She's always been just a 5-minute drive from my place. Today, I decided to follow Grace from Fort Mill to her new salon, Salon 131, in lovely downtown Matthews. (Of course, I had to follow Grace! She's a treasure.) The drive was a quick 30 minutes from Fort Mill, and the salon is nestled right in the heart of downtown Matthews. It's right next to a café and surrounded by restaurants and local shops. I'm already excited to explore the area more when I visit next. The salon itself was welcoming and spacious, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Today, Grace gave me the works--full highlights and a haircut! I left feeling so cute, lighter, and like I'd turned back the clock ten years. Grace is such a genuine, kind, and down-to-earth person. She really listens and knows exactly what my hair needs. Plus, she cares deeply about me and my family. As a 55-year-old with fine, thinning hair, I'm very picky about hairstylists. I want someone who listens but who also knows the latest styles and trends. With Grace, I get all that and more. She has done a stellar job dialing in my hair color and also providing me with a true relaxing spa experience while I'm there (I have 3 young boys, so peaceful experiences are worth their weight in gold!). Tabitha has recommended products that have steadily improved my hair growth. But the real value has been in the tips and tricks she has taught me: how to dry my hair without damaging the ends so much, what brushes to use on my fragile hair, why not to go to bed with wet hair, and how to style my hair with beachy waves and have it actually hold longer than 5 minutes! Where were all these tips in the earlier part of my adulthood?!? And if that weren't enough, you can also have her prepare an at-home root color touch up kit, to help keep the grays away between appointments. After receiving haircuts…read morefor myself and my daughter, the salon later attempted to retroactively charge us more because of our hair type--something they were fully aware of before the appointment. I had even provided photos of my daughter's hair in advance, so there was no surprise or misunderstanding. Further, the "master" stylist was very rude and accusatory when he approached me about retroactively charging us. Mind you he was the one I showed the pictures to, as well as the one who submitted the payment slips to the young women at the front desk. Changing prices after the fact is unfair and unacceptable. It also raises serious concerns about discriminatory pricing practices. Customers deserve transparency and honesty, not hidden or after-the-fact charges. I would not recommend this salon to anyone who values professionalism, fairness, and respect.

I was especially happy that my hair was still soft shiny and manageable afterwards.
