I would give them 0 stars if that were an option. This has easily been my worst healthcare professional experience and the team is clearly pushing unnecessary and invasive procedures on patients that do not require it. When I went in for my regular dental cleaning, I was informed that I would need a "deep cleaning" procedure because of progressive gum disease. I was also never seen by the dentist or the periodontist. Upon further research, I learnt that a deep cleaning procedure is invasive, requires local anesthesia, and a hygienist going into your gums for rootplaning. For someone who has very good hygiene and flosses on the regular, this was quite surprising. I was pushed to schedule two appointments for this "deep cleaning" that would involve a hefty out of pocket charge. Skeptical of this diagnosis, I went and got a second and third opinion with periodontists and was informed that my gums/teeth were completely normal. Avoid Mint Dental at all costs. They are attempting to oversell unnecessary, wasteful, and invasive services. read more

**DO NOT GO HERE** I regret no standing up and leaving before letting the dentist go in my mouth. To start, when I walked in it did not resemble a dentist office at all by first glance (fyi - this was my first and only time going here). There was no sign saying "Mint" or any indicator that I was in the right place. I had to ask the woman behind the desk who didn't even notice I walked in if I was at Mint Dental. I was not even signed in at the front desk, or given paperwork to fill out. They brought me right back to the examination room. When walking to my examination room, there were multiple all white naked mannequins standing in the hallways...very strange. Once I was seated in the dentist chair I took a glance around and noticed hair all over the dirty floors and that the music was being played from a bluetooth speaker sitting at the foot of my chair. This place is cheap looking and disgusting. When the dental assistant came in she IMMEDIATELY tried to do x-rays. I had to say "No, I just had x-rays taken from my previous dentist a couple months ago, can't you use those?" She insisted that they needed new x-rays and didn't even inquire about who my old dentist was or when/what work was done. And like I mentioned, I hadn't filled out any paperwork yet so there is no way for them to know who previously worked on my teeth. Now at my previous dentist, I was in the process of having cavities filled but moved to Boston before it was finished. This is why I was at a new Dentist office to start. Anyways, the assistant asked my what toothpaste I used (I use sensodyne) and she told me I need a prescription toothpaste...but they can sell it to me right there in the office for a lower price. She told me the name of it, which I now forget...but I googled it and it was a $80 toothpaste. WHAT THE HECK!? At this point I knew this place was not right! After the assistant checked my gums and gave me a cleaning, I was brought into another room where I was told the dentist would do an exam. Again, the floor of this room was covered in hair, but there was no speaker this time. Maybe worst of all, the piece of dental equipment which has the light shining into your mouth was being held together with RUBBER BANDS! I sat in this room for AN HOUR before the dentist came in. During the first 5 minutes of this hour I completed my paperwork on an Ipad they handed me. The dentist was dressed in street clothes her hair was not tied back. I thought it was odd that she was not wearing the classic white dentist coat...but no big deal. She spoke to me for what seemed like 20 minutes before looking in my mouth. After she did her thing, she asked me if I was interested in any whitening treatments etc and I was given a small bag which read "MINT". Inside was a loose, unwrapped wooden toothbrush and some unsealed powder toothpaste. I threw this out as soon as I left. Handing out unsealed products to patients is unacceptable and unsanitary. When the dentist walked me out to the reception desk, she handed the receptionist the 'prescription toothpaste' and said, "She'll take this too." I spoke up and said, "No, actually I am not interested in purchasing the toothpaste." They said they would email me to schedule my next appointment to start filling cavities, and I just said "ok' and left. They never emailed me. I think that this place is such a scam. I strongly advise that please no one go here. It is unprofessional, unsanitary and not a place you want to go to have someone working inside your mouth. read more

Stay away from Downtown Dental Studio. I had two visits at Downtown Dental Studio and each time I left extremely frustrated. Based on other reviews I have read, they are clearly trying to push unnecessary procedures and giving bad dental advice to their patients. I would describe this practice as dishonest, unethical and a complete waste of your time and money. So many things went wrong, I will try to keep this short so you will read on but this is just the tip of the iceberg: In my brief time here, I experienced extremely poor customer service and long wait times. They actually had to split my cleaning into two appointments because the doctor wasn't available to see me after my cleaning. When I came back, they indicated that I needed Invisalign, a gum graft, 4 existing fillings re-done and 3 cavities filled. I will say, I get cleanings every 6 months and haven't had a cavity or any issues in years. My last cavity was 5 or more years ago. Even though I take good care of my teeth I thought, okay, it's been a while I could have a cavity. But, after hearing their other ridiculous diagnoses, I will 100% be getting a second opinion before I do anything. I had braces for 4 years when I was younger and I didn't wear my retainer right after so I do have a little bit of an overbite. The doctor and hygienist made me feel like my mouth was going to deteriorate if I didn't get braces again or Invisalign to fix my bite. They indicated that because of this overbite I have 3 cavities in my back teeth and 3 fillings that "look like" they have cavities underneath them so we should re-do those too. Additionally, my bite is causing my gums to pull back on two teeth so I need to have a gum graft done immediately. I have never even heard of a gum graft before the doctor came in explained the procedure in 5 seconds and let me know I could make an appointment at the front desk if I "understand it" or I could set a time for a consultation if I have questions.... Feeling stressed, I went to the receptionist to see what the costs would be on everything. Except she lost my insurance info so she couldn't check. I gave her the info again and she wrote it down and said she would check the next day and email me everything. It's been a week and I haven't heard back. Giving two stars because I liked the cleanliness of the office and the staff were friendly. When I first started going, they had told me I needed a few fillings, they referred me out to get my wisdom teeth taken out (and the surgeon they referred me to was great), and they recommended some drilling on my deep grooves. I figured I'd just get my teeth to the level Kasia wanted and then maintain. At none of my future appointments I needed any other work done .. besides them always trying to sell me on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING -- invisalign, night guards, everything. But that was easy enough to ignore. I hate to say it but, then the environment definitely changed after they moved buildings. My turning point was when I got xrays this past spring and the hygienist told me that I had three cavities and required a crown because one of them was under a prior filling and it would be too much drilling on the tooth. Kasia or any other Dentist never came over to talk to me. The hygienist had clearly messaged a dentist on the computer about my xrays and was explaining to me the process but I was extremely turned off by the whole matter. I would've appreciated talking to the dentist before making two appointments to let her drill off half my tooth!! I honestly had no pain on the tooth, and now was skeptical as I only had one filling prior to seeing Kasia.. so I'm not sure if they were drilling too soon on my teeth (not that it'd be their fault if I developed a cavity underneath, but I was uneasy about them). I ended up going to another dentist in December who took their own xrays as I was a new patient. I didn't tell him about my prior dentist recommending a crown until after he told me that I needed NO work done. He was very surprised. Maybe the area healed on its own (I had been using a high fluoride toothpaste on it) but I will definitely be taking my business to another dentist now and no longer recommend here. read more

Only reason I'm giving two stars and not one is because I decided to add one star for the friendly staff. However, I could not get myself to go back to this place. I had an upcoming appointment and battled going in my head so much that it was too late and I had to pay the missed appointment fee of $75 and let them know I do not wish to reschedule. These people must be getting a great commission from Invisalign! During my first consultation the hygienist and the doctor both heavily recommended Invisalign as the main option for filling the space of a removed molar that I had removed in college. They didn't go over any other option, like an implant, and spoke very negatively about it when I asked and said I should just go with Invisalign instead of just giving me details so I can be informed of my options. Only info I walked out with was the Invisalign payment plan and procedure explanation. I said I would think about it and let them know. Each time I went back for a cleaning I got the SAME Invisalign speech again and a lot of pressure from every person to decide on a consultation date to get them. It's so exhausting, specially when I said I would let them know when I was ready to decide. Interestingly enough, I had 5 other coworkers who also went here from recommendations of another co-worker and THEY WERE ALL ENCOURAGED TO GET INVISALIGN AS WELL. It wasn't until they changed their office location that I decided to not go back again. This new place has been designed like a mental institution. EVERYTHING is white and there are these very weird naked mannequins standing in the hallways that are apparently for coats and things. It was toooo weird for a dental office. I've been a patient for over 2 years. The staff is always friendly and professional. If I have any issues with the bill they are usually pretty good about dropping charges if I'm not happy. Can't give 5 stars since I don't recall the last time i actually saw Dr. Szary. I went to Dr. Szary on the recommendation of a friend. I didn't have a dentist in Boston, and I was hopeful that this would work out given the convenience of their downtown location. One minute into my cleaning the hygienist told me that I needed invisalign braces. I didn't have braces growing up and I was never told by any of the several dentists that I've been to that I needed them. This was the first red flag. During the cleaning the hygienist proceeded to point out several cavities. I hadn't been to a dentist for a few years, so I expected that. After the cleaning and Xrays Dr. Szary came in to see me. She proceeded to tell me that I had 11 cavities and needed braces. This floored me as I've only had 2 cavities in my entire life, this seemed excessive. So a few days later I asked them to send my results to my old dentist so I could get a second opinion. I wouldn't get several thousands of dollars done on my house or car without getting a second opinion, my mouth is no different. The office didn't take too kindly to this and sent me a fairly rude email back about my "questioning the Dr.'s diagnosis". After some prodding they sent my xrays to my old dentist. My old dentist told me that I certainly didn't have 11 cavities. I found another Boston area dentist, and to my delight, I had two cavities, and no mention of braces, invisalign or otherwise. Most of the positive reviews seem to be from people who are having a lot of work done. I'd highly recommend a second opinion or a different first opinion. I tried this dentist when I first moved to Boston in 2011. They were nice and the office was clean and my first visit was good. Over the next two years my visits got more and more ridiculous, every time I had an appointment they came up with some expensive procedure I needed, grafting on my gums, and even invisalign (I had braces and still have straight teeth?). Even routine issues like cavities would end up being twice the price because I needed some special "antibacterial" type of filling. I had gone to Downtown Dental Studio from 2012 to 2014, after which I moved out-of-state and unfortunately lost access to a wonderful facility with a caring staff. Over that time, I had X-Rays, cleanings, and cavity fillings. Dr. Kasia Szary and Dr. Jackie had mainly serviced me, although other staff members had done quality work on my teeth in the past. They were always approachable, informative, and great at putting me at ease for dental work - which can be a little jarring for the mind. The staff had also been great at making me better work towards better oral hygiene. They are very thorough with the state of your oral hygiene and have been the best team of dentists I have ever had. It is a shame that I am no longer in Boston, but I definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new dental office. Billing/processing insurance claims are done at ease with the staff as they handle the latter - another step of the ways to not worry about. For Financial District-based workers, the office location is very convenient, so I would also recommend them for people looking to get both great quality and ease of logistics in making it to the dental office. read more

This place is great. I had two visits - one for a cleaning and patient set up, the next one to get a filling. Both visits were great: convenient location, courteous staff, easy enough to get an appointment for a downtown location and the most important professional doctor. Dr. Kasia is pleasant to communicate with, patient in explaining and does her job very well (at least nothing has backfired at me so far). I scheduled my second visit (to get a filling) during lunch break and had roughly an hour. I was a bit skeptical of my plan, but decided to go for it. 60 minutes was exactly enough to walk to the office, wait 5-7 mins to get seated and seen by doctor, get dental work done, pay for the service and come back to work. Dr. Szary was recommended to me by a friend who simply said "she is an artist." My kids and I recently had our first cleaning appointments at DDS24 and I was very pleased with the service. First of all, the office is beautiful and state-of-the-art. Instead of filling out forms you are handed an iPad and offered refreshments. My kids were entertained by the cable tv and comfy waiting area while I had an amazing cleaning. They use a "cavitron" machine which is much better than the polishing I am used to. Dr. Szary noticed some chipped bonding on my front teeth from a prior dentist and fixed it on the spot. The hygenist was also great with my kids, explaining everything and making them at ease. Everyone at the office was very kind and serious about their work, and I got the sense that they like working there. Overall it was a positive visit and we will definitely be back! read more

Dr. Kaiser Szary is at my tippy top level of trust and confidence, for people I interact with in the world. None higher anywhere. I have a needy set of teeth (my Moms genes not my Dads). I always say yes to anything she suggests and am glad to be in a position to do so. She gives senior executive style reasons while she works and that is what I want a I like to know what is going on with the treatments. She has chosen her staff well, they are delightful, all fine good professionals. And, the place is a hoot. She has clean elegant modern Central European taste and her office is set up that way. I started going to this dentist when I first moved to Boston because it was convenient to my work. It was Downtown Dental at the time and now Mint. The dentist is nice and I went to them for a few years but I honestly feel like they did so much unnecessary work on my mouth over the years. I had tons of cavities refilled and even a gum graft, and spent thousands of dollars over the course of a few years. It seemed like every time I went for my cleaning they found something new that needed to be done- I literally dreaded going there because I knew it was going to cost me at least $500 (and I have dental insurance). I've since switched to my sister's dentist closer to home and I haven't needed one single procedure done in a few years. My six month cleanings are a pleasure and I know if my new dentist suggests some needed work, that I actually need it. Make sure to get a second opinion! read more

Over the past 3 years I have done every kind of dental work you could think of with MINT - gum surgery, crowns, implants, fillings, cleanings, emergency dental work after a cycling accident...they were fantastic throughout everything. This dentist office and staff are such wonderful, reassuring people. I work in the medical field and I have yet to see such an accomodating, communicative and supportive office. I took one star off because for a dental cleaning and invisalign consult, it took 2-2.5 hours, granted I did need extensive cleaning, but I rarely have appointments this long for anything so if this is the case, may be a heads up from the office would be good. Carve out a chunk of time if you may also be in this situation. My experience: I stumbled across them on zocdoc, saw they took my insurance and I just needed a cleaning so I was like great, booked. Booking and prefilling out my patient forms was VERY easy and meant I had ZERO repetitive forms to fill out when I arrived. I walked into the office and thought I must have walked into a high end spa or something because the decor was beautiful and soothing, there was some light background music and even infusers wafting some aromatherapy that I now have to buy. I did not wait long, and met with a dental hygienist who I told my dental shameful secrets including all the work, how many presidents had been elected since my last dental appointment etc. The whole time she was nonjudgemental and supportive and offering me great, realistic tips on how to improve my dental health and work it into my busy routine. She then took some xrays which they use a special machine I forget but there's WAY less radiation than the usual and the xrays are uploaded to their system automatically. It also means that if you have to change providers because of moves etc it is seamless for them to send your health info. They def have uptodate technology they put to great use. The dental cleaning was also very thorough and felt unrushed. Dr Szary also exceeded all expectations. She was well-read on my case and history, she performed a very thorough evaluation of my teeth and we dicussed orthodontics and Invisalign for a bit. I brought this up myself since it was also a concern I had now that it had been years after my braces and my teeth shifted. I got molds of my teeth done for diagnostic purposes which they made free of charge with my insurance, and later emailed me a video of what my teeth would look like. They offered a very steep discount on the treatment should I pursue treatment. Overall I was very happy with this visit and the efficiency and treatment I received from staff. This office is perfect for everyone, but especially for busy people who move a lot, people who ain't go no time for paperwork or medical file transfer nonsense, people who need nonjudgemental, supportive staff, and people who hate the dentist and get really anxious; this is about as soothing as it gets without taking a benzo. I'm also reading the other reviews and it does seem like they are very split so I want to add for the record, despite me not going to the dentist in years and years, Dr Szary told me I had not developed cavities. I did not have any treatments "pushed" on me or suggested. I did not have to pay anything for my appointment described above as it was a dental cleaning with standard coverage by dental insurance. I'm usually pretty wary of salespeople pushing unnecessary crap and I have experienced other dentists pushing orthodontics at a price point much higher than the invisalign discount I was offered above, and I did not get that kind of a pushy vibe from the office. read more

In short, my experience with them indicates incompetence, outright fraud, or both, which nearly cost me thousands of dollars in unnecessary fillings on 15 of my teeth. I do not exaggerate. I cannot stress this enough. Stay away, or you might spend up to thousands of dollars on fillings that you don't need at all. My last, very thorough description was rejected by Yelp so I am shortening it significantly while trying to keep the important information. I came in as a new patient, having not been to a dentist in several years. After the checkup was over, I was told I had cavities on 28 surfaces across 15 teeth, and was showed the "cavities" on the X-Rays. I was told fillings for all of these would be $3442. They were very cordial, both during the visit and over the phone later when I double-checked this diagnosis with the hygienist. Naturally, I was stunned, and wanted a second opinion. I shortly thereafter went to a trusted family-friend dentist who did a checkup and was clear that I had at most one cavity brewing in one wisdom tooth, but that was it. Several months later, I found a different, local dentist (now my current dentist) who examined my mouth and found no cavities. I should add that both this dentist and my family friend looked at the very same X-Rays that were taken by Downtown Dental Studio, and they both said there were no cavities apparent from the X-Rays. The X-Ray "cavities" that were shown to me at Downtown Dental apparently were just artifacts of the photo - not actually cavities. If the second and third opinions weren't enough, it has now been over 3 years, and I have developed only two cavities since then: one of which was the wisdom-tooth that was "brewing". I hadn't gotten a cleaning/checkup in at least 1.5 years, so that probably didn't help. None of the other "cavities" found by Downtown Dental have caused me any pain or trouble of any kind, so I think it is safe to say they didn't exist. In summary, if I had trusted Downtown Dental Studio, I would currently have fillings in 15 of my teeth (or, at the very least, 13 teeth) that I don't need, and would have spent thousands of dollars to do so. Again, I do not wish to slander anyone, so I am not making anything up or exaggerating. I still have my records from the incident which I just checked, so I am not going off of faulty memory regarding the numbers. read more

Wow - this office finally just saw my review from April and emailed me asking me to reconsider it...twice. The office manager's excuse is that she's a yelper to. Really? Forget the direct calls and emails to their office I made 5 months ago, the ones that they disregarded. Now they want to address the issues. But their form of addressing the issues is to lay blame on everyone else but themselves. They've even attempted to rewrite history by changing the quote of the gum graphs they gave me from around $10K to under $1000. I have the handwritten notes their receptionist created as she explained the costs to me here in my records, something they apparently failed to keep a copy of. Anyway, the emails this morning are now bordering on harassment as the office manager is insisting on having the last word. Unprofessional to say the least. Me and my husband have changed dentist. Your staff is nice but you guys overcharge and feel like we're getting ripped off. You charge for fluoride which is included in our plan and try to charge for services not needed. I feel that it's not a doctors office but a place just trying to make a buck. Mint's staff will constantly try to push unnecessary procedures down your throat and suck money out of you. I came here because my regular dentist is not in the country. All of a sudden, during this first appointment, they concluded I should have 4 procedures, even after Dr. Szary told me that my teeth are extremely healthy. She urged me to consider getting braces (though I already had braces growing up) and change the filling in my teeth simply for precautionary reasons. They also charged me with a missed appointment ($125) for one of these unnecessary procedures, even though I had never confirmed said appointment. In general, they will go to any extent to take your money, even at the expense of their professionalism and reputation. read more

Just returned from another great visit to the dentist which sounds so strange. But seriously, it was great and not the usual association most have with the dentist. This was my first time in the new location (used to be Park St Dental) and wow, it is insane! It looks like a hip lounge or restaurant in NYC and definitely not a dental practice. They clearly invested a lot in the technology and renovations and it is unbelievable . I was already a huge fan of Dr. Szary (Kasia) and her staff, but this put them over the top. Examples, water/tea/ coffee while waiting in the lounge. There were an acupuncturist and massage therapist working there today as well! Very cool books and magazines while I waited although I opted to read on the iPad they provided. The most important, however, was the continued quality treatment I have received. I had a cleaning today and also got checked by Kasia for a gap behind my back molar. We've been monitoring the gap to see if it grows as it has potential to become something worse (cavity, root damage I think) but I love that Kasia insisted we watch it carefully before doing something more serious (and potentially expensive). My old dentist loved to jump right to the most extreme treatment. I will be going back to DDS24 in three months to monitor the gap (no charge) and get a massage in the new spa area next door. I definitely recommend this if anyone is in the downtown area and needs a dentist..... read more

I switched over to DDS24 when I moved into the city. I picked them because of the proximity to my work, they accepted my insurance & their willingness to see me on such short notice (I was having a toothache the day before Christmas eve). I had no idea how much I was going to like this place. It is really nice inside, very modern. I have made them my primary dentist and am now doing invisalign with them, so I am here pretty often. I come into the office for my treatments, everyone knows my name, the staff is young and funny, and the play good music, not the elevator music you hear in other offices. I actually don't mind going to the dentist when I used to dread it. They are pretty awesome about working with my schedule & my appointments are on time which is great since I am usually on my lunch break. I recommend this place to everyone. read more

I moved to Boston recently, and my experience at Downtown Dental has been outstanding. I was in a car accident as a child, which required me to need crowns on three teeth. As I grew up, the teeth no longer fit my smile. Dr. Szary helped convince me the potential of my smile by replacing the crowns, and the results were unbelievable. I am so incredibly grateful for her work. Also, Christine was absolutely fantastic, helping me navigate the entire process, from payment to how long each appointment would take. I started visiting DDS this past spring after my prior dentist closed her practice and left town. It's always painful transitioning to a new doctor, especially a new dentist, after seeing someone who you've grown comfortable with over several years, but the switch to DDS was pretty seamless. I've been there twice now, once for an exam/cleaning and more recently for a teeth whitening. The facilities are modern, the staff friendly and organized, and the care top-notch. I never knew going to a dentist could be like this. A truly great experience from start to finish. It starts when you walk in to a beautifully designed, modern and welcoming space, which feels more like entering a spa then going to a dentist's office. What stands out even more is the experience of being worked on by the dentist and hygienists. Everyone on staff is kind, caring, positive and helpful. They understand that coming to the dentist can be stressful and scary, and they do everything they can to mitigate that.
