him they had no chance this year !!! Local, independent and excellent !!!! Woohoo ! As good as it gets.... read more

I have had many pictures framed at Miter Biter and have been extremely pleased with the process and the end result. Recently with a coupon, I went to Michael's to save money but found the pricing comparable to Miter Biter. Will stick with them from now on! read more

Almost everything that is framed in our home has been done by Miter Biter! I will never go anywhere else for framing services. From paintings and water colors purchased during adventurous vacations to family photos and vintage postcards to even a Kidz Bop Kids poster for my daughter. On recent trip to the Cayman Islands my husband took a picture on his phone of a sunset. We both enjoyed the picture. He had forwarded it to my phone and I took it to Mitter Biter. The young lady was able to transfer it off my phone and told me it would be ready in a week. She made an enlarged print, matted and framed the photo to match the decor in his den. My husband was not expecting the picture, so I made brownie points without having to make the brownies ;) Very nice job with the entire project by the people at Miter Biter. read more

Miter Biter Frame Company - Sunset on 7 mile beach in the Cayman Islands - Framing Near Me - Melrose, Massachusetts

I bought a print that I wanted to mat with a special inscription for my husband on our anniversary. I brought my print in and customer service was a little less then par per previous reviews, but I figured I would give them a try since I work so close by. My time is limited between work and caring for toddler twins. I asked the young man that I needed a custom mat for my print and he picked a beautiful mat that would highlight the colors in the print. He told me he would have it to me in a few days since they are really busy for the holidays. I figured it would be fine since I could just pick it up when I went to work the following week. I don't live in Melrose. When I went to pick up the print it was not in the correct color mat just a plain bright white mat. When I told the lady she said "oh well it says digital white on the receipt he must have quoted you a price before he picked the color and didn't change it." She said she could have it redone and have it to me the next day. I told her that my anniversary was today and needed today. She then said oh well sorry happy anniversary and that was it. Really that's all you can do...she didn't even offer me a discount or my money back. So disappointed how the mat turned out but I needed it today so what else could I do....Never going back there again. read more

I had a very special print framed by Miter Biter and the experience was great. The proprietor was very friendly and helpful and patient as I went back and forth trying to decide on the right frame. He had plenty of suggestions that helped me finally choose. I also had special requirements I wanted such as UV glass, no wet matting and so forth. They framed the print perfectly between the backer and the glass so that I could change the frame in the future if I wanted and the print would suffer no damage or deterioration. For the specifications and size the price was also very reasonable. Although I have since moved about an hour away, I would travel back to them to have new prints framed because I feel confident in the way they handle my art. read more

I recently had some watercolors framed at Miter Biter and am THRILLED with the end result. This place is definitely top notch in their work. I got 4 acrylic canvas paintings stretched and framed about a year ago. I was extremely happy and thought I wrote a review. So this review is a year late as I have already used them a second time. Went Mitre Biter on small business Saturday since we had a print that we wanted to have framed. The staff is extremely friendly - it is family owned business and they treat you like family. We had decided on getting a black frame before visiting and after talking to the staff they suggested a lighter color that picked up the color of the print - great suggestion and great results. Would definitely recommend to my family and friends - you can't go wrong. read more

They people that work here are very kind and friendly, however the quality of framing has been inconsistent in our experience. Prior to moving to Boston, we have had other items framed and so we have a quality comparison showing great discrepancy. That being said, we have evidence of what we expect from framing. We've had two items framed at Miter Biter and the first item was done well, however the second item had gaps in 3 of the 4 corners as if the pieces were cut too short. They then tried to fill the gaps with a black putty that left marks on my hands. We tried to take it back to have them fix it and when we picked it up again the gaps were still there, they just tried to fill them with more putty. I don't foresee using their services again. read more

I have had several things at Miter Biter framed over the last 10 years. But i recently went to Michael's because I just wanted a cheap double matte 18 x 24- and they charged me $93. SO I thought just to make sure I called Miter Biter and they quoted me $44 for the same double matte. So I canceled Michael's order and I went with Miter Biter. And I am kind of ashamed that I just assumed the big guy would be cheaper. And I know it's going to turn out beautiful. They are also putting in UV glass and installing the print in the frame that I supplied all for the same price as one matte from Michael's. I would definitely not bother with Michael's for framing and go back to Miter Biter from now on. Trust me- I did the leg work and comparison for you- it's not worth it. And you get great customer service at Miter Biter. read more

I brought in 4 square postcards that I wanted framed together, and the woman who helped me had a great sense of design. She went through a number of options with me and recommended things I hadn't thought of, but without being pushy. In the end, I went with everything she recommended, and the piece came out beautifully! I thought the price was very reasonable, especially given the level of expertise she brought to the job. read more

I've used Miter Biter for multiple custom framing projects over the years, always with good results. Most recently, they worked with me to create a special gift for my future sister in law. Miter Biter duplicated and resized an old family photo, then installed it inside a locket that I provided. I dropped off the photo Saturday and picked it up on Tuesday. Very reasonable pricing. The bride to be is delighted about the gift. read more
