Lunkers/Nuno came.. and found the problem was the fireplace gas fittings/etc just needed a CLEANING. So, like any appliance, over time, you'll eventually need the setup checked and cleaned (like a furnace), just so you have a reliable fireplace during the winter season. Nuno recommends every 3-4 years.. have him come out and check it and clean it (he takes it all apart, cleans everything so it's like new).. About $300 every 3-4 years.. it's less than a single tire for some SUVs. Worth every penny.

Spoke with representative Steff and explained that I had a hard thick glaze of creosote that had ignited in the chimney the previous day. Steff, who was pleasant and professional during our conversation, said she would try to get a technician to my home today. I was quoted a price for the job which was fair and reasonable. Thirty minutes later, a Kiwi utility truck entered my driveway. Technicians Gabe and Regan introduced themselves and I gave them an overview of my woodstove and chimney. They wasted no time and immediately went to work. They thoroughly cleaned the chimney and removed all the glazed creosote; they went on to clean the stove, stove pipe, chimney cap and screen. A thorough inspection was performed, and I was happy to hear the clay flue was in good shape. Upon completion of the job, they vacuumed the area around my stove and cleaned up loose debris from outside. These two gentlemen did a great job and where very personable, knowledgeable. Gabe was at the ready with information on products currently on the market for upgrades and equipment that enhanced safety of wood burning stoves and chimney liners. We got a second opinion and the other company stated our flue looked fine, we got some minor cracks patched and a new cap for under $1,500. It seems like Best Chimney Services may have just zoomed in on small cracks to make it seem like a worse problem. The only useful thing they did was give us a recommendation for where to get help with our gas fireplace. Wouldn't come back here for any chimney service.
