Well they do say every day's a school day…read more We learned something we didn't know here; we both simultaneously thought that the milk in our coffees had turned (flat white & cappuccino £3 each) but the manager advises it's the complex quality of the exceptional coffee used, so next time it'll be espressos as milk doesn't add sweetness here and I avoid sugar. The manager offered to make fresh coffees and kindly explained about the quality of their coffee, supplied by Dark Woods Coffee and suggested this coffee ain't Costa - I do agree. My new coffee tasted identical to the original but my wife thought hers less 'sour'. Dark Woods provide the coffee and hand roast their beans on a 1950's Probat drum roaster. They are top notch on the environmental and social impact and certified B Corp - 5 green stars here. When tasting think terroir, varietals and process. I had the chestnut & wild mushrooms with garlic & herbs on organic sourdough supplied by an artisan maker. This dish was well balanced, delicious and a decent portion. My wife had the salmon bagel with cream cheese and scallions. She declared it delicious too (salmon delicately smoked by the Manchester Smoke House and bagel baked perfectly by the Bread Factory, Manchester). The sparkling water came well chilled and in a recyclable bottle. We were seated out back at a wobbly table that only required me putting my shoe on the base, the service was attentive, we were suitably distanced from other diners and they genuinely cared that we thought the milk in coffees was off. The place was spic & span clean and with their focus and transparency on quality organic food, preserving the environment (remember folks the earth is our only home) and relying on artisans for produce it's 5 green stars for them too. Really worth supporting.

Bistrot Pierre in Altrincham is a french restauraunt in the centre of the Greater Manchester town,…read morehaving been impressed by their menu selection including the fact they label gluten-free online, which is usually uncommon for a small brand of restaurants, I was excited to try it out here especially being a lover of all things french - well nearly all things french, based on my experience here today I can't say I'm anywhere near to a fan of Bistro Pierre. Starting with the service, it was pretty slow, I get the place was rather busy with it being a Saturday just a couple of weeks before Christmas but it didn't seem overly busy nonetheless and there still remained a good number of empty tables to the level a restauraunt, especially with so many staff, shouldn't have struggled to cope - yet sadly they did. When I was seated (after a confusing wait), I was given bread on the table which even after saying I was gluten-free the staff member didn't think to remove from right in front of me until I then questioned why she hadn't removed it only to get a half-hearted apology. For my food, I ordered the steak frites, again I was upset the staff member seemed unhelpful she didn't seem to regard my allergy in a respectful and serious manner and felt like I was taking a chance eating here as the food I ordered should be naturally gluten-free anyway and it was stated to be fine on the menu. The staff member told me two things 1. My steak as it is thin had to either be burnt or pink and there was no in-between 2. They were not doing the lunch menu even though I visited at a time where various other restaurants would still offer this. The only menu they had was a set-menu and it stated the price for two courses after I asked if I could just order one she said "Yes it will be around £10 to £12", again she refused to give a price which made me uneasy. It did end up costing £11.95 which is reasonable but still, I don't understand why they don't have one-course printed on the menu as they do for the lunch. The whole menus on its' own are rather confusing and make little sense, for example, they offer breakfast lunch and dinner menus - so far so good right? However, nowhere on their website, the menus or even the staff could tell me what menu is served when which surely should be common/easy knowledge as the set menus are virtually all they do so I can't help but feel confused and uneasy about the whole situation. I hoped after a bad start the one saving grace would be my food, which although it did take a considerable amount of time to come with no apology for my wait - I just hoped Bistro Pierre, a place which impressed me in terms of interior and exterior decor, gluten-free menu labelling and menu selection would at least impress me on the food but sadly they just didn't. My chips were so greasy, I thought they'd been seasoned with vinegar, they looked wet and tasted wet and to make it worse - they were bland, tasteless and unseasoned. They had no flavour or crispiness other than dripping oil. The steak also was bland and unseasoned, the steak was also a little chewy and to make it worse the slight bit of garlic butter they did include was hard and it wasn't buttery at all, being one small blob leaving the good majority of the steak bare. I was really excited to try out Bistro Pierre for a number of reasons, in every one of those departments from service to menu to food quality and speed and even the handling of allergies, I was really shocked, disgruntled at how poor it was, which really made me regret not calling in Nando's nearby. UPDATE: I was sent a reply to my email not long after this review was published where the business told me the actual times so I thought I'd had it here, but the overall food experience was so bad my rating still stands Breakfast: 9:30 am till 11:30 am Lunch: 12 pm till 4 pm 1*

The mushroom on toast and chicken lollipops stood out as the best! But the other small plates were not far behind! For the main I had chef's sushi platter - which I highly recommend! The sushi is prepared fresh and it was all delicious, probably the best sushi I've had in England! The menu has a wide selected range of sushi options. Every item of food we ordered was delicious! Drinks: I only ordered a soft drink, but the restaurant is also a bar which serves plenty of drinks. Atmosphere: The decor of the place is beautiful and fitted the relaxed ambience. We went for dinner quite late, when the restaurant slowly shifts towards a bar. Service: The service from all the members of staff was brilliant. The only downside was we had a very long wait between our starters and main (45 mins). Price: It is on the upper end but still very reasonable for the quality of food and the service you receive. Victors is slowly becoming one of my favourite places to eat in Manchester / Altrincham.

The Met Stop Diner - Diner decor

Wythenshawe in South Manchester isn't really known as a gastronomic destination. The majority of…read morerestaurants listed for the area are take-aways and cafes, all of which I'm sure are great in their own regards, but they're all pretty similar. This is why I like The Met Stop Diner. Someone decided to take a vacant space in Wythenshawe's town centre Civic Centre shopping precinct and build an American themed diner. Something different! A new angle! When you walk in, it's nice to see that they haven't half-baked it, they've gone for the full classic American diner interior, with red, white and chrome seating, condiment baskets, and a big mural of the New York skyline on one wall. The menu does try to cater for multiple tastes, with some classic English cafe classics such as the Full English Breakfast, but they have a good selection of American breakfasts too, as well as hot dogs, burgers, deli style sandwiches, and a few house specialities. My favourite part of England meets America was that on the tables there was one of those little silver ice cream dishes, which we came to realise were specifically for putting your tea bag in after taking it out of your tea! WHY DON'T MORE PLACES DO THIS?! This is such a simple idea, but I've only seen The Met Stop Diner do it so far, and they're American themed! There were three of us on this day, and we were all ready for breakfast, and so chose the American pancake stack, the Full English Breakfast, and the American Breakfast, as well as three mugs of tea. The tea came out first which was good as we all needed a brew, but as the breakfasts were cooked fresh to order, we'd drunk our tea by the time our food came out. A pot of tea might be a better idea, but it's not very American! The Full English was a standard cafe breakfast to be honest, but still decent homely stuff. The American breakfast was so substantial that it couldn't be finished, but it was agreed that the pancakes were great, as they were also on the stack of pancakes. Very enjoyable indeed. We'll definitely pop in again when we're next in the area, as the rest of the menu looks great too! The only thing I would suggest is reprinting the menus (as they were looking a bit dog-eared), and checking the spellings (Chicago, not "Chicargo"!), but if that's really the only thing I can find to suggest as an improvement, you're definitely doing something right, Met Stop! See you again soon!
