I was there about four weeks ago. I was told that I was in line to get a haircut along with my son. We waited for hours, my son got his haircut. They told me I'll have to come back another day. This was right after they told multiple people to leave, and took many people before me and I was there first. The last time I went to Mirage for a haircut was my final visit there. Because they kept allowing friends of the barbers there to come in and go straight to the head of the line, I got knocked out my place in line 4 different times from 4 different walk-in customers and because of this it took me 4 hours to finally get a haircut. But then it got worse; my barber didn't listen to any of my instructions or wishes and he just cut my hair how he felt like it. That wouldn't have been as bad if he had done a good job, but it was more like it was the guy's first day on the job and he had no training at all. However he cut my hair it made no sense and I have to wait to go to a different place to get my haircut fixed. I gave the guy a tip out of habit and he didn't even say thank you to me. In fact after being a customer there for a while, this time I felt like they didn't want me there at all and that they didn't want me to return. No problem, I will not return. read more

Finally got a chance to get a cut here. I live close by and would see that it is always busy. But today I beat the crowds and got there. You take a number and I maybe waited 15 minutes if that. There were about 4-5 barbers working and eventually, my number was called. There is a little language barrier but the barber did a very good job. I commented on my cowlick and he said he has the Sam issue and gave me pointers to take this sticky up places on my head. He also pulled out the string to do rogue hairs and my eyebrows. Mirage Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Mirage has to be the right way to describe this place, because it definitely is not a barbershop. I came in with a specific style in mind (I even brought picture), and left with a totally messed up cut. This is not the first time, I gave it another chance and they did me wrong again. The barber I went to made it seem like he did not know what he was doing. Three times I had to remind him to do things that are normal for barbers to do (my brother is a barber in another state). He asked another barber to chime in on our conversation, and the other barber made it seem like I was being unruly. I ended up paying $35 for the cut. The most serious issue in this is that the shop seems to not understand Black hair nor want to learn how to cut it. I would not be surprised to know that none of them have licenses from accredited places here in Michigan. Even though not one of the barbers is white, you can see the stress in their eyes when they have a Black client in their chair. You can tell this is just a job for these folks, not a passion nor an art. All in all, if you are a Black person with hair longer than a .5 inch, do not come here. My barber shop for 10+ years, I won't go anywhere else. The barber's are great, Alex is my personal go to, he remembers your cut and is spot on every time. Place is always clean as well. If anything, the wait can be long (but worth it) so you might want to call ahead to see what kind of wait there is if you wait for a particular barber. The best around!!! read more

This is the only barber I will take my son to now. The barbers are excellent. I have tried many salons and by far this has been the best one. Haircuts for kids are only $10. I used to have a lot of difficulty finding someone that did a great job on my son's hair before coming here. If you have multiracial boys this is THE place that knows what they are doing when it comes to cutting curly hair. In fact they do a great job on people with all hair types too. They are miraculous with the clippers and the scissors. After you leave I highly recommend having tacos next door at Tmaz. read more

Waited 1 hour to be seated (almost) by someone who was asked if they know how to cut with scissors by the other barbers! They asked him if he knew how to do well with longer hair (hair went to eyelashes) and scissors before seating me, luckily that didn't go through someone else was ahead of me. Anyways I got seated with someone else, we agreed for him to take off an inch off the top. Next thing you know 3 inches are gone (my hair isn't long as it is) And he cut straight across, make a nice horizontal line across my forehead. I went here with a friend based on his suggestion that it was good service and an affordable haircut. Originally the closing time was 8pm so we went at 7pm assuming that we would both be able to get a haircut. When we arrived, there was a short wait so we both got a ticket to wait in line, but one of the employees told us that they were done taking people for the night. Bummed, we started out and before we got in our car, the guy came and said he could take one of us. I ended getting my hair cut and I have to say that the overall haircut was pretty decent, however a few other things really bothered me. The guy who cut my hair used a straight razor at the end to "clean up" a few hairs such as the back of my neck and side-burns, however he was a little too rough and actually cut me in two places. I thought it was unnecessary at the time but didn't say anything due to a language barrier. He did a good job with fading the sides and back, but he cut the top a little too short (I part my hair to the side on the top). Based on the actual haircut I would give this place a 3.5/5, but the reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because they told my friend that they didn't have time to cut his hair, however during the time I was there, several other employees were sitting around not occupied with anyone, and the manager actually took in other customers that arrived after us. That's an inconsiderate way to treat your customers. The other main reason is that I think the conversation with your stylist and hospitality of is part of the overall experience of getting your hair cut. That's definitely another area Mirage can work on. I recognize that's not a priority for everyone but that's my experience at Mirage and why I probably won't be coming here in the future. However if you're just looking for a no-frills, low-cost haircut, this place is an option. read more

I've been looking for a regular barber for my boys and myself for years. I came to Mirage on a friend's recommendation about 4 months ago and have been coming every month ever since. It's the only place my boys and I go. All the barbers seem to be good and everyone seems to have their favorite or regular barber. I highly recommend Alex as he cuts my hair and my two boys. But as I mentioned all the barbers seem extremely skilled cutting a diverse hair types. read more

I'm very picky when it comes to selecting a barbershop or salon that I will go to for a haircut, but after asking a few of my friends where I could get a fade in Ann Arbor, I was steered in the direction of Mirage. I must have been lucky because I didn't have to wait at all when I went. Upon walking in the door, I was immediately guided to an available chair by an older gentleman, who was also my barber. I told him what I was looking for, just a simple fade, and the degrees of how I wanted my fade to look, and he obliged, understood, and went straight to work. He took excellent care of me and really did a great job. It took less than 30 minutes, and the price was not bad - $15 for a cut. AB is one of the best I've come across. I'm not from Ann Arbor, visiting from out of state. Needed a haircut but from someone who knew exactly what I wanted and did it perfect. I've been looking for a regular barber shop for a long time. Today I stopped in as a walk-in less and in than five minutes I was getting a haircut. You never know what's going to happen when you try a new barbershop but I was long overdue. I'd walked past a few times after getting some proper Mexican food next-door so I figure I could kill two birds with one stone today. The end result was a great haircut at half the cost I was paying at a salon. I know the business is listed as unisex but when I walked in there were around 10 to 15 men waiting to get their haircut. To me it has the feel of a barbershop for men which is exactly what I was looking for. I was very nervous about taking my son to a barber shop with the Covid still going around, however Mirage and the barbers here put my mind at ease. As soon as you walk in they take your temp and you have to apply hand sanitizer. Employees and all clients have this process. They also have masks for you if you don't have one. All chairs are 6ft apart. I didn't wait at all, put my son right in the chair and was there for maybe all of 20-30 mins. Not to mention the prices are amazing and reasonable. Everyone there is friendly and takes great care of their customers. We have officially found our new barber shop! read more

If your looking for a very low qaulity haircut for an average price this is the spot for you. Went there for an easy crew cut and the "barber" who was ordering his lunch for 5 minutes on and off during my haircut. It looked fine but he pulled out a bunch of hairs doing his terrible hair cutting techniques and now my hair looks receding almost and its not. Your money will be MUCH more well spent somewhere else and your head wont still hurt two days post haircut from ripping hairs out of my temple area. Mediocre, dirty, and old place and equipment.
