Four stars for Kimmie's patience! I visit Portland every summer for work, and was in search of a lash technician while here, and came across Miss Knockout (after analyzing many Yelp reviews + noticing her experience with Asian eyes). I opted for a textured volume cat eye style, and Kimmie delivered - they initially looked amazing. Now, here is the explanation for why I have to ultimately dock two stars. While we're still ironing out lash retention issues (my right eye seems to be shedding more quickly than my left one - maybe the heat and humidity of Portland summers is the culprit?), Kimmie has been understanding and has scheduled me in for quick touch ups. I understand Kimmie has an extremely busy personal and professional life, but for me to have to take time off work to Uber to her salon is also frustrating for me as well. Even after my quick touch-up, I am still experiencing some lash shed, which should not occur so quickly. A fan even shed the same day of the touch-up which is frustrating. I've never really experienced this issue with any other lash tech, from LA to Portland. In fact, after my last touch-up just two days ago, I have already managed to collect at least eight (!) more fans that have shedded. However, I feel bad about constantly contacting the salon for the same issue. It's probably frustrating on both of our ends. I just want to note that I am a back sleeper and extremely careful about not getting my lashes wet, even when showering. So I know that my lash care is not the culprit - I suspect maybe my lashes have not been cleaned and prepped properly beforehand. After reading other reviews, it seems like there is one other general consensus - perhaps the lash glue MK uses is not of the best quality, as retention is dismal. Also, another small issue that rubbed me the wrong way is that when I called, the lady over the phone offered a 10% off promo for new customers, but when it came time to pay for my service, the 10% discount wasn't honored. I would've used that 10% discount as a cash tip towards Kimmie anyway, so I think ultimately it was a small gesture that she should have honored. Oh well. Regardless of not honoring the promo, I tipped anyway, at the end of the day. On a positive note, the MK space is very well-appointed and beautifully decorated, with snacks and drinks for waiting clients. I appreciated this little touch and level of customer service. And because Kimmie is a hardworking business owner, I hope for the sake of her business that it thrives! read more

Such a bizarre experience booking with this business. I made my appointment a month ahead, and an hour out from my arrival I attempted to call and warn them that I might be 10 minutes late because the weather (driving up from the Gorge) was bad. No one answered. When I got to the property, the door was locked. I tried calling again, no answer. I finally called another number on the door, for the neighboring business to accept deliveries and someone from the other office came to get me. I understand they were keeping the door locked because of someone using the hallway to smoke-- but they had no instructions on the door and weren't answering their phone, at this point for over an hour. Upstairs, the girls working weren't sure who I'd made my appointment with. They kept calling the owner, who also asked for my number-- but she didn't get in contact with me directly until later that evening. Instead I sat waiting, unsure whether someone was on their way or what, for nearly 1 hour before leaving and walking down the street to see another Lash tech. I never received an explanation or an apology, even after I drove an hour in subpar conditions just to keep my appointment. I have been coming to Miss knockout since 2021. I found my brow artist Adrienne and she is the absolute best! I have never gotten compliments on my brows until I started coming to her. Well, this is really the first time I have ever done this as you can see from my profile but I felt this needed to be said so that people can understand who the company is that you're dealing with and the type of customer service that's being provided. I would like to start this off by saying that my fiance has been a customer of this company for over a year and has ALWAYS used my credit card ( that is under my name) to pay and they have happily taken the money EVERY SINGLE TIME. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago when my Fiance decided she wanted to cancel her appointment. She had to put in a deposit of $188 for the appointment. She decided she did not want to go to the appointment anymore so she canceled her appointment a week ahead. Two weeks has passed and we did not receive our money yet I was becoming irritated with the fact that my money has not been returned to us yet. My finance then called Miss Knockout and spoke to the owner Kim who was extremely rude about the fact. She kept stating that we never paid a deposit but we had the receipts. She then came out with another excuse of " Well you shouldn't be using a card with a different name, we don't accept that". Yet you have before? She replied with " Oh well that's a mistake". Fast forward to two days ago when I completely just had it, especially how they were treating my fiance so I decided to call myself. I was told by the front desk lady * Corey * ( I believe that's her name but I might be misspelling it I apologize for that) that she will give my number to the owner and she will give me a call right back and reiterated the fact that my fiance will not be allowed to be seen with my card. Six hours have passed and no one called so I decided to show up at the salon with my girl and see what the problem was and If I can talk to Kim in person. We showed up and talked to Corey and she said that Kim had just left she even tried calling her while we were there but nothing. At this point, she asked if she can see the card which I don't understand why but we gave it to her anyway. She did not know who I was at this point I never gave her any identification at all. She then said ok I'll mark it down as I saw the card, I replied " but you never even checked my ID? How do you know that's even me and not some random person? " She replied " Oh I'm sorry you're right. Can I see your ID? Sorry I've just been a little taken back here since y'all showed up" I don't understand why she was taken back? No one was raising their voice it was a calm situation but she was frazzled for some reason. Now I do want to state that I am Afro-Latino and pretty dark-skinned. I hope that this didn't at all play a part in her having this feeling of being " taken aback" or frazzled but my later conversation with the owner is starting to make me think otherwise. I showed her my ID and she assured me she will be calling me tomorrow to see if we can fix the issue, so we left. The next day I had to call them back because she did not call me and I was highly annoyed at this point and spoke to Corey again and she stated that she spoke to Kim and they will be sending me a check for the full refund and I was happy. She took my address and told me she will be calling me later in the day to let me know when she has dropped off the check and we left on good terms because I felt my money was coming back finally. Then Today came and I never got a call from the company AGAIN so I had to call them again to make sure my check has been mailed. Again Corey picked up but this time told me she needed to pass the phone to Kim ( the owner). Kim told me that she will send a check over to me but there's one thing I need to do. Apparently, her staff felt like they weren't safe by me showing up at the salon yesterday and felt very uncomfortable so she needed me to sign a paper stating that I won't be returning to her establishment again. I was immediately confused because I didn't do anything in the establishment. If anything it was quite the easy encounter. The only thing was I was highly irritated at this point so It def showed on my face that I was not happy as nobody would be. Yet I said fine because I had no intention of going back to her company, especially the way they spoke to my girl. Kim then responded Oh and I will send over the check as soon as you sign that paper and another paper saying you will not slander or write any negative reviews about the company. That's where I completely lost it and had it with her. I lost my composure and told her off. She was trying to keep my money hostage until I signed this paper? No that was not happening. During that call, she even threatened to call the cops on me. So I laughed at her and told her to do it. I'm not doing anything wrong and I'm not scared of the cops, so go right ahead. Well my eyebrows are ruined. I've been here before and loved it each time. But this time was not it. I go in for a shaping and a tint and came out with two caterpillar's on my face. The dye wasn't on my brows but ON MY SKIN and even if she was trying to go for a "boxy eyebrow" the lines weren't even straight. I cried after leaving this place bc of how bad I looked. The cherry on top to the whole situation was that I paid for a MASTER brow shaping and tint which is more expensive and didn't leave happy. Don't go to the owner for your brows unless you like the caterpillar look. I got a full refund, free fixing of my brows, and a 30$ in store gift card. Luckily my brows are back to the way I wanted them originally. Lash, retention after 2 weeks, was sparce! Since i have had lash extensions for 5 years, i know my prior personal experience with retention is 95% after 2 weeks, 80% after 3. So i know how bad this was! Less than 10% after 2 weeks, even for an average person, is bad! After seeing the above review, the owner contacted me and offered to have me come in to have my lashes redone by her. I appreciate that she made a special point of coming in to correct the poor job previously done (which was coupled with poor customer relations). I've never reviews a business with one star. But their service here in just Terrible! Other than Kaylee (I think that's her name), who schedule the appointments (she's always so sweet and a delight to deal with) and Jaylynn (who was my favorite stylist), the service here is terrible and their extensions don't last longer than a week and the henna brow tattoo doesn't work at all-waste of money. If you look up my history of appointments of my first couple months there, I had to get fills every week or two, so as a business owner, if I'm bringing you consistent business like that, you would think they would be more accommodating. My very first time making an appointment here, the girl I spoke to misquoted the price of my fills and told me I could get a discount and didn't mention to tell me to come with a mask (this was the beginning of Covid), which she acknowledged and apologized for in person when addressed, and once I arrived for my first appointment, I didn't even get the stylist I originally asked for (which was specifically an Asian stylist, which I think was Kimmie-now that I'm seeing a photo of her on Yelp), that she said she would assign me with, and my stylist quoted me a higher price than what was quoted over the phone (which the front desk girl, again, apologized for) and I also had to go and get a mask because she didn't give me a heads up to wear one for the appointment (again, this is before masks were mandatory). So, my first impression here was that they were really unorganized and unprofessional already. At my first appointment, I got my extensions done by Jaylynn, who actually did a great Job (given the available materials), but the lashes started falling off within a week, and my friend and I also tried the henna for our brows (which is said to last about 3 weeks, but only lasted about 3 days) so we went back to tell them and show them, and my friend didn't get a refund or credit, but I did get a free touch up for my lashes since a lot fell off within a week. So, I continued to go get fills there and make appointments with Jaylynn only. A couple months later, I made an express fill appointment with another stylist, because Jaylynn wasn't available, (with a blonde stylist, who was supposed to be the 2nd best to Jaylynn) and she was soooo slow, with sweaty palms (that really bothered me when she had her hands on my face) and she barely filled my lashes, which I paid about $60 for, and the ends of my extensions started coming off so much that I tried to reschedule a few days later (which with my busy schedule, ended up being within 8 days instead of 7, one day over their complimentary touch up week time frame) and even though they could see how badly the extensions came off, they refused to fix my extensions, on the house, let alone give me any sort of a discount! And when I've had express fills some with Jaylynn, they were 10x better and fuller, because she so fast, and I expressed this to them and they were completely indifferent about it and refused to accommodate in ANY way. I was so put off about that that I didn't go back for a few months and then I recently tried to give them another shot for express fills after having gotten my lashes done elsewhere, a week ago, and the girl on the phone, once again, scheduled me for an express fill with no problem, even though I mentioned that I had my full set done a week ago elsewhere, just to receive a message from them later that day, saying that because my lash extensions weren't done there (the full set), that I was obligated to a 90 min volume session for $120! For fills! I've never heard this before, and I've been getting my lashes done for a decade now! When all I needed was just a few lashes added to the far ends of my extensions!! How outrageous is that?! And soooo unprofessional!! She then asked for me to send her photos of my current lashes so she can determine how long the time would take, which I thought was fair and was about to do so after my work meeting, and before I could even respond, 20 minutes later, the owner herself refused me as a client, because I was trying to find a way to go around having to commit to a 90 minute sessions for $120 for basic volume fills (probably only 20 pieces max! I didn't even get a chance to send photos before she outright refused me! Unbelievable! What a horrible establishment. And the girls that work there openly talk about how they don't like each other and you can even hear everyone's conversations from every room, because the top of each room, the ceilings, are all open. This place really needs to get their staff on the same page, so there's less miscommunications, and work on their professionalism. They're overpriced anyway, so I would recommend anywhere else but here. read more

I needed a last minute lash fill before a wedding last week and was so happy with how easy MK makes it to book appointments. They even had a special package where I could book for a fill for work done by another artist from a completely different salon. When you book, there's an expansive variety of services which is more than I've seen at any other local lash boutiques, which makes me feel like I'm working with a more experienced and higher end salon. Given the variety and the posh atmosphere when you walk in, I was pleasantly surprised to see the pricing as good as it is too. Lastly, the quality of the job is exceptional too. I used to joke among my friends that I had camel eyelashes, you know, where they jet straight out and block sand from blowing into them? Except I'm not a camel and don't find myself in sandstorms often. I just have the awesome stick straight Korean eye lashes that won't hold a curl for more than 5 minutes. Scene: You're in the middle of a deep conversation with me when I lift an eyelash curler up and do a quick squeeze, then tuck my curler back into my purse and resume listening -- in 5 minute intervals. I look at that in the same light as the person who clips their nails in open public spaces. So I've walked around my entire life with MAC lash strips or sand blocking, straight natural lashes. That is until a friend told me about lash lifts here and I had to check it out. I'm on my 3rd one and I'm in love. Kimmie had us start with a medium mold, it was a perfect starting point to see if we wanted to go bigger or smaller in the future. In today's appointment, we tried the large mold and I'm completely in love. It has that swooping curl that lifts and brightens my fatigued mama face. I literally woke up like this. Now I just need to find someone to reverse my dark eye circles, ha! The actual process for the lash lift is easy. Just lay back and close your eyes. They clean and then stick the molds to your eyelids. Then they mold your lashes to it and wait for it to set (this is when I do my brow tint, during the lash setting time). Afterwards they clean you up and you're good to go! I love that Kimmie monitors the lift process, to make sure it's developing the way she wants and that lashes are curling the right direction along the right areas of your lash line. What I love most is that they're my natural lashes and that it requires basically no upkeep. I have a diverse lifestyle, from city to the forest. I like that I can still look great outdoors but also not think twice about washing my face in a river after a tough backpacking summit. I love that I can wake up and feel instantly beautiful because my morning beauty routine has been taken hostage by my mini-me's morning routine. Results timeline changes from person-to-person, obviously. Skin type, upkeep, lifestyle. My lash lift stays perfect for 3 weeks, remains curled for another 2 (with a little less lift) and by week 6, I'm definitely needing to come in for a re-up. I'm a big fan of the brow tint, Kimmie matches my color really well. Even after 2 weeks, when I have to start supplementing with my own makeup, it's quick because I have a guide to follow. Because let's be honest, this mama doesn't have time to go in every two weeks. Kimmie is a perfectionist with an eye for detail, something that's great when it's coming to any service on your face. She stands by her work and the work of her staff. If you have questions or want something adjusted, just let them know! Since we tried a different lash lift size, she told me I could come back in a week, in case I wanted to adjust it. That's fine customer service right there. Lets talk about the space. It's central, has a parking lot and is ridiculously beautiful inside. It's like you walked into a magazine ad. There is something wonderful about a bright and elegant space when you're doing a beauty service. It's difficult for me to see upset reviews about their cancellation policy. One that is clearly stated on their website and at their place of business. One that is also, very common. I can't help but wonder, if it's because the staff is so friendly here, that customers expect to be treated as friends. We have to remember that small businesses are just that, businesses. It is not fair to pass the consequences of a last minute cancellation, onto them financially. Lastly, I know this seems small but I love that you can text them to schedule appointments or cancel. Sometimes jumping online to go through the booking system or making a phone call doesn't fit into your schedule. It's really convenient to have this option with them. (brow lam, tint, shape & lash lift tint, botox) There's no overselling, no pushiness. They are not a full-service salon but their specialization means they can do what they do with excellence. I was finally able to go and see my favorite lash ladies over at Miss Knockout ! I adore all the ladies there and I've known Kimmie the owner for about 8 years- she is amazing! I had a full set done, brows laminated & lower lash tint with Adrienne, everything was perfect! I felt safe, and comfortable, everyone is practicing best protocols for social distancing & wearing a mask. My lashes are glorious, and my brows look amazing, felt so good to have this service again! It took several times of going back-and-forth to get my eyebrows to be the right shape, I'm still not 100% happy with the shape but overall they look good, I honestly can't complain. As for the hybrid tint, it lasted about three days and looked glorious but after that my eyebrows look about the same as before my appointment which is slightly disappointing. Overall experience was great, but the longevity of the product leaves a lot to be desired. I don't think I can justify the amount of money spent to have 3 days of good looking eyebrows. Perhaps their products aren't suitable for darker skin tones. read more

I am pretty new to the false lash game. I'm getting married in November so I've been trying out some new looks this past year. I got some fake lashes done in LA before coming up to Portland for my bachelorette party but the lady I went to did a horrible job. They started falling out within 2 days. Desperate to keep my big eye'd glow through the weekend, I went to Miss Knockout for some lash TLC. Oh my gosh, they did such a good job! The technician (Chelsey I think) saved my face and made me look 1000x better than the originally lady did. I loved them so much I went back the next week and got them filled. I've come to Miss Knockout for a long to get my brows waxed and for facials. This time I decided to try MK's Lash Lift, which consists of an eyelash perm and lash tint to not only curl the lashes, but make them look even more visible and bold. The entire process was painless, relaxing and only took about an hour. Kimmie walked me through every step as she proceeded and recommended the type of curl for the look I was after (you can either get a tighter curl for more drama, or less curl for a natural look). She also gave me a jet black lash tint to make my lashes pop and look fuller. At the end of it, I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful my lashes looked and how much they made my eyes pop! I have very thin, straight lashes, and really couldn't believe they could look as good as they did after Kimmie worked her magic. It was unreal and eye-opening! (Pun intended.) I would recommend any service that the Miss Knockout team provides and I want to thank them for making each experience of mine AMAZING! read more

Message to the owner; Hi Kimmie, Thank you so much for making an effort to respond to most of the Yelp reviews your business receives; it shows that you truly value what your customers think of you and your business in general. Instead of "simply picking up the phone" to voice the lash fallout concern, I simply texted (really cool that we can text your business btw) and asked if lash fallout was normal after one week, to which someone responded with "yes". Cool. I waited 10 months to post my review mainly because I wanted to try different lash places before comparing them. Some lash places had higher quality glue that held the lashes better and some didn't. Yours didn't. The lady at Spades may have been trained at Miss Knockout but she does quality work on her own.
