This is any extremely high quality service! They don't try to upsell you. I have complete confidence in their recommations. We had issues with our 1930 house. Our heating system is oil and there had been substantial deferred maintenance. Their inspector came and gave realistic recommendations. He noted that it seemed the chimney servicing the heater had not been updates since 1930 when oir house was built. He also let me know we were a few years from failure, although he recommended we move forward with repairs. We also used this company to repair our woodburning fireplace. They did a great job! We hired them for an inspection. They gave us an estimate for $6,000-$9,000 for a new flue and chimney cap, saying our flue was too cracked and damaged to use as per images from the scope camera. We got a second opinion and the other company stated our flue looked fine, we got some minor cracks patched and a new cap for under $1,500. It seems like Best Chimney Services may have just zoomed in on small cracks to make it seem like a worse problem. The only useful thing they did was give us a recommendation for where to get help with our gas fireplace. Wouldn't come back here for any chimney service. read more

More recently I have had the extreme pleasure of having Mason be the lead on installing a stainless steel chimney liner for me and conduct a fire test for work recently completed. Even though there was a challenge with the size of the liner, due to my chimney being narrower in the middle, Mason was able to easily troubleshoot, find the correct size and have the installation completed shortly after the initial visit. Mason returned today to conduct a fire test to ensure everything was in working order and supplied the necessary paperwork for my property management company at our condo association to prove that my fireplace is in working order and safe to use. We originally had an issue with our Chimney, and it needed a repointing on the Chimney from the roofline up only. Unfortunately we mistakenly hired an Irish Guy (small business) who owned a Chimney Repair business that came in at a low price. He was a complete disaster, and ended up tearing down half of the chimney, we fired him since we discovered he did not pull the proper permits to perform the work needed. We then found Best Chimney, and met with Reggie the salesman to discuss options going forward. He reassured us that it can be fixed without tearing down the rest of the chimney, and we believe he gave us a fair estimate of the work needed to complete the job. I was nervous about getting my chimney repaired after meeting with a couple contractors. Some had a lowish price to treat only the cosmetics. I asked them for a quote on a chimney cap -- and they came out and assessed. They explained the crown's cement was crumbling so they would have to make that fix before installing the cap. They gave me a final quote (via PDF and an online way to approve the quote). I thought the quote was reasonable: $643.06. Once approved they set up a good time to come do the work. Send a couple reminders, too, which is always helpful. They did everything as expected and final charge/price for work was exactly same as the original quote. Set up an appointment to have a fan installed in my chimney. Provided all of the information about the chimney in the initial call. Technician came out, told me that it would be no problem and that he would send out a quote in a few days. No quote after 1 month so I contacted them and received this reply "...we can't quote for a fan. This is the inspection report. We cannot install a fan on a prefabricated fireplace as it may compromise the venting materials. Aftermarket parts on prefabricated fireplaces are not permitted." I replied by reminding them that the technician himself said it would be no problem. Next reply: "I do apologize, the information that was given is incorrect. This should not be an issue and I do apologize for relaying the wrong information - Douglas will work up a quote and send that along to you shortly!" I can speak too highly of the emergency assistance Best Chimney provided when the six story chimney exhaust flue in my Beacon Hill townhouse failed. They came the day after I called and removed buckets of filthy bricks and mortar dust from inside the chimney. The problem proved to be more severe and required the insertion of a flexible flue liner from top to bottom. A proposal was received the next day and I accepted it. Due to the emergency nature of this issue, my job was bumped to the head of the line. Five days later the crew was back and after five hours of work, I have a functioning hot water heater again. Short version: Do not use them! They will rip you off and suggest unnecessary work. Long version: My wife and I bought a house in Waltham in 2019. We didn't know if the fireplace worked so we had BBC come to take a look at it. They charged us in the ballpark of $4,500 to clean/sweep the chimney, install a steel liner, and remove some debris. Then they gave us the green light. No joke, one year later to the day, we had a chimney fire. We have now been living in a hotel for the past eight months (due to insurance, covid, supply shortages)! So now we called them up and said we need to fix the chimney so we can put a gas insert in. They told us they would do it for an additional $1,875!!!! This is after we had a chimney fire after the inspected it and gave us the green light. So we said "ok" just because we want to be done with it. So the crew shows up about a week ago and spends maybe 30 minutes putting a camera in our chimney (which had a brand new steel liner that they had installed so this seems absolutely pointless and the biggest rip off ever) and that's it! They charged us $375 for that and never fixed our chimney (which they wanted an additional $1,500 to do). Thank the almighty that they didn't come prepared and never finished the job because a competitor came today and completely recemented our chimney for $289! I will never do business with Boston's Best and would recommend you do not either. Save yourself the time and money and the potential of a chimney fire! read more

He told me all about our wood burning stove and left the area cleaner than when he started. He was also so kind to help move a heavy appliance that my wife was unable to help me with! Lastly, and maybe most impressively, I wrote the check for too high an amount since David was initially unaware of the deal I purchased. After he left my home, he came back a few minutes later (after realizing I had overpaid) to let me know and have me write a new check. Amazing honesty. I had them come and inspect my chimney when I first bought my home in 2006. When the tech arrived he spent no more than 15 mins on location and told me that everything was in perfect order, my fireplaces had never been used since the house was built and did not need cleaning and that he cleaned the boiler flue but it wasn't very dirty to begin with. He told me I was good to go and ad no problems that he could see. Fast forward to a month ago. My carbon monoxide detectors went off and the fire dept arrived. They told me that I needed to get both my boiler and chimney cleaned. I had just had the boiler cleaned about 12 weeks earlier but my plumber came out anyway just to be sure and found the boiler to still be very clean but the chimney was blocked. Between he and I we were able to clear the chimney flue just enough to get the boiler up and running again. I called Boston's Best Chimney out again to inspect and clean the boiler flue. The tech arrived and I told him what had happened. After a quick 5 min look at the flue he said that it was built inadequately from the start and should have never passed inspection when the house was built. He then said that he didn't think that the chimney was repairable and would write me a report outlining what my options were in order to get it up and running again. After waiting for two weeks and leaving two messages with no further response from them I called in a different chimney company. The new chimney company ordered the material and made the repairs. While making the repairs they discovered pieces of material inside the flue left there from when the house was originally built in 1968. They determined from those materials that the chimney had never been cleaned in its 53 year history. So in summary Boston's Best Chimney ripped me off not only once (a few weeks ago) but twice, never actually cleaning the chimney or noticing there was a problem back in 2006. Finally after my repeated phone calls they did send and inspection report that gave an amazingly vague description on my chimney and offered no recommendations for repairs or needed follow up service. One of my favorite commercials from back in the day were of the Maytag repairman that had absolutely NOTHING to do..... the implication that they made quality products that never broke down. The Volvo commercial I loved was where they took a Volvo, raised it off the ground, turned it over, then SPLAT dropped it on its head.... and nothing happened. I think of these two commercials when I think of Boston's Best Chimney. I worked with a person called Dana, one of the most professional, informative, and courteous people I've ever met, more than most of the people I've worked with on Wall Street for the past two decades. He and his team came in, surveyed our chimney, and thoroughly fixed, fluted (is that a word?), and fitted all the necessary R2D2 parts to work with the new steam boiler and water heating systems we just replaced in our building. I realize how much I've taken for granted the amount of science and engineering behind the most important venting system for a building's heating system. But now I know, and have this company to thank for it. Once in a while I'll actually wander into our basement to marvel at the entire set up like it's a work of art. It's actually clean down there! We have had a wonderful experience with the people at Best Chimney Services. We have a large field stone chimney which has been difficult to maintain and we have had water coming into our living room wall which has been difficult to address. Reggie and his crew, Mike, Stephen and Shane, have all been helpful to us working on waterproofing and adding a 10 year sealant to the existing flashing. This will keep us from having to do this every few years as we had been doing. They have advised us that the chimney cap that we have is not big enough for this chimney and is probably the cause of the water coming into the house. We are scheduled for Best Chimney to replace this chimney cap as soon as it comes in. In addition to this we had not been able to use our wood burning fireplace because the arch was so big and the smoke was coming into the living room rather than going up the chimney. it was recommended to us by Boston Fine Home Details to get a gas insert in our fireplace to eliminate that problem. We have now gotten the gas insert but needed to have Best Chimney Services insert the gas flue and install a new hearth since our old hearth flag stones were cracked. They did this under very difficult conditions because it was at the time we had sub zero temperatures this winter. They never complained and were always very pleasant with us. They took pride in their work and were excited to see the finished product. They were reliable and showed up when they said they would be here. The stone company that provided the granite made a mistake and they had to bring a heavy piece of granite here, take it back and bring the correct piece to us. The hearth looks great and the fire reflects on the granite. The picture we are including does not show the finished fireplace because we are waiting for the surround portion to be delivered which will close in the fireplace. We have also had a pleasant experience with Doug, Rich and Amanda in their office. We were so pleased with our whole experience with Best Chimney and plan to use them as our trusted chimney company in the future. Inquired with the company about an apparent new leak in the same area they previously worked on three years ago, a major job on the chimney and liner. The elder homeowner was told one thing from the technician who came out on the discovery of the new leak. However, when inquired with the office later to discuss what was told the homeowner I was advised "that is not what was said and that there was no current water damage".  We later rec'd an estimate to repair the flashing. When asked specifically and directly "what was the damaged to the flashing, especially since they said there was no current leak, no answer was provided. I was told by office manager that they are looking to no longer due this type of repairs because of the uncertainty of leaks. Next day I received a letter to take my business elsewhere. Be prepared for them to say that they can only do a chemical cleaning which requires two visits and costs about $900. We last had our chimney swept two years ago and it definitely needed a sweeping, but saying that using a brush wasn't possible was interesting. The sweeper also recommended putting a liner in for a total of about 9k. So I called another company that does CSIA inspections and was told that they do not perform chemical cleans. This company came and performed the inspection and did a great job cleaning with a brush and vacuum without up sell to a $900 chemical clean or 9k for a liner. Maybe you will have a different experience, but I wish I asked about chemical cleaning before calling best chimney. I would have saved the $125 fee for them telling me I need to spend over 9k when in reality a brush and vacuum worked great. read more

More specifically they were able to provide us with a quote quickly, got us booked on their schedule, provided reminders for the appointment as the date approached, showed up the date and time they promised (wearing masks)! I recently bought a house and the previous owner advised me to get the chimney serviced before I used it. The damper, or mechanism that lets air in and out was busted. It wouldn't really open completely, or close completely. This is a problem because you get a lot of cold air in your house during the winter. I made an appointment with Boston's best chimney. They arrived promptly, diagnosed the issue and quoted me for a fix. They were able to replace the damper within 30 minutes or so. While they were on the roof, they even offered to take down an old TV antenna that the previous owner left. I thought that was a nice touch. So, we've used BBC a few times in the past. We've been generally happy, but thought they were expensive. This past spring we paid them $195 to clean our chimney and they left us with a quote of $6,000 to fix our flue, cap, and other misc stuff that we thought sounded a bit like a scam. They had ready made pictures of our "problems" So, we waited a bit and got a new person to come and inspect to see if this was really needed. You know, a second opinion. First of all, our chimney cap was cemented on so they could not get pictures, so we don't know if the pictures that BBC gave us are even pictures of OUR chimney. Second, BBC cleaned the chimney box, but the flue was NOT cleaned.... something we paid for and clearly didn't get. It's been a few months, so we won't go back to them for reimbursement, but we'll never call them again. read more

Called Boston's Best Chimney to clean our fireplace and tile burner flues. Matt came out on a Saturday and looked at both. Told us the furnace flue was the best stainless steel fuel in the business and never needed cleaning. Still as bright and shiny as the day it was installed 10 years ago. The fireplace flue did not need cleaning as it was just some small soot buildup from dry wood and duraflame logs that we burn. Told us both chimneys were in good shape and did not need service. Didn't even charge us for his time. Told me to call them in a couple of years to look at the fireplace flue again. It never ceases to amaze me how many companies think their customers are uninformed, or just stupid. We had a slow leak in our chimney, which is square and about 24" by 24". Not too large. The "supervisor" came out and looked at it, remarking that he "didn't see anything obvious" that could be causing the issue. They wanted to charge us over $2000.00 for a re-point bottom to top though, even though there was "nothing obvious" that could cause the leak. Funny, every time it rained, there were drips coming through the ceiling via the chimney, so there is some cause and effect here. After the winter, I had a handy-man look at the chimney. It was weak flashing around the chimney base that needed some asphalt filler which cost only $300.00 and 4 hours to perform. I have not seen a leak since, even during brutal heavy rains. Remember, these people are a CHIMNEY company, not a ROOFING company, so they have willful blindness to anything else.... but they'd love to charge you for work that may not solve your immediate issue though. read more

I got two other people (including an off-duty fireman who does chimney sweeping) to come out for quotes free of charge and both informed me that new liners are a popular scam in this unregulated industry. Both confirmed that all I needed was a simple chimney sweeping. My liner and other items on the list were in fine condition! Thank goodness for honest people because Boston's Best Chimney could have scammed me big time. I booked an inspection for my chimney after buying my house over the summer (a 90 year old colonial). As part of booking my appointment I informed them that, while the fireplace and chimney looked great, the prior owner had never recalled using it in the 50 years that he owned the house. When the chimney sweep showed up to do the inspection he found that the damper couldn't be opened and told me that he didn't have the equipment to remedy the situation at this time and that I'd have to book another appointment. Being November and thus the busy season for the fireplace and chimney industry I was told that the next available appointment wasn't for another 5 weeks. The day before the appointment they called to say their guy (do they only have one?) was called out of state and couldn't make it. We rescheduled. I called BBC to evaluate my chimneys and help me figure out why my entire house smelled of smoke for a week after we used our fireplace. I assumed that a good cleaning was needed because we are new to the house and have no idea when the prior owners did it. The customer service rep explained on the phone the fees for the evaluation and the cleaning itself, if it was needed, and I was given a 2 hour time frame as to when the tech would be at my door. Andrew arrived within that time frame and fully explained to me what he was going to do after listening to my concerns about the chimney. He was able to diagnose the issue right away after looking at the relationship of a higher section of roof to the chimney opening and he gave me several options to correct the issue. It was apparent that his knowledge of how chimneys and heating systems work was very high. He was professional, thorough in his explanations, and, here is what I appreciated most: he was completely pressure free. In fact, he recommended some tactics I could use to try and correct the problem before I invested in any alterations. I am confident that I will need to take his advice and make some alterations to keep my house smoke free during fireplace season, but I was impressed that he didn't come across too strong. He kept everything clean and was very considerate of my house as well. Boston's Best really lives up to their name. They are the BEST! We have a very old house with two separate and huge chimneys. Both of them had been neglected over the years and needed a lot of work. We have hired them to do a few projects over the last few months - relining a very tall chimney from top to bottom, insulating a chimney that runs through an attic space, flashing, rain caps, and most recently, grinding and pointing a very large chimney. First, they were kind enough to prioritize what had to be done now, and what could wait a few months, since I could not afford to do it all at once. Then, when they came, they were very professional, fast, and CLEAN! The grinding and pointing, especially, can be very messy and they took the time to do a very thorough job of cleaning up everything! (I think they house looks cleaner then when they started!) These guys are GOOD! I had a real problem with my chimney, since the gases from the furnace and the water heater were not exhausting, but hanging around in my basement - levels of carbon monoxide were detected by the MassSaves technician who came to do an energy audit on my house. Called the plumber - no problem with the furnace itself; called a chimney sweep, who came, said the job was more than he could handle, and recommended I call Boston's Best. So on a Monday morning I called, on Tuesday morning Matt came, found that both the clay liners in my 75 year old chimney had collapsed, and the clay chunks had formed a solid mass in the furnace flue. Although this was supposed to have been just an appraisal of the situation and a scheduling of work, I realized that I need this done ASAP. Matt made a few calls to reschedule some work, and then he and his crew worked non-stop for three days to clear both flues (the mess inside both flues was pretty awful), put new stainless steel liners in both flues, and rebuild the chimney from the roofline up. They had had to cut about eight openings in the chimney to get all the broken pieces of the liners out and remove the blockage (thank goodness my chimney is on the outside of the house!) and these holes were carefully repaired with bricks that were a close color match to the existing brick. All this was down in three days in very hot and humid weather, and several of my neighbors came over to watch the work and get the name of the company - as one neighbor said, "They come early and stay late." On the last day of the job, the crew even took down a satellite dish from the roof that a previous owner of my house had left there; I asked them to do it, and they said no problem and no charge. For all that they did, I found that the final charge for the whole job was very reasonable. As I said at the beginning, these guys are GOOD!!!!! read more

Rich from Boston's Best Chimney came out to my apartment in Boston yesterday for a removal of what my roommates and I believed to be a dead bird. The rotting bird caused black flies to flood our home... Rich fit us into his already busy and tight schedule. Upon arrival he and his assistant were extraordinary kind and clean! When they opened the damper I couldn't believe what was found. At final count there were 5 deceased birds and one deceased squirrel. While I was gagging in the background Rich held up a bird for me to take a picture for "memorabilia" lol. He then went around and shock vacuumed the remaining black flies which was way beyond what that had agreed to. I could have cried. What they did for me, and how this company treated myself and my roommates was so unbelievably kind, professional, and caring. It speaks volumes about a company when they help a vulnerable population (a female renter who would never have a clue how to even open a chimney damper and also someone who was extraordinary distressed about this situation) I cannot recommend this company enough! Rich even showed me pictures of the animals he has captured in chimneys and we were all able to share some laughs.
