Chorizo Hash at Pico Lounge
Nasia N.

My friends and I came here for an afternoon meal after a walk in the hills of Glossop. I really liked the arty atmosphere in the restaurant and was well impressed with the paintings on the walls. The food was delicious. I had a chorizo hash with a fried egg on top that was full of flavour. It was good we could order individually at the bar as splitting the bill gets tricky with big groups sometimes. Service was fast and the staff -friendly.

It's not a bad little place this massive 'super lounge' in the Glossop area, just about 5 minutes walk from the train station and in a pretty upmarket retail park (M&S, hiking shops etc) It definitely seems to be an everyman venue with quiz nights, cocktails, wine and a decent selection of craft beers - there's an extensive food menu which I believe is served all day and when we popped in on Saturday morning it was super family friendly. Loads of kids in buggies etc which took the pressure off our own super screaming daughter (what a howl she has at the moment...) We popped in for brunch which is served all day with myself going off road by having bubble and squeak and my wife ordering the baked beans on toast. I found mine enjoyable if a little lacking in taste, it definitely needed to be fired up with the hot Louisiana sauce that was on the table with it. An enjoyable flat white (proper size) and tea (all food and drinks - plus a side of mushrooms and toast came to £20) - I may pop it up to a 4 star on a future visit once I see what the night time offering is like.

Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop - This local farm added a café about six months ago I heard.

I was asked if I ever had a proper English breakfast so we came to this relatively new café that's…read moresix months old. I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

Absolutely 5 star in every respect. Glorious food served by friendly staff in clean and welcoming…read moresurroundings. The sight of a log burner roaring away is a marvellous sight on a cold winter morning.

First stop was Matlock - cute little village, powerful river flowing though town, nice views all around. We wanted to have lunch but hadn't really seen anything and so we decided to head to Bakewell (about 20 minutes drive) when I noticed a classy, inviting, purple sign by the road "The Orangery". We quickly turned around and are so glad that we did! We had a really GREAT lunch and have already booked again for Christmas Eve when our daughter and new husband visit. It may sound odd but it used to be part of a very prestigious school for over a century - the most famous "Old Girl" was Richmal Crompton who wrote all the "William" books that I devoured as a kid. Now the whole complex is basically a old peoples home (Man are they lucky!!). So the lunchgoers were, on average, grey haired (but I am going that way too) - but it was fairly quiet in terms of lunchgoers and music (just the right volume - Christmas songs, Wham and many many more of the favorites. The restaurant drips class, the bistro also (full bar). A wide selection of offerings _ I seriously wanted the prawn curry but got lured into a Christmas special. Wonderful staff, great food, excellent service - and beautiful nooks for a quiet or romantic lunch. Try it you'll like it! Two big thumbs up Review #108 2019

One half of the small building (by the river as the name suggests, but not overlooking it) is their kitchen, the rest light and airy with about six or seven round tables perfect for families and groups. It does get to be a bit of a squeeze in there at times though. On their walls are their chalked up specials and paintings for sale borrowed from the People's Gallery across the road. This cafe is perfect for traditional English breakfast and lunches like paninis, baked potatoes, soups with specials like lasagne and chilli con carne all under £5. They also provide a takeaway service which is pretty popular at lunchtimes.

It is nice to come here if you are waiting for the next train and want something warm to eat. Or even just a good old gossip with your mate. Either way they are accommodating. They help local businesses too by providing takeouts. The place is small but then again it is not meant to be a massive cafe. It is small and quaint to fit in with the town. The river Tame flows right next to it. It is pretty and has photos of the local areas on the walls.

The restaurant features freshly made dishes made with homegrown seasonal produce. While visiting our family in Liverpool, we came here as a group for afternoon tea. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law had been here before, so they knew it was great and brought us back, along with my husband's grandparents. Do take note, you have to book your table in advance. We sat in one of the backrooms which was very cozy and inviting, albeit a bit noisy from a rowdy group of "ladies who lunch," but it was fine once they left. We all really appreciated that savory items were included in the the afternoon tea. The menu features a selection of sandwiches, savouries, a cup of soup, a bucket of chips, a selection of cakes and a mini trifle. Plus your choice of a pot of tea or cup of filter coffee. I was happily surprised at the wide variety of teas! There was ample to eat. My husband and I ate our entire afternoon tea, but everyone else in our group had a few sweet treats left to take home. The food was very delicious. I loved the little quiche best along with the soup served in a cute tea cup and saucer! Plus, the little basket of chips was a nice touch! Scrumptious! Also, it's just 14 pounds for Afternoon Tea which I think it a great value for such a delicious savory tea. Afterwards, my family browsed the farm store and boutique which featured a lot of cute country style home goods and seasonal produce and artisanal food items. Do go upstairs to poke around at their merchandise. It's cute. I really enjoyed this afternoon tea and I'd love to return next time we're back to visit my husband's family!
