I went there yesterday around noon and they were out of ribs so i can't really give them a good review because i didn't get what I wanted. I just couldn't believe that a BBQ place could be out of ribs at noon on a Sunday. I could understand if it was later in the day but this was prime lunch time. Amazing food. Staff is always helpful when you cant pick from the large menu. Food is always steaming hot. Like that desserts are rotated seasonally so you get the best for the season. Standing at noon to honor the flag and the soldiers gives goose bumps. read more

Went in tonight it was busy but didn't have to wait long which is good. I got the ribs, sausage and brisket. It was good but not BBQ in my opinion. None of my food had any smoke flavor at all. The "Brisket" tasted like roast beef. Had no smoke ring at all. The ribs where tender and moist but they fell off the bone which means they where over cooked. The sausage had a good snap to it when you took a bite but again no smoke flavor. Seems like everything is cooked hot and fast and to me that's not BBQ. I'll come back again but maybe just to get a sandwich. read more

Stopped in for dinner while visiting friends who live in the area. They recommended it highly, but not based on this visit. I ordered the 2 meat combo with brisket and turkey. My wife had the rib and brisket. The turkey was slightly juicy and moist - slightly. The brisket and ribs were dry and tough. It looked like it was smoked and then kept in a warmer for a week. Our friend ordered the salmon, which is not always available. She left two thirds of it on her plate- also dry as a bone. When a staff person came by and asked how it was, I held back since we were with other folks. Had I been there alone I would have asked for a refund. The cornbread was stale and had a medicinal taste. Only the mac and cheese was decent, creamy with a crunchy topping. Maybe they had a bad night, but if you go there, check your tray before you walk to a table. I should have. Yes, they honor service men and women and that's great, but first and foremost, they are a restaurant. read more

But I find it very ironic that a place that wants to support military and says they do (hence even the soldiers creed by the drinks), they do not offer a military discount...? Yes there is a monthly freebie, but just seems ironic as hypocritical to be a pro military restarting with the theme being that as well and not having a discount. Even IHOP has a discount for military. Just strange. Let me open a college themed restaurant but not offer a student discount. Otherwise, food was great! And I found it a bit overpriced for what was offered. Rather busy due to location in VA Gateway and staff was very friendly. Today, Monday October 8 at around 2:30pm Mission BBQ wasn't on point. I ordered spare ribs and brisket combo. 1st there was no cornbread today with the meal and they gave me baby back ribs instead of spare ribs. I didn't realize it until I had already covered them in sauce so I just sucked it up. I am usually pretty satisfied with this location but today they were not on their A game. I also asked for half and half on the brisket you know wet and lean and all I got was the dry lean. I'm not sure what happened today but I know you guys can do a lot better than this. read more

I want to give this place a 4/5 star review because ive had 2 amaaaazing experiences there with brisket sausage and pulled pork combo. But last sunday i went around 6pm and ordered the same 3 meat combo and when i got home and opened it. The brisket mustve been sitting out all day becuase it was soo dry stringy and hard i could barely chew it and it fell apart into pieces and the sausages had a tough outer layer as if they were out to dry for a long time. I was so sad because i love bbq and i was so looking forward to this meal. When its good i give it 4.5 stars. But the last meal i had was a .5. Next time i guess ill have to check my order before i leave but itd be nice if they just saved the dried up meat for throwing in the beans or something read more

What I got was a Pulled Pork Traditional Style and it was really tasty and not too dry. My dad got and Pulled Pork NC Style and he said it was one of the best sandwiches he had ever tried. We also got some fries which they give you a lot and they taste really good. One thing I wish would have been better would be that my Pulled Pork Traditional Style did not have that much flavor/taste but it was still really good. I got a two meat combo of brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was so dried out you couldn't even eat it. There was no fat on it whatsoever. I don't know who taught them how to cook brisket but they were taught wrong. The corn bread as soon as you bit into it almost crumbled into powder. The pulled pork was OK. Ate dinner here tonite. Unbelievably good food, including the sides. Everything homemade. We followed our noses to the door. About 8 or 10 sauces. But my favorite thing is how friendly and organized it is. We chatted with the manager while we waited for order. And I like the idea that they give back to military, police and first responders. Used the catering service for a party in Oct 2017 and got such great compliments from my guests about the food. Been twice to the recently opened one in Gainsville, VA. This is more of a fast-food restaurant. No menus, and you go up to the counter to get your food. So the price is right. I got the chopped brisket sandwich. Pros: HUGE. Lots of meat. They don't short change you. Service was fast. They got my order correct. Cons: I thought the brisket was a bit overcooked and oversmoked. It was a bit bitter. But that's a matter of personal taste. I'm a Kansas City boy - so I have my preference. I suspect this is more a Texas place. Very pro military, pro LEO. Which works for me. Good news/ bad news, first the good news best damn collard greens I've ever had in my life and being from the south that's saying something. Now the bad news, I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich with sauce on it the meat was dry and overcooked I had to send it back then I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich with no sauce on it and it came out dry overcooked absolutely no flavor when you're cooking barbecue or brisket there should be some smoke flavor involved unfortunately no flavor whatsoever to their meat the owners of this establishment might want to consider going down to Texas where they know how to cook good barbecue maybe they could learn a thing or two. read more
