Absolutely terrible experience. Koda was extremely rude and demeaning during my visit. When I tried to explain what I wanted, I honestly felt like I was being bullied rather than listened to. At the end, I was delivered a very bad haircut unlike what I showed in the sample pictures. It really could not get any worse. read more

Excellent! Best haircut I've had in a long time! Brook was busy, but fit me in at the end of his day. Loves what he does and is genuinely a great guy. I appreciate you! Best wishes in all you do! read more

A really excellent, old-school barber shop in the beautiful setting of Nickels Arcade. The owner is progressive and welcoming, the staff diverse and talented, the atmosphere relaxed. Prices are more than competitive for this area. read more

Took my two little boys - 2.5 yrs and 11mths - here for haircuts. Positives: the staff is very nice and very patient; haircuts were good. Negative: all nearby parking is meters or parking garage; both boys got their hair cut in a total of 25 mins (the baby's cut lasted maybe 5 mins) and we were charged $50 for two adult cuts. Considering the average kids cut is like $15, I'd say go somewhere else. read more

Today, I went to my first barbershop in Ann Arbor and my entire life. Usually, my mom cuts my hair, but the barbers here are very skillful. In Arcade barber shop, they have one of the most cheapest costs for customers to have their hair cut. Also, their barbers are really nice to their customers and have a conversation with them comfortably. So if you ever want to go to a barbershop in Ann Arbor, go to Arcade read more

Hate to give a bad yelp review during COVID but today was the second time getting a bad haircut from Arcade. I asked for a fade and the barber took a same-length clipper (probably a 1) to buzz my sides and left it too short to fix. Aka it wasn't a fade, just a buzz. I also asked to have the top of my hair cleaned up and take an inch off, and the barber just cut my hair into a bull cut -- no texture or detail whatsoever. All in all, I'd recommend going somewhere else if you're looking for a good haircut. Spare yourself a month of regrowing your hair. read more

This place is ONLY good for simple/quick haircuts. If you want a fade, lining or anything of that sort this is NOT the place for you and if you're African-American, this place is a lost cause. I got a hair cut from here yesterday and asked for a high fade on the sides and nothing to be done to the top which had longer hair. To create the fade, the barber buzzed the majority of my hair on the sides until it was down to the scalp (he also did a bad job of this because there are still patches of short hairs in different areas of my scalp) and then tried to fade a 1cm width section of hair from the bald patch he created into the longer top section. On top of this, he cut the hair unevenly on both sides and he tried to do damage control by cutting some hair off of the top to even it out. To make it even worse he didn't even give me a proper lining. This barbers at this place are very lazy and seem to just be trying to get customers out quickly rather than take their time and take pride in their work. They don't know how to cut different hair types other than straight and overall just poorly execute different hair-cutting techniques. This place is not worth the time or the hassle and I will NOT be returning. read more

I've lived in Ann Arbor for about seven years now and I've always gone here. It's been a mixed bag as far as the haircuts themselves go, but it's cheap, the location's great, and the barbers are always very friendly and pleasant to chat with. I've generally had the best luck with Billy, I'd recommend asking for him in particular. There can be a bit of a wait sometimes so I'd recommend going during work/class hours if you can. read more

Sorry Aaron K.. You might as well screw Jim and his South U and Church barber shop because Arcade Barber and James are 10 times better. What say we battle to the death? I choose you Jamesachu! Now that I'm done battling pokemon style, how about we get to some reviewing? My story with this place starts a couple of years ago when I decided to cut my hair after 7 years of growing it out. Being black, I got scared because I had no idea how I'd find a barber that could cater to my ethnic locks. I tried going to this place on State St. that had "ethnic" in their name, but that turned out to be a load of crap! Again, I thought all was lost. But then, I happened upon a place with a black barber, Arcade Barber! Strangely enough, when I came back, he wasn't there and I had my hair cut by a white guy named James. I asked him if he knew what he was doing and he convinced me that he did. He wasn't that bad either. I gave him my $12 plus tip and I've been going there ever since. Everyone there is friendly and they always have cool stories to tell. And even if you find them to be boring, there's always a TV in the corner of the barber shop you can watch. Short waits, great service, and a guy that knows how to cut my brown ethnic curls. Almost as good as being back in DC. Ann Arbor...who woulda thunk it? read more

Standard barbershop. Quick cuts, fast turnover, and decent prices. I like my hair about .5", and I got the trimmer treatment with scissor work afterwards. It works. read more

Denise gave me a fantastic hair cut. She took her time to make sure it was just right. I highly recommend her. I also appreciated the covid precautions that were taken. My impression is that Arcade Barbers is a first class operation that excels in excellent service. read more

Tiffany was my barber. First time there. No waiting. Great haircut. Great conversation. Great price. I'm going to return.

Mel cleaned me up nice and gave me an awesome fade! I'm getting tons of compliments during my vacation in NYC. He really put time and care into my service and it was a crazy excellent value. They only take walk ins and manage to see everyone in a timely fashion. The whole staff seemed down to earth, knowledgeable and friendly, like the real Ann Arbor I know and love. read more

Arcade Barbers - Ask for Brian Caskey great job and very detailed - Barbers Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Similar to what some other reviews have said, it's alright. For a quick and simple haircut where you know exactly what you want, you'll be fine. At peak hours the wait is a little much. There seems to be a take-a-number and wait system but it's confusing. I always end up going inside and just exchanging glances with the barbers for a minute before anyone says anything, even if there's no one waiting. The barbers are all nice and talkative, but almost seem to be in their own world. Iv'e had Tiffany cut my hair twice and, considering I'm a little picky, I can't really complain much. Better than most. I think there are other places inn Ann Arbor that cost just as much, or less, and might be a little more fosforeced. I plan on trying some other one's out in the future. read more

Would like to say, as my first Yelp review, I had a great time and a great cut. I still search for a barber that can do a taper like my old barber back home but for now, I like the work they do! James took care of me and I have to say, guy is a reminder of my old barber! Shop is small and all the barber shops I see here in ann arber are the same so that is no surprise. Great location and right next to a parking garage. Was in and out in a hour. ALi read more

Great job getting me in fellas....can't remember the dudes name, but good job on the haircut...ladies be liking it...wish I could get my hair cut there every time but.....Big strong two thumbs UP!!!! If you need a cut come here as I took a chance and was NOT disappointed!!! BZ!!! read more

Like other reviewers, I've also come back and decided to give this place a second chance more than once. Every time I've come back, I've left frustrated and disappointed. The barbers don't listen to what you want. Some of them even butcher your hair and they don't care. My advice, go somewhere else for a decent haircut in Ann Arbor. read more

Hard to give it a solid rating. There are more than one barber that work at this spot and I have had my hair cut by 4 of them from what I can remember. Until today, I would have given this place a 2-3 star rating. It tends to be pretty busy on the weekend and weekday afternoons. I do not go here often as they are priced around $18-20 w/o tax, a tad on the higher side for me. Anyways, I decided to come back here today after having my friend cut my hair for the past year or so for free. I was helped by Zach. And I am very happy that he was the one that cut my hair today. I just showed him a photo of the hair style I wanted as well as how short I'd like the bottom and top with a fade between the two. He did a great job, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. So I made sure to snap some pics of it for future references in case I come in on a day he is not working. The other barbers in the place are very nice as well and all of them have plenty of business with other customers. I will most likely return to this place in the future, but will just stick with Zach as he got it right the first time and I'm going with that. I'm sure many other people who go here also have their favorite barber they go to as well from the reviews that I have read. Overall, the cut for today was $20 w/o tip since I had him style it with pomeade before I left. Thanks! read more

Whoa. Well, that was awesome. I decided to go there after recommendations from various people around the University of Michigan campus. I was hesitant at first, because I'd only gone to salons or chain haircut places like Boric's, and I didn't really trust a barber with my hair. Now I do. I'm caucasian, with medium dense, wavy hair. I went there, and saw men of various ages waiting to get their haircut. I took a number awkwardly and sat down. There were other college students there, and I soon noticed that the barber shop was very agreeable with their schedules if they had class soon, etc. So, I wanted the Mad Men style haircut, kinda like Donald Draper. I pretty much told my barber James as much, and mentioned a few other barber shop terms I knew (such as a tapered neck and natural arch), and he seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. I didn't mentioned length or anything. My haircut came out perfect, and it only took 15 minutes at the most. And it was $15. Dannnnnnggggg. Serious praise to James - I will definitely be going back again. read more

You want to avoid the black women's haircut at all cost unless you want your hair to be butchered. I was her last appointment of the afternoon and I think she just wanted to leave and half-assed my haircut. I will not be going back again. read more

The haircuts here seem kind of lazy, you know, the standard "take a variety of clipper settings" to the head. I don't get my haircut here. I go in from time to time, pay $4, for a little mid-haircut maintenance. One time, the barber took the clippers to the back of my neck and made a German expressionist painting, I swear to god. Well, almost. The other guys I see getting their haircuts never walk out looking better than they did on their way in. I guess you get what you pay for. For a few more bucks go to Church and South U. Ask for Jim. read more

First time from being new in town. Very small, little room to stand. Asked woman barber how long and she said 15 min. That works. She proceeded to hand out number tickets. I was unaware and directives to the pick up a ticket. She knew I was waiting and handed out tickets to customers that walked in after me and never offered me one. Waited a few more and said not getting my business. RUDE. read more

Best barber shop in Ann Arbor. Tiffany is a true professional. Thanks for always making sure my boys get amazing hair cuts. It takes me a long time to find a barber I trust and like. I have difficult hair and if it's not cut with care the cowlicks stick up everywhere. Tiffany and Joey know my hair and I have never had a bad haircut. The greatness of Arcade Barbers is not a secret and if you want a specific barber there's often a long wait but if you take the next available it goes pretty fast. They have a huge collection of Star Wars Lego models to view as you get your hair cut. read more

I got a haircut for $12 (including tax but not tip). Haircut turned out pretty much the way I wanted it.

Great line up of my undercut, but the barber that does designs is no longer there. The photo on here is no longer accurate for this business. read more

Fairly good place for a haircut, went only once and the barber was quite friendly. Would recommend to a friend!

So at the end of a seemingly endless search for the perfect haircut, I ended where great quests often do: right back where I started. James and Joey have both given me a couple cuts now, all great. Not that I want anything complicated, but simplicity is an art, ya' know? I enjoy the very relaxed atmosphere; it feels more like hanging out than just taking care of your scraggly self. Happy to have found a home for my hair. read more

I got my hair cut here yesterday. Best cut I've had in A2. I'll go back and that's saying a lot because I've yet to repeat visit a barber in this town. Cool little barber shop in the arcade. I dig the location. Stylists seemed chill, pleasant vibe inside. read more

Don't expect to be served here in a reasonable amount of time. Staff can vary from 4 to 1 at any given moment, and sometimes you'll wait UP TO AN HOUR AND A HALF for a barber to be available. No urgency, very unprofessional. read more

This was the worst haircut I have had in years. My barber clearly didn't listen to what I had asked for. I'd highly recommend going somewhere else. read more

Great place for your everyday haircuts. Very nice atmosphere, very welcoming barbers. Though Aveda and other fancier salons are nearby, they don't have the same draw as this simple barbershop. read more

If you want a simple haircut, this place may work. It's actually not cheaper than any other places ($15-16 for basic haircut). They are detailed about the edges, which I appreciated but my barber was not too familiar with my undercut request and cut off the top and back lengths of my hair (took four months to grow out!). They are very friendly though. read more

Arcade Barbers is in the beautiful Nickels Arcade and has some of the best barbers in Ann Arbor/SE Michigan. The overall decor reminds you of what a barber shop should be and the prices remind you of what a haircut should really cost. You may want to try fancier places for a fancier price but Arcade gives you excellent service, cuts, beard trims and conversation at a strong market rate. While you might catch a moment when chairs aren't filled, be prepared to wait about 20 minutes for an open chair. Students utilize this barber shop consistently due to the close location. You might want the same barber but every single one has given me a consistent cut and beard trim. Check this place out, you won't regret it. read more
