I love everything about this shop! From the moment you walk in your greeted by a stunning, bright and open layout that just feels good and makes sense. Retail bottles are cleanly organized and described on your right hand side with a beautiful bar and tasting area at the far end of the space. The selection is top notch, with a wide range of artisan, small production wine from around the world to choose from. I found they had the greatest selection of reasonably priced under $20 bottles than any other shop I've been in that focuses on these types of producers! They write descriptions for all these relatively inexpensive wines to make it easy to get to know the wine and winery. However, I like that they don't do descriptions for their large selection of more expensive wines because that encourages you to ask a staff member, who are all super knowledgeable, friendly, and can tell you so much more! They only do tastings on Wednesday and Saturday and it's always a fun comparison of a specific style. When I was in it was "chillable reds" which showed a huge range even within this one type of wine! My only complaint is that my house is too far away to visit more often :) read more

Super cute wine shop right in Jack London Square, a block off Broadway. The inside is has a clean, well-lit, minimal layout that is well organized. I loved how they had descriptions on all the wines. Minimo is an experience not to be missed. Erin is an expert on all levels of what she sells. She sells wines that she has toured Europe to find at individual wineries. Best of all, you can tell her what kind of flavour you like at the budget level you'd prefer - and she can then make recommendations for what you'd probably enjoy drinking. The great thing about European wines is that they blend varietals for tastes that are just not available in California wines plus there is a historic knowledge of winemaking that goes back centuries. Also, Spain and France have access to much better corks! (Erin does not sell USA, Down Under, etc., wines). I suppose many of the European wines are made from the great, great, grand parents of the vines that were then planted in California. Another feature of Minimo is that there are regular tasting events in which you can discover and learn more about specific wines. Anyway, Erin and her associates at Minimo are unfailing polite, professional, and helpful. I can't recommend Minimo highly enough. read more

Cute spot that I didn't know existed. Unlike most of my reviews this one will be relatively short and sweet. I came here with one of my best friends as she invited me for bubbles. I can't resist free wine or bubbles. As this is located in the Jack London area, we walked over from her place near 12th Street BART. There's plenty of lighting and seating inside. We were greeted by the friendly staff and served our first class of bubbles. There were three bottles to taste and with each one were learned about the grapes, where it was made, and a fun fact. Something that separates this from other places that I've been are the chips! They had bowls of crinkly potato chips. Suffice to say, that was my dinner. Hehe. I would probably go back to taste on my way to hangout in JLS. read more

Erin and her staff are extremely knowledgeable, the space is curated to perfection, the wine club is fun to explore each month, and a 10% discount on cases has been great during shelter-in-place. Oh my god. If you love wine, this is the best wine shop I've ever encountered. Natural. Minimalist. Great taste. Affordable.

I do not award these 5 stars frivolously; I literally cannot think of how Minimo could be a better wine shop. Let's start with the sensory experience of entering the establishment: beautifully lit and spacious, modern without being sterile. Wander about the free-standing showcases that hold about a dozen different bottles each, grouped by type. There are lots more on the back wall. Erin and Sarah stock a lot of wines, maybe 200 or so I'd guess, but not so many that you are immobilized with an onslaught of options. When you see a group of wines that interests you, you can read about the individual wines, or choose something by label cuteness (my previous method) or get some guidance from one of the owners (my current method). Their breadth of knowledge about wine is astonishing, yet they are totally down to earth. Looking for something to eat with BBQ or ramen? No problem! Finally, I have to especially recommend the weekly Wednesday wine-tastings they do, 5pm - 7pm. I've only attended one, but it was truly mind-expanding, like peeking into an extra dimension. This is by far the best wine shop I have EVER known! First, the owners are amazing, knowledgeable and friendly. I have held at least 3 holiday celebrations at Minimo and all my guest have raved about the wine selections and the simply stated high quality and elegant decor! I feel like Erin and Sarah are more like family than friends because they bring their heart and consideration to the table with every decision they make to ensure that their clients are satisfied. Run, don't walk if you are looking for great customer service and a wine shop to call home. I love that Erin knows me and my husband's palate and can make wine suggestions to us that are ALWAYS spot on. I can't say enough about Minimo. Love, love, love Minimo! Sarah and Erin are great. Great place to chill and have a glass or four of whatever they're pouring. They introduced me to my current fave wine (Johan) and numerous other great natural wine producers that I would never have discovered. They're super knowledgeable and passionate about their wines, and have never steered me wrong when it comes to picking the right bottle (BBQ, party, steak dinner, etc.). Awesome new spot in Jack London, just opened on Tuesday. A wine shop dedicated to smaller, sustainably made wine, owned by a lovely woman, Erin. The space is beautifully designed, lots of clean lines with the industrial feel typical of this hood. There is a really nice variety of wines in terms of varietals and regions, with very reasonable prices. They will be having tastings I think a couple of times per week. You can also go there, buy a bottle, and share with some friends at the bar area or at their communal table. Overall, wonderful addition to the neighborhood. read more

Oakland Crush has convinced me that drinking wine during the day is a very sophisticated, educational activity. I have almost no knowledge about wine but stop in occasionally for wine tastings, recommendations and friendly conversation with the owner Erin. She cares so much about wine it's contagious! She remembers the tastes of regular customers and took time to explain to me the difference between the taste of slate and gravel mineral-ity in white wine (w/o taking any umbrage at my suggestion of a variety of other rocks! ). I've learned lots about tasting already and look forward to learning more. All the wine in the shop is carefully selected and seems to run between 12-40$ with plenty below $20. Lots of interesting selections with a focus on natural wines, including everythign from local producers to Croatian micro-lots from adorable family vineyards. They also offer olives, cheese, and other nibbles, as well as seating to make it perfect place for splitting a bottle of wine with friends. I have seen a string of cute neighborhood dogs (always offered water and a treat as Erin's generosity extends to canines) and it seems to be becoming a local hub in a beautiful minimal space. Yesterday evening three of us were ambling down 3rd Street toward Broadway and looked in at the inviting sight of this wine shop. We met Erin, the owner, and TJ, and we immediately felt relaxed and welcome. Erin specializes in smaller wineries that follow sustainable practices in the U.S. and Europe. And Erin knows these wines! Because my wife is from the Balkans and we spend a lot of time there, I asked about wines from that area. She pulled out four wines from Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro. I was amazed and we bought two at prices that I thought were quite fair. Did I mention that the store interior is beautiful and features a spectacular ash table? This shop is great gift to our city. This gorgeous gem is a beautiful place to open a bottle with friends (you can bring your own picnic - it's genius!) or simply stock up to enjoy at home. The owner, Erin, is incredibly knowledgeable and totally approachable. I was so impressed with the first couple bottles she recommended for me that I went back to get her thoughts on every single wine I would serve from Thanksgiving to New Years. I gave her my budget and menus and she personally curated a selection of amazing and affordable wines that made me a hero (and very happy camper) for the whole holiday season. It was incredible! We had our company party at Minimo and it was awesome! Erin and Sarah are very flexible and accommodating and set up a time for us to be there outside of their normal tasting hours. They put together a flight for us of interesting California varietals along with a cheese and snacks plate to accompany with the wines. The room is beautiful, modern, and elegant and they have a nice open space. We had about 17 people there at their nice big table in the back. Minimo is a wonderful spot to taste unusual and delicious wines. The owners are enthusiastic and they really know their stuff. Hands down my favorite spot in the bay area for wine tasting. read more

Stopped in after leaving the brewery next door. Was excited to see such a large variety of wines. The employee was very sweet and welcoming. I wanted to support a new local business and ended up leaving with a bottle of UnLitro. I have the mind of a child and was drawn to the unique bottle. Unfortunately two months later I had guests over and decided to pop it open only to find that the wine was spoiled. There was a weird sour carbonation to it. This ruined my entire experience. I went to Minimo on a Saturday afternoon with a group of friends who invited me for a wine tasting: 3 wines for $15. This was actually my first wine tasting event experience, as I was always intrigued by wine-tasting signs I've seen at such places but intimidated (as it seemed like such events would be too high-end and snobby for me haha). My first wine-tasting experience was neither of those things, but a very pleasant, relaxed, and tasty experience. The staff was extremely friendly, nice, and approachable and were very knowledgeable about the wines. I loved their descriptions and stories they told about the wines' origins and history. The wines our group tried were red wines from France (and had names which I can neither pronounce or write accurately) and they were all from small, family-owned wineries. The ambience was also just right and great for groups, as the space is very open and bright. It also has a moderate noise-level, allowing you to have good conversations with your friends since you can hear each other speak clearly. Overall, Minimo is a great, affordable, and casual wine tasting venue. I will definitely come back for a second wine tasting and to check out there other selections when I'm in the area. read more

I am back in Oakland visiting today and I'm literally heading there now. We needed up buying 6 bottles. They packed them nicely for us to take on the plane. Took the time to make recommendations. I feel that quality Bay Area customer service is practically nonexistent; however, customer service at Minimo is excellent. The owners are super helpful, knowledgeable, and sweet. The wine selection is awesome, and the prices are super reasonable. I go to Minimo 2-3 times per month to work on my dissertation. I purchase a bottle of wine and cheese/crackers, and I joyfully work for hours. It's an amazing spot!
