The staff was very helpful, and my colorist was extremely kind--despite being pregnant, she was full of energy. There are a one small details that should be corrected. For example, when you ask for a blow-dry, Luz seems hesitant to ask who her client is. There should be a board or some kind of system to notify the stylists who the client is. Other than that, Luz did an awesome job with my hair, and I will definitely come back again.

You do your…read morebest research, hoping whoever you pick will do a good job... or at least not completely mess it up! A few weeks ago, I was going through the same process... looking up "best salons" and doing my best to find pictures and reviews of individual stylists - trying to pick a "good" one before I called to see if they were available. I was calling on Thursday, getting ready to leave on vacation the following Monday. We were planning a photo shoot the next week, so I was taking a HUGE risk going to get my hair done right before our trip, and with someone who I had never worked with. I called many places, but naturally, some of their master stylist were booked till the end of time, so there was no way I would see them last minute. I finally stumbled on Shag Spa and Salons. They've been in the Woodlands 11 years, and had many different stylists. I looked through their reviews, and further researched any stylists I thought might work for me. Enter Alex! First of all, I was so happy to see she had an IG page with her previous clients before and afters (@alexatshag). Because I couldn't assume her skill based on her years of work (as compared to a master stylist), I needed to see what she had done in the past in order for me to feel comfortable enough to sit in her chair. I've had some awful hair experiences (as many of you have), so needless to say, I was very nervous! I wanted a soft balayage and a trim with some face framing pieces. Simple, yet considering the circumstances, it could have been a disaster! I called Shag to start asking my questions.. Alex heard the receptionist doing her best to answer, and eventually got on the phone so we could talk. I poured my nervous heart out to her ( I really want this, but I'm scared!) Haha. She listened to what I wanted, explained her process, and opened up her schedule on her day off so we could get er done. I met her early the next morning, and before she did anything, we sat and talked and looked at pictures and she again further explained her plan. At this point, all I could do was sit back, let go and enjoy the process (literally - I love my hair being played with!). Alex was AMAZING. She took her time, talked through what she was doing with me, answered all of my nervous questions, and was SO sweet and happy the whole time. She mentioned she loves what she does, and you could feel it - she genuinely enjoyed painting my hair and styling it! The results speak for themselves. At the end (this took several hours), we were both so genuinely pleased, and I was pretty much shocked at HOW good it came out. I've never had my hair look like this before! She was so excited at how great it looked - it made me feel even better about what I had come in for! I mean, I knew I liked it, but when your stylist is sincerely stoked at how great it looks, you know you did well!! I am SO happy Shag was here for me, and that someone like Alex works for them - I have been in the Woodlands two years, and have finally found my hair stylist!! I absolutely LOVE my hair.. Thank you so much, Alex!! (I didn't have great before pictures, but the afters are fantastic!)

If u checkin while you're there cut is $17 w a $3 coupon from yelp. Staff was friendly & kind to my child. Upon entering there are games & books to entertain kids while they wait & seats are miniature barber seats w/seat belts. There's a tv at each station that plays a corporate-made cartoon, animal crackers, and dum-dum lollipops to entertain /distract the child. Haircut was decent. I wanted a trim around my son's bowl cut look focusing around the ears, back of head, & bangs slightly above the eyebrows. The total truth: Layers weren't evenly cut if you looked at both sides individually & compared, the bangs weren't even, nor above eyebrows as I would have liked, higher on one corner than the other, and the back was mostly even (any mishaps not casually visual). TO BE FAIR TO STYLISTS, he is a squirmy kid & there ARE scissors in his face so caution IS a priority. The stylist was patient & kind. She DID ask me if it was satisfactory & I DID say yes. It's the same at any place that will cut a toddlers hair. At other places, Under scrutiny, I have had to inspect then retouch multiple times until I caught all those little things that I wanted to be perfect. He's squirmy-the stylists' concern is your child's safety first so we must be accommodating. The only way we have ever been able to get my child's hair "perfect" was if I held his head down for the detailed & final touches. A satisfying first experience, no complaints & I am mostly likely coming back for other cuts.

I appreciate her getting us in last minute but the haircuts was beyond awful. My…read moredaughter's hair is about an inch longer on one side, and there are lots of hairs that didn't get cut. The front section is much longer than the back section. I have never seen anything like this. It looked fine walking out because I couldn't really tell how crooked it was because she braided the front section, but then once we got home I brushed it and could instantly see it. My son's haircut started out pretty bad because the clippers being used on him were pulling his hair out because they weren't sharp. (And they were probably not cleaned well) His skin instantly turned red and he was shaking it hurt him so much, and the lady cutting his hair finally got a different pair of clippers after I said something (after trying to tell me that it couldn't be hurting him because of the guard). Those clippers didn't hurt. My son does have some sensory issues, but after so many haircuts, I have never seen his skin turn red from clippers, and it certainly hasn't ever been painful for him. When I told my husband about it, he was like "oh yeah if they aren't cleaned or if they aren't sharp, they will pull on the hair. She went and cut another little boy's hair after and he was also screaming, but since he wasn't even 2, he couldn't tell them it was hurting, so I'm sure they assumed he was just scared. After getting home and looking at his hair closer, the line she cut on his neck is slanted. I am SO disappointed that we paid nearly $60 (including tip) for these cuts, and they look like this. As someone who worked in the salon/spa business for 13 years before staying at home with my kids, I would normally call and ask them to fix this. But it is nearly 40 minutes from my house, and we leave for vacation tomorrow. So my husband will try to fix the line on my son's neck, and I am going to try to straighten my daughter's hair out, or she will just be wearing a pony tail until we can get it fixed later this month. **Oh! Also, the address on Yelp is not correct. It is 15 minutes from this address (on the other side of 45 near party city. There is NO SIGN on the building for Sharkey's.) I am bummed there aren't more places to take my kids for a haircut here. Guess they will just have to go to a regular salon and barber shop.
