I booked it as exactly that, confirmed it again at check-in, and when asked to come back for a wash, said no -- my hair was already clean and ready for "dry styling". I asked for a smooth, corporate look and shared usually it was done with a round-brush technique. The blowout and straightening were great. At checkout, I was charged full wash-and-blowout price. Why? "A hair dryer was used" -- not my job to determine your tools. The receptionist then glanced at the clock and told me dry styling is a "20-minute service," though it's listed as 30 minutes on their website. My receipt shows I was well under even that, despite the extended conversation it took to justify charging me for a 45-minute wash-and-dry I never received. Nobody flagged an issue with my request before, during, or after the service -- only at checkout. I tipped my stylist because her work was excellent; this isn't on her. If you book "dry styling" here, get the price in writing first. They lost a repeat customer over a $20 difference. Honestly, the invented "20-minute" line is what really did it -- that's what gave me the ick.

I went with it, not thinking anything the quality would have changed much. The hair wash was fine, but she gave me a wet cut so I didn't notice the way she had cut. She also did a blowout with a curl so I didn't see the blunt, unblended layers. Again, I just asked for a very small trim; a "dusting" of the ends she called it. The stylist proceeded to take chunks out of my hair and shorten the length by 2+ inches at the bottom. The shortest layers are 1 inch above the rest of my hair; not blended. I am very disappointed and embarrassed as this is the worst haircut I have ever received. The haircut is reminiscent of a jellyfish; certainly not what I wanted. It's a good thing I can still pull my hair into a ponytail.

I returned and brought it up to the girl at the front desk who sold the items. After staring at her computer for a good 15 minutes, she told me "I didn't return your tax because tax is not refunded on returned merchandise." When I asked her if she honestly thought customers still pay taxes on items they have returned, she looked frazzled and spent another 10-15 minutes on her computer trying to come up with an answer. When she realized I wasn't going to just walk away and let her keep the tax amount, she said "Ok, I'll refund your tax" as if she's doing me a huge favor and making an exception. But even then she gave no receipt for the returns. When I asked for a receipt, she told me: "We don't give receipts on returned items. They're given only for sold items." I asked if she had a pen and paper. She said yes, and just stared at me. So I said, Can you write on a piece of paper that I returned these items and am due a refund? By this time, visibly fed up with her customer asking for something I should have received without asking, she writes on a Post-It note pad "Items returned 8/22." After my experience, I was surprised to see the additional tax actually refunded on my credit card. I was honestly expecting a few more back & forth discussions that led nowhere. What should have been a simple return became an unnecessarily aggravating experience with someone who clearly needs training and basic common sense, like merchant can't keep the tax charged on returned items, or that a customer needs to be provided proof of return. Just goes to show your employees can cost you much more than you realize. They lost my business for good. I'm new in the area and was looking for a new hairdresser but given my experience, there is zero chance I'll ever step foot in this place again.

She does a fabulous job every time. She is a great stylist and a really kind person as well. She's very laid back, relaxed and is not loud or boisterous. She is easy to talk to and to converse with. Her prices are very good too, better than the salons in Willis. I highly recommend her for women and men. She used to cut my son's hair as until he relocated to a different city. She always did a really good job on his hair as well. Switch Hair Studio is a very cute place. There are lots of older furnishings and decorative items in the shop, like kind of an art deco/Frank Lloyd Wright vibe. It is really interesting to look at all of the items and reminisce about seeing similar items in my childhood home. The shop is always neat and clean. I am depressed and physically disabled (and was recovering from a major surgery at the time), so I had been unable to do the usual upkeep necessary for my hair with any kind of regularity. Ms. Marchel did it BY HERSELF, MUCH FASTER (an hour and a half MAX for detangling, shampooing, conditioning, detangling again, drying, another quick detangle, and the silk press itself), didn't charge me extra for the texture of the hair that naturally grows out of my scalp (as so many salons around here do... iykyk ), didn't complain at all or guilt me, was professional, and did a damn good job! My sew-in experience was tragic to put it lightly. The appointment started off well. I brought in 2 bundles of hair. The stylist said she would color it to match my hair color. She colored 1 bundle of the hair. During my appointment, one of her friends/clients came in to discuss a style she was planning to get the following week. Although this salon is marketed as a private setting, this client/friend was allowed to sit and talk during the duration of my appointment. As she was sewing the tracks, she would continue to look at her phone. I'm not sure if she was looking at directions on how to do a sew in or what. When my hair was done, I informed her that I'd like it cut to resemble my natural hair length. Once I left the salon, I saw where tracks were visible at the top (she had to see this before I left), so I went back and she attempted to fix it. Once I got home, not only could I still see tracks at the top, but thread was popping out in the back and a track that was not sewn down was also sticking out. I sent her a picture and she told me to either cut it or Bobby pin it until the next time I return to the salon. The next day (Sunday), I had to get the sew in taken out by someone else because it was falling apart. It was the worst $200 job ever. She did not even cut the tracks to fit naturally. She simply rolled them on top of each other, which made it extremely bulky and impossible to lay flat. I sent her a text that Monday informing her that I had to get the sew-in removed. She never replied. A simple acknowledgement or sorry would have sufficed. For that reason, I realized this is not the stylist for me.
