So happy to have found Mina's Alterations on Yelp! I needed a new pair of linen pants hemmed quickly and took a chance on a new tailor. Located in an older strip mall in Artesia behind the Hanmi Bank. Parking wasn't any issue when I arrived. The nice lady who I assume was Mina/the owner showed me where I could try on the pants and she quickly pinned the pants according to how long I wanted the hem. She also confirmed that she would duplicate the original hem style- this I appreciated so much as other placed I've been to don't put in the effort and will default to a single row hem stitch. Mina was very kind and let me know the pants would be ready in 2 days. She charges $15 for my hemming job which is very reasonable. You pay up front. When returning to pick up my pants, I tried them on and they were spot on. I took a look at the hem and she did a wonderful job - the hem looked identical to the original. She is always mindful of how my jeans or pants sit on my body. For reference I had a smaller waist (2-4) in pants but my legs fit perfect in a 6. so buying clothes online it is very rare for a perfect fit. She even has me sit in a chair so we know if the alteration will not be too tight and still comfortable. In addition she also did my wedding dress! Came here to have some suit pants. Good turn around time and price. Problems: she only speaks Korean so not a good place and communicating in English was not adequate as she would be asking questions I couldn't understand what she was trying to get across. Ended up making pants too tight in the legs and too short. Didn't realize until leaving since the place is small and didn't get to test sitting down. Dressing room small so also tricky trying to hand multiple pieces of clothes. Would avoid unless you have things pre measured out for her to follow or if you speak Korean Took the pants to get fixed somewhere else and they let me know she tailored it more for female fit with high riding crotch and she took so much material out they could only partially fix it. I needed to have my Halloween costume completed and was looking for a tailor/seamstress. My usual lady only works M-F 9-5pm and it didn't work with my schedule. I checked out my option number two guy who refused the project with a 10ft pole. I found Mina on yelp and decided to give her a try since she is close with good reviews. I had no clue there were separate stores in this Korean spa plaza. Her store was easy to find. She was with an elderly lady my first first. Even though yelp says her English is not that good. I found it to be quite good compared to my usual Korean lady. I illustrated what I was planning on being and I needed hemm work, zipper placement and tassel attachment. I am going to be a magic carpet for Halloween. I told her and she and the elderly lady chuckled. She quickly faced me towards the mirror and started to pin me for placement. Very efficient and skillful. She told me she could get it back in a week and it would cost $25 (very reasonable). I picked up my costume today and was very surprised by the workmanship. She even managed to find a double way purple zipper that matched my carpet perfectly. I was attending an Indian wedding in San Jose and needed to alter a boutique lehenga I bought from Pune. It's so beautiful and was waiting to get it altered by the designer herself. But COVID didn't allow any trips to India and I didn't want to go to some random person who's going to ruin my clothes. The skirt has intricate patterns that align perfectly with the size and I was going from almost a size 10 to 00-I wasn't sure if that was even possible. I tried Mina's altercation after carefully reading reviews for almost a week and I'm so, so happy I found her! She's really sweet and understands clothing like a pro. I found Mina's Alterations online and it had positive reviews so I figured I would give it a shot. First trip: I brought three blouses that fit too loose. I've been to previous alterations and they only fixed the sides. However, Mina fixed the sides, arms, and the cleavage area! I was thoroughly IMPRESSED and I wanted to come back. Second trip: I had two pairs of jeans that fit loose in the waist and crouch area. I thought about trashing them but I was reluctant because I only wore them a couple times. I brought them to Mina, tried them on, showed her where I would like for it to be altered and she agreed. I came back in the following week [I expressed to her I wasn't in a rush] and tried on the pants when I got home. The pants fit BETTER than they did when there were brand new. I'm unsure how she altered them but there is NO sign they have been taking in. Third trip: I am thoroughly impressed with her alterations, I decided to try on all my sweaters to see if any fit too big. I ended up bringing 7 sweaters-- some I wanted altered on the sides and arms, a few I bought were balloon arms and I no longer like that style. Mina fixed ALL of them! They fit bit better and like I mentioned before, you can't tell they have been altered. Mina can alter jeans, sweaters, blouses, pretty much anything! She is sweet, very polite, and welcoming. I was looking to somehow add 3 inches to my super short Isabel Marant skirt. She said she'll get it done in 3 business days, and I left the skirt with her. When I went in for pick up earlier today, I almost couldn't believe it - she had found a fabric which is the closest match possible (color, texture) and managed to make it 3 inches longer - and it looks amazing! The only reason I'm giving Mina 4 stars is because of the cost. $60 for a hem is a little too high. I understand it was a rush job (3 days before the event), but my mom has been doing alterations and making all kinds of dresses, including wedding dresses since I can remember, and I'm going on 52 yrs on this earth. I know, I know, you're going to ask why did I go to Mina then? Because mama Chuy is on an extended vacation in beautiful, tropical Colima, Mex. Work she could've done in 2, maybe 3 hours if she took a nap in between. But I digress, Mina's work was excellent. She was very attentive and professional. She knows what she's doing and her quality and craftsmanship shows in the finished product. If mama Chuy is away again and I need something altered (like a dress for the wifey), Mina will definitely be my first (second) choice. I'll just go early enough so I don't get the surge pricing. I took my favorite jacket to Mina to replace the zipper, which had been thoroughly trashed over the decade I had worn the jacket. Before going to Mina's, I went to another tailor who took one look at the jacket and said it was too complicated to fix (there's some detailed stitching all around the zipper area.) Mina, however, was willing to do the work because she obviously had the skills! A week later, she got my jacket back to me looking as good as new! Be patient with her when you go in because she doesn't speak much English. But she's so smart to use her cell phone translator to help her communicate with you.
