Hired The Fireplace Guys to inspect two gas fireplaces at their price of $300 each. What was included was unclear, but Derek gave pushback when I asked for clarification. It was a red flag. Jason showed up over a month ago, and the glass in one shattered during the process. I've been calling in an effort to get a repair, and Derek answered a few weeks ago and was beyond rude. Excellent service. They made it easy to schedule an appointment. They showed up on time. They were clean, put down a covering in front of the fireplace that all their tools fit on. They didn't talk too much, they didn't want to run and use my bathroom (like many other repair people seem to want to do), they didn't go in and out of the house a million times, and they didn't smoke/stink! They left the room as clean as it was when they arrived. They didn't break my stuff. The Fireplace Guys are prompt, and efficient. The repair man, Lucas, was very knowledgeable and he called 30 minutes ahead and arrived on time. He introduced himself as he came in, and he left his shoes by the door. He put down 2 drop cloths in front of the fireplace and on the hearth, then he brought in a commercial vacuum cleaner and he proceeded to analyze the problem. He cleaned it and replaced 2 generators and made the pilot stable and reliable. He warned me that if I lose or damage the remote, the fireplace will need to be replaced, because you can't get the remotes anymore. This fireplace only works by remote. He also said I should have a carbon monoxide detector in that part of the room for safety. All in all a very pleasant experience and I recommend The Fireplace Guys. read more

We have a 15-20 yr old gas ventless fireplace. It had never been serviced in all those years, so it was long overdue for something to go wrong. Right from the beginning, the fireplace always gave off a kind of nasty smell. Not a gas smell, but something I couldn't identify. I thought it was because it was new, but the smell never went away. I never liked using it because of that, but my wife just loves having the extra warmth. This year, the pilot flame kept going out and Google searches only revealed that it could be that some part had failed. It was pretty dusty inside, so I tried cleaning it myself. The problem persisted, so I used Yelp to find these guys and made an appointment within a day or so. They quoted a service fee of $295 which seemed like a lot, but hey... after all these years it seemed worth it. The service rep arrived at the beginning of the time-window that they gave me when I scheduled the service.++ He was very polite and personable++. He removed his shoes before entering the main part of the house.++ He did an impressively thorough vacuum cleaning of the entire fireplace and surrounding empty spaces. ++ After he was done cleaning it, it worked flawlessly. I mean to say that it worked Better Than When it was NEW. +++ He was able to get the job done without needing any additional parts. +++ Finally, there is NO MORE BAD SMELL +++++++++ **Did you know that you should keep the pilot burning year-round? Otherwise, little spiders make their nests inside the pilot tube and can cause lots of problems just like the one that I had. The Fireplace Guys are awesome! Our home's former owners had installed a gas stove fireplace in the basement a long time ago. We hadn't ever used it and we wanted to get it completely checked out as we prepare to rent our home out soon. I called about a week ago and left a voicemail and they quickly called me back to discuss what we needed and were able to schedule an appointment for this morning to come take a look. The technician arrived at the time they stated and was very nice and incredibly knowledgable. He pointed out that we were missing the remote but that that on/off switch could be used instead. After taking the unit apart to inspect it and looking at the overall install, he quickly noticed that the initial install didn't have proper clearance around the exhaust vents and that we couldn't (and shouldn't) use it without that. He talked with me about what the clearance regulations are and gave us some options for what we could do to bring it into compliance if we wanted to. And also talked about what it would take to just remove it entirely. So, that was already 5 stars with just all of that helpful information! And then, on top of all of that, the technician said that there would be no charge for the visit! So, I'd give them 10 stars if I could and I appreciate that they evaluated the unit on the house. read more

It is a busy time, and these guys only reply to phone calls every 2-3 days. What is worse is that as part of their routine maintenance, that they did not correctly service my Heatilator fireplaces (they blocked the airducts which caused the flame to miss the thermocouple and the pilot would go out) and I had to call in the authorized Heatilator service people who saw and corrected the same mistake on all of my units. After reading Derek's response, all I can say is that after his company came, the fireplace stopped working, and after th Heatilator guys came, it worked. read more

I recently contacted The Fireplace Guys to service my gas fireplace. As it would consistently shut off. They arrived on time, wearing a mask and took their shoes off when entering my home. After examining my fireplace they informed me that a simple cleaning was not going to resolve my issue and new parts were required. I wasn't charged for the visit as several parts had to be ordered. Upon their return new parts were installed followed by a full cleaning. They also installed a convenient remote control for me. My fireplace runs like it's brand new thanks to The Fireplace Guys. It was really difficult trying to get someone on the phone. If you send them a message via here or their website then you get an automated response to call them. However, every time I called it would go to voicemail and it would take days to get a response. If I missed the return call then I had to start all over. Eventually we connected and scheduled a time to have them come out to service my gas fireplace, which he said would be $250. The fireplace came with the house and I was looking to get it serviced for the first time since we moved in 5 years ago. We've turned it on less than a dozen times but it works. He showed up with one other guy and they were nice enough to take off their boots and use a drop cloth. I heard them banging around for about 30 mins then called me down to say I need to replace it. He said it's rusting. Yes, there's some surface rust on the inside most likely due to condensation. I asked if he did anything else (actually clean or service it) and he said no, that we shouldn't use it and it needs to be replaced. He would have to rip it out and change the vent. Basically saying I'd have to pay $7,000+ to replace it. He went outside to check the vent and showed me a picture saying that's where the water was getting in because water is coming off the roof. There's no way water is getting in. He kept everything off, removed the wool embers, and didn't even put the logs back into place. I've read that it's common for gas fireplaces to rust inside if the pilot light doesn't stay on or there's a bad gasket letting cold air in but instead of checking these things and service it like I asked he wanted more $$ to just rip it out. I asked for a quote to replace it out of curiosity but he never sent one and it's been months. In response to Derek, I know I have the right company because my security camera has a picture of you and your truck including the same name and phone number of your company.
