This is pretty typical Chinese food. I've been coming here at least 10 years. Usually I pick up Chinese food when my wife doesn't feel like cooking or we got back home late. We've had twice cooked pork, Gen Tso's, beef +broccoli, egg rolls, sweet+sour chicken and all soup. The dumpling fried or steamed are what you find anywhere. The negative reviews need to be examined very closely. Here's my theory: We live in a world with a generation of people who easily get their feelings bruised. When this area had a greater concentration of transplanted NY-ers or descendants of city folk, people were more accustomed to gruff conversation. The young man's english skills in here aren't great. Sometimes his reply could be interpreted as gruff. He yells in Chinese to the kitchen help. Sometimes they yell back. Everything is on display here - you can watch them cook your food - there is no kitchen in back. It's all transparent. People in Bethel are scared of this behavior. They think they should be walking out with participation trophies as customer of the hour or something. If they think you talked tough to them here in Bethel, they will gather their friends and bravely face you down by writing a collaboration of bad reviews on Yelp. Trust me, I sometimes am told I have the lowest threshold shull bit than alost anyone, and this guy who runs the place has never been anything less than polite, providing decent Chinese food at a reasonable price. I am really dismayed at the number of people trying to ruin the livelihood of a hardworking guy over what was probably hurt feelings. I'd recommend these snowflakes toughen up, but have a shred of decency by leaving this man alone. The food here is more than acceptable and claiming you threw it out is just vindictive garbage. Having been to China and Taipei I can tell you this food is on a par with the typical competitors. I am just not the biggest fan of Chinese food otherwise I'd give 5 stars, but 4 stars is nothing to sneeze at. I wish this man well, and wish the Bethel negative people peace and more love, less hate. read more

1)Tasteless food from their entrees to their of rice. Ugh! Makes the duck sauce the star of the show. 2)Beef is disgusting taste soft and fatty. Must be soy as another person mentioned. 3)Owner always working but does not have ANY clue ,especially with an empty take out place...respectfully speaking ,they must be subsidized by China. 4)Credit where credit is due- nice polite counter guy. WORST FOOD & CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! Food was terrible.... Just called to let them know that the fried rice was over cooked and crispy as a courtesy... immediately got defensive and rude. The yelp reviews are correct when they they say the owner is rude and un-accommodating. The wife hung up on me. I called back and then I was hung up on again! They told me to drive down and prove to them that the rice was crispy! These people are the absolute worst and do not bring your local business there. I'm a Bethel resident and this place is not where it's at!!! Avoid at all costs!!! Easily the best take-out Chinese in Bethel. Consistently crisp fresh vegetables, balanced sauces, and perfectly cooked meat. I haven't tried a standard that they didn't nail. Also, the service is exceptional. Every special request is catered to and (I can't stress the importance of this enough) every single order I've placed there has been accurately filled, over a span of ten years and three kids going through various phases of dietary pickiness. Terrible if not the worst Seriously. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Sadly, even the horrible place near by on Grassy Plains is better and that place is very bad. I can not imagine this place will stay open much longer. We had two lunch combos, Sweet n Sour Pork and Szechuan Chicken. Hands down, the best Chinese food in the Bethel/Danbury area. Giving 4 stars, but they would get 5 if they delivered! Empire Szechuan needs to get their Hot and Sour soup recipe. Outstanding! Like playing Russian roulette with the food quality. The food is OK...often two out of three dishes are acceptable but on occasion the food is poor to the point where most gets discarded. Anything deep fried is terrible. We got sesame chicken and there was literally not a spec of chicken in the entire dish. We split open every single piece and only found fried dough. Brought it to them and they accused us of altering the food. The people that run the place are dispicable liers and cheap beyond all reason. If you use your debit as a credit card they treat you like you are stealing from them. When they make a mistake on the order they blame it on the customer. After receiving the wrong food I went back to be told that I ordered wrong. Never once in my life had I ordered what they gave me. They are rude and condescending and would do well to hire someone to take orders and deal with the public as they are not up to the task themselves. I've been going to Ming Garden forever. They always have pretty good Chinese food. Their Lo Mein is definitely unrivaled and I love the shrimp dishes. Probably my favorite dish though, is the Hot and Sour soup. This soup is definitely my tried and true method of getting rid of any Sore Throat, Cold or Cough - and it tastes pretty good too. Really, it must have a secret ingredient or something. Finally, the owners are really genuine and kind to me and my family every time we go there. They remember our names, give us great service and allow us to customize any dishes we have issues with. Place used to be great, until this new owner took over several years ago. Portions got smaller, all fried food items are way overcooked. Owner is always degrading the poor girl that deals with the customers, we feel so bad for her, would not give this guy a dime of our money. He deserves to be put out of business.. Ordered beef Szechuan. All the meat was a translucent, tenderized, something, and really not recognizable. Straight into garbage it went. That was a year ago, and to the day the thought of Chinese food has made me quite grossed out. Thanks Ming Garden! Today, I am feeling like Chinese food and checked Yelp for ideas and saw that others don't find the place right either. Sadly, in this part of Bethel there is not a single decent Chinese.
