Ssam wrap with boiled pork, banchan, seafood pancake
    Jessie L.

The food here is very good and serves different dishes than the typical Americanized Korean restaurant. I love their seafood pancake and the side dishes are slightly different than what I'm used to but all very good. Unfortunately, the waitresses made the experience unpleasant. We finished all our food and even gave them a higher tip as thanks for serving a bigger group. I'm pretty sure it's because we aren't Korean. I said thank you to one waitress and she stared at me, unsmiling, then looked away without a word. My entire family noticed all the waitresses had stinky expressions and didn't even bother to say anything to us when we left, it felt like we were a nuisance to them.

This is a tiny "hole-in-the-wall" Korean restaurant -- and it's fantastic! We were 2 couples and these 2 large dishes were enough for all of us plus enough to take home for lunch the next day for 1. I love bossam (steamed pork belly) and I've tried a lot of places. This place could be the best. I didn't know how they get it so tender, but the meat almost falls apart as you touch it. Amazing! The black cod stew is also the best I've had. The broth is perfect -- rich and spicy, but not overwhelming, so you can stuff taste the fish. And they are generous with the fish. I didn't know how many pieces there were ... But plenty for all 4 of us. Seating is limited. I highly recommend!

I was recommended here by a friend and fell in love with the braised fish. I came every so often to get their braised fish and trying other dishes on the menu - cold noodles, seafood pancake, and more. This place is always full of Korean families, so I know the food is authentic. The service is fast and efficient. The Korean aunties servers always make sure to cut up and split the food for you. The vibe is so friendly, it always feels like I'm over at my friend's house dining here. As for the food, everything always tastes delicious! All the side dishes are yummy and pair well with the main dishes. My must-order is the braised cod. It's full of fish with tofu and radish that has been braised in a delicious spicy sauce. The seafood pancake was crispy, and would definitely be better with more seafood. The cold noodle was refreshing, but I think it didn't pair well with the braised fish as it would with grilled galbi. Overall, I highly recommend their braised fish dishes!

very small hole in the wall restaurant. love the service and the food, which is very delicious down to the side dishes! kalguksu is very filling and hearty. i love how large the portion is. i was only able to eat half and had to take the rest to go

It was really savory and healthy.

Def will come here again. I really enjoyed the korean food here. Their banchan was fresh and yummy. It is a bit pricey but I can see why. The quality is great. I usually would drive bsck to ktown in LA but not anymore. Their stinky soybean is sooo good and hearty. If you have elderly grandparents or parents, give this place a chance. More parking in the back. Service is so nice feel like home. Small hole in thr wall.

I always come here with family for Korean comfort food! They have the best menu and atmosphere. It has a hole-in-the-wall type of feel, but it's very cute and cozy. I usually order the 들깨 수제비 because it's unbeatable in terms of flavor. My mum ordered the 곤드레밥, and the presentation for everything is always on point. The side dishes are obviously refillable, so don't be afraid to ask for more. This is my favorite Korean restaurant in the area, and I wish there were more like this!

This restaurant reminded me of Seattle's "The Pike Place Fish Market," where fresh fish has been sold for decades as employees playfully throw fish around. Though this place has been open for 10 years, we were unaware of its existence. Situated in a humble shopping center with a modest square footage, you would never imagine the quality of service and Korean food it offers. When we checked in, the restaurant was nearly full, and the busyness and energy of the staff expressed their confidence and pride in their reputation. We were first served water, and the waitstaff's recommendations already impressed us with the promise of quality and taste. We ordered Braised Black Cod, and SsamJjang Vegetables wrap combination with Spicy Marinated Pork, and Bean Casserole for the three of us to share. The fresh lettuce and vegetables, including green pepper, cucumber, carrots, wild sesame leaves, and steamed cabbage, arrived first. We also had a choice between white rice and mixed grain rice, opting for the healthier option. The presentation and quantity of the food and side dishes were attractive and impressive. When the Spicy Pork arrived, we could already tell it would taste great. The Bean Casserole was also delicious. The awaited Braised Black Cod, which they were very proud of, came last. We didn't have to wait long to encounter one of the restaurant's most popular dishes. The combination of quantity, quality, and taste was outstanding, although it was a little too sweet for one of us. The Black Cod melted in our mouths, and the tofu and radish were incredibly flavorful. We called this kind of food 밥도둑 (Thief of Rice) because it kept making us eat more rice. We were very full and ended up taking the leftovers home. The service was excellent. There might be many people who have never visited this restaurant, but there are likely few who have only been here once. We plan to come back to try other menu items next time. Strongly recommended. Updates on 5/3/2025 Today marked my second visit to this remarkable restaurant, originally recommended by my sister-in-law--and it was even more memorable than the first. This time, we ordered a wide variety of their signature dishes, including braised silver cod (은대구 조림), aged kimchi short rib stew (묵은지 갈비찜), marinated raw crab (양념게장), fermented soybean stew (청국장), and several others. Each dish was rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and reflected the restaurant's commitment to quality. Everyone at our table was thoroughly impressed with the depth and balance of flavors across the board. What stood out just as much as the food was their consistent, energetic service--the staff moved with purpose, warmth, and genuine hospitality, which added so much to the overall dining experience. We were especially fortunate to meet the owner, Jennifer, during our visit. Speaking with her offered a glimpse into the heart and mindset behind the restaurant's success. She shared with us that they had taken over the restaurant from a previous owner who had struggled to make the business work. Hearing this made their transformation even more inspiring. What truly turned things around was Jennifer's vision and mindset--a powerful combination of innovation, attention to detail, quality control, and a complete renovation of the space. Her passion for excellence is evident in every dish and interaction, and it's clear that this success didn't happen by chance--it was earned through intentional change and bold leadership. I was also excited to learn that they have recently opened a second location in Chino Hills, which I hope to visit soon. Although there's been a rumor about a third location in La Palma, I learned that it's not affiliated--it's a completely separate business. This restaurant is a true example of how a change in leadership and mindset can breathe new life into a struggling space. It's now not only surviving but thriving--and I look forward to returning again soon.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / April 8, 2023

A few weeks ago I saw one table outside that had a clipboard for writing down your name for the waitlist. People were sitting there before being called inside. This establishment isn't big and isn't good for large groups. Most tables seat 4.

For food, I've tried a lot of their menu and everything is so good and shareable. The korean fried chicken is crispy, not dry, and seasoned so well! A favorite amongst the group was the beef intestine, which I've never had before and was pretty impressed by. It was super juicy and paired well with the scallions and sauce. Another favorite of the group was the corn cheese. It was like a pizza but corn cheese. My absolute tried and true is the pork belly. And back then the service was amazing, the ajummas were so nice and would get you extra servings of banchan and brisket sauce but sadly throughout the years they've become very stingy and just plain out rude. I understand the cost of inflation and it's very real but I used to get their galbi tang for less than $10. The interior is clean, newly built, and has a modern Korean hanok-style look. The servers were also friendly both times, so I didn't have any issues with the service or atmosphere. Unfortunately, the main problem for me was the food. I've eaten at the LA location before and never really thought the food tasted bad there, but at this Buena Park location, both visits gave me the impression that the food didn't taste as fresh as it should. On my most recent visit, I ordered the soondae gukbap, and the soondae had an unpleasant off smell and didn't taste very fresh. It almost tasted like it had been sitting for a while. On my first visit, I tried the regular pork gukbap, and the pork flavor was also stronger than I personally prefer. I do tend to like cleaner-tasting gukbap, but this stood out to me because I don't remember having the same issue at the LA location. After the first visit, I thought maybe it was just an off day since the restaurant was still new. But after having a similar impression on my second visit, I'm not sure if this location is consistent yet. The space is nice and the service was good, but for a gukbap restaurant, the food has to be the main reason to come back. Based on my two visits, this location was disappointing for me.

But since I moved out of LA, it's so inconvenient to get to. Enter Kyung Bok Kung -- what a find. I can get a fine dining korean bbq experience conveniently. I've been here a number of times, and this review reflects the few times I've been there. It's become the goto spot to take people from out of town who are visiting and want a Kbbq experience. Things I immediately noticed - lots of white and grey teslas in the parking lot during lunch - you know what that means? Golf Koreans. Yup. Go inside and you'll see incredibly well dressed older retired people with their buddies chatting up in private cubicles. Beautiful decor. It's like the background setting of a korean drama where there's a close-up of the guy and the girl - they're about to say something really serious to each other. The camera does a wide angle shot of them - and this is the restaurant it's shot in. Price points - this place isn't cheap, but they have incredibly good deals on a weekday lunch (cold noodles and meat set). Their dinner set course meals are priced around what you would expect from a quality steak house. This place is not as pricey as AB steak or Cote, but you're getting just as quality. Food - I've had the lunch set meals, the bbq grilled course, and ordered à la carte. One thing is for sure - they don't miss. I never had a 9 budda plate until I came here, but apparently it's like a thing that royals ate during the monarchy days. It was like a korean vegetarian taco. Very intricate (and slightly annoying) to put together but delicious - and a great test of your chopstick skills. Their braised beef (galbijjim) from their lunch set intersects savory, sweet, and tenderness in a way that only Korean grandmas do. I'm not a huge fan of Wagyu beef (just too rich and can never feel after eating it), but I have never felt that way coming out of here. Go here at night if you want to impress someone or celebrate something. Go here during lunch if you want a fantastic meal and want to see what the best korean food can taste like but don't want to break the bank.
