Located off 5th street , matter of fact the park used to be known as "5th Street Park", it has undergone three name changes. The park is both Dog Friendly and Pedestrian Friendly. This park has a genuinely nice children playground that is shaded with large mature trees. This is important to me and has several benches to sit down. The park is a good size, now double in size since when the City of Plantation acquired the Elks Club back in the early 2000's . There are nice walking trails and bathroom facilities too. Along the walking trails and surrounding the Gazebo you will find dedication bricks throughout. A brick can be personalized and installed for approximately $125.00. The squirrels that live there never go hungry as I see people all the time feeding them peanuts. If you are in the area, Rae Carol Armstrong Liberty Tree Park is absolutely worth a visit.

In 1976 an Oak Tree was planted in the park to honor the Liberty Tree in Boston that was planted in 1646. In 2009 the park name was changed to the Rae Carole Armstrong Liberty Tree Park after Rae Carole Armstrong who was mayor of Plantation from 1999-2011. In 2003 4.9 additional acres of parkland were purchased from the Elk Club expanding the park to it's current total of 9.28 acres. Through the years the members of the Junior Woman's Club have donated the signature white gazebo, brick ways, and statues for the park. In 2007 a push was made to make the park environmentally friendly and green. A comfort station, recycled plank fencing, benches, solar powered lighting and bathroom fixtures, and a bike rack were added as part of this project. This is a wonderful neighborhood park for the City of Plantation. During my visit I saw a lot of families enjoying the playground and green space in the park. There is a walking/jogging path for exercise that winds through the park. Every November the Plantation Junior Woman's Club hosts the Art in the Park event. It's an arts and crafts show and this year they have added food and alcohol vendors as well. The date for this years event is November 10 and 11.

Deicke was a philanthropist who gave money to people and organizations in need in Illinois where he grew up, and Broward County, where he and his wife Lois built a home in Plantation in 1961. As a young man he wasn't able to afford to go to college but he became successful in the insurance business eventually becoming president of the country's oldest insurance company. He amassed a fortune and used it to help others before he retired to Florida. In Plantation some of the beneficiaries of his generosity were students at Plantation and South Plantation High Schools who received scholarships to go to college. Edwin F. Deicke passed away after a long illness in 1984. His wife Lois continued to give money to the causes they supported after his death. Deicke Park is a tranquil neighborhood park. It has a half-mile jogging trail with exercise equipment designed for use by the general public and people who are physically challenged. Other park amenities include two hard court tennis courts, a sand volleyball pit, a basketball court, picnic tables and open play areas. There is also a shaded playground for toddlers and older children. The park pavilion can be rented for parties, picnics and family gatherings. Restrooms are open only during the day. Although I enjoyed the exercise path, my favorite part of the park was discovering the nests of burrowing owls near the sand volleyball court. Burrowing owls are considered endangered, threatened or of special concern in nine U.S. states. Unlike other owls, they are not strictly nocturnal and are active during the day. They make their nests in underground burrows, which are dug out by ground squirrels and they prefer open grasslands. They are pretty timid and will pop back into their burrows if you approach but I managed to catch sight of one little fellow. The park was very busy during my visit. People were walking on the exercise path, playing volleyball, basketball, and tennis, and watching their kids play on the playground. Deicke is a great recreational resource for the Plantation community. Come visit Deicke Park anytime from dawn to dusk.

This park has everything you could ask for in a neighborhood park; wide open spaces for soccer or football practice, a nice, often shady, path for walking, biking, or jogging, 2 tennis courts, a volleyball area, a covered pavilion, and a playground. (Right now the playground is closed off & the picnic tables under the pavilion have been removed because of the pandemic.). There's still plenty of reasons to go to this cute, little neighborhood park and spend some time outdoors!

This park has picnic shelters and a playground with shade cover with an adjacent bathroom. The athletic fields are immaculate. They have four baseball/ softball fields, one football field that can also be used for lacrosse with stadium seating, a running track, and two artificial turf fields. There is a concession stand by the fields and more bathrooms. The fields have night lighting so games can be held in the evening. There is even a roller hockey rink. Dogs are allowed at the park as long as they are on a leash no longer than six feet. This is a wonderful park to exercise, participate in or watch a game, or just to take the kids to play.

Park amenities include a quarter mile exercise trail with fitness stations. There are also two basketball courts, a 100 square foot picnic shelter, and a shaded playground. There is a large open field for play and exercise. The park has many large native shade trees. Close to the street part of the park is fenced off and there is a large mound of dirt peeking over the top of the fence. There is some unsightly garbage and debris on the ground behind the fence. It is not keeping with the strict city code enforcement which keeps Plantation looking stellar.. Hope they clean it up and finish whatever they are doing soon.

A large exterior fence surrounds the park which seems unusual compared to the the typical open Florida park but when I found out the park has a pool it makes sense. They need to keep it extra secure to make sure kids don't get in and possibly drown. The pool area has an additional fence around it. The pool is open Monday to Friday: 2:00pm to 6:30pm, Saturday: 10:00am to 4:00pm, and closed Sunday. There is a discounted admission for Lauderhill residents. Group and private swim lessons are offered throughout the year. Other park amenities include rest room, sand volleyball court, sports fields, batting cage, benches, center with recently updated indoor gym and meeting rooms, and picnic pavilions with grill. There is also a public art piece celebrating the sacrifices of veterans. This park serves as a community gathering place for people to exercise, play, and picnic. It is wonderful that the city is promoting swim lessons for the residents of Lauderhill.
