Took my two little boys - 2.5 yrs and 11mths - here for haircuts. Positives: the staff is very nice and very patient; haircuts were good. Negative: all nearby parking is meters or parking garage; both boys got their hair cut in a total of 25 mins (the baby's cut lasted maybe 5 mins) and we were charged $50 for two adult cuts. Considering the average kids cut is like $15, I'd say go somewhere else. read more

Hate to give a bad yelp review during COVID but today was the second time getting a bad haircut from Arcade. I asked for a fade and the barber took a same-length clipper (probably a 1) to buzz my sides and left it too short to fix. Aka it wasn't a fade, just a buzz. I also asked to have the top of my hair cleaned up and take an inch off, and the barber just cut my hair into a bull cut -- no texture or detail whatsoever. All in all, I'd recommend going somewhere else if you're looking for a good haircut. Spare yourself a month of regrowing your hair. read more

This place is ONLY good for simple/quick haircuts. If you want a fade, lining or anything of that sort this is NOT the place for you and if you're African-American, this place is a lost cause. I got a hair cut from here yesterday and asked for a high fade on the sides and nothing to be done to the top which had longer hair. To create the fade, the barber buzzed the majority of my hair on the sides until it was down to the scalp (he also did a bad job of this because there are still patches of short hairs in different areas of my scalp) and then tried to fade a 1cm width section of hair from the bald patch he created into the longer top section. On top of this, he cut the hair unevenly on both sides and he tried to do damage control by cutting some hair off of the top to even it out. To make it even worse he didn't even give me a proper lining. This barbers at this place are very lazy and seem to just be trying to get customers out quickly rather than take their time and take pride in their work. They don't know how to cut different hair types other than straight and overall just poorly execute different hair-cutting techniques. This place is not worth the time or the hassle and I will NOT be returning. read more

I've lived in Ann Arbor for about seven years now and I've always gone here. It's been a mixed bag as far as the haircuts themselves go, but it's cheap, the location's great, and the barbers are always very friendly and pleasant to chat with. I've generally had the best luck with Billy, I'd recommend asking for him in particular. There can be a bit of a wait sometimes so I'd recommend going during work/class hours if you can. read more

Being black, I got scared because I had no idea how I'd find a barber that could cater to my ethnic locks. I tried going to this place on State St. that had "ethnic" in their name, but that turned out to be a load of crap! Again, I thought all was lost. But then, I happened upon a place with a black barber, Arcade Barber! Strangely enough, when I came back, he wasn't there and I had my hair cut by a white guy named James. I asked him if he knew what he was doing and he convinced me that he did. He wasn't that bad either. I gave him my $12 plus tip and I've been going there ever since. Everyone there is friendly and they always have cool stories to tell. And even if you find them to be boring, there's always a TV in the corner of the barber shop you can watch. Short waits, great service, and a guy that knows how to cut my brown ethnic curls. Almost as good as being back in DC. Ann Arbor...who woulda thunk it? read more

Similar to what some other reviews have said, it's alright. For a quick and simple haircut where you know exactly what you want, you'll be fine. At peak hours the wait is a little much. There seems to be a take-a-number and wait system but it's confusing. I always end up going inside and just exchanging glances with the barbers for a minute before anyone says anything, even if there's no one waiting. The barbers are all nice and talkative, but almost seem to be in their own world. Iv'e had Tiffany cut my hair twice and, considering I'm a little picky, I can't really complain much. Better than most. I think there are other places inn Ann Arbor that cost just as much, or less, and might be a little more fosforeced. I plan on trying some other one's out in the future. read more

The barbers don't listen to what you want. Some of them even butcher your hair and they don't care. My advice, go somewhere else for a decent haircut in Ann Arbor. read more

Hard to give it a solid rating. There are more than one barber that work at this spot and I have had my hair cut by 4 of them from what I can remember. Until today, I would have given this place a 2-3 star rating. It tends to be pretty busy on the weekend and weekday afternoons. I do not go here often as they are priced around $18-20 w/o tax, a tad on the higher side for me. Anyways, I decided to come back here today after having my friend cut my hair for the past year or so for free. I was helped by Zach. And I am very happy that he was the one that cut my hair today. I just showed him a photo of the hair style I wanted as well as how short I'd like the bottom and top with a fade between the two. He did a great job, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to be. So I made sure to snap some pics of it for future references in case I come in on a day he is not working. The other barbers in the place are very nice as well and all of them have plenty of business with other customers. I will most likely return to this place in the future, but will just stick with Zach as he got it right the first time and I'm going with that. I'm sure many other people who go here also have their favorite barber they go to as well from the reviews that I have read. Whoa. Well, that was awesome. I decided to go there after recommendations from various people around the University of Michigan campus. I was hesitant at first, because I'd only gone to salons or chain haircut places like Boric's, and I didn't really trust a barber with my hair. Now I do. I'm caucasian, with medium dense, wavy hair. I went there, and saw men of various ages waiting to get their haircut. I took a number awkwardly and sat down. There were other college students there, and I soon noticed that the barber shop was very agreeable with their schedules if they had class soon, etc. So, I wanted the Mad Men style haircut, kinda like Donald Draper. I pretty much told my barber James as much, and mentioned a few other barber shop terms I knew (such as a tapered neck and natural arch), and he seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. I didn't mentioned length or anything. My haircut came out perfect, and it only took 15 minutes at the most. And it was $15. Dannnnnnggggg. The haircuts here seem kind of lazy, you know, the standard "take a variety of clipper settings" to the head. I don't get my haircut here. I go in from time to time, pay $4, for a little mid-haircut maintenance. One time, the barber took the clippers to the back of my neck and made a German expressionist painting, I swear to god. It takes me a long time to find a barber I trust and like. I have difficult hair and if it's not cut with care the cowlicks stick up everywhere. Tiffany and Joey know my hair and I have never had a bad haircut. The greatness of Arcade Barbers is not a secret and if you want a specific barber there's often a long wait but if you take the next available it goes pretty fast. This was the worst haircut I have had in years. My barber clearly didn't listen to what I had asked for. It was so bad that I actually had to stop the haircut midway through and tell him not to continue because it was so bad. My hair is really easy to cut and this was a huge disappointment. If you want a simple haircut, this place may work. It's actually not cheaper than any other places ($15-16 for basic haircut). They are detailed about the edges, which I appreciated but my barber was not too familiar with my undercut request and cut off the top and back lengths of my hair (took four months to grow out!). While you might catch a moment when chairs aren't filled, be prepared to wait about 20 minutes for an open chair. Students utilize this barber shop consistently due to the close location.
