I loved everything about this place: the ambiance, staff, and most importantly, the food! The interior is trendy and colorful without being overwhelming. Beautiful! I got the vegetable omelette that came with the potatoes and ordered a side of biscuit and sausage. The omelette was excellent. The vegetables were vibrant and provided a fresh flavor and texture to the omelette. The potatoes were crispy and even though it is fried it didn't taste greasy or oily like other hashes. Surprisingly, I thought the biscuits were just okay. Don't get me wrong, they were yummy, but didnt really blow me away. Wasn't as buttery or flaky as other biscuits I've had. It was actually a little dry! Maybe I came on an off day? But, oh my goodness, the sausages were the best breakfast sausages I've ever had! I don't know what it was. I was looking for a new breakfast spot to check out and stumbled across Mint Mark. I absolutely loved the interior decor, and found the place cozy! Very retro-pical! ;P We walked in (kiddos and all) clearly new to the place and the guy at bar greeted us. He was kind and was quick to explain the ropes--self-seated, order at the bar, and water is self-served. Food was good--ordered Sunday morning sandwich and matcha latte. But the potatoes in the breakfast bowl blew my mind! I don't consider myself a potato person, except fit my love of McDonalds fries (which stays with me from my childhood). Texture was on point and I never had them cooked like that before. They also had an unlabeled hot sauce, which tasted/looked tomatillo-based. Menu was confusing and pretentious...doesn't really explain what're you're ordering just lists several ingredients. We went with the waiters recommendations. It's been a long grueling few years since I have been able to return to Madison to enjoy the deliciousness that is Mint Mark! Lucky for me, my cousin was getting married in town, and I got to share this amazing place with my fiance and parents last weekend. My parents have never dined at a place like this, as they aren't very adventurous. aka if they can't pronounce or don't recognize an ingredient, they get scared. So naturally I wanted them to experience what real food made with love and care tasted like. We started with cocktails, they have an incredible drink menu, draft cocktails, and a very inventive mocktails menu! We ordered the Cauliflower, Terrine, Chitarra, Fish Fry, and the Skillet Cookie! The golden raisins and sauce that accompanied the Cauliflower dish was incredible! My parents who at the sound of Chicken Liver and even the sight of it, turned up their noses, couldn't stop themselves from eating it, and they cleaned the plate. .Because, it's delicious! Every element was spot on. The Chitarra, they were less enthused by, but I made sure to finish it all because the butternut sugo was made of dreams, and I am a sucker for all things pasta, and because they don't have good taste clearly. It was AMAZING. Fish Fry- YUM those fries served with it were perfection, the fish was perfectly seasoned, and I could eat that every Friday with pure joy! Skillet Cookie- LIKE for real guys. Who doesn't love a solid cookie? And by solid I mean, the perfect ooey gooey chocolate texture, THEN you throw in some brown sugar bourbon ice cream (goes well with an old fashioned, just saying) and topped with butterscotch (which to me was the star here) Literally the meal was delicious. Wow wow wow! Came here this weekend for an annual celebratory "treat yourself" meal with a group of friends. For the first time in my life we actually ordered everything off the menu. First off, Mint Mark is effortlessly cool. It's the kind of place that's great to take a date or anyone that you're trying to convince that Madison's food scene is incredible. Between the botanical wall, Anthony Bourdain mural, open kitchen or retro bar, the atmosphere makes mint Mark feel like a place to be. Second, the food and drinks cannot be beat. I am not a fan of alcohol, but their cocktail selection, especially the guava island, was out of this world! The food was all delicious - no complaints here. My favorites were the cauliflower, pierogi and the biscuit. Last, the service. Mint Mark doesn't take reservations and the place was packed full of people - which can lead to stressed out staff, however everyone that we encountered was professional, helpful and friendly. This is one of the places where you get that welcoming feel of the family-owned place. What is really surprising tho, is that Mint Mark is small plates restaurant that changes their menu entirely in a matter of just a few days! I was just visiting Madison and picked it randomly, but if I lived in the area, oh man.. That will make me come so often! The place is not particularly roomy, but not too small either. As long as you step by before everyone else, you'll get a table. They also seat quite a few at the bar and by the kitchen, and since latter was a bit unusual for us too, we've chosen the kitchen view. That was a brave decision, and the guys at the same time are brave enough to show the entire process from A to Z, and tells they've nothing to hide. By the end of the night, I knew what are they going to cook by just seeing which one of the cabinets they open lol. Respectively, everything we ordered, was cooked right in front of us too, and that's awesome! I think appetizers rotate on the menu too, but you may get lucky and see there cauliflower or focaccia. If you do, go for either one, without a doubt! First one is roasted, then deep fried, served under mouthwatering sauce and topped with crispy Grana Padano on top; all of it makes cauliflower so flavorful, you've never even thought it would be! Focaccia, in its turn, was like super fresh piece then slightly roasted right before serving, that made it a bit warmer and crispier. Of course you should try it with sides, and my fav here was pickled radicchio (I asked for some extra by the way, and they gave it no questions asked). And to round it up with a food, I can say that my girlfriend decided to try escargot for the first time here, and she did like it! Beer/wine/drinks selection is wide enough for a small plates restaurant, not huge like in a tap house, but you can get what you want. Craft cocktails are great tho, after we were done with a food we made a few rounds and tried most of them! Pricewise is about what you'd expect, slightly higher than average, but absolutely worth it from price/quality perspective. This is the place I will definitely go to next timw I'm in Madison, because I'm sure they will surprise myself with something delicious again. My boyfriend and I stopped here for a quick bite while waiting for One Barrel to open on a Saturday. I'd been wanting to try this place for a while because it's owned by the people who run Robin Room and Johnson Public House and I'm a fan of both places. We ordered an iced tea and some grapefruit juice to start. I really enjoyed my iced tea; I find that at a lot of places, iced tea ends up just watery tea water but the tea here was flavorful and refreshing. My boyfriend's grapefruit juice tasted really fresh (and I'm sure would taste awesome with some gin...). We split a slice of coffee cake and the Mexican pizza, Taco-Bell style, which is a couple of fried tortillas, refried beans, a fried egg, jalapenos, chipotles, and cilantro all stacked up together. It was super, super satisfying and just the right amount of food. The coffee cake was perfectly warm and crumbly and had a yummy layer of blueberries at the bottom. Our food came out quick and we ate every bite. Since we were planning on filling up with beer right after, we didn't order the cocktails but we'll definitely be back to try them -- they sounded delicious. read more

My review only speaks to the late night burger. I visited around 11 PM on a Saturday. There was an open table and a friendly and quick server. Small, cool space, a little trendy if you like that (or not). It was pretty crowded when we went but we were able to grab bar seats. Not sure if we would have stayed otherwise, it got pretty cramped in there. Their menu is small and they serve small plates. It's a little pricey for what you get. I think it was $10 or $11 for 2 perogies. We tried the escargot which was pretty good and was served with grilled bread for the delicious buttery sauce they came in. I do only wish they were served in their shells. We also ordered the sausage with mashed potatoes. The sausage was luke warm but definitely homemade. The mashed potatoes were good but the dish needed some texture, everything was just kinda soft. They had some nice craft cocktails and the bartender was friendly. Overall, it was a nice space and we may be back to try more to decide if the food is really worth the price. read more

We went for the Friday Martini Lunch (it is only open for lunch on Fridays). Due to the unique shape of the building, the interior is smaller. It has a nice long bar and secondary bar, but only maybe 5-7 tables. The decor kind of reminded me of a tiki place with some bamboo-ish shelves and big leafy wall paper. We started by ordering drinks, a traditional (negroni) and an original (crazy monkey). Both were very good. The drinks menu had a nice selection of original cocktails and then other spirits available, each on its own page, with a few cocktails that highlight that spirit. We ordered two dishes. The first was the mushroom tacos. They were well seasoned with a kick of spice on corn tortillas topped with cilantro. Very tasty. The second dish was a goat cheese stuffed ravioli topped with roasted beats, fried onions and tarragon. The dish was delicious and the tarragon took it over the top. Felt like I was in a big city by the vibe of Mint Mark on a Friday night. After moving to Madison in October 2022, I had read about MM and knew this was a place I wanted to try. We had first attempted to dine here on a Saturday evening in January but the wait was over 2 hours so I was diligent about snagging one of the few reservations they make available for this past Friday! The table was ready on time and once seated were helped right away - our server, Lauren, was great! She helped us order a few things, all delicious. The only thing I'd note is they do all come as ready so for two people getting five plates at once was a mistake . We ordered the garlic knots, cauliflower, fish fry, burger, and the skillet cookie. All had complex flavors and so flavorful. We loved the cauliflower! The skillet cookie had so many great layers of flavor, that alone is worth the trip! I opted for a NA cocktail and my husband took the martini and a beer. We enjoyed MM and look forward to returning in the spring with a new menu I'm sure! read more

While the food was pretty good it was completely ruined by the utter lack of service. We were originally told the wait for a table of four would be 45 minutes to an hour, though it ended up being over than an hour thirty. While it is not always in control of the restaurant there were multiple open tables that just needed to be cleaned a little bit up to thirty minutes before we were eventually sat and as they don't take reservations this is somewhat unacceptable as they were lying about the reason for the hold up when we could see the tables were open, and we were told our table was being set 20 minutes before we were seated. Once we were eventually seated there were still multiple open tables that just needed to be cleaned though people who had been waiting for 30 minutes plus were being told they were waiting on people to get out of their seats. The hosts was saying whatever with almost nothing he said being actually accurate for the situation. Our waiter seemed to write us off after no one ordered any alcohol. The bill ended up being over 150$ by a lot and the service was lackluster and they seemed understaffed for waiters but during this mess they had the time and resources to pay a photographer to make their mess of a restaurant look good on camera. read more

Mint Mark is one of those places you just feel like you're being hugged by their food. What do I mean by that? You can feel the love and care put into every dish and drink that you're served. I've been to MM a few times since they opened and each time has been phenomenal. One of my favorite items to get is their biscuit. You may be thinking, what the heck are you doing ordering a biscuit?! My friend, once you take the first bite, you will thank me and understand. The biscuit is so warm and airy with their delicious garlic honey butter is one part breakfast and one part side dish. It is so worth it! Prior to Covid, I would always request a seat by the kitchen to see the chefs creating their culinary masterpieces. I would always grab one of their expertly crafted cocktails to pair with their expertly crafted food items. They are inventive, fun, and delicious cocktails. With their carryout menu, they also have a great selection of carryout beer and cocktail kits! With the carry out menu season, I have gotten the Mint Mark burger a few times and it has got to be one of my favorite burgers in Madison. The meat is juicy and cooked to perfection, with their secret sauce, cheddar, and caramelized onions, it is worth the cheat meal! If you are in the neighborhood, definitely check out Mint Mark! Went for the first time on a Saturday night. The wait was long (around an hour) but the host was friendly and didn't seem overwhelmed. We were able to put our name in and head to another spot for a drinks. Sat at the bar by the kitchen for dinner. It wasn't the best spot for four people but we made it work. The owner greeted us himself and was very personable and warm. He explained the menu and told us about his favorites. He was preparing burgers for late night (haven't done this yet but will soon!) and explained the process to us. We shared a few things but were most impressed by the biscuit (silly, I know). The charcuterie was also very well done. The mussels were recommended by several people but we didn't love them. Also, the space is adorable and unique. Love the wallpaper! This is, without hesitation, my new favorite restaurant in Madison. We came for my boyfriend's birthday and were blown away by the thoughtfulness of both the dishes and decor. We lucked out in sitting at the kitchen bar and getting served by none other than chef Sean Pharr. His open, down to earth demeanor resonates throughout the entire restaurant. I walked in and felt like I was home! Don't forget it's tapas style, so communal sharing with your party is a must. The exception to this rule is ordering the fish fry, hamms battered blue gill. Here's what was in our roster: the biscuit with cultured butter and honey, French onion Pierogis with caramelized onion and gruyere, chilled salmon served over coleslaw, roasted acorn squash coated in bulgogi sauce, and Roman gnocchi (meatballs) served with greens. WOW, literally a mouthful. An amalgamation of flavor profiles, we left feeling so incredibly satisfied. The pierogis knocked our socks off, but honestly so did everything else. 5/5 for every. single. dish. The menu rotates 6/12 items each week, so we'll be enjoying seasonal dishes here for a long time to come. All the rave reviews of this place are completely justified. However, the plus side is that most of their menu changes daily. For me the real allure of this tiny little gem is the decor (it's as if you stepped inside a hidden little cabana) and the amazing cocktails they have ON TAP. The sangrita is divine and their pint prices are decent for a place that's charging $11 per plate. (Pint of craft beer for $5.) As other reviews have said, I'd come for the drinks and decor, and possibly share one plate of something you're really interested in if you're not trying to break your budget too much. read more

One of my new favorites. This is a small plates, vegan/vegetarian-friendly (YASS!) restaurant with an ever-changing menu, so the food is always fresh! We shared 4 plates between two of us and we were STUFFED. We went here for the first time on a Wednesday night and the restaurant was pretty full - which says a lot about a place! The food and drinks are amazing. We got the spring gin and tonic and the pink lady. Both were gorgeous and yummy! Now, let me tell you about their cauliflower, holy shiite. I'm not a huge cauliflower fan but I would eat this every. single. day. They roast it in something garlicky and delicious and it is incredible. It was served with golden raisins, which I'm not a super fan of, but they definitely added a nice bit of flavor to cut the after-taste of the cauliflower. Their pirogies are stuffed with curry like ingredients. It's a combination I can't believe I've never seen on a menu. But that's what makes this place special. Mint Mark combines amazing flavors with comfort foods to make a pairing you can't resist. So, why only four stars instead of five? If I could give 4.5, I would. The portions of some dishes are quite small. Both the pirogies and the biscuits only came with two pieces each. For $10 I expected a dish I could share with my friends. Not something I wanted to hoard to myself so I could indulge in the goodness. In short, go to this spot! Go. Go. Go. Possibly more consistent than Forequarter, but with less of a unique flavor profile, but easily in the top tier of Madison small plates restaurants (along with Forequarter and maybe Estrellon, Pig in a Fur Coat if you haven't been). Brunch in general feels like classed-up and not ridiculously heavy versions of traditional favorites. Their homemade hot sauce is outright fantastic.
