The clerk at this location had great suggestions for how to frame the pieces that we bought in. I haven't seen the finished pieces yet.

Martin was very polite , patient and a great designer I didn't know what I was doing and he helped me pick the right frame and mat Came out beautifully! Price was fair and selection was terrific read more

Excellent, prompt and friendly service. They have framed many items in our home and always do high quality work. Highly recommended.

I made an appointment at Big Picture Framing..it was easy & painless.. The associate was masked & gloved every precaution taken. After chatting about different options..I settled on 3 amazing frames for my paintings. The staff is professional and creative!! Highly recommend read more

The customer service at this store is FANTASTIC! Everyone I have worked with over multiple visits has been patient and kind. They do beautiful work and you can tell they really want you to love your piece! read more

Made an appointment to have a framing job done with a Nift coupon. "The manager" was so flat and unwelcoming, I assumed she was off that day. She said they would NOT accept the coupon, nor she said the owners, unless a custom frame was also ordered. No where in the coupon was this mentioned. They do not take Groupon or any others. During a pandemic, I enjoy supporting local businesses, and keep my outings short. I decided not to go forward due to her treatment of me and their policy not to accept a valid coupon. I will never utilize this shop again. read more

Dropped by today with a large canvas to see if I could speak to someone for 5 minutes or make an appointment. Had called ahead as well but phone was offline / had "unavailable" Verizon message each of the 3 times I called. Waited outside door as someone was inside with an appointment and once that person was done asked the staff member for support. He was extremely and unnecessarily rude and closed the door in my face - when I told him that his phone was off, he said that's not true and he "must have been in the bathroom," which was clearly untrue as I called at 3 different points all spaced out. He repeated that I should make an appointment online and slammed the door in my face, refusing to even answer my simple question. We were both wearing masks and standing apart so this was not the issue. Very put off by this staff member and do not recommend coming to this location. read more

Beautiful work, done in a timely fashion. With pretty good hours and an attentive staff, this is about as good as you can hope for when it comes to a framing shop. Thanks to Big Picture, I've got a Frank Pepe pizza box that looks like museum-quality art. read more

I have had 8 pieces framed here in the last few months. Very safe covid situation. I have 3 more there I'm excited about. Very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I came in with a hand-painted large piece that was tough to frame due to the nature of the material and paint. The associate was extremely helpful and patient with their recommendations and did a great job. When they called to let me know it was ready, the pickup process was seamless, the associate showed me the piece and made sure I was happy with it and I was able to take it home. It did take a while which is why 4 stars but I'm sure that has to do with COVID. Prices were high but I guess thats custom framing. Would go back read more

Careful, the promotions this place runs are a scam. They mark it up to mark it down. I just brought something in for custom framing that is EXACTLY like something I had framed 3 mos. ago. When they wrote it up, the top line was higher than before. So my cost after the 50% discount would have been the same as it would have been without the promo. The big "50% Off" sign in the window appears to be fraudulent. When I called them on it, they backed down. read more

First time I visited Big Picture Framing, my mind was everywhere but on the task at hand. A family photo needed to be framed as soon as possible for, very unfortunately, the memorial service of a loved one. I called half a dozen picture framing businesses in the Cambridge/Boston area, and these guys were the only ones that offered a 24-hour turn-around. And I didn't even have to explain myself - all I said was that the frame job was a bit of an emergency, and they magically understood. I also explained that I had no idea what to expect from a framing store, having never had anything framed professionally in my life. They were kind enough to explain how much I might spend, and what types of changes usually factor the cost difference. The lady who assisted me was patient and understanding, while kindly offering her suggestions expertly regarding colors of the matting, choice of frame, etc. I know I must've appeared to be very scatter-brained and flaky under the circumstances, but she never seemed frustrated with me for even one second. The next day I called to let them know my SO would be the one picking up the frame. They made a note of it, and he had no problems with that exchange. I just returned from my second visit there today. The man at the counter was on the phone when I walked in, and he flashed me a big bright smile when he looked up to see me while continuing his conversation politely. As I approached the counter, a lady next to him was helping out another customer at the register, and took time to say hi and, "I'll be with you in just a moment." Not even a moment later another young woman walks around to see if I needed assistance. For the next half an hour she helped me with mat/frame selection while we chatted about public radio (not NPR). I was once again impressed by their service, which prompted this review. Pricing was fair, as far as I know: 11x14 photo with mat/frame - around $110 19x39 poster with frame only - $90 18x18 print with mat/frame - $160 At any rate, if this is overpriced, I'd happily pay for the experience. read more

Thank you for not making me feel dumb when you should have. I dropped off a very important framing project a few weeks back. In my head I heard July 23rd for pickup. I should have looked at my receipt which clearly stated July 24th. I showed up on the 23rd absolutely sure this was my pickup date. I was exasperated and frustrated as I had made arrangements to deliver the framed item to a client. Dennis and the young lady in the store actually apologized (even though I am pretty sure they saw July 24th on their copy of the receipt). They asked me if I had 30 minutes and that it was not a problem and that they would take care of it for me. They could have easily stuck their receipt in my face and said: "look right there it says the 24th" but they didn't. I came back 20 minutes later and they were just finishing up. They continued to be really nice to me and the quality of the work was right on the money. They never broke their smiles and never let me know what the receipt actually said. When I got home I pulled up my receipt and, sure enough, my pickup date was July 24th. They saved me and did not take the shots at me that they could have. That is just good old fashioned customer service excellence. Furthermore, the consultation I got at the beginning of the project was A+. I told them that I had no idea what to do (colors, styles, layout etc.). They took it all on and picked a perfect setup and color scheme. They also did it at a very reasonable price! Egg on my face but not on yours. Great job! Now a customer for life. read more

I feel like the biggest quality you look for with a place like a framery (or a tailor or car repair shop or barber) is whether out they actively try to take advantage of you. I mean, I don't have the experience and tools to frame something or else, I wouldn't be there. So, you know you have found a good place when they have a chance to tack on an additional $50 or so for some BS charge that you probably wouldn't know about and instead they save you the money. We went here recently to have a framing job done that involved both a picture and some dried flowers. The service was AWESOME - even on MLK day when they might have been grouchy to be working. The salesperson helped us pick out a great mat, a cool remnant frame, and get everything set up. She then said that she could certainly mount the flowers for us (for about $50) or she could get everything set up, we could go across the street and buy some acid free glue, and do it ourselves. I really appreciate that kind of honesty from a salesperson who could probably bump up her sales a bit, but saved us the money. We were super satisfied - professional, fast, and skilled! This place is a good find and we would definitely take stuff back here. read more

Big Picture Framing was excellent. I brought in six pieces to be framed - two paintings, two prints on rice paper and two ink on paper pieces - and they took care of them all in a little over a week. One of the paintings was going to be tricky as there wasn't enough canvas left on the sides to stretch it properly and the guy who helped me did a great job explaining how they would work with it as well as telling me he'd call me to let me know if there were any problems. The guy who helped me was super nice and knew what he was talking about. He really took the time to go through options with me, which I appreciated. When we picked up everything yesterday I was so pleased with the way it all turned out. The tricky painting was able to be framed and looked good, and everything else looked stunning. On top of all of that, the price was reasonable. I had brought the two paintings into a place down the street and had been shocked that the quoted price. It was a little more than half of what my total was at Big Picture (if I remember correctly). I will definitely be back to Big Picture for future framing. read more

This place continues to impress me with their knowledge, quality and prices. My third trip to this store and having work with Michelle has been nothing but amazing. She has a great eye for details. She presents a few options and without imposing she gives you her professional and honest opinion which I do greatly appreciate. I would not go anywhere else as long as Michelle is there. read more

Stopped by looking to frame two sentimental pieces to add to our home. staff was rude and unhelpful when inquiring about appointments or process during covid only to get the door slammed in my face before I could inquire about available appointments. Was hoping to help a small, local business instead of Framebridge or other online chains but did not feel like Big Picture wanted my business or even valued me as a customer. read more

I love this place. I so like these white people. They inspired me to think about all the ways one could be creative in making their picture stand out. Like I literally get excited at the possibility of framing a picture. It's like adding the right a belt, or hat, or sneakers to the outfit. I love the blond white woman for inspiring me to play with the style of the picture. This place is expensive because framing is expensive. But they will work with you, like a good fashionista, always willing to work within your budget. I am so mad at them, tho. Why I hate shopping and clothes and they have me making fashion metaphors?!??!?! Y'all I have spent the last 20 minutes staring at a picture that I just framed. Why? Seriously, though? If you read the five stars rating on this page, it's all true. I am a customer for life and I understand the preservation model more and I feel a little bit more like fashionista though I dress sloppy. read more

I brought two items in simultaneously for a job. The staff were very helpful in walking me through the available frame, mat, and glass options, and the end product was nice. However, they never actually called me to tell me the job was ready-- so I followed up with them on my own initiative, only to be told the item was already ready. It drives me BONKERS when service places do that. I would still recommend them for a low-pressure job that is not time sensitive. Just be aware that you may have to nag them to get your item back in the end, if my experience was any indication. read more

I brought a large print here to get framed. The staff was helpful in picking out colors and frame style. A few days later I get a call that they ruined my print, apparently they put it in the heat press and the ink came off. Luckily it was a print and not an original, I ordered a new one which they reimbursed. However, print was originally ordered from Europe so it took another 3 weeks to get a new one. Everyone was very nice, but this is a big mess up. So about a month after I originally go to drop off my piece I get a call that it is done. I go to pick it up and when I get it home I see a few little bits of dust/ red paper or something are sandwiched in between the glass and the image. So I return to the store, where once again they apologize and say they will fix it. I even got a phone call from the manager apologizing, but at this point I would have expected they would offer a discount or something. Nope. A few days later I get a call saying it is ready. I go and pick it up, it looks good. Then I get home, put it on my wall, and when the light hits it I can see a couple of dimples in the print. I give up and just tell myself it is good enough. It is now about two years later and the dimpling has gotten worse. During the day my print looks terrible. It was clearly not mounted properly. Since I moved out of the area I can't even bring it back to have them fix it (again). Moral of my story, the people here are really nice, and I am really unhappy with the work I had them do. read more

Their customer service is horrific. I bought a piece of art elsewhere, and the artist there told me they ship to framers across the world. I tried to have my art shipped here to be framed; called the shop only to be very rudely informed that "THEY DON'T DO THAT." When I tried to defuse the phone call and say that the artist would send framing instructions, I was yelled at and told "well you just put the order in so change the shipping address." DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

entrusting big picture framing with one of my parents' wedding photos turned out to be a fun experience, resulting in a beautiful product to be cherished over many more years. i walked in expecting a simple white matte with a simple black frame, and instead walked out with a more traditional, rustic black frame with a warm silver tipping that would still complement my decor, yet make the framed piece more special. The warm silver brought out the beauty of the black and white photograph -- i would never have picked it out myself. i was one of many who purchased a groupon. because the size of the photograph brought the total amount to under the groupon amount, i decided to go with museum quality glass upgraded from the standard archival glass at the suggestion of the framer. not to mention that the framing is sturdy and well crafted once i picked it up in a timely manner. read more

Second rude encounter with staff. No need to go into details but the primary staff person is not an open, helpful or generous soul. We all need to be a little kinder during these difficult times and I hope she will think again in the future about how she treats others. read more

I had some things framed here for an elderly friend. I worked with Dennis who was incredibly patient during the selection process (I consulted with my home-bound friend during the process and had to leave a couple items outstanding for later follow-up by phone). I talked about a couple small issues we had had with a job a few years back and he assured me that everything would be a ok, which it was. He was also great in helping select mat colors and glass. A couple months later (just today) I brought a piece back because the screw holding up the wire that the work hangs off of had come out. Dennis took it back with no questions asked and redid it (with a different, more secure mechanism) for no charge. A delight to work with! read more

My go-to guys for framing! A Groupon deal brought in the door and I keep coming back. We have gotten 3 things custom framed and one large piece reset. The service is over-the-top friendly and patient - it's not easy figuring out what goes together! They offer advice in such a nice way. This is key... they have a policy that you can come back and have something fixed or changed for no extra cost (unless you are purchasing something more expensive). So I had my wedding invitation framed and I didn't love the color of one of the mats I had chosen. They took it back and fixed it so quickly. It makes a big purchase easier when you know you can always fix it. I'll keep coming back (but hoping to find another groupon... framing isn't cheap). read more

I was there earlier today looking to replace the plastic-like glass replacement on a *huge* framed poster I have. Sadly they didn't have the material in the size I needed, but the woman I spoke to still gave great advice on how to choose the material and where I might find it, and even gave me a cutout of the material so that I could make sure I was buying the right thing. So yeah, they were pretty amazingly helpful, and I didn't even buy anything! I totally feel like I owe them at least a 5-star review. Compare that to another framing place I had tried before, that was pretty unhelpful as soon as I said I was not looking for a complete, expensive custom framing job. Next time I need to frame something or buy a frame I will go out of my way to go to Big Picture, even though the other place is right next to my house. I kind of feel I owe them that too, but mostly I just know I'll walk out of there with exactly what I need. read more

i have spent probably 10s of thousands of dollars framing things in the last 20 years and this place is my go-to (other than art barn in ossining, NY). i've been to other local places but the ability to be hands-on when designing, the help from the staff (as much or as little as you want) and the way they'll take back and adjust anything at no cost (even if it was MY fault something didn't come out as i'd envisioned) makes big picture at porter square stand out. keep up the good work, oh and get LevelUp for payment please! if you can get a groupon or go when they are having their 50% sale that's a big help with cost. custom framing is not cheap anywhere. read more

I was taking part in a fundraiser for a non-profit animal advocacy group in Boston. We had a framed painting that was donated to us for a raffle, and, while carrying it, I accidentally dropped the bag containing it, and the glass cracked. I took this to Big Picture Framing (the Harvard Square branch), and told the friendly woman working there what had happened and asked if I could just buy the glass as opposed to a full frame. She not only allowed me to do that, but donated the glass and services, since what I had received was a donation. She did a flawless job with her work, and this very generous gesture was incredibly heartening. Top-notch service in every regard. I can't recommend this store enough. read more

Now that I have worked with Big Picture Framing, I will never go anywhere else. I have had them frame posters and invitations and photos of all different sizes. They are willing to select a classic frame and mat or, when requested, a creative combination. They offer a variety of glass options as well. Their work is high quality and looks great. More importantly, their customer service and lifetime guaranties are outstanding. Our cat knocked over a frames poster before we hung it and broke the glass. We took the poster back to Big Picture and sheepishly told the story. They took the whole thing back, replaced the glass, and, because the frame was scratched, replaced the custom frame AT NO CHARGE because they guaranty their work for life! read more

I've brought three different pieces to Big Picture and will keep coming back. They are friendly, do good work, and I hugely appreciate that you can come back and make a change if you want to. This place is awesome. I had a rush order they turned around in less than a day, and the quality of the work was excellent. My husband and I had our Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) framed here. We had an artist do a custom water color for us and this piece was my pride and joy! We brought it in and decided to go all out. The people who work here are knowledgeable, friendly, patient and happy. They were happy to share their opinion and they gave some excellent recommendations (double matting for a more dramatic look, thicker frame for a bigger piece so it doesn't get lost). When we picked it up I was completely speechless - their recommendations made all the difference in the world and the work was done beautifully! I had two maps framed here in April. The total cost was over $300. Now the maps are all wavy in the frames and look terrible. I supposed that maybe they should have been drymounted, but the clerk I dealt with did not tell me that was needed and was fine about just doing the archival mount. If you are having a largish poster or map framed, double check with the clerk as to whether it should be dry mounted since they obviously are not going to volunteer this information. read more

Took three prints to get framed. A nice guy at the store helped us choose the frames, the width of the matting, etc. The prints came back looking great, except on one of them we weren't completely happy with how the shade of white on the matting matched the white background of the print. I went back and explained this and they very graciously took it back and re-did the matting free of charge without even a hint of a grumble. Very happy with the experience and all three prints look really stunning on our wall now. They are clearly very knowledgeable and care about their customers so I look forward to using this store again. read more

I bought 3 Groupons to Big Picture Framing. Went back with 7 items to be framed, including diplomas and embroidery projects. The staff was again very attentive, the work was very good and it was all done in a reasonable timeframe. They knew how to sew my embroidery projects onto fabric backing to mount them properly (not like the sketchy masking tape job I did at home. I forgot my husband's professional school diploma there that we had decided would fit into a ready-made frame. When I called they promised to keep it safe with the rest of my order. A lesser framing shop probably would have lost it, but they even stuck in the ready-made frame for me when I came to collect everything. read more
