I been coming to Misako for many years and this place never disappoints. The ramens are THE BEST! in the area hands down. Lived in the area for 8 years and no other place comes close to the deliciousness of their Miso Ramen. If you love anime, anime music or anything asian cuisene you owe it to yourself to check the place out. The staff is always welcoming and heartwarming. Definitely come with friends and enjoy some good beers with order of gyoza and the amazing ramen selection. For my military folks in the area , they are quick with the orders so nice place to swing by during lunch and make it back before Chief yells at you. For a while, I've seen posts from fellow Yelpers who've dined here. The food always looked good and I haven't noticed major negative reviews. Sophia and I drove from the Peninsula to see if the trek was worth the experience. We were greeted by one of the hostesses and seated immediately. Around the dining area, the decor is covered with anime material. From artwork to figurines to even them showing an anime movie, it's pretty neat especially if you're a fan. And foot traffic started to pick up after we got seated. Great timing for the both of us. After a few minutes, we were ready to order. For apps, we picked Age Dashi Tofu. This one took a minute because I'm used to soft tofu, but the mid-firm was fine. Each piece was fried nicely with each ingredient working together. For my main dish, I chose one of their specials, szechuan style spicy beef noodle (ramen). Very good stuff. The beef shank was cooked perfectly along with good amount of bok choy and scallions for the veggie portion. At first, I worried about the spice level, but it was mild and not having yours truly cough up a storm. All in all, a great experience at such a quaint spot. I went here back when it was still at Lohman's plaza. I didn't even realize they had opened up shop here near Chick's beach until I came for dinner with friends. It's small with lots of anime decor. Love that. The servers were all so friendly and didn't rush us even though it was a Friday evening. The grilled squid was tasty and usually not on a non AYCE menu. The wings came in 6 and I am so glad it wasn't drenched in a sauce. It can become overwhelming depending on the sauce. That said, we got sushi rolls and ramen bowls. Soft shell crab was my protein of choice as I have never seen that as an option with a ramen bowl around here. I love soft shell . I ate it quickly so the broth didn't make it soggy. We ended it with a fried cheesecake to share and celebrate our belated and upcoming birthdays. Love this place. I have been coming to Misako for some time now and have yet to leave a review. So, here we go. I love their seafood ramen and red miso ramen, delicious. My go to dish is the Hong Kong Style Chajang Mein. It is a beautiful plate of noodles topped with sweet and spicy ground pork that is topped with green onions. There is also a generous serving of bok choy that is nestled on the side of the plate. This dish comes with small bowl of what I believe to be miso soup with a hint of sesame oil. Delicious. The description on the menu states that the dish is sweet and spicy, it is mostly sweet. I recently tried their fried rice with shrimp. That dish is big enough for two or three people. I will say that it was a bit greasy for my taste, but I didn't dislike it. I LOVE their ebi appetizer (4pc). This is shrimp wrapped in potato and I believe it to be deep fried. Their harumaki (2pc). This is their ground beef and veggies spring roll that is deep fried. Takoyaki (6pc). Delicious balls filled with octopus, covered with Japanese mayo and eel sauce and then it is topped with bonito flakes. It is such a treat when the dish is served because it is soft, a little gooey and full of flavor. I have been waiting to try Misako since I moved to Virginia Beach close to 6 months ago. The fact that they have both sushi and ramen drew me towards this place. Location is easy to access, but nothing that really brings you in. It's located in a strip mall off of Shore Drive with lots of parking. Inside, it is anime-themed, with lots of anime decor and memorabilia along with anime playing on the TV. Not my thing, but it was obvious that it is a reason other people frequent this establishment. We came in for a late lunch during the week on a Thursday. We planned ahead to avoid Wednesday because it is posted on their door that they don't offer sushi on Wednesdays. Very unfortunately, they apparently also don't offer sushi whenever the sushi chef leaves for a few hours, which just happened to be when we came in. We weren't told this before being sat, but instead figured it out after NOT being given a sushi menu. When we asked, they let us know that he stepped out for a bit but we could wait an hour if we wanted sushi... this was quite a disappointment for us hence the 3 star review. Let's talk about the more important stuff; food. I ordered the wontons with chili oil, which were fantastic. Very spicy, but served piping hot and filled with flavor. I also got the Tonkotsu Ramen, which was also good. Compared to the places we used to frequent in Hawaii, the toppings weren't very exciting (corn and green onion), but the flavor of the broth was delicious and the pork was tender and flavorful. I would order both again. My friend got the gyoza, miso soup and the fried rice. She liked both starters, but wasn't thrilled by the fried rice. This is now my favorite ramen place in the area! After being recommended this place by my friend, I will 100% recommend this to anyone looking for ramen in Hampton Roads. The broth was the best miso broth I've ever had stateside--super rich, creamy, and very flavorful. I added a little chili oil to give it that extra kick, and it really hit the spot. You get taken to a very Asian setting as you open the door. Small place but just feels like little Tokyo. Ambience: Decor is a mix of traditional (mini tapestries of mountains and seas) and modern (anime figurines on a shelf!). There's a TV on that's streaming anime movies. For starters, interesting different items on the drinks/beverage menu: mango/melon cream soda, Japanese carbonated drink in 3 different flavors and mirin lemon tea. They offer sake 3 ways: hot, silky mild and sparkling! Your eyes move to the bottom of the drinks menu and you see dessert choices: mochi ice cream (typical Japanese offering), sesame ball (more Chinese?) and fried cheesecake (which is slightly different than typical fried ice cream). Food: 3 stars We ordered the takoyaki appetizer - grilled octopus with Bonito fish flakes. Takoyaki was evenly brown on outside but not crispy as I want it. Also too mushy instead of chunky. Best Ramen in the area. First of all, great service. The folks here were so friendly. The service is top notch, and fast. It's a small area, but plenty of seats. However, due to the tastiness, it fills up quick so plan your trip out. The Miso Ramen is fantastic. Broth is how it should be, very rich, and just yummy. The pork slices had a nice char, and also rich in flavor. Here's a tip....I ordered the spicy wonton dumplings. Holy cow, are they good!! It's the sauce. It's that chili oil that does it. So once you are done with the wontons, take that leftover sauce and pour it in your Ramen. You're welcome. The Sushi was very good, a long with the pork bun. Misako is a small Japanese udon/ramen/sushi in the middle of town and my review really centers on the Yuzu Ramen, which I've seen before but have never tried. The Yuzu ramen is really nothing different than what you'd imagine. There's a lighter broth that's cut with a citric acidic taste, so nothing too surprising. I'd say that the flavors are solid and the noodles were cooked very well but it's not something I'd try again. As for the sushi, the rolls were solid and I would recommend it to anyone needing a Japanese fix. A solid 4/4 read more

I was inspired to try this wonderful eatery by a fellow Yelp Elite Squad member located at 4701 Shore Drive and I am absolutely gobsmacked by the food, service and atmosphere. These folks are talking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously as all employees are wearing masks and gloves and they require their customers to wear a mask upon entering. It was a chilly night so we opted for some Green Tea to warm our bones while we perused the menu. PRO TIP: Take a look at the artificially adorned chalkboard, there are Special items there not found on on the regular menu. We made our selections and the food started coming to promptly. We didn't order the Takoyaki but it arrived anyway. I asked the server what it was and I told her that we did not order that. She apologized and asked me to try it. WOW, this was amazing. It is 6 pieces of Deep fried Wheat Flour Batter filled with Diced Octopus, drizzled with Japanese Mayonnaise, Eel Sauce and topped with Bonito flakes for $6.95. The Bonito Flakes makes the dish "come alive" as they are so light, it looks like the food is moving. Once I took my first bite I realized that the "mistake" was mine for not ordering this in the first place. I politely asked to be charged for this wonderful creation but that request was refused. I will definitely order this on my next visit. The Gyoza came out piping hot and they were delicious for $5.95 for 6 pieces. They were filled with chicken and cabbage and they were fried to a golden brown on one side, just the way that I like them. My Wife tried the Misako BBQ Short Ribs for $8.95 and she really enjoyed them. I had the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup on the Special Chalkboard for $11.95. This bowl of wonderful was incredible. It is Szechuan Style (spicy) Beef Broth with thin Rice Noodles, Bok Chou, Cilantro, Scallions and Beef Shank. All of the flavors worked very well together to make this one terrific bowl of soup. The scallions provided a wonderful crunch and mouth feel that just added to the depth of this dish. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Misako because everything was so good. I've had Gyudon from several different restaurants in the area, and this is by far the best one I've had. The meat is perfectly, thinly cut. There is just the right amount of meat, onions and broth for the amount of rice given. The other places I've been to give a ton of rice with very little meat. Proportion is way off. I usually have to request extra broth too. I've never eaten inside of the establishment, so I can't speak on that. Their to-go is on point though. Food is ready when they say it'll be ready, I've never had to wait. They are packaged well in Styrofoam containers wrapped in a plastic bag. The only con, they're located on Shore Drive...I live near Landstown, so about a 25 min drive. But worth it! Hopefully they expand and open other locations closer to me. =) read more

This quaint mom and pop style Japanese restaurant is located in the shopping plaza near Kroger, UPS Store and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Parking is limited as its shared with the neighboring shops. You'll find an array of items to order so if someone in your group has food limitations or preferences, you should be able to accommodate everyone. Lunch time has a bustling group of people who are regulars and of course new comers. The food is made to order and arrived to the table piping hot as desired. I liked everything! The ramen was actually spicy exactly how I wanted it. It doesn't get spicer and spicier it stays at the same heat level. We got the wings and calamari. The calamari was surprisingly authentic and delicious. It was crispy and flavorful with real squid. The miso soup was very clear and not much in it except it was full of flavor & didn't need anything else. Chicken Katsu Curry was also good and loved the sauce. The ground beef and noodle dish with Bokchoy with egg noodles was surprisingly sweet and filling. Loved that everything was delicious and the service was great.
