This gem in North Kansas City has been in the area for 7 years. I have driven by hundreds of times having lived downtown for 14 years and I never knew it was a liquor store-bar. The ambience is clean neat and not over crowded considering it is a bar in a liquor store. When I say liquor store I mean they carry mid to high end liquor with the unique ingredients that make your cocktail a tasteful event. You definitely will not find anything basic here. If you are a big mixology fan this is your place to taste something unique and different and the best part is the ingredients are on their shelf to buy. We sampled the fall menu with our group of 4 each ordering two different drinks each and sharing to taste. The bartender (so sorry I forgot his name) was very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging with us. Just a side note- they don't serve food however two tables bright food in so that is a great option. If you are looking for a different option and experience this is definitely a place to check out. Note- they will be changing to their winter cocktail menu soon. They will be featuring "warm drinks ". If warm drinks are not your thing there is always the basic drink options as well. I love tasting so I and absolutely coming back to try the Winter menu. For those interested in Amaro liquor the serve flights so you can truly get the scope and find your preferred flavor profiles. They are not on the menu but you only need to ask the bartender and they will help set you on your journey. Last note- the prices are mid range better than most for a great cocktail. Met a work buddy here. Cool location with the liquor store front and the bar in the back. Our bartender really was passionate about his craft and I appreciate seeing that. It was Tiki night but with a head cold I stayed away from the sweet drinks. Had a Toronto per recommendation from the bartender and it was top notch!! Second round was well Four Roses and he didn't seem to mind my audible on the recipe. Asked for half the simple syrup and chocolate walnut bitters vs the aromatic. This was quite possibly the best old fashioned I've had. Wish it was closer to home but I will be back!!. read more

This liquor store that also doubles as a bar is a very curated place. The liquor store side sells some rare types of alcohol you might struggle to find in other places. Their selection ranges from Fernet Branca to really good bourbons to fancy bottles of gin. I think there's even a pistachio liquor that I saw. The store side also sells a ton of bitters to make a huge collection for your home bar. Lastly, the store has drink ware and notebooks you could keep your recipes in. The bar side is a fantastic place to grab a drink in North Kansas City. The bar has access to the same big selection of liquor the store sells on the store side. Actually, the bartender ran out into the store side to restock a bottle when it ran dry. I asked for a drink that normally needs to be made with Sprite. The bar didn't have it but the bartender said he'd get creative. He did just that when he added soda to lime juice and I couldn't really tell the difference. When we went, the bar's television had on the classic movie Office Space. It was fun to just sit back and watch it again. read more

Love this place! My dear friend and I went in for espresso martinis right before an ice storm him. It was pretty empty in there (due to the ice storm of course) but the bartender was more than ready to serve us. The martinis were delicious and walking around looking at all of the unique liquors that they have for sale was a blast. It very quaint and artistic and we really appreciated that the bartender and the folks at the bar were so proud of NKC and the other establishments nearby. I will definitely return! But be sure and go with a smaller group because it's a squeeze. read more

Excellent selection of spirits especially gin and Japanese whiskey. Drinks are okay, very strong but to be expected when there are 2-3 in every drink. The espresso martini was diff than any we had, had before -right or wrong. The mixologist was slightly off putting, more concerned with the TV remote than serving. No thank your any customer service aura to him. The place was fairly full so hard to get a vibe check. The place seems nice and it's in the heart of NKC, which makes it walking distance to much. read more

I was happy to find a semi exclusive and hard-to-find whiskey variant. If you're looking for something similar, you might give them a call to see if they have it or can get it. Mitch e Amaro is a little gem of a liquor store and craft cocktail bar hidden on Armour in downtown North Kansas City. It opened in 2019 and was impacted like many small establishments by closure during Covid. As my wife became a budding mixologist during the pandemic, a visit was in order. Follow her on Instagram at boozin_with-soozin! Mitch e Amaro is perfect for home bartenders and cocktail nerds (their term). Beyond a superb selection of the finest liquors, they also have all the utensils and ingredients to be a rock star bartender. My wife loved her first drink, a $40 shot of The Boss Hog straight rye whiskey over ice. Exquisite was her first word! I tried several cocktails, the Negroni, Aviation and Corpse Reviver for me. I'm more of a gin fan. Each drink was better than the last. Susan had a Sazerac and closed out the night with the classic Old Fashion. Beyond the friendliness of the staff, they really do a great job of listening and explaining what makes each drink special. My only wish is they served some salty snacks while you drink. This spot is a one of a kind gem, and my absolute favorite neighborhood bar. They have an incredible menu of both classic and eclectic cocktails, served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. A wonderful example of a specialty liquor store with a bar. There is a selection of many liquors that I cannot find anywhere else in the city, much more extensive than I expected. There is a very large (multiple page) bar menu, where you have the opportunity to try the products sold. The best surprise was that you can get $5 off if you buy a cocktail and a bottle. The prices are in line with the market, and the service is great. Also, there is a $1 off bottle special if you bring the bottle of the sameproduct they carry to recycle. We really love what's happening in North Kansas City these days. Over the last two years they've seen an incredible increase in the number of entertainment venues that have opened up. The indoor climbing gym is often credited with starting it all, and since then several breweries and distilleries have come, new bars, new restaurants, Chicken n Pickle and now Old Shawnee Pizza. These interesting and creative businesses along Swift and Armour have come together as a business league and call themselves River North. The name may not be original, but many of the businesses there you won't find anywhere else in the city. So, when we heard a liquor store was opening where Le Monde Bakery recently vacated, we were a little apprehensive. We pictured a tight, boring, florescent-lit storefront with rows of white grocery store shelves. So when, Mitch e Amaro opened its doors at 306 Armour, we were elated. Let me unpack this a bit. An Amaro is a bitter-sweet after dinner liqueur of which there are several. Ben & Josh Edwards, proprietors of Mitch e Amaro, are Amaro enthusiasts. In fact they are just cocktail enthusiasts in general with a particular affinity for Amari (plural of Amaro - I just learned that) and other liqueurs. So they gathered up their passions and their capital and open a very avant garde liquor store in an equally unorthodox business district. Ben & Josh have curated a selection of what they consider the most enticing and flavorful liqueurs. But they didn't stop there. On the dark floors of Mitch e Amaro stand stout, dark wood shelves and tables holding not only the assembled Amari, but also hand selected whiskeys, gins, mezcals and rums. Their drink menu updates regularly and the bartenders will make just about anything you want. Be prepared for professional wrestling on the tv.
