First appointment here with Dr. Lee…read more Super clean facility, comfortable waiting room and chairs, the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Lee was very personable, friendly and had a great ear listening before responding. Only negative feedback I have is the check in process. Leading up to the appointment, you get texts, emails confirming your appointment. They send all the pre-registration forms via a link to complete prior to check in. Upon arrival, I checked in on the kiosk. I also confirmed via email and text that I had "arrived". 15min goes by and everyone around me has been called in, I walk up to the front to be told I was not checked in and the kiosks don't relay info to them. Go back to the exam room and again, same questions that were answered online didnt come through. Note for future, just go to the front desk and check in with one of the folks.

This is also where the labs are for testing. This is not and I repeat not a part of the actual hospital you don't check in here for the hospital for emergency room operations etc It can be very very congested most of the time during peak hours. Working your way to where you get dropped off can be a real pain in the ass you don't have to wait because there's a little cluster of unorganization. If you park yourself in the parking garage you're fine but if you prefer to use the valet or if you're getting dropped off or you're also taking Uber or private car you will find that it's all right there as they're getting dropped off at one time and it's usually a cluster fk. I usually use valet or Uber and I've gotten used to the wait and I pretty much know once you come in though they're very helpful showing you where you need to go. This is also when you walk in on the entrance floor where the pharmacy is if you have to pick up prescriptions or stuff like that. There is a little cubby hole by the entrance doors where if you use valet parking where you validate your ticket and you pay and then you just wait for your car to come around. That can be a little congested too sometimes after you pay it's automatically transmitted but you might wait 15 or 20 minutes depending on how crowded it is if they have to snake their way through other cars. For what I've needed though for the most part it's been fine the one good thing is they're pretty much divided up between cardiology vascular on floors. Same with labs. So it's fairly easy to negotiate through the elevator. It's something you have to get used to though if you have major surgery done here at the hospital you will be returning back to D cam quite often because a lot of the doctors even though there's five or six other University of Chicago owned places throughout the metropolitan area many of them don't utilize it so you may have to come down to Hyde Park. also the food court on the second floor is really good they got some really bang on Pizza which is just awesome. And they make fresh grilled burgers and chicken sandwiches too. So after all the mess if you have a delay at least you can get some good vittles down the gullet into the belly

Today I received a text that I had "scheduled" a payment for $421 that was going to post to my debit card in 6 days. When I called their office they claimed my insurance is refusing to cover the urine culture and claimed that when I signed the paperwork at the time of the visit I "authorized" them to charge my card for whatever they want. I don't recall signing any such paperwork beyond authorizing the initial copay. I was able to cancel this charge but it feels sneaky that this was not disclosed to me at the time of my visit- I would have waited and seen my GP who doesn't gouge me for lab work and doesn't have sneaky billing practices. I regret going here and I don't want others to make the same mistake. Furthermore I called my insurance today and was informed that they ran a bunch of unnecessary tests which ran up my bill. I knew exactly what was wrong because it's a chronic issue, and only needed a standard urine culture. Why as $800 worth of tests run without my consent for a standard UTI visit? I've been in this situation countless times before and was never taken advantage of financially this way by an Urgent Care before.

The biggest pro is that everyone is very personable, and the MA & doctor both had excellent bedside manner. It was genuinely a good experience while I was being looked at. The biggest con is the wait time. I initially walked in around 9:30am, hoping to be looked at 10-10:30am and make a work meeting by 11. However, I waited until nearly 10:30am (an hour later) and ended up leaving because I had to go. I returned with a booked appointment for 12:30pm, and I wasn't looked at until almost 1:45pm. Numerous people that arrived after me were taking in first, and I'm not sure why -- maybe it was a triaging thing. This is a great place to get your immediate/urgent care done, but note that it's not really immediate. If you can find a way to kill the time, you won't be disappointed. However, if you plan to be in and out, you may need to consider another location.

Don't do it! Find another emergency room. I went to the ER at Mercy for treatment of food…read morepoisoning. I was severely dehydrated and In serious need of fluids. I called urgent care first and they explained that based on the severity of the illness and the need for IV fluids I would have to go to an ER. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and Mercy Hospital is in my network. I have a$1000 ER copay which I paid in full by credit card at time of service. The Level of care was pretty good. The nurses and doctors were all very nice. The number of ER patients that arrived in the back of police cars and in handcuffs while I was there was a little scary, but what can you do. I realize I wasn't a medical priority since it was just dehydration. During the 6 hours there I received 2 IV bags of fluid, they drew blood and took a urine and stool sample. Standard care. So I received my fluids began to feel a little better, discharged and sent on my way. Within a few more days I was able to return to work. Overall the treatment was good and I was satisfied. Then the real nightmare began. About 6 weeks after service I received a bill from Mercy. It was a very generic bill which was not itemized. It didn't even show if my $1000 copay was applied. I was shocked to see that the total cost of services was $7313!!!! It stated my insurance paid them $3741 and that I still owed them over $2500. I made a call and found out this is what I owed even after the $1000 copay Was applies. I knew there had to be a mistake. I called Mercy and asked for an itemized bill. I explained there was no way the cost could have been over $7000. They were rude and defensive when I asked and the itemized bill didn't show up. It took 2 additional calls and almost a month to finally receive the itemized bill. Only after I told them I filed a fraud claim with BCBSIL for not receiving an itemized bill did I receive the itemized bill. Upon reviewing the bill I found a typo. A major typo. Each IV was listed as a seperate line item. B/c I had 2 IVs that day the quantity for each should have been listed as one. The 2nd IV listed on the bill had a 0 behind the 1 under quantity which in turn was showing I received 10 IVs to the tune of $446 a piece. Therefore, I was charged for 9 IVs I never received and was being billed $4014 for them. I called Mercy immediately. The billing agent recognized and acknowledged the mistake and confirmed it with a supervisor after putting me on a brief hold. Ok, just issue me a new corrected bill and we're all good right? NOPE! I was told in order for Mercy to correct their mistake which could ultimately negatively impact my finances and credit that I had to write them a letter of dispute and.......wait for it......FAX it to them. Yes! Fax! The cutting edge form of document transmission from 1989. Unbelievable in 2018. So I typed up my letter, printed it out, got in my time machine and headed to a local UPS store with a fax machine and attempted to fax out the letter of dispute. After 4 attempts, the line just rang and rang with no answer. I jumped back into my time machine and headed to Fedex Office (or should I say Kinkos since that was all the rage when we were still faxing in the last century?). Multiple attempts were made again. I called Mercy to confirm the number. I had it correct. They told me they are just busy receiving a lot of dispute letters (shocking? No!) and that I need to just keep trying. I asked if there was any other option, if I could even drop it at the billing office in person. I was told no. I was also told I could not be transferred to a supervisor. Only faxing was allowed. I don't have time to sit at a location with a fax machine to try again and again to fax them a dispute to a mistake they made for over $4000!!! This place is scamming people. I have filed another fraud claim with my insurance company and I have begun a claim with the Illinois Attorney General's Health Bureau for medical billing fraud. If you have no choice but to go to Mercy for Emergency care don't pay them a dime until they send you an itemized bill and you can confirm it is correct. I suspect they are pulling this scam on a lot of people and insurance companies. These are the people to blame for rising medical and health insurance costs!!!!
