I have a Christmas ornament that is made out of an egg shell that my first grade teacher made for me. I'm 56 so that gives you a reference of how old it is. A few Christmases ago, my cat tipped over the Christmas tree (first time ever after 10 years having this cat) and I have hard wood floors, so you know what happened. The egg was broken in many places. I was devastated. But I picked up the egg and its broken pieces and put in a plastic bag, determined to figure out how to fix. I spent a few months looking all over the internet and reached out to friends for help with no success. I took a break for a few months and then decided to ask ChatGPT for assistance. I sent an enquiry for cloissone repair for a vase I owned. I was quoted $100- $200, so I shipped them my vase. That cost me $65. When they received it, they said the repair would be $750, more than the value of the vase. They said if I wanted it back, it would cost me $200. I said I did not want to pay more than double of what it cost me to ship it to them. They said they would dispose of it for me. I told them I was unhappy with this program, no response. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars with this company on restoration. Years ago their quality could not be beat and you pay a premium for that quality, it used to be worth it. Not long ago I received 3 pieces back from them, one of them looked like a child took a paint brush to it. While they agreed to correct the work I haven't returned the pieces for fear of further issue. Hoping whatever apprentice or intern they had working on my pieces was sent packing. Would no longer recommend. Edited to add. I'm a bit gobsmacked at the response. The teapot had a chip at the spout. Their quote to me: On the teapot decorated with cranes we would be able to fill the missing piece on the spout, and touch up the repair to be inconspicuous for $400.00. On the vase: And on the vase with the tree design we would be able to bleach and seal the crack, fill small chips, and touch up as above for $300.00. There is nothing inconspicuous about either of these repairs. Both pieces still appear to be obviously damaged and the repaint on the teapot amateurish at best. These folks are miracle workers. They specialize in glass and china reconstruction and restoration, but they also work with alot of other media. If they don't have the expertise onsite (such as painting or jewellry restoration) they can recommend trusted and qualified restorers. I had a broken vase, with lots of pieces. It's a family piece with lots of sentimental value. I was heartbroken. Restoration Services gave me an estimate and discussed a couple of ways to fix it. The less expensive way (a couple of hundred $$) made the vase useable but still with some visable cracks, the very expensive way (almost $1,000!) would have been invisible restoration. I went with the less expensive way. It took about six weeks, but the vase is beautiful and useable again The cracks are almost indiscernable. The quality of work and care are obvious. I am really glad I found them. Something to remember: THEY ONLY TAKE CASH OR CHECKS. read more

I had an absolute horrible experience with this company and would recommend that anyone in need of restoration services go elsewhere! I brought in a chandelier that was given to me by my parents, to have it restored for my new home. I had several broken arms, and needed to have the chandelier rewired. I specifically told the owner himself, Nelson, that I needed to have the chandelier rewired so that it would work on an electronic pully system. Well, they took my money and never put a single new wire into the chandelier. When my electrician came to hook up the chandelier he told me that it was not properly wired for the pulley system and he then had to re-do the work that I paid Restoration Services for! When I called Restoration Services and explained the situation to the owner, he told me that was easy for an electrician to fix and that I should just have them do it. I said that was fine but that I wanted my money back for the rewiring work that they never did. He refused and said that he didn't owe me anything. I have a receipt that states "rewire" for $520, yet this company never rewired anything in my chandelier, and refused to reimburse me. I found the owner, Nelson, to be insufferable and to add insult to injury he called me a liar! I would never recommend this company to anyone!! They are awful! read more

I can't say enough good things about these experts. They made museum-quality repairs to my precious china, invisible to the naked eye. I got a ballpark estimate in response to my emailed jpegs, which was quite affordable considering the sentimental and replacement value of my china. Holly advised how to carefully pack my broken parts and ship to them. When I received the parts, I was absolutely amazed by the quality of their work. I learned to keep all the parts and fragments, handle them carefully and pack them well and separately (don't let the broken pieces touch), and don't reassembly or glue broken parts yourself, you'll chip and glob up the cracks and create more damage. Yess.. I am incredibly pleased with the results of a broken glass elephant that my daughter bought in Italy on a study abroad program. Just FYI, glass polishing/refinishing or filling a tiny chip on a glass and a decanter is very expensive: $240 for each chip to be smoothed out on non-valuable items. I declined their estimate because of the expense. If you have lots of money that won't be a problem and I'm sure they do very nice work. Just not in my budget, especially when the cost is 8 times the value. Also, I did not receive any kind of receipt when I dropped off my items and it's quite a drive to retrieve them. I sent in 3 pieces of Oriental porcelain. It was a poorly glued teapont spout, a very broken saucer, and a chipped and holed cup. This porcelain is very fine and very thin, I am amazed of the caliber of repairs that were done. I did not pick full restoration. But as far as I can tell, that is what I got...at least visually. I can't even see where they glued the piece together. Being an impatient sort, I didn't like the turn around. But that is OK because the repairs are fabulous!!! The time Restoration takes is worth every minute. And they do keep you updated on where your job is in their queue. But being me, means I'm still impatient. But for work like this, I will wait...impatiently but wait I will. This set is more sentimental that cash worth. So when you need fine porcelain repairs done, this is the place to go. I brought in a beloved teacup that had a hairline fracture so would render it unusable for repair. The staff was very nice and easy to work with - they took the cup, took one week to make an estimate ($135) and asked if I would like to proceed. I left the cup with them and 8 weeks later I just picked it up. I can still see the hairline, but I can still drink out of it and use it as before. They did a great job! I never expected it to be perfect, but it is! There is no evidence of any repair. I didn't think it was possible, and I was thrilled to see the results when I received it yesterday. This place worked a miracle for us and I am eternally grateful. The weekend before Thanksgiving, we realized with horror that a banner which had been attached to a family heirloom antique mirror with scotch tape had lifted the paint from the frame, leaving ugly splotches. We brought it to Restoration Services on Monday. Those kind and wonderful people not only said they could fix our mirror, but they agreed to do a job that would ordinarily take weeks in two days so that we could have it back to hang in the dining room for Thanksgiving. It's a delicate piece and they worked magic on it; they matched the color perfectly on the frame, airbrushed the paint so that no one else could ever tell the mirror had been marred and the price was extremely reasonable. It was ready first thing on Wednesday morning as promised and it looks gorgeous. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the quality of the work and I am so appreciative of how quickly they completed the job. They are the best! read more

Nelson and his team gave us back the use of a '40s Paul Frankel dining room table the surface of which had become so delicate (hand painted but with a later varnish type finish that was lifting and crackling the surface) we had to keep it covered and felt uncomfortable putting much weight on it. We thought it was a matter of time before the major sections of the surface would be lost. The center hand painted base was equally distressed. Then we recalled Nelson and services he provided years ago. Long story short, we brought in a leaf-section, and Nelson said he could in-paint areas of bare wood and apply a coating that would hold the surface in place and even flatten areas that had risen. Remarkably he delivered well beyond what we thought was possible. Today, we enjoy our Frankel dining room set like never before ... enjoying the surface beauty and more importantly, unreservedly, using the table as it was intended.
